The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 28.1
On the way home from school, Yan Siqiu once again took the initiative to bring up the midterm exams while in the car.
“Sister Wandong must have done very well this time, too, right?” She leaned affectionately toward Shang Wandong in the front seat. “It must be first place again.”
Shang Wandong glanced at her through the rearview mirror and nodded.
Yan Siqiu pursed her lips and smiled, saying with great reserve, “I can’t compare to Sister Wandong. This time, I only ranked sixteenth in the entire grade; I’m still far behind.”
Having said that, she shot a triumphant glance at the silent Yan Xia. “Right, Sister Wandong?”
Shang Wandong replied, “Indeed.”
Yan Xia covered her mouth and stifled a laugh. “Pfft.”
Shang Wandong’s hair-raising lack of emotional intelligence was truly her source of happiness.
Yan Siqiu’s entire body stiffened for a moment, looking like an eggplant hit by frost. She said awkwardly, “I… I will study hard and strive to catch up with you.”
In the next second, she turned the resentment in her heart toward the smiling Yan Xia, saying sharply, “Second Sister, what about you? How did you do on the exam?”
Yan Xia immediately pulled back her smile, drooped her brows, and said listlessly, “Not so great, I suppose.”
Yan Siqiu was still in her first year of high school and was not very clear about the sensational events that occurred in the second year today; her information was lagging. Hearing this, she did not doubt it, thinking to herself: Ha! This person failed again! Saying she would be in the top ten was nothing but big talk.
She had changed to a beautiful face but hadn’t changed her brain; she was indeed just a “flower-embroidered pillow” (all show and no substance).
Yan Siqiu raised her head high and curled the corners of her mouth like a peacock that had won a dance battle. “Oh my, Second Sister, you can’t go on like this. I’ll tell Mom and have her hire a tutor for you.”
Yan Xia deliberately kept her face stiff, feigning displeasure. “No need to trouble yourself. Sister Wandong can help me.”
Yan Siqiu said with dissatisfaction, “How could Sister Wandong have that much time? You shouldn’t disturb the top student’s studies.”
Shang Wandong, however, said, “It’s fine, it’s no disturbance.”
Yan Siqiu: “…”
She looked gloomily at Shang Wandong, feeling very aggrieved. “Sister Wandong, you’ve been so biased toward Second Sister lately. We all grew up together, yet you favor her.”
Yan Xia felt a bit happy: Of course! I am Shang Wandong’s only limited-edition ‘tomodachi’ (friend)!
She also pricked up her ears, wanting to hear how the other would respond.
Shang Wandong looked bewildered. “…I am only telling the truth. If you have questions, you can also come and ask me.”
Hearing this, Yan Siqiu’s expression turned happy again; it was clear the young girl was easy to coax.
Yan Xia, however, pursed her lips and took out her phone.
A minute later, the pocket of Shang Wandong’s clothes vibrated.
She lowered her head to look at her phone; it was actually a message from Yan Xia.
Yan Xia: “Sister, I am unhappy! [Meme: Thrown away for being too stupid.jpg]”
Yan Xia: “Tell the truth! Exactly how many ‘good little sisters’ do you have!”
Shang Wandong: …
She sent a string of ellipses back, clearly rendered speechless.
Yan Xia leaned against the car window typing, wanting to laugh in her heart: Sitting in the same car, separated by only a few meters yet using phones to contact each other it feels a bit like we’ve got ‘that kind’ of mental illness.
But she wasn’t truly angry; she just wanted to use the momentum to flirt with the “little piece of wood” and see how Shang Wandong would answer.
Yan Xia: “Why aren’t you talking? Are you feeling guilty! [Meme: Panda Man with hands on hips.jpg]”
Shang Wandong: “…No, I just don’t know what to say.”
Shang Wandong: “You are different from her. You are my friend.”
Yan Xia: “Friend again! You only know how to repeat the word friend!”
Her heart stirred, and she said suggestively, “I’ll give you a chance; you can add another word in front of ‘friend’.”
Shang Wandong fell into deep thought for a moment and then realized.
Shang Wandong: “Little friend?” (Note: Also means ‘kid’ or ‘child’)
Yan Xia: “…Never mind, act like I never said anything.”
Knowing that the midterm results were out, Zhao Daimann did not go out to social gatherings with other socialites today, but instead waited at the dining table early.
Yan Siqiu put down her schoolbag and asked with some disappointment, “Is Dad not coming back today either?”
“Your father has been too busy lately. In a few days, I’ll speak to him and have him come home to see us.” While putting food into Yan Siqiu’s bowl, Zhao Daimann asked with an eager gaze, “Xiao Qiu, how was the exam?”
Having gained her mother’s attention, Yan Siqiu tilted her face up slightly, her expression very proud. “Sixteenth in the grade. I think it’s alright.”
“Xiao Qiu is truly amazing!” Zhao Daiman smiled with satisfaction. “Strive to break into the top ten next time, do you hear me?”
“I know, Mom!” Yan Siqiu responded sweetly.
The mother and daughter conversed back and forth, and the atmosphere was very harmonious.
Zhao Daimann looked at the quiet Shang Wandong and exchanged polite pleasantries. “Wandong must have placed first this time as well?”
Shang Wandong nodded.
She was not fond of talking, but Zhao Daimann would not scold her for it.
After all, which elder doesn’t like a child with good grades?
“It would be strange if Sister Wandong didn’t get first place!” Yan Siqiu changed the subject and sighed, “However, Sister just told me that she didn’t seem to do very well this time.”
Hearing this, Zhao Daimann’s brows knitted together, and the smile on her face gradually faded.
The Yan family had always placed heavy importance on children’s grades, even to an excessive degree. Regardless of character, grades had to be excellent; one had to be a “dragon or phoenix among men.”
And Yan Xia’s grades were always a source of shame for the Yan family. Because of this, her parent-teacher meetings were always attended by the maid, Mother Mei; Zhao Daimann never deigned to go.
“Let Mother Mei go to your parent-teacher meeting.” She didn’t even look at Yan Xia, saying coldly, “I will go to support Xiao Qiu.”
Mother Mei nodded obediently. “Yes, Madam.”
Yan Xia raised an eyebrow. “You’re not even going to ask what I scored?”
Zhao Daimann gave a mocking smile. “It’s probably ‘top ten’ anyway.” (Implying bottom ten).
Sure enough, Yan Xia nodded and slowly put down her chopsticks. “Indeed.”
She slowly wiped her hands with a wet towel and said calmly, “This time, not more and not less, exactly tenth.”
Zhao Daimann: “…?”
Yan Xia pulled her report card out of her bag and handed it to Mother Mei beside her with a smile. “I’ll trouble you again this time, Mother Mei.”
Mother Mei took the report card and looked at it, immediately turning pale with shock.
“Ma… Madam… this…”
She pointed at the score of 649 on the paper and gasped.
“What happened? Why so much fuss?” Zhao Daimann glanced at her sideways, took a brief sweep, and her expression froze.
The chopsticks in her hand fell with a clack.
Sitting opposite them, an ominous premonition flashed through Yan Siqiu’s heart.
Zhao Daimann’s hand holding the report card trembled slightly, her expression one of shock. “You… this score…”
“I feel like I still didn’t do very well,” Yan Xia sighed pretentiously. “If I work hard next time, I should be able to get into the top five.”
Zhao Daimann was momentarily excited and felt extremely embarrassed. She had just finished mocking Yan Xia, and now she had to take those words back.
A smile rippled across her exquisitely maintained face, and lines of laughter appeared at the corners of her eyes. “It turns out Xiao Xia is so excellent, actually ranking in the top ten of the entire school this time. Mother has wronged you.”
Top ten in the whole school???
Yan Siqiu’s eyes widened, and she nearly snapped the chicken bone in her hand.
“As expected of a child of our Yan family, the genes are just that good. I always thought you were very smart, just that you didn’t study hard, which is why your grades were poor.” Zhao Daimann relentlessly piled food into her bowl, saying affectionately, “Speaking of which, I haven’t attended a second-year parent-teacher meeting yet. I’ll go this time.”
Yan Xia thought to herself: My good grades are because I have more drive than the female lead; it has nothing to do with your genes.
She looked at the bowl piled high like a mountain and smiled considerately. “No need, Mom. You should go to Siqiu’s meeting. I’ll be fine on my own.”
Green tea! What a green tea! (Note: Referring to manipulative behavior).
Yan Siqiu’s features couldn’t help but twist.
This person said in the car she didn’t do well it turns out she was lying to me again?! Suddenly going from the bottom to the top ten, how is that possible!
She slammed her chopsticks down with a pah and asked aggressively, “Could it be that you cheated?”
Yan Xia was slightly startled upon hearing this, and then revealed a hurt expression.
“Siqiu, how can you say that.” She hung her head, revealing a section of her fair and slender neck, like a soft and easily broken dodder flower. “I have been reviewing and memorizing books all along.”
Shang Wandong lifted her eyelids and said indifferently, “Someone doubted Yan Xia today and went to check the surveillance. She didn’t cheat.”
Upon hearing this, Zhao Daimann also raised her eyebrows in displeasure. “Siqiu, how can you speak about your sister like that? Do you have any evidence to say she cheated?”
Yan Siqiu was left speechless.
Her face flushed red, and she clenched her fists indignantly.
Previously, she was the darling in her parents’ eyes, but now that Yan Xia was progressing so fast, she could no longer show off her own grades in front of her!
Yan Siqiu felt a surge of panic and suddenly felt a sense of crisis: Will Yan Xia become more and more excellent? If Mom and Dad favor her more and more, will there still be a place for me in the Yan family?
Zhao Daimann commanded, “Quickly apologize to your sister!”
Yan Xia watched coldly, finding it very amusing: As expected of the snobbish Yan family; everything is judged only by grades. Even the former darling daughter can be cast into the ‘cold palace.’ Truly, the tables have turned.
The Yan family’s ancestral “Top-Grade Obsession” was beyond saving.
Yan Siqiu lowered her head and dryly squeezed out each word: “Sorry… I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, just a misunderstanding.” Yan Xia smiled warmly and tenderly. “We are still good sisters.”
Yan Siqiu looked at her with an indescribable expression.
The current Yan Xia was like a ball of cotton; no matter how you hit her, she wouldn’t bounce back like before. Not only was it unsatisfying to hit her, but it was also easy to draw fire to oneself, making one feel stifled.
If not for the same face, she would think the person had been replaced.
“Ding! The plot is satisfying, positive points +100!” Yan Xia heard the system’s mechanical voice in her mind. “Corruption level increased by 3%!”
Yan Xia raised an eyebrow: “Yan Siqiu suspects me?”
“Yes, the total corruption level is now 8%,” the system said worriedly. “Host, please be careful.”
“Understood.”
Yan Xia rubbed her temples; she was already trying very hard to play the role of a delicate and weak Omega. One should know that in the real world, her personality was not like this at all.
Seeing that no one was speaking, Zhao Daimann concluded, “Alright, this time I will go to Xiao Xia’s parent-teacher meeting, and Siqiu’s will be attended by Mother Mei on my behalf.”
After saying that, she smiled at Yan Xia again. “In a little while, I’ll transfer a hundred thousand to you as a reward for this exam. Spend it however you like.”
Yan Xia thought: Money to take? There’s actually such a good thing?
Her smile immediately became much more sincere. “Thank you, Mom!”
As for Yan Siqiu’s side, she naturally received nothing and finished her meal with an ashen face.
The parent-teacher meeting was held on Tuesday evening. Zhao Daimann dressed up at home and went to the school looking radiant.
But once she entered the school gate, she was a bit lost.
This was Zhao Daimann’s first time attending Yan Xia’s parent-teacher meeting. She only knew it was in the second year, but which floor was the second year on specifically?
She had to stop and send a message to Yan Xia to ask.
But after waiting for a long time, there was no reply from Yan Xia.
Zhao Daimann had no choice but to stop a passing student and ask, “Hey, wait a moment, which floor is the second year on?”
When the student saw she was dressed very expensively but had a haughty attitude, their impression of her immediately soured. “Auntie, are you here for the parent-teacher meeting?”
Zhao Daimann said, “Yes.”
