The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 32
“Huh?”
Ruan Wei was still processing the situation. In her mind, being discovered had only one inevitable outcome, death.
Federal law didn’t permit the existence of vampires. They were creatures to be hunted and slain by all.
But Jun Jue was asking her if she wanted to drink blood. Any vampire would be stunned by such a question.
Seeing Ruan Wei frozen in shock, Jun Jue temporarily abandoned verbal communication. She gently ran her right thumb over Ruan Wei’s small fangs, breaking the skin and drawing a bead of crimson blood.
“Drink.”
Finally giving up on thinking, Ruan Wei bit down on Jun Jue’s finger and began to drink, as if afraid she might pull her hand away. She cradled Jun Jue’s wrist with both hands.
Jun Jue quietly felt the sensation of her blood leaving her body. Ruan Wei’s hands were cool, and so was her mouth.
Before this, whenever they kissed, Jun Jue would bleed. Ruan Wei had healing abilities. And Ruan Wei’s father, his information was unknown.
With so many clues, Jun Jue should have figured out what Ruan Wei was long ago. It was just that, subconsciously, she hadn’t wanted to consider that possibility.
When Ruan Wei had drunk her fill, she licked the wound, healing it before letting go.
“Had enough?” Jun Jue looked at Ruan Wei’s now-normal eyes. Her two small fangs had also retracted.
“Mhm.” Ruan Wei nodded nervously.
“General, are you here to arrest me yourself?” Even though Jun Jue hadn’t killed her, she was still uneasy.
Jun Jue remained silent for a few seconds before pulling out the communicator Ruan Wei had discarded. “Weiwei, do you still want this?”
Now it was Ruan Wei’s turn to stay silent.
“If you don’t want it, that’s fine. We’ll buy a new one.”
“We?” Ruan Wei asked in surprise. She was a vampire, how could she be mentioned in the same breath as a human Federal General?
“Yes, we.” Jun Jue stood up first and extended a hand toward Ruan Wei.
“Weiwei, let’s go home.”
Ruan Wei hesitantly reached out, but just as her hand was about to touch Jun Jue’s, she withdrew it.
Jun Jue leaned down and caught Ruan Wei’s hand, pulling her up. Ruan Wei’s legs were numb, and she stumbled, Jun Jue steadied her with an arm around her waist.
“General, I can’t go back with you. If you won’t kill me, could you let me go? I’ll leave the Federation, go far away, and never return. I promise, during my time here, I’ve never harmed any Federation citizens, not even animals.”
Jun Jue had never doubted that. Just moments ago, despite being hungry, Ruan Wei hadn’t touched the two rabbits nearby, they were alive and well, with no signs of blood loss.
She tightened her grip around Ruan Wei’s waist, giving a light, teasing pinch.
Ruan Wei let out a soft whimper against her chest.
“Weiwei, when you drank my blood before, did that count as harming me?”
Ruan Wei wasn’t sure if it should be considered harm. She had always healed Jun Jue afterward, but Jun Jue had still lost blood.
“Weiwei, do you still want to drink my blood in the future?”
Of course she did! Jun Jue’s blood suited her tastes the most. She licked her lips but didn’t answer.
“Come home with me. You can drink my blood every day from now on.”
“Eh~” Ruan Wei tilted her head up, accidentally bumping Jun Jue’s chin. “General, are you trying to tempt me?”
Jun Jue’s chin tingled from the faint floral scent of Ruan Wei’s hair. She chuckled softly. “You could say that.”
“Really? Every day?” Ruan Wei asked uncertainly. If Jun Jue was serious, she’d never have to worry about food again.
“Mhm. So, will you come back with me?”
This was undoubtedly a tremendous temptation for Ruan Wei, but the laws of the Federation did not permit her existence.
“General, I want to go back with you, but I’ve already been exposed. If I return with you, I’ll only bring you trouble.”
“Did Lin Qiyue tell you that?”
“I thought of it myself,” Ruan Wei said softly.
“If the citizens of the Federation find out I’m a vampire, you’ll be charged with defying federal law. Those who want to harm you will use this against you.”
Jun Jue took a deep breath and hugged Ruan Wei tightly. “Weiwei, I believe in the Federation citizens I’ve defended with my life. If I can protect the entire Federation, I can certainly protect you.”
“If they find out I’m a vampire, they’ll never accept me. I don’t want you to oppose the entire Federation for my sake.”
“If I can’t even protect the person I love, what use are those empty titles to me?”
“The person you… love?”
Jun Jue looked down at Ruan Wei, meeting her clear, slightly bewildered eyes.
“Weiwei, I love you. Didn’t you know?”
“I knew, but love seems to come in many forms.” Ruan Wei had been teased by her colleagues just two days ago during lunch when this topic came up. Tian Tian had laughed at her, saying she still didn’t understand anything, and that the General cared for her deeply.
Jun Jue reached behind Ruan Wei’s neck, gently pressing on her scent gland, still covered by the scent patch she had applied earlier, Ruan Wei hadn’t removed it.
Her lips brushed Ruan Wei’s ear. “Weiwei, I love you, the kind of love that makes me want to bite your scent gland, the kind that makes me want to fill you with my pheromones.”
“Do you understand, Weiwei?” Jun Jue lightly kissed Ruan Wei’s ear.
Ruan Wei stiffened in Jun Jue’s embrace, nervous and still uncertain. Her hand pressed against Jun Jue’s pounding chest. “Is it the same kind of love my father had for my mother?”
“Yes.”
“I think… I might feel a little of that for you too.”
“Just a little?” Jun Jue tightened her arms around the girl, recalling how the little vampire had answered differently the last time she asked, back then, she had said, “I like you a lot!”
“Come back with me, Weiwei.”
“But if Uncle Zhang and the others find out I’m a vampire, will they still accept me?”
“Yes.”
“And the Federation citizens? If they find out, won’t they send the police after me?”
“They might. If the Federation truly can’t accept you, we’ll run away together.”
“Okay.” Ruan Wei agreed happily, but her joy quickly faded as another thought struck her.
“General, I have nothing to lose by leaving the Federation, but you’d be giving up so much.”
“Weiwei, none of that compares to you in my heart.”
Ruan Wei’s eyes sparkled instantly. “Am I really that important?”
Jun Jue nodded, a faint smile curling her lips as she pinched Ruan Wei’s soft cheek. “Let’s go home.”
“Wait.” Ruan Wei tugged at Jun Jue’s hand.
“What is it?” Jun Jue turned and saw Ruan Wei gesturing for her to lower her head. She obliged.
Ruan Wei extended her tongue, licking from Jun Jue’s cheek up to her forehead, following the dried trail of blood.
Jun Jue clenched her jaw, swallowing hard several times.
“All done!” Ruan Wei licked her lips, evaluating the taste like a food critic. “Dried blood has a unique flavor.”
Jun Jue leaned down, pressing her nose against Ruan Wei’s. “Weiwei, are you tempting me?”
“I didn’t,” Ruan Wei denied with clear, unflinching eyes.
The next moment, Jun Jue kissed her forcefully. Ruan Wei felt as if she had plunged into the depths of the ocean, her lips and breath being plundered as she sank deeper and deeper.
The moment she regained air, it was like finally resurfacing.
She clung tightly to Jun Jue’s neck, as if grasping onto a floating piece of driftwood in the sea.
Jun Jue held her just as tightly. Ruan Wei hadn’t tempted her, but she had been tempted all the same.
…
Before leaving, Ruan Wei bid farewell to the two little rabbits. Jun Jue crouched down beside her and thanked the rabbits as well.
As they bent down to step out of the small tin shed, Jun Jue finally moved her hand away from where it had been shielding Ruan Wei’s head.
“General, how did you find me? I even threw away my comms device, there’s no way you should have been able to track me.”
Jun Jue smiled faintly. “Weiwei, do you believe in fate?”
“I do!”
“I didn’t before, but now I do,” Jun Jue said.
Whether it was their first meeting on planet GR03 or this reunion made possible by the rabbits, it was all fate.
“Weiwei, promise me you won’t run away again.”
“Okay!”
…
By the time they stepped outside, night had fallen.
Jun Jue held Ruan Wei’s hand and used the flashlight function on her comms device to light their way, guiding her to where the hovercar was parked.
Once inside the hovercar, Ruan Wei asked, “General, did you send other people to look for me too?”
Only then did Jun Jue remember that some of her subordinates were still searching for Ruan Wei. She immediately contacted Jiang Lan to inform her that she had already found Ruan Wei and that everyone else could stand down and rest.
After the call ended, Jiang Lan relayed the order to all units to cease the search.
Jiang Lan, Jiang Tang, and Jiang Li, three sisters, gathered together. Jiang Tang and Jiang Li, who had never met Ruan Wei before, were burning with curiosity and eagerly questioned Jiang Lan, who had once escorted Ruan Wei to work.
“Is the General’s wife even more beautiful in person than in pictures?”
“Yes, and very gentle and sweet,” Jiang Lan replied, her usually stern expression softening at the thought of Ruan Wei.
“But there are already rumors circulating that the General’s wife is a vampire. Is that true?” Jiang Tang asked.
“I don’t know. Probably,” Jiang Lan said, her face clouded with worry.
“That’s why Zhuo Hanjun came to stir up trouble today. What if the General’s wife really is a vampire?” Jiang Li pressed.
Jiang Lan replied firmly, “The General’s wife is as important to the General as the General is to us. We’ll protect her just the same.”
…
On the way back home in the hovercar, Ruan Wei retrieved the comms device she had discarded earlier.
“General, someone posted online that I’m a vampire. Now everyone’s talking about it.”
“Expected,” Jun Jue said, tilting her head to take the device from Ruan Wei. “If it bothers you, don’t look at it for now.”
Ruan Wei obediently stopped checking. She clutched the seatbelt nervously, her gaze fixed on the window as the cold moonlight cast a hazy glow over the clouds.
As the hovercar began to slow and descend, Ruan Wei spotted a crowd of people gathered at the military district’s entrance, most of them seemed to be reporters. “General, there are so many reporters blocking the gate. What do we do?”
“Don’t worry. They can’t enter the military district.”
Jun Jue accelerated past the area, and the hovercar landed in the courtyard of their villa.
Uncle Zhang stood alone in the yard, waiting for them. He had dismissed the other attendants for the day.
“General, you found Madam Weiwei?”
“Yes.”
“Madam, you must be hungry. Dinner is ready.”
Ruan Wei was deeply moved that Uncle Zhang’s attitude toward her hadn’t changed in the slightest.
Originally, Ruan Wei had already drunk her fill of blood, but she still accompanied Jun Jue in eating a bit more.
Halfway through the meal, Jun Jue received a video call from the Chief Executive and answered it on the spot.
“Xiao Jue, how could you be so careless this time? You’ve practically invited the wolf into the house. The media reporters have completely surrounded the military district gates, all desperate to find out whether the ‘wife’ you brought back is truly a vampire.”
“Your Excellency, you already know the truth, don’t you?”
“Xiao Jue, I only just found out, same as you. You’re still young, it’s perfectly normal to stumble because of emotions. Listen to me. After executing that vampire, clarify to the media that you were deceived by her and only brought her back to the Federation out of momentary soft-heartedness. With your credibility, the citizens won’t hold it against you. They’ll only condemn the vampire.”
“Think about it, Qi Yue still likes you, and I have high hopes for you as well.”
“There is absolutely no possibility between me and Miss Lin. I’ll handle this matter myself. There’s no need for you to trouble yourself.”
Jun Jue ended the call with the Chief Executive, only to receive devastating news the next moment from a military district guard.
“Bad news, General! The military district gates have been opened, and all those reporters are heading straight for your residence!”
