The Golden Cane and the Wild Rose - Chapter 25
Chapter 25
Yun Ran’s tear-filled eyes lifted, her tears welling up in astonishment. “You knew that bouquet of roses was from my senior?”
Jiang Musheng glanced around. His subordinates were all pricking up their ears to listen.
He nodded slightly and released Yun Ran’s hand.
Yun Ran collected her thoughts, still very shocked. “You… you recognized me a long time ago?”
Jiang Musheng didn’t speak. His gloomy eyes watched her, and a hint of gentle smile appeared.
“The wonton noodles are ready. There’s pickled mustard greens in front. I don’t know if you want any, just add some yourself if you do.” The auntie with wrinkled hands brought the two bowls of wonton noodles over.
The bodyguards all went to the stove to get their own bowls and added some side dishes.
Yun Ran got up to add some pickled mustard greens. After taking a step, she turned back and asked, “Mr. Jiang, do you want some?”
“Just a little.”
“Okay.”
Yun Ran scooped up a spoonful of pickled mustard greens, poured most of it into her own bowl, and put the rest into Jiang Musheng’s bowl.
After staying with Jiang Musheng for about twenty days, she knew that when he said “a little,” he truly meant just a little.
“Thank you.”
Jiang Musheng held the worn-out wooden chopsticks from the noodle shop and picked up a small piece of pickled mustard greens to put in his mouth. He frowned at the sourness.
Yun Ran felt a great sense of satisfaction.
Thank you, pickled mustard greens.
Yun Ran used her chopsticks to press the pickled mustard greens into the soup and said to Jiang Musheng, “The flavor is very strong. If you mix it with the soup, it will be lighter.”
Jiang Musheng followed her example.
The wonton noodles themselves were not greasy, but rather light. Jiang Musheng didn’t add much pickled mustard greens, so he could still eat it all.
Yun Ran couldn’t eat much. She really wasn’t in the mood to eat. She only finished the wontons on top and then rushed to pay for everyone.
From behind, a sudden chorus of “Thank you, Miss Yun” came.
The “Thank you, Miss Yun” they shouted sounded like “Thank you, boss’s wife,” which made Yun Ran’s heart flutter. She didn’t say a word and hurried back to sit opposite Jiang Musheng.
After sitting down, she noticed that Jiang Musheng ate a lot today and couldn’t help but say, “Mr. Jiang has a good appetite today.”
Jiang Musheng said, “It’s not that I have a good appetite. This is the first meal you’ve treated me to, so I have to take it seriously.”
Take a bowl of wonton noodles seriously…?
Yun Ran didn’t know what to say, so she simply stopped talking.
Jiang Musheng took the initiative to speak. “A’ran, you don’t have to worry about your Old Bean’s funeral. I’ll handle it for you.”
Yun Ran looked at him with hesitation.
“After all, Scarface was working under me before. I should do my part for his funeral.”
Yun Ran felt a little tired. She was already having a headache with these matters alone, so she nodded and agreed.
Everyone finished dinner and got up to go back.
When they arrived at the doorstep, Yun Ran said, “I’m going to stay here tonight and keep watch over my Old Bean.”
Jiang Musheng said, “I’ll leave four bodyguards to watch over you. I’ll come back tomorrow.”
The next day, Jiang Musheng didn’t come alone. Miss Xueyu also came, and so did Zheng Hangyi, whom Yun Ran hadn’t seen for a while.
On just the second day, everything had already been bought: the coffin, wreaths, memorial tablet, joss paper. The mourning hall was also set up quickly.
Everyone took turns lighting incense.
When it was Miss Xueyu’s turn, she cried.
Yun Ran watched her cry and felt like crying herself.
Jiang Musheng pulled his sister aside and had Alan wipe her tears, while he went to light a stick of incense himself.
Zheng Hangyi was the last to go. He put away his usual playfulness and put on a serious and solemn expression.
“Miss Yun, please accept my condolences.”
Yun Ran nodded slightly.
The days passed, and soon the burial was completed. Yun Ran also faced a choice: whether or not to return to the Jiang family.
She stood in front of Old Bean’s tombstone, feeling lost.
Jiang Musheng stayed with her the whole time, seemingly unconcerned about his own legs.
It wasn’t until a light rain started to fall that he spoke. “A’ran, come home with me.”
A black umbrella was held over her head. Jiang Musheng put his arm around her shoulder and turned her around. Yun Ran followed him, following him back to the Jiang family.
At the Governor’s Mansion, Cecilia threw a glass cup at the messenger.
“Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!”
“Yun Ran knows that it was Jiang Musheng who sent her father to prison. How could she still be willing to be with Jiang Musheng? She must be after Jiang Musheng’s money. How shameless!”
The governor of Hong Kong said, “Then what about Musheng, who clearly knows that the foster father of that Miss Yun was an accomplice in his sister’s kidnapping, but still wants to be with that Miss Yun?”
Yes, Yun Ran was also wondering what she was doing, going home with Jiang Musheng.
When she got back, she took a bath to wash herself clean and wash away the dust and fatigue on her body.
After changing into a clean and comfortable nightgown, she decided to go find Jiang Musheng to talk.
When she walked out of the room, she saw Miss Xueyu. “Xueyu,” she greeted her, trying to sound cheerful.
“Sister-in-law, are you looking for my brother? He’s in the study talking with Hangyi. I’m going downstairs to eat ice cream. Sister-in-law, do you want to come with me to eat ice cream first? By the time we finish, my brother and Hangyi should be done talking.”
“I don’t want to eat,” Yun Ran said. She was a little anxious.
“Then I’ll go with Alan,” Jiang Xueyu said, pulling Alan downstairs.
Yun Ran walked towards Jiang Musheng’s study. The door was ajar, and she could hear the voices of conversation inside.
She raised her hand to knock, but when she heard Zheng Hangyi talking about her, her hand stopped.
“I say, Musheng, are you really so confused that you want to keep that Miss Yun by your side?”
“Why not?”
“Miss Yun’s foster father is dead. In her eyes, it’s partly your fault. She must hold a grudge against you in her heart.”
“On the contrary, I think that with Scarface’s death, the matter between her and me has become a little simpler.”
The hand Yun Ran was about to knock with dropped completely, and along with her hand, her heart dropped too.
Did Jiang Musheng think it was a good thing that her Old Bean had died?
