The Golden Cane and the Wild Rose - Chapter 33.2
Chapter 33.2
One of the two men, who was quicker to react, turned to Yun Ran and kowtowed. “It was our fault for being blind and offending you just now, Miss Yun. Please be magnanimous and forgive us.”
The other man followed suit and kowtowed.
Yun Ran found it annoying. “Don’t kowtow to me. This is a new era, not the old society. If you kowtow to me, I’m afraid it will shorten my life.”
“Then we won’t kowtow, but please, Miss Yun, forgive us.”
Yun Ran looked at Jiang Musheng. “It’s no use begging me.”
The two men’s fearful eyes moved back and forth between Yun Ran and Jiang Musheng.
Jiang Musheng said, “If you can get Miss Yun’s forgiveness, I will forgive you.”
The two men subconsciously wanted to kowtow to Yun Ran again. Remembering that she didn’t like it, they incoherently begged for her forgiveness.
Yun Ran glared at Jiang Musheng.
“You can go,” Yun Ran said. “Don’t come back to bother this little sister again.”
“Yes! Yes! Thank you for your generosity today, Miss Yun!”
The two men got up, propped on their hands, and quickly ran away, their feet slipping.
Yun Ran helped the girl who had been holding onto the hem of her cheongsam stand up and asked, “What’s your name, Miss Peony’s sister?”
“Chen Hong,” the girl answered with a wince of pain.
Yun Ran’s face showed sympathy. “Don’t talk anymore. Your tongue is injured.”
She kindly sized up the girl in front of her and found that the girl was about 60 to 70 percent similar to Miss Peony’s beautiful eyes, but her demeanor was completely different. Chen Hong’s face still looked very young, round and soft, a bit like a child’s face.
Yun Ran asked Chen Hong to sit on a stool for a while. She went to the kitchen to take a look and came back out. “The roast goose you wanted is packed, Mr. Jiang.”
Jiang Musheng’s eyes gestured for his bodyguards to get it themselves. The bodyguards understood and immediately went.
“I need to take Chen Hong to the hospital,” Yun Ran said.
“Ah Ran, I’ll take you.”
Yun Ran lowered her head and said in a small voice, “Thank you, Mr. Jiang.”
“You’re welcome. Your business is my business.”
Yun Ran looked up in surprise. Jiang Musheng’s words were a bit too intimate, as if their relationship had reached a very close level. But in her heart, she knew they weren’t even officially boyfriend and girlfriend and had now separated.
The bodyguards put the roast goose in the back of the car. When Yun Ran was helping the girl named Chen Hong get into the car with Jiang Musheng, Gu Hongfei returned.
Gu Hongfei saw from a distance that Ah Ran was with a girl he didn’t know and Jiang Musheng. He immediately ran over anxiously.
He yelled as he ran, “Ah Ran!”
Yun Ran heard him but pretended not to. She bent down and got into the car, squeezing into the back seat with Chen Hong and Jiang Musheng. She sat in the middle and silently said “I’m sorry” to her senior in her heart.
The driver started the car before Gu Hongfei could get over.
Chen Hong was injured, and to avoid crowding her, Yun Ran tried her best to lean toward Jiang Musheng.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Jiang, am I crowding you?”
“It’s no problem. I’m very happy to be crowded by you.”
Jiang Musheng’s words were a bit suggestive. Chen Hong couldn’t help but glance at them.
Her sister’s judgment was indeed correct. Originally, she thought Miss Yun had already left Mr. Jiang and didn’t have much hope that she could help. She hadn’t expected to see the rumored Big Boss Jiang at the roast goose shop. Miss Yun stood up for her, and Big Boss Jiang stood up for Miss Yun.
Yun Ran’s face flushed slightly. “Please be careful with your words, Mr. Jiang.”
Jiang Musheng lightly cleared his throat and said seriously, “Ah Ran, why did you ignore that Young Master Gu just now?”
“I didn’t see him.”
“He called your name very loudly just now,” Jiang Musheng smiled.
Yun Ran bit her lip and didn’t speak. Jiang Musheng stared at her unblinkingly, a faint smile always on his face.
When the car arrived at the hospital, Yun Ran quickly helped Chen Hong out from her side and fled into the hospital. Jiang Musheng followed behind her. Yun Ran had never been to a hospital as a patient before and was a bit confused about the process.
“Ah Ran, this way,” Jiang Musheng guided her.
Yun Ran thanked him with a slight blush. After that, she just followed Jiang Musheng. She couldn’t help but think: Jiang Musheng seems very familiar with the hospital. Is it because he comes here often?
When Chen Hong went with the doctor for a physical examination, Yun Ran finally had a chance to talk to Jiang Musheng alone.
“Mr. Jiang, how are your injuries…?” she asked hesitantly.
“I’m fine now,” Jiang Musheng said dismissively.
Yun Ran didn’t believe him. A hint of worry showed in her eyes. “You didn’t need to use a golden cane before, Mr. Jiang.”
“Are you worried about me, Ah Ran?” Jiang Musheng asked, getting to the point.
Yun Ran turned around, not looking at him and not answering.
Jiang Musheng took her hand and put the rose into it.
Yun Ran accepted it, her fingers delicately rubbing the lingering warmth on it.
“Ah Ran!” Gu Hongfei’s voice suddenly rang out.
Yun Ran looked in the direction of the voice, a little surprised that he had chased her all the way to the hospital.
“Don’t be afraid, Ah Ran, I’m here! Did Jiang Musheng threaten you with something I don’t know about? Hide behind me. I’ll protect you.”
Yun Ran didn’t move. “Senior, Mr. Jiang didn’t threaten me.”
“Ah Ran, don’t be afraid. The staff told me what happened at the shop just now. Did Jiang Musheng threaten you with that girl’s safety?”
“No.”
Yun Ran’s continuous denials frustrated Gu Hongfei’s confidence.
In truth, he wasn’t stupid or blind. He could see the atmosphere between Ah Ran and Jiang Musheng just now.
A subtle, ambiguous atmosphere between a man and a woman.
Ah Ran was looking down, rubbing the rose that Jiang Musheng had given her, acting like a little girl.
That was a side of Ah Ran he had never seen before.
But he didn’t want to believe it. He didn’t want to believe that Ah Ran would fall for this Mr. Jiang, who was famous throughout Hong Kong.
“Ah Ran, I’ll help you settle that girl. Come back with me.”
Yun Ran looked at Gu Hongfei with guilt. “Senior, I can’t. You can’t afford to offend Mr. Li.”
She still couldn’t forget that night, when Gu Hongfei was almost beaten to a pulp to protect her from Mr. He’s clutches.
She might never be able to forget it.
The Mr. Li who caused Miss Peony’s sister to run away and seek her help must be a similar person to Mr. He.
Perhaps only Jiang Musheng’s reputation could deter those powerful and lawless bosses.
At this moment, she actually felt that Jiang Musheng gave her more security than the police.
Thinking about it, she had been living under her old dad’s protection since he saved her. She could also say she had been living under Jiang Musheng’s protection.
Unknowingly, she had already been relying on and depending on Jiang Musheng for so many years.
Her decision in her heart became firmer.
“I’m sorry, Senior, I can’t go back with you.”
Gu Hongfei was so devastated he could barely stand. He took a step back.
He pointed at Jiang Musheng and said, “Ah Ran, if you’re not going back with me, are you planning to continue following Jiang Musheng?”
Yun Ran said, “I don’t know. I just don’t want to follow you anymore and be a burden to you. I’m sorry, Senior. I really can’t fall for you. Maybe you like me a lot now, but one day you’ll get tired, like another girl, and want to marry someone else. At that time, I’ll be nothing. I don’t want to wait for that day like it’s a slow execution. I’m sorry, Senior.”
Gu Hongfei said, “You think I’ll fall for someone else and stop liking you, but how can you be sure that Jiang Musheng won’t fall for someone else and abandon you?”
Yun Ran said, “I haven’t decided to go back to Jiang Musheng yet.” Yun Ran said stubbornly, not looking at Jiang Musheng. Since he was there, of course, she couldn’t show that she wanted to go back to him.
“Then what do you plan to do? Find another man who is more powerful than me but safer than Jiang Musheng?”
Yun Ran knew that her senior was a bit angry and embarrassed. She didn’t argue with him and said with a bitter smile, “Maybe.”
“By the way, Senior, I’ll also move out of your apartment as soon as possible. I think my wages for these days should be enough for the rent. If not, please give me some more time.”
Upon hearing this, Gu Hongfei’s eyes turned red.
“Ah Ran, are you in such a hurry to draw a clear line between us?”
Jiang Musheng watched coldly from the side, not saying a word.
Yun Ran said, “This is what your aunt and uncle want as well. You know better than I do, Senior, that they will never truly accept me. The other staff in the roast goose shop are the same. They all look down on me and think I’m not good enough for their young master. I don’t want to continue living in this environment.”
“You don’t have to work, Ah Ran. I can support you.”
“I don’t believe anyone can support another person for life.”
For every sentence Gu Hongfei spoke, Yun Ran had an immediate response, as if she had already prepared these words of rejection, leaving no room for negotiation.
Gu Hongfei’s lips moved, but he was completely speechless.
Yun Ran felt a little sorry for him seeing him so disheartened, but it was better to have a short, painful end than a long, drawn-out one. She believed that her senior would meet a girl who was better and more worthy of being cherished than her. He deserved a good marriage.
As for a self-serving and vain person like her, she didn’t know where her future would take her.
She only knew that since she had discovered that she was unwilling to live a stable life, from today on, she would treat her future life as a great adventure.
Gu Hongfei stood there in a daze for a long time, then left like a walking corpse. In that short distance, he bumped into two people. Yun Ran was a bit worried that he would get into an accident driving back.
She looked at Jiang Musheng pleadingly. “Mr. Jiang, can you send one of your men to take Senior back?”
Jiang Musheng didn’t show any displeasure. He just said, “He’s had his male pride hurt in front of his rival. He’s not likely to accept my help. He’d rather be hit by a car.”
Yun Ran frowned at him, a bit displeased that he said something so ominous. “Are all you men so concerned about your pride?”
Jiang Musheng hesitated for a moment and nodded. “Most men care about their reputation, especially in front of the woman they like.”
“But if something happens to Senior, I’ll feel guilty.”
“Nothing will happen.”
Yun Ran looked at Jiang Musheng, confused.
Jiang Musheng said, “I’m saying nothing will happen to Gu Hongfei. Men may be heartbroken over women, but not enough to harm themselves.”
Yun Ran: “…”
She was convinced and stopped worrying about it.
Chen Hong finished her examination, and the doctor came out to tell them her condition. Chen Hong had no physical problems other than her bitten tongue and was on the verge of exhaustion. The most serious problem was psychological; she might have some psychological trauma and was advised to see a psychologist.
Jiang Musheng said, “We’ll see a psychologist. Please help us book an appointment with the most reputable one.”
Yun Ran was a little surprised. She hadn’t even asked for his help, and he had taken the initiative.
But Miss Peony’s sister had come to her for help. Yun Ran asked worriedly, “Mr. Jiang, I heard that psychological treatment is much more expensive than physical treatment, is that true?”
“Yes.”
“Thank you, I…”
“Don’t worry about how to repay me, Ah Ran. I’m so poor all I have is money. You can spend it without a second thought.”
Yun Ran: “…”
“So poor all I have is money.” Was that even a human thing to say?
However, it was perfectly reasonable for Jiang Musheng to say something like that.
She lowered her head and didn’t speak, a little depressed about how people living on the same planet could be so different.
Jiang Musheng took her hand. “Ah Ran, if you really want to repay me, just come home with me.”
Yun Ran: “…”
What about “don’t worry about how to repay me”?
