The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 46
Jun Jue and Ruan Wei remained locked in their standoff, neither willing to back down.
“General, why not just agree? Many hands make light work,” Jiang Tang suggested.
Jun Jue lifted her eyelids slightly and shot a cold glance in Jiang Tang’s direction, causing the latter to immediately clamp her mouth shut.
Jiang Li shook her head beside her. Her second sister still hadn’t learned to read the room.
“General, if you don’t agree, I’ll just keep holding you like this,” Ruan Wei began to act spoiled.
Jun Jue felt a headache coming on.
“Weiwei, don’t be unreasonable. This isn’t some small matter, I don’t want you to suffer even the slightest harm. Do you understand? Weiwei.” Jun Jue stroked the back of Ruan Wei’s head with her palm, still patiently explaining.
“It’s precisely because I know it’s dangerous that I want to face it together with you. If I hadn’t shown up to save you on GR03 last time, General, you might already be dead.”
After saying this, Ruan Wei noticed Jun Jue didn’t refute her, so she continued, “If something like that happens again, I can still be of help.”
“I’ll contact Jiang Lan first to see when the Junchen can arrive.” This time, Jun Jue didn’t outright refuse. If reinforcements could arrive in time, having Ruan Wei by her side might not be a bad idea.
It was Jiang Lan who spoke up first. “Reporting, General. I just spoke with my eldest sister. She said the Junchen should arrive at GR03 in about two hours. The Chief Executive hasn’t arrived yet, so the estimated risk shouldn’t be too high. General, perhaps you could-” Jiang Tang, recalling Jun Jue’s earlier icy glare, promptly shut her mouth.
Madam Weiwei, I’ve done all I can for you. Jiang Tang silently muttered in her heart.
Left with no choice, Ruan Wei continued to plead on her own. “General, please take me with you. I promise I won’t be a burden.”
The person in her arms was determined to face danger alongside her. Jun Jue tightened her embrace and finally relented, “Alright.”
“Really?” Ruan Wei’s face lit up with joy, her arms loosening around Jun Jue. Seizing the moment, Jun Jue raised her hand and struck Ruan Wei’s neck with a swift chop.
Ruan Wei immediately fainted, collapsing into her arms.
“I’m sorry, Weiwei.” Jun Jue hugged Ruan Wei tightly one last time before handing her over to Tao Xinran and Sun Qian, instructing them to take her to the basement of the Star Lord’s residence and lock the exit door behind them.
Then, Jun Jue led Jiang Tang and Jiang Li up to the rooftop of the Star Lord’s house, where the old hovercar was parked.
“Before sending Jiang Lan away earlier, I took some spare parts and tools. Now, let’s quickly modify this hovercar.”
“Into a fighter jet? General?” Jiang Tang’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Jun Jue nodded and took the lead in the modifications. Jiang Li, who happened to have a hobby in this area, quickly jumped in to assist. Jiang Tang, less knowledgeable about such things, helped by passing tools and parts.
An hour later, a somewhat shabby but fully functional small fighter jet stood before them, freshly modified.
Jiang Tang ran her hands over the newly transformed jet, just an hour ago, it had been a mere hovercar and couldn’t stop marveling. She turned to Jiang Li curiously. “Little sis, when did you learn this skill?”
“Back when I followed the General on missions, I’d always watch whenever a fighter jet was damaged or needed repairs. Sometimes the General was there too.”
Jiang Tang was about to ask why Jiang Li hadn’t brought her along back then when Jun Jue interjected sternly, “Everyone, check your weapons and equipment again.”
Jiang Tang and Jiang Li immediately complied, lowering their heads to inspect their gear once more. Jun Jue seemed to remember something and pulled the silver fox mecha necklace from around her neck, beginning to modify it as well.
Jiang Tang and Jiang Li stared in stunned silence.
The general could actually modify the mech herself, where did she learn that?
Jiang Tang looked at Jiang Li, who shook her head and made a silencing gesture. Jiang Tang immediately sealed her lips tight. She had the awareness not to disturb the general while she was handling serious business.
…
When a rhythmic, low hum echoed from the distance, Jun Jue finally finished modifying the Silver Fox mech necklace.
Only the approach of a large aircraft could produce such a sound. It was likely that Chief Executive Lin Aimin had arrived aboard the Aimin.
“Board the fighter first. Jiang Li, you’re responsible for piloting. Jiang Tang, you’ll handle sniping from the back seat. I’ll cover the fighter and launch attacks from the co-pilot’s seat.”
Jiang Tang and Jiang Li didn’t fully understand, but they obeyed. Once inside the modified fighter, they realized the general’s instructions weren’t contradictory, she had shrunk the Silver Fox mech, and the co-pilot’s seat happened to have a skylight. After summoning the mech, the general stood in the co-pilot’s position.
Though the Silver Fox mech had been downsized, its weight remained immense. The fighter tilted sharply to the left, plummeting unsteadily through the air.
“Jiang Li, can you complete the mission?” Jun Jue’s voice was calm, as steady as it had been in countless past battles.
“Yes!” Jiang Li mustered every ounce of her strength and finally stabilized the fighter.
“Good. Now test the other functions of the fighter. Familiarity will help you evade attacks.”
“Understood!”
Gritting her teeth, Jiang Li struggled to pilot the newly modified fighter, executing a series of high-difficulty maneuvers midair, steadily improving its agility.
Jiang Tang sat in the back, her blood boiling with anticipation as she prepped her weapon for battle.
In the darkness, the Aimin loomed closer like a massive airborne shark, its light sources exposing them against the night sky.
Jiang Tang steadied her gun and asked, “General, should we attack now?”
“Wait.”
Before the Junchen arrived, it wasn’t wise to engage in heavy combat. They were merely preparing for the possibility of a brutal fight.
…
Aboard the Aimin warship, Lin Aimin stood in the main cabin, adjusting the massive beams of light aimed at Planet GR03. Strangely, not a single light shone from the planet’s surface.
“Chief Executive, we should-” Before his aide could finish, a loud bang cut him off.
Lin Aimin slammed his hand on the control panel in fury. “Have those fools on GR03 all pledged allegiance to Jun Jue?”
The aide didn’t dare speak. He had intended to report the Federal soldiers’ collective refusal to attack General Jun Jue, nearly the entire force had revolted against the order.
Seeing Lin Aimin’s face darker than the night outside, the aide swallowed his words.
Lin Aimin gnashed his teeth. “Jun Jue, your time is up!”
With that, he stormed out of the main cabin, only to witness an even more infuriating sight. His Federal soldiers lounged lazily in their seats, chattering about the unfamiliar nightscape beyond the Federation.
“That footage from last time probably wasn’t doctored. Look, those blue spider lilies are beautiful. If we could bring some seeds back, my wife would be thrilled.”
“My girlfriend said the same.”
“The captain’s already gone to petition the Chief Executive. If he abandons the attack on General Jun Jue, she’ll surely be willing to coexist peacefully with him again.”
Bang!
The gunshot and the sound of a skull exploding rang out simultaneously. The soldier who had spoken moments ago was now a pulpy mess of blood and flesh. Those nearby were splattered with gore, the blood still warm.
Even some soldiers sitting far away were not spared, some were frozen in fear, while others began to vomit.
“Anyone else thinking of deserting?” Lin Aimin curled his lips into a smile as he stepped forward, dressed in a clean and tidy military-green combat uniform, his polished boots gleaming under the light.
“Chief Executive…” someone called out in terror.
Lin Aimin continued walking forward, carefully avoiding the patches of blood and flesh. When he reached the center, he raised the gun in his hand. “Anyone else who wants to join Jun Jue? I can send you there right now, so you can wait for her at the finish line.”
Silence fell over the crowd.
Even the soldiers who had been retching covered their mouths. In this situation, no one dared to provoke the Chief Executive. No one wanted to die.
“Good. That’s how it should be. Let me make this clear, we are here to eliminate a traitor for the Federation. A vile creature who conspired with vampires and tried to claim Planet GR03 as her own. This is absolute political correctness. I expect everyone here to understand that. I won’t repeat myself.”
“Understood?”
“Understood!” the soldiers replied, their voices hollow.
“Prepare for landing.”
…
“Is the Aimin descending?” Jiang Tang asked suspiciously.
GR03 was a small planet with no landing space for a massive warship, so the Aimin had been circling overhead.
“Why haven’t we landed yet?” Lin Aimin demanded angrily.
The pilot explained the reason, there was no suitable landing spot, and a forced landing would destroy the planet’s infrastructure, along with its crops and flowers.
“Land,” Lin Aimin ordered.
The soldier’s scalp prickled with fear, but he dared not disobey the Chief Executive’s command. Just as he prepared for a forced landing, he spotted a figure illuminated by the beam below.
“Chief Executive, there’s someone down there.”
“Land,” Lin Aimin said impatiently. “If someone’s offering themselves up to die, then let them.” He personally pressed the landing button.
“It’s Miss Lin, Chief Executive!” a guard shouted after recognizing the figure below.
Lin Aimin slammed the controls, halting the descent.
“Qiyue, what are you doing?” Lin Aimin fumed. “Even if you’re being willful, don’t joke with your life like this.”
“Dad,” Lin Qiyue looked up at the sky. “You’re determined to kill Jun Jue, aren’t you?”
Lin Aimin didn’t answer.
“I already know your answer, Dad. I won’t try to persuade you. But if you insist on doing something wrong, then let your daughter repay the debt for you. I’ll die with Jun Jue.”
Lin Aimin stared fixedly at his daughter standing on GR03’s soil. The night wind tousled her hair, and she wore a white wedding dress tonight, radiant and beautiful, shivering in the winter cold.
Lin Aimin knew she wasn’t speaking in anger.
For Jun Jue, his precious daughter was truly capable of anything.
But he couldn’t turn back now. Even if he could halt the war this time and cover up the truth, his conscience would never be at peace.
Once the thought of eliminating Jun Jue had taken root, it could never be erased. He had struggled with it for decades.
He believed he was making the right choice.
Adjusting the controls, he directed the beam toward a resplendent golden building. He selected a high-powered missile and pressed the launch button.
In the darkness, the golden building merged with the explosion’s fiery glow as half of it collapsed.
“Weiwei!” Jun Jue couldn’t help but call out.
“General, please stay calm. The Star Lord said the house has been reinforced and should have good defensive capabilities,” Jiang Li reassured.
“Prepare for battle.” Jun Jue clenched his fists and issued the order. They couldn’t allow the Chief Executive to continue attacking Planet GR03.
Jiang Tang accepted the command and piloted the fighter jet toward the direction of the warship. “General, if we get too close, the warship will be able to lock onto our position.”
Jiang Tang ultimately maintained the perfect distance, hovering just at the edge of the enemy’s detection range.
“Something seems to be happening over there, it looks like there’s internal trouble within the Federal Army,” Jiang Tang observed, using the night-vision goggles borrowed from the Star Lord that mimicked vampire sight.
“I think I see Miss Lin Qiyue…”
“Why is Miss Lin here? And why is she wearing a wedding dress…?”
Hearing Jiang Tang’s words, Jun Jue also looked toward the beam of light, catching only a fleeting glimpse of a blurry white figure.
Lin Qiyue leaped from the edge of the planet.
