The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 42
After school in the evening, Yan Xia hurriedly finished her meal and went upstairs to rest.
She was unusually quiet today, so much so that even Yan Siqiu asked in bewilderment, “What’s wrong with Yan Xia? Was she bullied at school?”
Shang Wandong watched Yan Xia’s rapidly disappearing figure and shook her head. “No.”
Yan Siqiu didn’t stay puzzled for long; instead, she felt a surge of joy, thinking to herself: Every time Yan Xia is around, I can’t have a good conversation with Sister Wandong. Now that she’s gone, I finally have a chance to make my move.
She leaned closer to Shang Wandong and whispered in a pampered tone, “Sister Wandong, shall we go out and play together this weekend?”
“No time.” Shang Wandong rested her chin on her hand, her eyes half-closed, answering without much emotion, “I need to prepare for the speech.”
At the mention of the speech, the smile froze on Yan Siqiu’s face. Her English grades were not top-tier, so she naturally didn’t have the chance to participate. But Yan Siqiu never expected that both Yan Xia and Shang Wandong would be on the participant list for the sophomore group. She wouldn’t believe it even if someone said it was a coincidence! Just how far had these two gone behind her back?
Yan Siqiu was fuming; the current Yan Xia had completely surpassed her in both studies and feelings.
“Then next week…”
Shang Wandong lifted her eyelids and said coldly, “Next week, I’m going to West City for the competition.”
As soon as Yan Xia left, it was as if Shang Wandong was covered in a thick layer of frost that ordinary people could hardly break through. She seemed to have reverted to the cold, detached, and invulnerable Shang Wandong from the very beginning.
No matter how unwilling Yan Siqiu felt, she could only mutter in a low voice, “Okay, then let’s go when there’s another chance.”
She was naturally beautiful, and her aggrieved, pouting expression was as fragile as water and pitiable, but Shang Wandong didn’t even give her a glance and went straight up to the second floor.
The sound of footsteps echoed in the silent corridor and stopped in front of Yan Xia’s door. No light shone through the crack of the door; the person inside seemed to have already fallen asleep. Shang Wandong stood there in silence for a moment, but eventually, she lowered her eyes and turned to leave.
Inside the dark room, Yan Xia lay on the bed, curled into a ball, burying her head in the soft quilt.
The system asked worriedly, “Host, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Yan Xia kept her eyes half-open and said, “…A little.”
“Shang Wandong is at the door right now,” the system said. “She probably wants to talk to you.”
Yan Xia started and looked toward the heavy door.
System: “Are you not letting her in?”
Yan Xia remained silent for a moment, then turned over to face the wall and whispered, “No.”
Despite saying that, she still pricked up her ears to listen to the movement outside the door. It wasn’t until a few minutes later that the footsteps finally sounded and gradually faded away. Yan Xia subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief, but an indescribable sense of loss welled up in her heart, like falling into a glass of lemon water without sugar.
The sourness made the root of her tongue go numb.
She had no desire to sleep and struggled in the darkness for a long time. Suddenly, a pitter-patter sound started outside, gradually growing louder, like rain hitting the window.
It was raining again.
Yan Xia put on her clothes and went to the floor-to-ceiling window. A layer of misty white vapor had accumulated on the glass, and silver lines of rain intermittently crossed the pitch-black night sky. On the balcony, the heavy rain bent the flower branches, flowing down along the curved leaves.
Her phone suddenly vibrated slightly, sounding exceptionally clear amidst the cold rain. Yan Xia took her phone; it was 11:42 PM, and she saw a message from Shang Wandong.
“Goodnight.”
Yan Xia pursed her lips, and her heart suddenly felt empty.
“Does your hand still hurt?”
By the time she realized it, she had already sent the sentence. Yan Xia stared at the screen for a while until her eyes felt sore, then buried her head back into the quilt and screamed silently.
The system, as slow as it was, asked, “…Host, did you and Shang Wandong have a fight?” It recalled the events of the day and didn’t think anything unpleasant had happened.
Yan Xia stuffed her head into the bed and muffled, “No.”
The one at fault wasn’t Shang Wandong or anyone else; it was herself.
The phone suddenly vibrated, and Yan Xia quickly lifted her head to look at the screen.
Shang Wandong: “It doesn’t hurt.” Shang Wandong: “Can’t you sleep?”
Yan Xia bit her lip and lied: “I slept, then woke up again.” She added: “If you’re sleepy, go to bed early.”
Shang Wandong replied quickly: “Okay, goodnight.”
Yan Xia: …
She really went to sleep?!
She pouted and poked the dialogue box several times with her index finger as if she could poke the face of the person on the other side through the screen. Why on earth did I fall for this wooden person?
Not wanting to lose face, Yan Xia deliberately replied calmly: “Goodnight.”
She didn’t even send a cat emoji, acting very cold. Shang Wandong didn’t reply again; she was probably truly asleep.
Yan Xia lay flat on the bed, sighing deeply. She had really fallen in love with Shang Wandong, who was so bad at reading the atmosphere. But she couldn’t stay here; she couldn’t accompany Shang Wandong to the end, and in the end, she would only be preparing a wedding dress for the original female lead.
Seeing her looking depressed, the system asked cautiously, “Host, do you have any worries? You can tell me.”
Yan Xia shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
She didn’t want to tell the system about this. What if the system found out she wanted to stay because of Shang Wandong and forcibly cleared Shang Wandong’s data, just like it did with Jiang He? Yan Xia didn’t want Shang Wandong to be treated like that. In her heart, Shang Wandong had long since become a flesh-and-blood existence, just like a human. Forcing a memory clearance by the system was undoubtedly a violation of human rights.
Over the following weekend, except for meals, she stayed in her room preparing for the speech and rarely met Shang Wandong. However, even with intentional avoidance, she would accidentally zone out during idle moments and repeatedly think of the person in the room next door.
She wondered what Shang Wandong was doing now. Was she writing a draft like her, or doing something else? Yan Xia had no way to avoid it and could only try to keep herself as busy as possible.
The scattered sound of rain accompanied her throughout the weekend, as if God were constipated, until it finally stopped completely on Monday.
Yan Xia dressed neatly and stood in front of the mirror, giving herself a long psychological build-up: “Don’t be a coward. Isn’t she just a paper-man NPC? What is there to be afraid of!”
Then she went downstairs for breakfast. At a glance, she saw Shang Wandong sitting at the table. The traditional red and white school uniform looked proper and beautiful on Shang Wandong, her slender and tall figure outlined by the hazy morning light like a detached yet gentle portrait.
Yan Xia instantly thought unyieldingly: Damn, she’s so beautiful, I want to…
Shang Wandong’s gaze focused on her in an instant. She reached out and pulled out the chair beside her for Yan Xia.
Yan Xia swallowed: Don’t come over here! .jpg
She didn’t sit next to Shang Wandong but instead went around to the opposite side and sat down next to Yan Siqiu.
Yan Siqiu: “???”
Shang Wandong’s expression darkened immediately.
Yan Siqiu looked at her suspiciously. “What are you doing? Don’t you always sit on the opposite side?”
“I want to sit with my sister today.” Yan Xia blinked at her. “Are you not welcoming me?”
Yan Siqiu looked horrified. “Did you take the wrong medicine, or am I not awake yet?!”
Yan Xia smiled but didn’t answer. A near-awkward silence fell over the dining table. No one broke the dead silence; even the servants subconsciously tiptoed and lightened their footsteps.
After breakfast, when they took the car to school, Yan Xia sat in the passenger seat again. Yan Siqiu noticed her odd behavior and her pupils shook: Could it be that Yan Xia has finally given up on Shang Wandong and is willing to leave the opportunity to me?!
The system was also shocked: “Host, why are you helping Yan Siqiu?”
Yan Xia rubbed her brow and didn’t answer. She could feel a very strong gaze piercing through the rearview mirror, staring at her intently. Yan Xia lowered her head, avoiding Shang Wandong’s eyes in the mirror, her toes so nervous they could have gripped out a villa.
After a moment, that piercing gaze finally disappeared. Yan Xia exhaled softly, her tensed back gradually relaxing, but her heart felt empty.
Yan Siqiu pestered Shang Wandong with talk the whole way until the Maserati stopped by the school street. Shang Wandong slammed the car door, her face colder than usual. Yan Xia followed silently behind them without a word.
Once Yan Siqiu entered the classroom, the two walked up the stairs one after another. The morning light flooded over the railings, and the marble floor was bright as snow. At the corner, Shang Wandong suddenly stopped.
Yan Xia was dazing and accidentally bumped into her back. She immediately stepped back a few paces and whispered, “…Sister?”
Shang Wandong looked down at her, her dark, bright eyes shimmering with fragmented light. Suddenly, she reached out and grabbed Yan Xia’s wrist.
“Are you avoiding me?”
Yan Xia was stunned; as expected, she had been too obvious, and even Shang Wandong had noticed. She looked away, her throat dry. “I…”
Shang Wandong lowered her eyes, a hint of helplessness appearing on her cold face, like a small animal that had made a mistake and was begging for its owner’s forgiveness.
“Did I do something wrong?”
Yan Xia’s heart skipped a beat, as if it had been hit with a dull blow, and it began to ache with a faint, sour pain.
“No…”
It’s my fault. It’s me who shouldn’t like you.
Shang Wandong’s eyelashes trembled. Even though she was looking from above, her expression seemed somewhat fragile. She lowered her voice: “I know there are many things I don’t understand. I’m not good enough.”
Yan Xia’s eyes widened in shock. “Who said that?!”
“Give me some more time.” Shang Wandong’s hand gripped her so hard it hurt. “I will change…”
Yan Xia shook her head vigorously, her eyes gradually moistening. “You are very good! You don’t need to change yourself.”
Shang Wandong’s face was pale as she looked at her cautiously, saying almost pleadingly, “Then can you please not avoid me?”
Yan Xia felt like she was about to lose her breath. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, her expression had returned to calm. “Okay.”
“…Really?”
Yan Xia patted her hand and coaxed her gently, “Yes.”
It’s just acting, anyway. Once all the tasks are completed, she can leave quietly. Shang Wandong wouldn’t even know she had left by then.
She lifted the corners of her mouth and said tenderly, “Sister, I promise you.”
