The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 39
Unprepared, Yan Xia felt her cheeks grow somewhat hot.
She froze for a moment, her lips slightly parted, yet she did not know what to say.
The serious expression Shang Wandong had just worn and her meticulous tone made it feel as though she were confessing her love if one were to remove that word “friend” from the beginning.
Waiting for a response from Yan Xia that did not come, Shang Wandong pursed her lips and asked, “What is it?”
Yan Xia lowered her eyes, her curled eyelashes casting two arc-shaped shadows.
Even though she was loath to admit it, her emotions were always easily swayed by Shang Wandong.
Even if it was just an unintentional remark, it was enough to cause ripples in her heart.
Yan Xia said in a small voice, “…Then what if you make other friends?”
Shang Wandong paused. “I won’t.”
Yan Xia was just about to ask how she could be so certain when she heard Yan Siqiu, who was sitting in the car, shouting from a distance: “Hey—have you two chatted enough yet! Are you going to school or not? Do you dare to be any more sluggish!”
The two hurried into the car and arrived at school.
Passing through the school gates, the surrounding gazes gathered toward them intentionally or unintentionally, and the sound of subtle discussions buzzed for a moment before quickly dispersing.
In the Class A classroom, some people had not yet arrived, and many were huddled together in twos and threes catching up on homework.
Holding the equipment room key she had snatched from He Xiaoyu yesterday, Yan Xia went to the very last row of the classroom.
the tall and sturdy sports representative was chatting with his neighbor, looking high-spirited.
Yan Xia placed the key on his desk and said, “Sorry for the trouble, thank you.”
The sports representative and the people around him all looked at her in surprise, their gazes becoming peculiar for an instant.
Noticing his unnatural expression, Yan Xia frowned. “What’s wrong?”
“…It’s nothing, nothing.” The sports representative gave a dry laugh and waved his hand.
Yan Xia turned to leave, and those several inexplicable gazes followed her until she returned to her seat, only then finally subsiding.
Beside her, Lu Yixing let out a long yawn and said with sleepy eyes, “Have you finished the math homework? Let me copy it.”
“I finished it.” Yan Xia placed the math test paper on the desk and asked in confusion, “Why are you so sleepy? What were you doing last night?”
Lu Yixing said lazily, “Watching a live stream.”
Yan Xia: “…Was it watching a female streamer dancing again?”
“No, a game stream, Overwatch,” Lu Yixing said. “I watch everything; as long as it’s interesting, I’ll give a tip.”
Yan Xia: “So that’s how it is.” The joys of the wealthy are so hard to understand.
After ten minutes or so, He Xiaoyu also arrived at the classroom.
She spotted Yan Xia at first glance, and her expression instantly twisted.
Yan Xia was sitting upright, one hand propping up her cheek and the other holding a pen. Her gaze was fixed on the test paper, and her appearance while her head was lowered was beautiful and well-behaved, just like the kind of good student teachers liked best.
In He Xiaoyu’s eyes, this scene was even more hypocritical.
The way Yan Xia had ruthlessly locked them in the equipment room last night and then walked away was still vivid in her mind!
She herself had returned home late, looking disheveled and covered in dust, and had even been scolded by her parents!
This woman was truly cruel and full of schemes!
He Xiaoyu stared fixedly at Yan Xia as she slowly sat down. She had imagined many scenarios of settling scores with Yan Xia, even thinking they might come to blows.
To her surprise, Yan Xia did not even spare her a glance, silently working on her papers as if she disdained to even grant her a look.
He Xiaoyu was both angry and anxious, but remembering her plan in an instant, she could only unwillingly suppress the fury in her heart.
She thought to herself: Go ahead and be proud! In a few days, you’ll be a street rat that everyone shouts at!
Yan Xia was completely unaware of her fluctuating state of mind.
When the bell rang for the end of the first period, someone looked out the window and suddenly shouted softly, “It’s raining!”
As soon as these words were spoken, everyone looked out the window together, immediately sparking a wave of excitement.
“It’s really raining!”
“Great!”
Rain meant they didn’t have to go to the playground for morning exercises and could instead stay upstairs to rest.
Yan Xia looked up in a daze; the words she had spoken that morning had come true, and the temperature had indeed dropped.
She lifted her eyes to look out the window. The playground was empty, and the fine, dense rain was like thousands of silver threads falling straight toward the earth, soaking the plastic track into a deep red.
The entire city of Hucheng was bathed in this fine rain, stained with an inescapable layer of gloomy grey.
Fortunately, the cool breeze after the rain was mixed with chilly air, dispelling the sweltering heat brought by the summer.
Lu Yixing stood up and stretched, saying to Yan Xia, “Going to the cafeteria?”
Yan Xia was surprised. “You’re hungry after only the first period?”
“No, I want to drink milk tea,” Lu Yixing said. “Let’s walk down there; I’m so sleepy.”
Yan Xia thought for a moment, then turned to ask Shang Wandong, “Sister, are you drinking milk tea?”
Shang Wandong raised her face and said, “I can.”
Yan Xia crinkled her eyes. “What do you want to drink?”
Shang Wandong pondered. “Buy whatever you think is best.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back.”
Yan Xia stood up and walked out of the classroom with Lu Yixing.
Watching that slender and graceful figure disappear at the end of the hallway, Shang Wandong withdrew her gaze.
The lemon-scented pheromones faded into the distance, and the time around her seemed to become very slow.
Crowds of people surged inside and outside the classroom, clusters of lively groups that seemed to have nothing to do with her.
The clock hands on the wall ticked forward, and Shang Wandong silently counted the time. The dull black and white characters on her exercise book gradually caused her to lose focus.
The sound of rain outside the hallway was incessant, shattering onto the ground in fine pieces.
While she was in a daze, something cold lightly touched her cheek.
Someone whispered in her ear, deliberately deepening their voice, “Miss Shang, your delivery has arrived.”
Shang Wandong snapped back to her senses.
The world that had been like a pool of stagnant water began to flow again.
She saw Yan Xia leaning against the window, her shoulder-length black hair tossed by the wind. The young girl had a straw in her mouth and a smile on her lips, her eyes bright and vivid. In one hand, she held a cup of pale gold milk tea, and behind her was the misty, unending curtain of rain.
She looked like the only vivid and colorful scenery in a vast expanse of grey.
“Kumquat Lemon, 70% sugar.”
The girl’s eyes were curved like crescents, wanton and dazzling. “Here, for you. Remember to give a five-star review.”
The milk tea and straw stood on the desk, a layer of white mist rising on the body of the cup.
Shang Wandong used the straw to stir the pale gold liquid in the cup, the small green limes floating left and right along with it.
She said softly, “You were gone for so long.”
“Not that long.” Returning to her seat, Yan Xia glanced at the clock. “Only ten minutes.”
Shang Wandong looked at the pale green liquid in her hand. “What are you drinking?”
“Sea Salt Matcha Cheese,” Yan Xia said. “It’s quite delicious. Do you want a sip?”
A black straw was handed to her, its edge carrying damp water marks and the irregular indentations where teeth had bitten it.
Shang Wandong lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling like butterfly wings.
She lightly took it into her mouth.
The fragrant matcha mixed with the rich, salty, and savory cheese foam reached her taste buds.
The familiar scent of sea salt vanished in an instant on the tip of her tongue.
Licking her lips gently, Shang Wandong’s expression remained indifferent. “It’s alright.”
Yan Xia asked, “And the lemon?”
“Good.”
Having lived with Shang Wandong for so long, Yan Xia had already realized that when Shang Wandong said “alright” or “good,” it meant it was very good.
She nodded, holding the straw with her teeth. “I’ll buy from this shop again next time.”
After taking a sip, Shang Wandong picked up her pen again.
Yan Xia looked at her pristine test paper and said, “It seems you haven’t written much.”
Shang Wandong gave her a look.
Yan Xia looked at her with a smile and urged, “Write, keep writing.”
Shang Wandong withdrew her gaze and soon concentrated, continuing to solve the problems.
A minute later, she mentally calculated the answer to a multiple-choice question. Just as her black ballpoint pen drew a curve in the parentheses, Yan Xia began to heap praise on her: “Wow, Sister is so amazing.”
Shang Wandong: “…”
Every time she filled in an answer, Yan Xia would start a variety of “rainbow farts” (extravagant flattery): “This question is so difficult, yet you know how to do it! As expected of Sister!”
“Doing it so fast, Sister is so cool!”
“Awesome! Is this the gold standard of the top student in the grade?”
“Love it, love it! A study god is actually right by my side!”
Shang Wandong’s train of thought was repeatedly interrupted by the flattery, and her brows furrowed deeply. “Shut up.”
Yan Xia crinkled her eyes, looking like a little fox that never learned its lesson.
She tapped the test paper and said triumphantly, “See, with me here, your speed in doing the questions is much faster.”
Shang Wandong: “…It’s already not bad if you don’t cause trouble.”
Beside them, Fu Yuan said sourly, “I really envy your talkativeness, Yan Xia. Unlike me, I don’t really know how to speak and am always particularly quiet, for fear of disturbing others.”
Good grief, starting with the ‘Green Tea’ act already?
“Actually, I also speak very little.” Yan Xia smiled and returned the favor, “But Sister is usually too quiet, so I have to be responsible for livening up the atmosphere; otherwise, she wouldn’t be used to it. I really envy that you don’t have to speak so much.”
Fu Yuan’s expression froze: She’s showing off to me, isn’t she?! She definitely is!!!
“I didn’t expect Wandong to be like this at home.” Fu Yuan’s fighting spirit was ignited, and she covered her mouth with a light laugh. “Actually, she speaks quite a lot with me at school. We get along very harmoniously.”
Yan Xia looked interested and asked, “Is that so? Then how long have you two been desk mates?”
Fu Yuan was slightly proud. “It’s been two years.” Others did not have this opportunity!
“That’s quite good.” Yan Xia pretended to count on her fingers and smiled. “I suddenly realized that Sister and I have known each other for over ten years.”
When Fu Yuan heard this, her sharp fingernails almost pierced the surface of her exercise book.
Damn it, is being a childhood friend such a big deal?!
Yan Xia couldn’t help but give a “wicked” smile: Sorry, but my ‘tea art’ is superior to yours!
The first battle of the “Tea Art Competition” ended with Fu Yuan so angry she made an excuse to go to the restroom.
Yan Xia won a great victory!
Watching Fu Yuan’s retreating back as she fled in panic, Yan Xia poked Shang Wandong’s arm with her index finger.
“Sister, do you understand what we were just talking about?”
Shang Wandong shook her head. “I don’t understand, but I am greatly shocked.”
Lu Yixing, in the front row, turned around and said earnestly, “Dong-zi, listen to my advice. You can’t handle the ‘deep waters’ of Tea Art. Don’t learn from them.”
Shang Wandong raised an eyebrow. “Tea Art?”
“You don’t need to understand these things.” Yan Xia cupped Shang Wandong’s face with both hands and said righteously, “Promise me, you just need to be a pure and unpretentious ‘wooden’ Alpha.”
Shang Wandong blinked slowly. “Okay.”
