The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 9
Ruan Wei’s footsteps were light, yet Jun Jue caught every sound clearly.
Suddenly, the footsteps stopped, and Jun Jue unconsciously held her breath.
What exactly was Ruan Wei planning?
Her mind raced as she automatically considered several possibilities.
The first was that Ruan Wei intended to assassinate her.
This thought was immediately dismissed. If Ruan Wei wanted her dead, the best opportunity would have been back on Planet G30. Ruan Wei could have easily killed her while she was unconscious yet Ruan Wei had saved her instead.
The second possibility was that Ruan Wei wanted to steal classified information from her.
But this was also unlikely. Without Jun Jue’s direct authorization, Ruan Wei wouldn’t be able to access anything of value.
The third possibility was that Ruan Wei wanted to…
The clear string of thoughts in her mind suddenly snapped apart.
A sudden softness pressed against her lips, interrupting Jun Jue. The cool, delicate touch short-circuited her brain.
Ruan Wei had thought she was asleep when she crept over perhaps because she had slept enough during the day, or perhaps because her craving for blood hadn’t been satisfied, prompting this nighttime escapade.
Drinking blood would definitely wake the pretty sister, so Ruan Wei settled for the next best thing, fulfilling her second strongest desire.
Physical affection.
Pouncing directly onto the pretty sister would still risk waking her.
After a few seconds of contemplation, Ruan Wei decided the safest method was a light brush of her lips, small in area, something the sleeping pretty sister likely wouldn’t even notice.
How could Jun Jue not notice?
Ruan Wei’s lips were cool and soft, carrying a faint sweetness, their presence overwhelmingly vivid.
For a moment, Jun Jue was stunned. Never in her wildest thoughts had she imagined Ruan Wei’s surprise attack would be…
Snapping back to reality, she raised a hand to grip Ruan Wei’s throat and sat up abruptly.
Ruan Wei’s bright eyes flickered with panic in the darkness as she struggled to speak under the suffocating pressure.
“Pretty… sister, let me explain.”
Jun Jue didn’t turn on the light, scrutinizing Ruan Wei’s unusually luminous eyes in the dark.
The lingering sensation of Ruan Wei’s lips still clung to hers, a faint trace of sweetness stubbornly remaining.
A surge of indescribable emotion rose in her chest. She raised her left hand and roughly wiped her lips, as if trying to erase something that didn’t belong.
Ruan Wei, with her vampire lineage, had eyes as bright as stars, capturing every movement Jun Jue made.
She seemed to have done something wrong.
“I… I’m sorry,” Ruan Wei stammered nervously.
Jun Jue glanced at her, her expression unreadable, then suddenly released her grip, turned on the light, and headed to the bathroom.
Standing before the sensor-activated sink, she let water flow over her hands, scrubbing her lips repeatedly.
When she stepped out of the bathroom, Ruan Wei was still standing by her bed, head bowed like a child waiting to be scolded.
Jun Jue paused. Ruan Wei’s actions had completely defied her expectations.
Had Ruan Wei just… kissed her? The question echoed in her mind.
The guilty culprit, Ruan Wei, cautiously lifted her head to gauge Jun Jue’s expression.
Jun Jue stared back impassively. Red marks from her grip marred Ruan Wei’s neck, she had used considerable force.
“Explain. Why did you do that just now?”
Jun Jue forced the question out, never before finding a sentence so awkward to voice.
“Affection…” Ruan Wei murmured, her voice barely audible as she hung her head.
Jun Jue didn’t catch it and demanded she repeat herself.
Ruan Wei’s voice was slightly louder this time. “I just… just wanted to get close to the pretty sister. But the pretty sister said before that she doesn’t like physical contact, so I…”
So, she kissed her secretly?
Jun Jue couldn’t understand this logic, yet she inexplicably felt that Ruan Wei’s actions made sense.
“I… I have severe skin hunger,” Ruan Wei said, touching her flushed neck.
Jun Jue frowned in confusion.
There’s such a condition?
Jun Jue didn’t believe it and immediately looked it up on her neural computer. The condition actually existed, and Ruan Wei claimed to have a severe case, which aligned perfectly with some of her previous behaviors.
Back on planet G30, when she woke up feeling a tingling sensation on the side of her neck, Ruan Wei had naturally extended her hand, asking to be pulled up from the ground.
Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but recall Ruan Wei’s ten years of malicious imprisonment.
“How did you cope before?”
It took Ruan Wei a moment to realize the pretty sister was asking how she dealt with her skin hunger during those ten years of captivity.
“They threw a few venomous snakes into the cell, so I didn’t feel as much need to get close.”
Was it because those ten years of suppression were so extreme that she became desperate to make physical contact with a stranger after escaping?
“Do you know what a kiss means?” Jun Jue asked with a stern face.
“To express affection. When I was little, I often saw my dad kiss my mom.”
Ruan Wei blinked, her clear eyes rippling with faint waves, speaking with absolute confidence.
Jun Jue almost blurted out, “Do you like me?”
Thanks to her habit of thinking before acting, she didn’t ask. It would have been too absurd.
She was more inclined to believe that Ruan Wei didn’t understand romantic love. The “affection” Ruan Wei spoke of seemed more like trust and dependence.
But trust and dependence are emotions that take time to build.
Even after years of fighting alongside her subordinates, she couldn’t claim to trust them completely.
But Ruan Wei, she seemed so simple and pure.
“Pretty sister, are you angry?” Ruan Wei asked softly.
Jun Jue remained silent, offering no answer.
“I won’t get close to you without your permission anymore, pretty sister. Can you forgive me just this once?”
If she didn’t get close to her, would she immediately seek someone else? The thought inexplicably crossed Jun Jue’s mind.
She shook her head. Who Ruan Wei chose to alleviate her so-called skin hunger was her own business, it had nothing to do with her.
Pursing her lips, she finally said, “Go back to sleep.”
Ruan Wei didn’t move. She stood there for a moment, confirming that the pretty sister wasn’t going to scold her further before finally relaxing. She turned, walked around the wall, and returned to the inflatable tent.
She lay back down inside, and to prevent herself from running out again to get close to the pretty sister, she zipped up the tent this time as a warning to herself.
Every time she thought about going out, her hand would touch the zipper, and the image of the pretty sister’s stern face would make her hesitate.
Finally, she came up with a solution: wrapping her arms tightly around herself while imagining she was holding the pretty sister.
She successfully hypnotized herself and drifted into a sweet slumber within minutes.
In her dream, the pretty sister opened her arms to her and smiled, saying, “Weiwei, come here.”
Ruan Wei smiled, her dimples faintly appearing.
…
After Ruan Wei went back to sleep, Jun Jue couldn’t fall asleep at all.
A tense string remained in her mind, as if subconsciously expecting Ruan Wei to return and do something to her again.
She waited for a while, but Ruan Wei never came.
Jun Jue thought to herself that Ruan Wei must have been intimidated by her and wouldn’t dare to be so bold again for the time being.
She casually opened her light computer again, dimmed the brightness, and quietly searched for something.
…
Early the next morning, the starship stopped at an energy planet to refuel.
Jun Jue returned to the rest area and told Ruan Wei that if she wished, she could leave now.
Ruan Wei instinctively moved closer to her, initially intending to hug her but suddenly stopping as if remembering something. In the end, she only grasped the sleeve of Jun Jue’s gray-green military uniform.
“I’ll just stay with you, pretty sister. I’m not going anywhere.”
Jun Jue turned to leave but paused just before stepping out the door.
“The starship will stay on this energy planet for nearly two hours. Would you like to go down and get some fresh air?”
“Yes!” Ruan Wei answered without hesitation.
Jun Jue, with her back to Ruan Wei, could sense her overwhelming joy just from her voice.
After being imprisoned for ten years, she must have yearned deeply for freedom.
Within seconds, Ruan Wei was behind her, tugging at her sleeve. “Pretty sister, let’s go.”
Jun Jue glanced at her sideways and said, “Go change your clothes.”
It wouldn’t be appropriate to go down in a nightgown.
Ruan Wei looked down at herself, her slender, jade-white fingers rubbing her temples as she blushed in embarrassment. “I forgot. Sorry to trouble you, pretty sister. Wait for me, I’ll be quick.”
And quick she was. Jun Jue watched as Ruan Wei darted into the bathroom.
“The clothes are in the dryer on the balcony,” Jun Jue reminded her.
Ruan Wei hurried to the balcony and then back to the bathroom, changing at lightning speed.
She was still wearing the same military-green cloak and green rain boots. Wrapped in the outfit, Ruan Wei’s already pale skin looked even more translucent, flawless as cold jade.
Jun Jue gave her a brief glance like the tenderest sprout emerging from fresh greenery after the rain.
She turned and walked ahead, but Ruan Wei immediately caught up, eager to walk beside her.
Jun Jue slowed her pace slightly.
…
By the time they disembarked from the starship, most of the soldiers had already gone down, gathered in small groups, chatting about something.
The language of soldiers often came with playful punches never meant to harm, just for fun.
Ruan Wei didn’t understand this and watched with wide-eyed alarm, unconsciously pressing closer to Jun Jue and clutching her sleeve tightly.
Jun Jue merely glanced down at Ruan Wei’s cold, jade-like fingers resting on her uniform.
Perhaps Ruan Wei’s outrageous closeness the night before had raised her tolerance, because now she found it didn’t matter much that Ruan Wei was only holding her sleeve without actually touching her.
Before they arrived, the soldiers’ conversations had been wide-ranging and unrestrained.
But the moment Jun Jue and Ruan Wei stepped off the starship, all eyes turned toward them.
Those nearby simply stared in stunned silence, while the bolder ones farther away whispered gossip just loud enough for their neighbors to hear.
“I guess the Chief Executive’s daughter has no chance now.”
“Why do you say that? Nothing’s happened between General Jun Jue and that pretty girl.”
“You’re slow! Have you ever seen anyone get this close to General Jun Jue before?”
“No.”
“Have you ever seen anyone hold General Jun Jue’s sleeve?”
“No.”
“Then there you go.”
As Jun Jue and Ruan Wei approached, the soldiers immediately fell silent, standing at attention and saluting before stealing glances.
Jun Jue merely nodded at them in acknowledgment.
She was only responsible for bringing Ruan Wei down to get some fresh air; anything else was beyond her consideration.
Ruan Wei didn’t want to wander around in a place with so many soldiers. She gently tugged on Jun Jue’s sleeve and pointed to a lively-looking street not far away.
“Pretty sister, I want to go take a look over there.”
Jun Jue checked the time on her wrist device, there was still plenty left and the probing gazes of the soldiers around them made her slightly uncomfortable. She nodded in agreement.
Ruan Wei flashed a sweet smile. “Thank you, pretty sister.”
…
This energy planet had human inhabitants, brimming with life.
From a distance, Jun Jue could already see wisps of white smoke rising above the street, carrying the aroma of food as the wind carried it toward them.
“So fragrant!” Ruan Wei inhaled deeply, her face filled with blissful delight.
Jun Jue recalled that she had already eaten quite a bit for breakfast.
“I want one of these,” Ruan Wei said, pointing to a roasted sweet potato in front of her.
The vendor was a kindly old woman who found Ruan Wei both beautiful and adorable. She wrapped up an extra-large, perfectly caramelized sweet potato for her.
“That’ll be 10 star credits, miss.”
Ruan Wei had already taken the sweet potato before realizing she had no money. Having been locked up for so long, and with Jun Jue providing for her these past two days, she had completely forgotten that buying things required money.
The old woman noticed her hesitation and smiled gently. “Miss, this is a small business. If you’re not buying, please return it.”
Biting her lip, Ruan Wei reluctantly began to hand the sweet potato back.
Jun Jue intercepted it and said to the old woman, “We’ll take it.”
As she paid, Jun Jue could feel Ruan Wei’s admiring gaze.
Glancing sideways, she saw those clear, beautiful eyes fixed on her, practically sparkling with stars.
