- Chapter 35 - The Patients Awaken (Revised) — Successful Development
“Wooo—wooo—”
“Warning! Warning!”
“All available nurses at Kangya Central Hospital, please proceed to the inpatient department on floors 12 through 17 immediately!”
“All available nurses at Kangya Central Hospital, please proceed to the inpatient department on floors 12 through 17 immediately!”
“The announcement is being repeated, all available nurses at Kangya Central Hospital, please proceed to the inpatient department on floors 12 through 17!”
Floors 12 to 17 happened to be where all the rescued suicide attempt victims were being held.
Luo Mingyuan’s expression shifted instantly, something had gone wrong!
“Commander! The patients are waking up one after another. They are completely irrational and frantically trying to kill themselves. We have mobilized nurses to restrain them, but it’s not working well.”
“The rescue department is requesting permission to use physical restraints and knock the patients unconscious.”
“Approved! Do it immediately!” Luo Mingyuan gave the order in a cold voice.
“Yes, sir!”
With the command issued, the police stationed on the 12th through 17th floors began directing the nurses to bind and stun the patients.
Luo Mingyuan listened to the deputy’s report while sprinting toward the 12th floor. The room at the very front of that floor held Li Xiaowen, the first person saved and currently the living patient with the deepest toxin spread. He had to get there as fast as possible to ensure her safety.
“Commander! The patient in Bed 1201 won’t go down! Increasing the intensity further will cause irreparable physical damage. We need backup immediately!”
The voice in his earpiece was heavy with urgency. Luo Mingyuan’s eyes darkened as he kicked open the door and strode inside.
“I’m in Room 1201. Leave this to me for now.”
Luo Mingyuan tossed his clipboard onto the bedside table and stepped past the nurses. With a few swift movements, he pinned down Li Xiaowen, who was gagged and struggling wildly.
Fearing she would get hurt, Li Xiaowen’s parents had already moved everything that could potentially cause harm to the other side of the room. They had even formed a human shield around her, terrified she might try to bash her head against the wall.
“How, how did this happen so suddenly! First she wouldn’t wake up, and now that she has, she’s trying to, to end it all”
Mrs. Li covered her mouth, tears falling like rain. She was completely at a loss.
Her bright, well-behaved Wenwen, how could she have turned into this? What could they possibly do to save her?
Mr. Li held his wife, his expression grim. “Officer Luo, please, do everything you can to save our child. She’s only eighteen, she’s so young. We don’t want to have to bury our own daughter…”
Luo Mingyuan glanced at the parents. His eyes were calm and solemn. That single look was enough to steady the panicked couple, who stood back and didn’t dare interfere with his work.
Luo Mingyuan looked away, using one hand to pin Li Xiaowen’s arms and body down. He turned to the nearby nurses and officers. “The rope is loose. Tie her feet more securely.”
Tense and gripped by a fear of the unknown, the two nurses forced themselves to stay calm. They took the cloth strips handed over by an officer and worked together to lash Li Xiaowen’s feet to the bed frame.
Because they lacked Luo Mingyuan’s immense strength, and because the patient’s power had become eerily intense, they nearly lost their grip, almost letting her break free.
Fortunately, Luo Mingyuan had arrived just in time.
The toxin-addled Li Xiaowen looked both bizarre and manic. In less than seven minutes, she had already left several gashes on the two nurses and one officer.
The group looked exhausted and disheveled, but no matter how tired they were, they didn’t dare relax for a second.
“Bind her hands and torso as well.”
Luo Mingyuan felt the strength beneath his hands growing. It was surprising, this didn’t feel like the strength of a typical high school girl. No known toxin on Earth produced an effect quite like this. It seemed the poison Fu Qingya had described truly was extraordinary.
“O-okay.”
The two nurses hurriedly took the specialized cords and tied Li Xiaowen’s hands and body tightly, using a method designed to minimize physical harm.
Only after seeing they had finished did Luo Mingyuan release his grip.
Once the patient was fully restrained, Luo Mingyuan finally had the chance to comfort the family.
“The state is already researching a solution. Please stay calm and do your best to protect your daughter.”
The parents gripped each other’s hands, looking at Luo Mingyuan with a mix of worry and hope. “With, with your word, Officer, we feel a bit more at ease.”
At least the government was actually working on it, rather than just leaving their daughter here to die.
But honestly, what else could they do besides wait for a government cure? Even with their modest wealth, they had no way to combat this bizarre toxin. They had never even heard of a poison that forced people to commit suicide. They didn’t even have a clue where to start looking for a way to help.
Seeing that the two had forced themselves to calm down, Luo Mingyuan’s brow relaxed slightly. He was about to step away from the bedside when a mechanical spider crawled silently onto Li Xiaowen’s body. It suddenly yanked the gag from her mouth.
With her mouth free, Li Xiaowen immediately tried to bite her tongue…
Luo Mingyuan’s muscles tensed. His arm shot out, his palm flying toward her face with incredible speed.
“Xiaowen!”
“Wenwen!” her parents screamed.
“Ugh”
Her teeth sank deep into the back of Luo Mingyuan’s hand. She used so much force that the bite nearly reached the bone.
Swoosh.
The moment her teeth clamped down, a silver streak flew in from the doorway.
Clang—
The sound of metal hitting metal rang out. The blood-red spider was pierced and pinned to the white wall behind them. It struggled desperately, its tiny mechanical legs twitching.
Luo Mingyuan looked up sharply toward the door.
Had Fu Qingya come out of the lab? Was he taking a break, or had he actually developed the antidote?
No, not long ago he had been at a total loss regarding the cure. It shouldn’t be possible to finish it this quickly. Could he have noticed something was wrong and come to help?
The news of the mass suicide attempts hadn’t been kept from Fu Qingya. They couldn’t even control the patients properly without his intervention. The sense of frustration and guilt in Luo Mingyuan’s heart was stronger than ever.
Ever since encountering that entity designated “Galaxy A48,” why did he keep failing? It was truly discouraging.
Luo Mingyuan sighed inwardly.
His gaze was so focused and strange that even Fu Qingya, who was in a hurry to save the patient, couldn’t help but glance at him.
“What is it? Is there another problem?”
In light of Luo Mingyuan’s care during this time, Fu Qingya gave him the courtesy of asking.
Fu Qingya stood by the bed, then frowned with a look of slight disgust and curiosity at the bloody bite on the back of Luo Mingyuan’s hand.
Click—
Fu Qingya efficiently dislocated Li Xiaowen’s jaw, freeing Luo Mingyuan’s hand.
Li Xiaowen’s parents were heartbroken, but seeing Luo Mingyuan’s mangled hand, they felt a wave of guilt. They sighed, watching Fu Qingya’s movements with hesitation. They wanted to ask him to be gentler, but they were afraid of delaying him or making him angry.
So, they just stood there, looking at him anxiously.
In their state of distress, the couple didn’t even realize that Fu Qingya was their daughter’s high school classmate. They assumed he was some expert sent by a government agency.
Fu Qingya didn’t notice their hesitation at all. After pushing Luo Mingyuan’s hand aside, he pulled out a vial of reagent.
Luo Mingyuan’s eyes, which had been filled with a mix of helplessness and amusement at Fu Qingya’s directness, suddenly flared with a different light.
