The Golden Cane and the Wild Rose - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Since they had already seen each other, there was no longer a need to continue the phone call.
Jiang Musheng turned his head, and the bodyguard put the phone away.
“Is it still not resolved?”
Jiang Musheng tossed the golden cane to a bodyguard standing nearby and strode towards Yun Ran.
“Had I known, I would have just come with you.”
Yun Ran’s lips parted slightly, too surprised by Jiang Musheng’s sudden appearance to speak.
What was even stranger was that Jiang Musheng would condescend to actively cooperate with her act.
The manager was no less shocked than Yun Ran; in fact, he was more terrified.
Although he had never met this big boss who seemed to live only in urban legends, his imposing demeanor, his noble features, and the golden cane from the rumors confirmed that the person was indeed Jiang Musheng.
Regardless of how Yun Ran had managed to attach herself to this powerful figure, his only choice now was to admit defeat and apologize.
“I didn’t know you would honor us with your presence today, Mr. Jiang. Please forgive my lack of a proper welcome.”
The manager bowed and stepped forward. He was already short, and bowing in front of the tall Jiang Musheng made him look even more like a dwarf.
“I was just joking with Miss Yun. Miss Yun has a pair of magical hands; her makeup skills are extraordinary. The showgirls at our dance hall can’t bear to see her go, so I was just jokingly trying to get her to stay.”
“Is that so?” Jiang Musheng looked at Yun Ran.
Yun Ran’s mind was a tempest of crashing waves. She didn’t want to make a big scene. For her, achieving her goal of quitting tonight was enough.
“Yes,” Yun Ran nodded.
Sweat poured down the manager’s forehead like a waterfall, leaving a distinct trail on his gaunt, shriveled face.
‘Thank goodness Yun Ran didn’t exaggerate and complain about him to Mr. Jiang.’
“Mr. Jiang, let’s go.”
Her objective achieved, Yun Ran said excitedly.
Her heart still hadn’t calmed down because there were still a few questions that hadn’t been answered.
“Okay.”
The two turned to leave together. The manager quickly pulled open a drawer and said to their backs in a strained voice, “Please wait a moment.”
Yun Ran paused, wondering what else there was.
The manager walked up to her with a bulging, thick paper bag, holding it with both hands and respectfully presenting it to her.
“Miss Yun, this is your severance pay.”
Yun Ran didn’t refuse and reached out to take it.
Feeling the weight, it was definitely a thick stack, equivalent to her wages for many days.
With her salary and this severance pay combined, the tuition for a private university should be enough.
She was very clear that a bloodsucking place like the dance hall most likely didn’t have severance pay. The severance pay was just an excuse the manager used to compensate her, believing he had offended her.
She simply accepted it. Now that she had enough for tuition, she wouldn’t have to ask Jiang Musheng for money.
She had no idea what the future held.
Walking out of the office and then out of the dance hall, Yun Ran noticed that she was receiving a lot of attention because of Jiang Musheng’s sudden appearance.
The stares were silent, yet to her, they were a clamorous noise.
Because her mind could automatically replay what those people were thinking.
It was nothing but surprise that her claim to be Jiang Musheng’s person, made to get rid of Boss He, was not an empty boast but the truth.
There was also curiosity and scrutiny about how she had managed to get involved with Jiang Musheng.
All sorts of thoughts like that.
Throughout her life, Yun Ran had received her share of attention, but without a solid backing, being noticed was unnerving.
She would be afraid, afraid that she couldn’t protect herself and would be forcibly treated as a commodity for exchange.
It was at this moment that she truly felt and understood the joy of being noticed.
Because she was safe.
Yun Ran turned to look at the source of her sense of security, and the turbulent waves in her heart surged even more.
Who would have thought that the man whose name used to give her nightmares as a child had now inexplicably become her shield.
Once they got into the car, Yun Ran sat upright beside Jiang Musheng, her hands neatly folded on her closed legs.
When Jiang Musheng was silent, she didn’t dare to speak either.
After a long while, tormented by her questions, she couldn’t hold back and finally spoke.
“How did you suddenly appear just now, Mr. Jiang?”
Jiang Musheng turned his head and gave her a deep look, as if he was meticulously examining the flesh and tiny cells beneath her skin.
Yun Ran felt a little creeped out.
“When the driver called me to ask if he should take you to the Oriental Dance Hall, I was already here.”
So that was it. As for why Jiang Musheng was there, Yun Ran didn’t dare to ask.
Jiang Musheng suddenly said, “You’re quite good at borrowing someone else’s prestige.”
Yun Ran’s face instantly flushed red.
She looked straight ahead, pretending to be calm as she replied, “It’s a survival tactic for a little fox. I’m sorry to have amused you, Mr. Jiang.”
“I’m a little curious.”
“About what?”
Yun Ran’s eyes widened.
Could Jiang Musheng be curious about her?
“How many times have you used my name?”
Oh, that question…
Yun Ran’s toes, encased in Xueyu’s pretty black shoes, were already curling up in embarrassment.
Jiang Musheng suddenly let out a soft laugh by her ear.
Her nerves on high alert, she turned her head with an exaggerated motion, only to find in embarrassment that Jiang Musheng hadn’t moved closer to her at all.
She was just so nervous being in the car with him that she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
“It seems you’ve used it so many times you can’t even remember yourself.”
“No! I only used it three times… yes! Just three times!” Yun Ran said, her face red.
Jiang Musheng didn’t say anything, but his expression made it look as if she had taken a huge advantage of him.
Yun Ran’s thoughts were all over the place. She touched the money in her hands—the night’s salary and the generous severance pay.
She asked uneasily, “What do you want from me, Mr. Jiang?”
Jiang Musheng hadn’t answered yet when the car came to a stop.
After getting out, Yun Ran looked around and saw that it wasn’t the Jiang family’s villa.
Just as Yun Ran thought Jiang Musheng wouldn’t answer her, her waist suddenly tightened, as if a cold snake had coiled around it.
It was Jiang Musheng’s arm, wrapped around her waist, and he was leaning in.
Their breaths mingled.
A look of terror appeared on her face.
Jiang Musheng stopped right by her ear.
He whispered, “Tonight, be my girlfriend.”
