- Chapter 21 - Gu Han is Willing to Be Qi Ran’s...
“Ah, Ranran, stop it,” Gu Han laughed as he hugged Qi Ran tightly, preventing him from kissing his neck any longer. “You’re so bad.”
“Am I bad?” Qi Ran smiled back. “Gu baby, didn’t you say I was the best?”
“My Ranran is the best, of course,” Gu Han said, straightening up to lift him, worried Qi Ran might catch a cold. “You’ve saved all your little ‘bad’ intentions for me, haven’t you?”
“Yes,” Qi Ran replied coquettishly, lying back in Gu Han’s arms and wrapping his hands around his neck. “Do you like it?”
“I love it,” Gu Han whispered, carrying Qi Ran toward the kitchen. “Ranran is truly adorable, the cutest, most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen. You’re truly my little angel.”
“Are you insisting I eat wontons?”
Qi Ran looked at Gu Han with interest. “How do you know for sure I’ll like them? What if I don’t?”
“Because for now, there’s nothing else for you to eat. I only bought these. You have a weak stomach and you’re having an episode right now, you can only eat soft, well-cooked food with broth. The doctor warned me not to let you eat just anything,” Gu Han said, placing Qi Ran on a chair by the dining table. “Wait here, baby, I’ll heat up our breakfast.”
The weather was neither hot nor cold, but Gu Han was meticulous and had stored all the breakfast items in the fridge. As he went to retrieve them, Qi Ran called out, “Baby.”
“Hmm?”
Gu Han opened the fridge door and glanced back. “Little baby Qi Ran, what is it?”
Qi Ran rested his head on his hand, elbow propped on the back of the chair. “Are you going to feed me?”
“Yes,” Gu Han said. “I want to take care of Ranran like a little baby. My Ranran is very delicate, after all.”
“Maybe only you think so,” Qi Ran laughed. “You have no idea. When I first started at Rui Hao, my salary was tiny. I’d order takeout and split it into two meals. I lived through days of eating cold leftovers. Maybe I just look delicate, giving you that impression.”
When Qi Ran mentioned Rui Hao, Gu Han’s hands paused while opening the food containers. He feigned composure and didn’t look back. “How much did Rui Hao pay you back then?”
“Three thousand a month,” Qi Ran recalled. “They said I was an intern, so it was very, very little. My rent was over two thousand, and I was raising Little Hamburger. There was barely anything left for food. My poor puppy had to eat the simplest chicken dog food every day, he only got canned food on his birthday. He usually never got to eat it. So when he stole my beef burger, I didn’t blame him at all. Watching him chew it, I just thought he was cute and felt sorry for him.”
It was no exaggeration, knowing that Zhou Cheng had mistreated Qi Ran so badly made Gu Han instantly furious.
“You suffered, baby,” Gu Han’s voice suddenly turned strange. It remained gentle, but there was a thick layer of suppressed rage beneath it. “You won’t go back to Rui Hao again. You don’t need to worry about any of those filthy matters involving them. Your future is going to be bright and brilliant.”
Qi Ran was sensitive to the change in Gu Han’s tone. “Are you angry?”
“Of course I’m angry. You are my treasure, the baby I want to feed personally. You were bullied by Rui Hao for so many years, if I weren’t angry, could I even say I love you?” Gu Han finished heating the wontons and brought them to the table. He then heated the steamed buns with crispy pork, soy milk, fried dough sticks, and his favorite potato silk wraps. He brought two empty bowls and two spoons to share the large bowl of wontons with Qi Ran.
“Baby, do you mean,” Qi Ran leaned into Gu Han’s arms, watching him scoop wontons into the empty bowl, “that you don’t need me to go back to Rui Hao to gather evidence anymore?”
“I’ve already said it, you are my most cherished, most beloved treasure. I won’t let you take risks in those muddy waters,” Gu Han kissed the corner of Qi Ran’s eye. “I’ll arrange for someone else to do it. Of course, my people might not be as capable as you, and they might not be familiar with gathering evidence, so the progress might be slower. But it will get done. I promise you, Rui Hao will pay double the price.”
“If it weren’t for me,” Qi Ran asked curiously, “would you have stayed out of Rui Hao’s business?”
“Yes. I wasn’t willing to entangle myself with them anymore,” Gu Han cut a wonton into small pieces with a spoon and fed it to Qi Ran. “Before I had you, the grudge between Rui Hao and me was just a lingering history; there wouldn’t have been any more direct conflict. But with you, everything changed. The case I’ve been struggling with finally has a new breakthrough. Baby, you really are my lucky star.”
Qi Ran ate the wonton, his pale cheeks bulging as he chewed slowly. Thinking over Gu Han’s words, he asked, “Are you going to let Cheng Dan do it instead of me?”
Gu Han shook his head. “No. Cheng Dan is your confidant, you’ve had a bond for many years. I think his safety is very important to you. Besides, for your sake, he has already provided a lot of inside information about Rui Hao. We are satisfied with that and have no reason to let him take more risks. As you said, no one is obligated to sacrifice extra for someone else.”
Feeling grateful, Qi Ran gave Gu Han a tight squeeze. “Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me, baby. It’s only right that I consider your feelings,” Gu Han fed Qi Ran another spoonful of chopped wonton. “Be a good boy, eat a little more.”
After a few more bites, Qi Ran shook his head and refused to eat any more.
“What’s wrong?”
Gu Han worried the food didn’t suit his taste. “Ranran, do you really not like it?”
“No, I was teasing you earlier. I love wontons,” Qi Ran said. “My stomach hurts and feels a bit bloated. I can’t swallow any more. Since I started getting stomach pains often, I eat very little. I get full easily.”
“Then don’t eat. I’ll carry you back to rest,” Gu Han put down his spoon, held Qi Ran firmly in his arms, and walked toward the bedroom. “My sweet baby, do you want me to rub your stomach for you?”
“Yes,” Qi Ran kissed Gu Han’s cheek. “I like it when you rub it. Your hands are warm, it makes my stomach feel much better.”
Qi Ran’s lips were soft, his cheeks fair and tender, and his whole body smelled sweet. Every time he initiated intimacy, Gu Han felt lightheaded with happiness.
“You’re so sweet, baby,” Gu Han placed Qi Ran on the bed, caught his wrist, and kissed it repeatedly. “You smell so good.”
“You’re scary,” Qi Ran wrapped his arms around Gu Han’s waist and pulled him down onto the bed. “Like a pervert.”
“What can I do?” Gu Han pinched Qi Ran’s fair cheek. “I can’t even walk straight when I see you. You’re intoxicating.”
“Baby, I have nothing to do. I’m bored,” Qi Ran stretched. “Usually at this time, I’d be working overtime.”
“Then you’ll have to get used to leisure,” Gu Han pushed his luck, lifting Qi Ran’s shirt and burying his face against Qi Ran’s soft, white belly, kissing it softly. “At Jian Chen, there is only ‘on-call’ duty, no overtime.”
“That tickles,” Qi Ran lightly pinched Gu Han’s cheeks. “Why are you like a puppy, licking everywhere?”
Gu Han looked up. “Did Hamburger lick your belly too?”
Qi Ran nodded. “Mhm.”
“Then if you say so,” Gu Han said happily, continuing to kiss Qi Ran’s abdomen. “I’m perfectly willing to be your little dog.”
“Little Dog Gu,” Qi Ran lightly toyed with Gu Han’s ear, teasing him. “Go eat. The food will get cold. Actually, aside from your temperament when you’re with me, you’re not very dog like in daily life. Puppies are a bit selfish, they eat the things they like first or hide them from friends. But you give everything to me, even cutting into your mealtime to take care of me. You’ve been hungry all day, it’s bad for your health. If you get sick, you won’t be able to carry me.”
“I can,” Gu Han whined while clinging to Qi Ran. “I’m strong.”
Qi Ran was silent for two seconds, then said, “You’re being naughty. If the puppy doesn’t listen, I’ll be angry.”
Gu Han frowned, looking at Qi Ran with a pitiful expression. Seeing that he was truly serious, he got up in a panic. “Baby, don’t be angry. I’m going now, right now.”
Once Gu Han actually left the bedroom to eat in the downstairs dining room, Qi Ran burst into laughter. “He really is quite like a puppy, so obedient. Gu Han is so cute.”
Ever since Gu Han cried and they shared their true feelings, Qi Ran had seen Gu Han’s sincerity clearly. He decided to be even more tolerant and gentle with him in the future.
With Gu Han’s intense affection, Qi Ran had completely fallen for him and was looking forward to their life living together. Qi Ran was a person of habit and planning, and he couldn’t help but start planning every day he would spend with Gu Han.
Downstairs, Gu Han sat at the dining table eating, checking his messages. There was one unread message from Yu Shen.
Yu Shen: “Since you probably can’t come back to the office yet, I’ll tell you about that matter here. There are a few people from Rui Hao in various departments of Jian Chen. So far, I’ve only found two in the HR department, one female and one male.”
Gu Han frowned, put down his chopsticks, and replied: “Who are they?”
Yu Shen replied instantly: “Wait a second, I’ll forward the personnel files to you. Lu Ming was supposed to be off today, but he specifically came back to pull these two files for me.”
Yu Shen: [Forwarded Message]
Gu Han clicked the PDF. The male employee was the quiet type whom Gu Han didn’t recognize. The female employee, however, was quite well-known in Jian Chen, she had good performance and had even received a special bonus. Gu Han remembered her.
Gu Han: “Received.”
Yu Shen: “What do we do with these two? Fire them?”
Gu Han replied: “Don’t fire them. Leave them alone for now. In three days, after Qi Ran’s sick leave ends, I’ll take him to Rui Hao to resign and then back to Jian Chen to join. After the procedures are done, we’ll discuss the next step. If we fire them now, Zhou Cheng will likely change his plans, and I won’t be able to get Qi Ran out of Rui Hao smoothly.”
Yu Shen: “Got it, I’ll do as you say.”
After replying, Gu Han was about to continue eating when a slight cough came from upstairs. Gu Han dropped his chopsticks immediately and ran up the stairs. While jogging, he called out, “Ranran, what is it? Are you feeling unwell?”
