The General's Love Glitch - Chapter 29
Jun Jue accidentally let her gaze linger a moment too long, prompting a few children to start teasing in hushed voices.
“General, hurry up and kiss Sister Weiwei!”
“Don’t let Sleeping Beauty sleep forever.”
“General, kiss her now!”
The children only half-understood the meaning of a kiss, their teasing laced with a sense of playful curiosity.
Jun Jue clapped her hands lightly, a trick Ruan Wei had taught her when handing over the storybook. A single clap was the signal for the children to quiet down.
The command worked like a charm. The children immediately fell silent, some even straightening their backs instinctively, because the order had come from General Jun Jue herself.
Though Jun Jue had led countless hardened soldiers, this was her first time handling children. Relieved that they obeyed, she withdrew her gaze from Ruan Wei and continued reading the second half of the story. The kids, however, were still hoping Jun Jue would wake their Sister Weiwei with a kiss, so their attention wandered.
Jun Jue stubbornly pushed through to the end of the story before clapping again to regain the children’s focus.
“After Sister Weiwei finishes reading, what does she usually do with you all?”
“Games! Play games!” The children perked up at the mention of fun.
Jun Jue glanced at Ruan Wei, expecting the noise to wake her, but it didn’t. It seemed Ruan Wei really hadn’t slept well last night because of her.
She raised a hand to shield Ruan Wei’s eyes from the overhead lights. Even during the day, the hospital room was brightly lit, making it harsh for sleeping.
“General, you should carry Sister Weiwei to our little beds,” suggested a little boy with only one functioning eye, pointing to the adjacent wall. “General, our napping room is right next door.”
Jun Jue considered it briefly before saying, “Sister Weiwei was very tired last night. Let’s let her rest while I take you all to play a game, okay?”
“Okay!” The little boy responded the fastest, his admiration for General Jun Jue shining through. Meeting her today felt like a dream come true.
Having no experience entertaining children, Jun Jue carried Ruan Wei to the neighboring rest area before returning to Room 302. After the kids explained the rules, she threw herself into the game with them.
…
At lunchtime, a nurse arrived with meals. The moment she spotted Jun Jue, she shrieked in excitement and asked for a photo. As a public figure, Jun Jue rarely hid her whereabouts unless on special missions, so she agreed, on the condition that the nurse didn’t share it.
The nurse eagerly promised and even gave her an extra meal.
Once the nurse left, Jun Jue called the children to the table to eat. They stared at her with hopeful eyes, also wanting photos. Jun Jue indulged them, her thoughts naturally drifting to Ruan Wei, they still hadn’t taken a picture together.
“Everyone, sit here and eat properly. Don’t run around. I’ll go get Sister Weiwei and come right back.”
The children, now content with their photos, nodded in unison. Satisfied, Jun Jue stood and headed to the next room to fetch Ruan Wei.
When she entered, Ruan Wei was still asleep on the row of small wooden beds, looking every bit the fairytale Sleeping Beauty.
Jun Jue crouched down slowly, leaning closer to Ruan Wei, and secretly snapped a photo with her optical computer, capturing herself gazing at the sleeping girl.
Her heart raced from the act, as if afraid of being caught, and she quickly shut off the device.
Ruan Wei still showed no signs of waking up on her own. Jun Jue gazed at her sweet, peaceful sleeping face, reminded of the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty and the children’s teasing earlier.
Could she really wake Ruan Wei with a kiss?
Her fingers lightly brushed Ruan Wei’s lips, and Ruan Wei puckered them slightly, as if responding. Jun Jue couldn’t help but wonder, would she react the same way if it were someone else?
But she absolutely couldn’t stand the thought of anyone else getting this close to Ruan Wei.
Hesitating for a moment, selfish desire took over, and Jun Jue found herself leaning in to kiss her.
Ruan Wei responded in her sleep, and Jun Jue deepened the kiss, growing bolder until Ruan Wei couldn’t take it anymore and opened her eyes.
Under Ruan Wei’s stunned gaze, Jun Jue gently nipped her lips once more before finally letting go.
After the kiss, Ruan Wei remained dazed for a long time, as if her system was rebooting, still buffering.
“General, why am I here?”
“You fell asleep leaning against me during work. The kids suggested letting you rest here, so I carried you over.”
“General, why are you here?”
“To call you for lunch.”
Ruan Wei climbed down from the children’s bed, surprised. “It’s already noon? Did I sleep all morning?”
Jun Jue smoothed Ruan Wei’s sleep-mussed hair with her fingers, reassuring her. “Yes, but it’s fine. The kids were very well-behaved this morning.”
Ruan Wei smiled. “That means they really like you, General.”
“And you?”
“I… I like the General too, of course.”
“How much is ‘really like’?”
“Ah, the kids are waiting for us, let’s hurry next door!” Flustered, Ruan Wei grabbed her hand and pulled her along.
When they opened the door, six pairs of eyes turned toward them, and Ruan Wei quickly let go of Jun Jue’s hand.
“Let’s… have lunch,” Ruan Wei said awkwardly. The six children were already eating from their lunchboxes.
“Sister Weiwei, you and the General should eat too,” said the little boy who adored Jun Jue the most.
“Let’s eat, General.” Ruan Wei handed Jun Jue a hospital meal.
Jun Jue accepted it, noting that the food wasn’t particularly tasty, but she ate it without complaint alongside Ruan Wei and the children.
Ruan Wei sternly lectured the kids about not being picky eaters, and Jun Jue raised an eyebrow. Just days ago, Ruan Wei had been overeating at home, now she was teaching the children proper eating habits.
After lunch, Jun Jue and Ruan Wei led the children back to the other room for their nap, rearranging the beds they had pushed together earlier for Ruan Wei to sleep on.
Once all the children had settled in and closed their eyes, they quietly shut the door and returned to the other room.
“General, do you want to take a nap?”
Jun Jue shook her head. She wasn’t in the habit of napping, only resting her eyes for a few minutes when she was particularly tired.
“Do you still want to sleep, Weiwei?”
“No, I’m fully rested now,” Ruan Wei said, a little embarrassed.
Jun Jue raised her hand and waved it in front of Ruan Wei’s face. Ruan Wei blinked, not understanding.
“The bite mark. The one you left this morning. It’s still there.”
“Huh? When this morning? General, you’re not lying to me, are you?”
“When I was feeding you breakfast.” Leaning against the door, Jun Jue watched her with a faint smile.
Ruan Wei pulled her hand closer to inspect it. The indentation was so deep it hadn’t faded even after hours. If she had bitten any harder, Jun Jue would’ve bled.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.” Ruan Wei hung her head, guiltily apologizing.
“I’m not blaming you, Weiwei.”
Jun Jue pulled Ruan Wei into her arms. Burying her face in Jun Jue’s embrace, Ruan Wei mumbled, “I won’t bite you randomly next time.”
Jun Jue chuckled. “But I want to bite you.”
Ruan Wei looked up at her. “General, hasn’t your rut period already passed?”
“Mhm.”
“Then why would you want to…?” Ruan Wei was puzzled. If the special period was over, why would Jun Jue still want to bite someone? Take herself, for example, if it weren’t time to drink blood, she wouldn’t feel the urge to bite either.
“Because…” Jun Jue held Ruan Wei but didn’t continue. This wasn’t the right time or place to confess her feelings.
“General, do you want to bite me now?”
“Hmm?” Jun Jue thought she misheard when Ruan Wei suddenly asked.
“Do you want to bite me? Right now, my neck or gland, either is fine,” Ruan Wei said.
Jun Jue took a deep breath.
“Not right now.”
“Alright, then just tell me whenever you feel like it.”
“Mhm.” Jun Jue found this somewhat unbelievable. To be cautious, she asked, “Weiwei, have you finished reading all the materials I sent you last night?”
“Not yet. There’s too much, and with trying to understand it all, I might need two more days.”
Sure enough, the tension in Jun Jue’s nerves eased upon hearing Ruan Wei’s answer.
“Weiwei, give me your answer only after you’ve finished reading everything. If you say these things now, you might regret it later.”
“I won’t,” Ruan Wei insisted. “If the General doesn’t believe me, you can try biting me right now.”
As she spoke, Ruan Wei tilted her head to the side in Jun Jue’s arms, exposing her snow-white neck. The translucent, soft gland at the nape looked irresistibly tempting.
You can try biting me.
Jun Jue repeated Ruan Wei’s impulsive words in her mind. If she wanted to, she could lower her head right now, pierce Ruan Wei’s gland, inject her own pheromones, mark her, claim her.
Reason prevailed. She reached into her military uniform pocket, took out something she always carried, tore open the packaging, and pressed it against Ruan Wei’s gland.
“General, what did you just stick on me?” Ruan Wei, who had expected to be bitten, felt something adhere to the back of her neck.
“A scent patch.” Jun Jue smoothed it down. “Weiwei, don’t let others see your gland.”
“No one’s looking at my gland,” Ruan Wei said without hesitation. “And now that you’ve stuck this thing on it, they won’t be able to see it anyway.”
“General, do you have a scent patch on your gland too?” Ruan Wei climbed onto her shoulders, trying to get a look.
“No,” Jun Jue replied bluntly.
“Why am I the only one wearing one, then?”
Jun Jue: “…”
“General, do you have any more scent patches?”
“Yes.”
“I want one.” Ruan Wei stretched out her fair, pink palm.
Jun Jue handed her the last patch from her pocket. Ruan Wei slipped out of her embrace, tore open the packaging, and said, “General, lower your head a bit.”
Jun Jue complied, feeling Ruan Wei’s cool fingers as she applied the patch.
“All done!” Ruan Wei said cheerfully. “General, now we’re wearing matching scent patches!”
Jun Jue couldn’t help but smile. Remembering the matter at hand, she took Ruan Wei’s hand and said, “Weiwei, I’m only working at the hospital for half a day today and will be leaving soon. Since we have time now and are already here, let me take you for a quick check-up to see why your body temperature is lower than usual.”
The smile instantly vanished from Ruan Wei’s face, replaced by panic as she quickly withdrew her hand from Jun Jue’s grasp.
“I won’t go! There’s nothing wrong with me. I’ve been like this since I was a child. My father is a doctor, he checked me and said there’s no problem!” Ruan Wei protested vehemently, her tone agitated and her resistance palpable.
Jun Jue didn’t understand Ruan Wei’s reaction but soothed her, saying they wouldn’t go if she didn’t want to. Only then did Ruan Wei gradually calm down.
…
After the lunch break, Jun Jue prepared to leave the hospital. Ruan Wei apologized for her earlier outburst.
“It’s alright,” Jun Jue said, hugging Ruan Wei before leaving. “Weiwei, I’ll pick you up after work. If anything comes up, just contact me via the neural link.”
“Okay.”
Removing her temporary hospital badge, Jun Jue headed to the military district.
Zhuo Hanjun, who like Lin Qiyue had been absent from the hospital today, was now waiting outside Jun Jue’s office. She looked haggard, her eyes bloodshot, her entire body in a state of frenzied excitement, as if she had taken some illicit substance.
Jun Jue stopped in her tracks, not moving any closer.
A sinister, twisted smile spread across Zhuo Hanjun’s face.
“General, do you know what that wife of yours really is?”
