The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 38.2
When the vampire killings, no longer just attacks reached a boiling point, Zhuo Hanjun, under the orders of Chief Executive Lin Aimin, led Federation troops and a horde of journalists to Jun Jue’s private residence once more.
This time, the journalists, unsettled by the violent incidents, leaned toward Zhuo Hanjun’s side. Only by capturing the Federation’s vampire could the safety of its citizens be ensured.
Zhuo Hanjun arrogantly commanded the Federation troops to show no mercy. No matter how illustrious Jun Jue’s past might be, her alliance with a vampire that harmed Federation citizens was undeniably suspicious. If necessary, they were to use force without hesitation.
However, Jun Jue, who had long anticipated this, did not give her the chance.
Zhuo Hanjun ordered the federal troops to draw their weapons, but the gates of General Jun Jue’s villa remained wide open, with Uncle Zhang standing by to welcome them.
“Be careful, this could be a trap,” Zhuo Hanjun signaled for caution as they advanced.
Yet as everyone approached, no danger materialized.
“Where is General Jun Jue?” a reporter asked.
Uncle Zhang replied, “General Jun Jue left yesterday on military business and is currently not in the Federation.”
“And Lady Weiwei?”
“Why call her ‘Lady’? She’s just a blood-sucking vampire who harms people.”
Uncle Zhang smiled and explained, “Madam Weiwei accompanied the General on the mission.”
“Hah, more like they fled after the murder was exposed. If General Jun Jue is shielding a murderous vampire out of love, is she still fit to serve as a Federation general?”
“Exactly! If General Jun Jue is entangled with a vampire who harms people, who can trust her anymore?”
“Hand over the murderous vampire!”
Some echoed Zhuo Hanjun’s words, while others still held unwavering trust in Jun Jue.
“Nothing has been proven yet. Give General Jun Jue a chance to explain. Have you all forgotten how much she has done for the Federation?”
How could they forget?
General Jun Jue’s contributions to the Federation were recorded in history, deeply etched in their memories, impossible to simply erase or overturn.
These were things Zhuo Hanjun lacked, and her expression darkened. “Enough talk. Facts speak for themselves. We must control the evil vampire to prevent more Federation citizens from suffering.”
This was exactly what Uncle Zhang wanted. He seized the moment and said, “Please remain calm. General Jun Jue and Madam Weiwei will provide everyone with a proper explanation.”
With that, Uncle Zhang dialed Jun Jue’s video call.
Two minutes passed, and Zhuo Hanjun grew impatient.
“Are you just stalling to give Jun Jue and the vampire time to escape?”
“Please wait a little longer. The planet the General is on is very remote, and the signal is weak, it takes time to connect.”
…
When Jun Jue’s communicator lit up, Jiang Tang was in the middle of playing cards with Ruan Wei and the others.
“Prepare to move out.”
At Jun Jue’s command, Jiang Lan immediately put away the cards, and the group stood up.
“General, are we going to distribute the money now?” Ruan Wei rubbed her hands together excitedly.
“Yes.”
The planet’s star lord brought out his long-cherished flying car, opening it into a convertible. Jun Jue, Ruan Wei, and the other five squeezed inside, the vehicle packed with bags of gold. The star lord piloted the car into the air, with Jiang Lan keeping watch over him as ordered.
“Can we start throwing them now?” Ruan Wei asked.
“Yes,” Jun Jue nodded.
Ruan Wei, Jiang Tang, Jiang Li, Tao Xinran, and Sun Qian began tossing bags of gold downward.
Before the distribution, Jun Jue had already instructed the star lord of Planet GR03 to broadcast the announcement to the residents.
Night had fallen, and though the people of GR03 doubted their wealth-obsessed star lord would ever share gold with them, a faint glimmer of hope lingered.
“It’s probably fake. We’ve waited so long with no sign, might as well go to sleep.”
“Let’s wait a little longer. What if it’s real?”
“This is General Jun Jue of the Federation ordering the star lord to do this. I trust her!”
…
As the flying car reached the residential area, lights illuminated the streets below. Ruan Wei cheered, “Get ready, everyone, here comes the money!”
Bags of gold rained down, and soon, people emerged from their homes to collect them.
“Gold! It’s real gold!”
“Thank you, General Jun Jue!”
“We support the Federation’s annexation of Planet GR03! We believe in General Jun Jue! We believe in the Federation!”
The crowd, having stumbled upon real gold, cheered enthusiastically.
Jun Jue answered the video call from Uncle Zhang, who enlarged the holographic screen from his neural computer and increased the brightness. Jun Jue and her group appeared on the virtual display.
“Look at the star system in the sky over there, it’s one we’ve never seen before! And the empty space lacks the blue glow of our Federation’s airspace. General Jun Jue and Lady Weiwei really aren’t in the Federation!”
“What are the General and Lady Weiwei scattering over there?”
“It’s gold,” Ruan Wei explained, holding up a piece of gold to the camera. “This trip is to formally integrate my former home, Planet GR03, into the Federation. This gold is a token of goodwill from the planet’s ruler to aid in its future development.”
The camera panned to the planet’s ruler, who was driving the hovercar. He forced a smile and said, “Greetings to all friends of the Federation. I am the Star Lord of Planet GR03. You’re all welcome to visit our planet in the future.”
The camera returned to Jun Jue. “We heard that someone deliberately accused Weiwei and me of endangering Federation citizens, but we departed for Planet GR03 in the early hours of yesterday morning.”
Zhuo Hanjun, seething with frustration as the situation spiraled out of control, spoke through gritted teeth, “There might still be other vampires in the Federation. As the saying goes, when you see one cockroach, there are already countless more hidden in the shadows. Besides, Lady Weiwei could have committed the murders before leaving the Federation.”
“That’s slander!” Ruan Wei turned around, clutching a bag of gold.
A reporter tried to mediate. “Lady Weiwei, do you have any way to prove you didn’t kill those people?”
“Yes, Lady Weiwei, can you provide proof?” Despite the alibi, many reporters were still inclined to believe Ruan Wei, especially since she had always been by the side of the revered General Jun Jue.
“First, let us see the condition of the victims,” Jun Jue said.
At her words, a reporter immediately pulled up their media outlet’s exclusive footage on their neural computer.
Zhuo Hanjun was furious. These reporters had just been on her side, yet now they were wagging their tails at Jun Jue after just a few words from her.
The reporter enlarged the images of the victims and held them up to Uncle Zhang’s camera. The wounds on their necks were cylindrical, two holes, each as thick as an adult’s finger, piercing clean through the neck. The injuries looked brutal.
“Thank you,” Jun Jue said, already knowing how to prove their innocence.
The reporter retracted their neural computer and stepped aside, clearing the view for everyone to watch General Jun Jue and Lady Weiwei present their evidence.
“Weiwei, come here,” Jun Jue said gently to Ruan Wei.
Reporters and soldiers armed with particle cannons crowded closer, captivated. Jiang Tang, who had been eagerly anticipating this moment, certainly didn’t want to miss it. Jiang Lan, Jiang Li, Tao Xinran, and Sun Qian also paused their gold-scattering to watch curiously. Even the star lord ruler, who was piloting the hovercar, suspended the vehicle midair and turned to look.
Jun Jue rolled up her sleeve and offered her fair arm to Ruan Wei’s mouth. Two small, seemingly harmless fangs protruded from Ruan Wei’s lips as they pierced Jun Jue’s skin. Jun Jue remained expressionless throughout.
The entire process lasted no more than ten seconds before Ruan Wei lifted her head, licking her lips in satisfaction.
“I’m full.”
Everyone present on both ends of the optical brain camera could clearly see that Lady Weiwei’s little fangs were adorable, sharp and slender, certainly not some cylindrical shape. The wound on General Jun Jue’s wrist matched perfectly, completely inconsistent with the images of the deceased.
A wave of murmurs swept through the crowd. Upon comparison, it suddenly became apparent that the wounds on the recent Federation victims looked as though they were made by some cylindrical weapon, too neat and uniform. Besides, a vampire wouldn’t need to puncture someone entirely just to drink their blood.
Zhuo Hanjun watched as the situation shifted once again, her anger reaching a boiling point. She pulled out the gun holstered at her waist, only for something metallic to clatter to the ground.
The crowd turned toward the sound, a cylindrical high-pressure gun that seemed to perfectly match the wounds found on the victims.
Panicked, Zhuo Hanjun fired, injuring the nearest reporter.
“Stay calm, everyone. She’s alone,” Jun Jue commanded through the neural network. Though the Federal Army wasn’t directly under her orders, they could clearly assess the situation and swiftly subdued Zhuo Hanjun. Someone stepped forward to tend to the wounded reporter.
Once the chaos settled, it became evident that someone had been manipulating events behind the scenes, the so-called vampire killings were entirely man-made.
A reporter immediately went live, broadcasting the news to all Federal citizens.
The incident had captured the attention of nearly the entire Federation, and the livestream was instantly flooded with viewers. Unable to accommodate everyone, other reporters quickly opened additional streams.
Viewers who grasped the situation flooded the screen with comments:
#Always trust the General!#
#General Jun Jue, the Federation’s eternal legend!#
…
Jun Jue responded, “Thank you for your trust. As a Federal General, I will defend the Federation for life!”
No sooner had she spoken than Ruan Wei grabbed her arm and, in front of everyone, licked the wound on her wrist.
Apart from Jun Jue herself, only Tao Xinran, Sun Qian, both vampires and the Planet Master knew the truth. Everyone else was stunned.
Billions of Federal citizens, both on-site and online, were shocked by the scene.
“How did Lady Weiwei do that? The General’s wound disappeared like magic!”
“Lady Weiwei must have healing abilities!”
“Mystery solved! Back then, the Federal system couldn’t detect General Jun Jue’s vital signs, so she was declared dead. Everyone thought she’d perished on GR03, but she came back alive with Lady Weiwei. It must’ve been Lady Weiwei who saved her!”
“Lady Weiwei drinks such a tiny amount of blood and even heals afterward? That’s not harmful, that’s adorable!”
“Am I the only one who thinks blood-sucking is amazing? The ultimate romantic gesture between couples!”
“Are there more vampires like Lady Weiwei? I’d gladly queue up for one!”
