The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 33
Luo Mingyuan was incredibly worried about Fu Qingya. He didn’t want to watch a young man ten years his junior collapse right in front of him from pure exhaustion.
He knew it—Fu Qingya was a little madman who had no idea how to look after himself. He was crazy enough to disregard his own life entirely for the sake of his work.
Luo Mingyuan’s expression was a mix of frustration and annoyance. If he weren’t so historically hopeless at understanding formulas and data, he would have stepped in to help in a heartbeat, rather than just standing around like a useless bystander.
Fu Qingya, who was merely using “Sleeping Beauty Syndrome” as an excuse, remained silent.
Returning to the time before the apocalypse meant that the people who used to nag him and strictly manage his life were all gone. Having walked this path alone for so long, Fu Qingya looked at the tall man frowning and rambling at him. After a moment of silence, he finally gave a soft response.
“Fine. I’ll go eat.”
“Let’s go then.”
Luo Mingyuan froze. He knew exactly how stubborn Fu Qingya could be, and how difficult the boy became once he was immersed in his own world. He had already prepared himself for a refusal and was planning to force the issue, so he hadn’t expected Fu Qingya to agree so readily this time.
Seeing the man standing there in a daze while still gripping his hand, Fu Qingya let out a soft chuckle.
“Didn’t you say you wanted me to go eat? Now that I’ve agreed, why are you just standing there holding onto me without moving an inch?”
Luo Mingyuan snapped out of it. Feeling the coolness of the boy’s palm, he rubbed it a couple of times and frowned.
“The air conditioning in here is too strong. Go rest after dinner. Once you’ve slept, put on a few more layers before you continue.”
As he spoke, Luo Mingyuan habitually rubbed Fu Qingya’s hands between his own, much like he would do for himself if he felt a chill. The gesture left Fu Qingya, who had never been treated this way, momentarily stunned.
A moment later, Fu Qingya’s face darkened, his germaphobia kicking in. “Let go. Are we going or not?”
Fu Qingya found Luo Mingyuan incredibly long-winded. He wasn’t an idiot, even if he was “hopeless” at daily life, he wasn’t so far gone that he didn’t know how to put on a sweater when it was cold. He certainly didn’t need someone rubbing his hands to keep him warm.
Luo Mingyuan was simply overthinking things.
Terrified that this young man—who was ruthless to others but even harsher on himself—might get annoyed and actually skip the meal, Luo Mingyuan quickly pulled him out of the research lab.
“Soup first, then the meal.”
“Your stomach isn’t great, so I got you light dishes. They might be a bit bland, but they’re perfect for someone who hasn’t eaten in several meals.”
Luo Mingyuan opened the containers of food he had reheated multiple times and set them out one by one.
He poured a bowl of soup first and pushed it toward Fu Qingya, arranging the spoon and chopsticks neatly. Then he scooped a bowl of rice and picked out a bit of every dish. He plated the food with meticulous precision, ensuring everything looked orderly before Fu Qingya.
“A balance of meat and vegetables. Eat it all. You need to build your health back up, you’re way too thin.”
Luo Mingyuan watched as Fu Qingya picked up the bowl and obediently sipped the soup. His gaze drifted from the boy’s handsome face to his slender frame.
Seeing Fu Qingya’s refined, elegant eating habits, Luo Mingyuan couldn’t help but keep talking.
“Has anyone ever told you that you talk too much?”
The “nagged” Fu Qingya nearly choked on his soup. He set the bowl down, looked up, and gave Luo Mingyuan a peculiar look.
He had originally thought this guy was just a bit gullible and not very bright, but the more they interacted, the stranger he became. Now, he seemed to be developing into a full-blown chatterbox.
Fu Qingya felt his head buzzing. How could a man have so much to say? It was genuinely annoying.
Moreover, the man had started worrying about his health and even had the audacity to want to fatten him up! Since his rebirth, he hadn’t heard such things from anyone except his uncle, let alone from a young man he’d only known for a short while.
Fu Qingya felt helpless, but since he still needed to collaborate with Luo Mingyuan, he suppressed his irritation for the time being.
Being dismissed didn’t stop Luo Mingyuan. He closed his mouth but kept his hands busy, either refilling the soup or piling more vegetables onto Fu Qingya’s plate.
Once Fu Qingya had finished eating, Luo Mingyuan called in several people to bring in a bed. It was fully furnished and looked exceptionally comfortable.
He placed the bed right in front of Fu Qingya, effectively blocking his path back to the research lab.
When Luo Mingyuan got stubborn, he was a very difficult person to handle.
If Fu Qingya didn’t rest as instructed, the man would likely move the bed right into the lab and stare at him relentlessly, seizing every possible second to remind him to sleep.
To escape Luo Mingyuan’s pestering and his endless bag of tricks, Fu Qingya hesitated for a few seconds before turning toward the adjacent lounge to rest.
Anyone with a shred of dignity wouldn’t be able to sleep peacefully on a luxury bed in the middle of a hallway under the gaze of a crowd. Thus, Fu Qingya chose the lounge.
Since Fu Qingya had compromised, Luo Mingyuan naturally stopped giving him a hard time. He instructed the police team to guard both the lab and the lounge to ensure no one disturbed the boy, then he turned and left the hospital.
Luo Mingyuan was busy, busier than he had ever been. He had to communicate with dozens of victims’ families, bring the bodies to the hospital for testing, and comfort the panicked students and staff from Number Twelve and Number One Middle School. He also had to protect the critically ill Li Xiaowen, while conducting a massive sweep for suspicious individuals and illegal organizations.
Luo Mingyuan feared that new victims would appear.
His fears were justified. Only a few hours after Fu Qingya fell into a deep sleep, a mass suicide case occurred quietly at the City’s Ninth Middle School. The victims were students again, all showing no prior symptoms, yet they attempted suicide uncontrollably on the same day in different locations.
Fortunately, the moment the Ministry of Education received Luo Mingyuan’s report, they had issued an emergency notice. Every school was on high alert, allowing the police to rescue this latest group of victims immediately after they began their attempts. They were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Thanks to the timely intervention, although these victims remained in a coma just like Li Xiaowen, they at least survived.
However, this meant the pressure on Fu Qingya had doubled once again.
The hospital where those children were sent was right next door to this one. Luo Mingyuan didn’t tell Fu Qingya. No matter how many victims there were, it wouldn’t change the fact that Fu Qingya was already pouring his soul into developing the antidote. Telling him might only add more pressure and hinder his progress.
After weighing his options, Luo Mingyuan chose to keep it a secret.
Unaware of the new developments, Fu Qingya woke up and dove straight back into the research lab.
As time ticked away, Fu Qingya finally broke through a major hurdle in his research.
