The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 40
“Fu Qingya!”
Luo Mingyuan couldn’t afford to overthink, he immediately pulled Fu Qingya into his arms, his gaze fixed intensely on him.
Fu Qingya’s expression was vacant, his eyes seeming to focus on some unknown dimension. Luo Mingyuan’s heart leaped into his throat once more.
Inside his body, Fu Qingya heard the crystalline clinking of his bones restructuring. Within his heart’s chamber, the dark red genetic nebula chains were forming a singular, bizarre symbol, a place housing his own unique genetic code.
The restructured genetic chains in Fu Qingya’s body wove together a new rectangular protein array, confirming a hypothesis he had researched for years.
Slowly, his eyes regained their clarity.
As it turned out, the human body really did hide countless genetic secrets.
Fu Qingya raised his hand. Beneath skin that appeared exactly as it always had, a faint, galaxy-like shimmer flowed quietly.
“Fu Qingya, we’re going to get you treated, right now.”
Sensing that Fu Qingya was regaining consciousness, Luo Mingyuan held him tighter, pulling the boy against his chest. His suggestion was tinged with both caution and deep worry.
He skipped any investigation into Fu Qingya’s abnormal behavior, focusing every ounce of his being on getting him medical help.
Luo Tianqi struggled to hide the shock in his expression. Even though he desperately wanted Fu Qingya to be safe, he knew how fatal a blade to the heart was, he believed the chances of survival were infinitesimally small.
Yet, Fu Qingya had shattered his understanding once again.
The fact that he had forced himself back to consciousness after being run through by a knife left Luo Tianqi stunned and shaken, no matter how relieved he felt.
Was this Fu Qingya not only brilliant, but possessed of such a miraculous body as well?
Luo Tianqi was torn between worrying for the boy and wanting to investigate the mystery, his emotions tangling into a slightly distorted grimace on his usually stern face.
The events of the last thirty minutes, from the start of the detoxification to now, were more complex than anything he had experienced in years, leaving him momentarily disoriented.
Even though he was awake, Fu Qingya didn’t answer Luo Mingyuan’s inquiry. At that moment, his mental energy was curiously circling a specific set of genetic chains. This cluster, built on a base of Mobius strips and strange nebula patterns, was not human, in fact, it didn’t belong to any species known to mankind.
They were operating at high speed within the gene pool, splitting, growing, vanishing, and rebirthing at a rate of 460 million times per second.
“Cough, cough—”
Just as he intended to continue observing this abnormal genetic colony, Fu Qingya coughed up a mouthful of congested blood containing small fragments. Luo Mingyuan finally couldn’t take it anymore and swept him up in his arms.
“You need treatment. We are going, now.”
Luo Mingyuan, who had originally intended to wait for Fu Qingya to fully wake up and make his own decision, immediately changed his mind.
Luo Tianqi also snapped out of his shock over the unscientific phenomenon. With a sharp look from him, the medical staff following behind immediately swarmed forward.
Fu Qingya, being carried in a bridal style, felt a bit speechless.
He raised a hand and placed it on Luo Mingyuan’s arm. “Wait a moment.”
Luo Mingyuan looked down, his heavy gaze meeting Fu Qingya’s. Seeing eyes that looked like a gathering storm ready to break at any second, Fu Qingya paused.
Luo Mingyuan carefully adjusted his hold, making sure Fu Qingya was cradled in a more comfortable position.
“Regardless of what you have planned, your health comes first.”
“I think you should stay still for once.”
“Those mechanical lifeforms have stopped moving. I believe the armed police units can handle the rest, there’s no need for you to keep pushing yourself with such a heavy injury.”
“You have me, you have us as your backup now. Please, value yourself. Don’t take unnecessary risks.”
Luo Mingyuan’s gaze swept over the mechanical spiders on the floor, their limbs twitching and their compound eyes dim, before finally landing on the knife protruding from Fu Qingya’s chest.
The worry in his eyes deepened, but his stride remained steady. He quickly moved the boy onto an emergency gurney that had been pushed forward.
After laying Fu Qingya down in a position that wouldn’t cause secondary trauma, Luo Mingyuan leaned over, cupping Fu Qingya’s chin with both hands. His expression was serious, yet carried a trace of helplessness and a silent plea.
“For the sake of us having been colleagues for a while, from now on, take better care of your body.”
“No matter the reason, don’t hurt yourself again.”
Suddenly having his face cupped while he was busy using his prosthetic eye to analyze the genetic tissue in his blood, Fu Qingya finally truly looked at Luo Mingyuan.
Fu Qingya had seen the emotions in Luo Mingyuan’s eyes in countless others before.
It was the look he used to see on those around him back when he would use himself as a test subject for biological toxins, only to be caught in the act.
He was clearly just doing what he had to do, and his work would bring them more benefits, yet they were always unwilling to accept it, even showing deep resistance.
That pure ache of pity, protectiveness, and helplessness was impossible to hide, it was so blunt that even an emotionally avoidant person like Fu Qingya couldn’t ignore it.
Fu Qingya’s hand, which had been creeping toward his waist to grab a scalpel to study his own flesh, suddenly stopped. For some reason, he nodded quite obediently, then closed his eyes as if to escape the gaze.
Seeing Fu Qingya agree so submissively, Luo Mingyuan froze for a second, then let go and hurried alongside the medical staff toward the emergency room.
Cardiovascular surgeons and nurses, who had been summoned urgently, were fully prepared and waiting for Fu Qingya’s arrival.
In the rush, no one noticed that the color of the knife blade stuck in Fu Qingya’s chest was gradually fading away.
“Comrade Luo.”
Huo Zhimin entered the hall. “You will be responsible for the follow-up work here. Please ensure the safety of the patients and their families.”
“Also, stay alert regarding the mechanical lifeforms on the floor.”
Even though those machines appeared to have lost all mobility, they couldn’t afford to be careless.
“Yes, Sir!”
Luo Tianqi took the order and moved quickly. His armed police officers immediately suppressed their shattered worldviews, efficiently calming the crowd, clearing the area, and getting people to sign non-disclosure agreements.
Luo Tianqi and his men were well-practiced. It wasn’t until the civilians were settled that he finally had the presence of mind to deal with the “unknown mechanical lifeforms.”
The machines had lost their drive, but Luo Tianqi still led his team in, fully armored from head to toe, before approaching with grim expressions.
However, even as they used special instruments to seal the mechanical lifeforms in containers, the machines offered no resistance. They were so “well-behaved” that they didn’t seem at all like the brutal, relentless biochemical machines that had just attacked Fu Qingya.
Luo Tianqi was uneasy but relieved. In contrast, the atmosphere in the operating room was pure chaos.
Just as the surgical instruments were about to touch that special knife to extract it with minimal damage, the blade shattered and vanished like a smudge erased by a chalkboard eraser.
Suddenly losing the plug of the blade, blood erupted from Fu Qingya’s chest like a fountain.
Beep, beep, beep—
The doctors and nurses, who had been maintaining a forced calm, instantly fell into a panic.
