The Frenzied Savior - Chapter 15
Why did the timer shorten again when no living being had approached the pillar the entire time?
As that panicked thought flashed through his mind, Fu Qingya had already lunged past him toward the “Hidden Thunder.”
Crack—
In a single second, his transparent scalpel pried open the protective casing. Fu Qingya’s long fingers brushed over the internal circuitry, and in a near-instant, the sharp drill bit accurately located and severed the control wires.
There was still one more!
Fu Qingya’s fingers were throbbing with intense pain from the sheer force and speed of his movements, but he couldn’t stop. He continued to scavenge for the hidden line.
[0:03—]
With only three seconds left on the clock, Fu Qingya forcibly wrenched out a black wire.
There was no more time!
A flash of ruthless determination crossed Fu Qingya’s eyes. He suddenly lowered his head and dragged out the mechanical heart, and while cutting the hidden circuits with his hands, he clamped his teeth down on it with a savage bite.
Even with protective gear covering his body, he was still flesh and blood. Against a formidable mechanical construct, Fu Qingya’s mouth was instantly filled with blood.
A couple of pearly white teeth tumbled from the corner of his mouth.
In that moment, Luo Mingyuan felt as if the entire world had turned a visceral shade of red.
[0:01—]
The countdown on the screen came to a dead halt at the final second. Along with a harsh sizzle, the screen looked as though it were about to shatter.
However, a few seconds later, it suddenly flickered back to life, looking as good as new.
A microphone-shaped icon appeared before their eyes.
Luo Mingyuan moved his hands behind his back, his palms sliced open by his own fingernails from gripping them so hard that blood seeped through his knuckles. He carefully plucked the mechanical chip out of Fu Qingya’s mouth and helped the man to his feet.
His wary, guarded gaze fell upon the holographic mechanical screen.
[“Hidden Thunder” Blacklist: Target has been added to Lord Jay Hardy’s A-Series Blacklist. All assets under Lord Jay Hardy’s name will henceforth target and suppress this individual.]
[Dear carbon-based lifeform, good luck.]
Snap.
Fu Qingya pursed his lips. As expected, this was the handiwork of Jay Hardy, a vanguard soldier of the A48 Galaxy known for his cruelty and bloodlust!
When the A48 Galaxy launched its massive invasion of Earth, this vanguard soldier utilized his deep understanding of humanity to ruthlessly use psychological warfare alongside A48 bombs to massacre the population.
He had driven a humanity already terrified by the alien invasion into total mental collapses. Many people, unable to endure a life devoid of hope, had simply given up on themselves.
He was an executioner who understood human nature and knew exactly how to use its weaknesses to deliver fatal blows to his opponents.
From the various details of this “Hidden Thunder” incident, it was easy to see that the opponent had been provoking him, terrifying him, and even attempting to crush his resolve at every turn, hoping the threat of death would make him retreat.
However, while the enemy understood human nature, he had forgotten to account for the diversity of the human species. There will always be a group of people in this world who do not fear life or death, and who are willing to do the things others dare not.
As it happened, neither Fu Qingya, who had returned from rebirth and long since set aside the notion of survival, nor Luo Mingyuan, who had spent years wandering the edge of death, were cowards.
To stop the “Hidden Thunder” from exploding, Fu Qingya had lost two teeth. His jaw muscles ached and his mouth was full of blood, but even so, he didn’t feel the slightest urge to back down.
Fu Qingya pulled out some paper to press against the gap in his teeth. His fingertips smeared the blood on his lips as he retorted with perfect clarity, “Thanks for the concern. I’ll do my best to ensure you, you hunk of scrap metal, remain miserable.”
With that, he crumpled the blood-stained paper into a ball and tossed it into a distant trash can with pinpoint accuracy. Still dripping blood, he crouched back down in front of the “Hidden Thunder” with his scalpel.
“You should go stop the bleeding now.”
The bleeding from losing teeth by force was much more severe than a natural loss, and Fu Qingya had lost two.
Even if stopping the blood wasn’t the priority, Luo Mingyuan felt he needed to drag this man away to get some pain relief.
The threat had been neutralized, it wasn’t going anywhere, and his health was the immediate concern. But he saw that Fu Qingya had absolutely no intention of treating his wounds.
He actually intended to continue dismantling the “Hidden Thunder” and appeared to be modifying his scalpel on the spot, letting the blood flow freely from his gums.
“This ‘Hidden Thunder’ is different. It uses the No. 26987 core energy source and follows the G66678 installation method. Its reuse value is high, and it’s time-sensitive.”
“I need to find its hidden energy source immediately.”
Fu Qingya didn’t even look up. He was immersed in the mechanical world, searching for the usable energy hidden within.
Luo Mingyuan placed his hand on Fu Qingya’s waist, intending to repeat his previous tactic of carrying him away, but his wrist was pinned down by Fu Qingya with incredible speed.
“Do not provoke me.”
Fu Qingya disliked being forced. Even if Luo Mingyuan meant well, to Fu Qingya, it was an interruption and a hindrance.
At this moment, every second of his time was precious.
Though he was displeased, Fu Qingya only pressed down on the back of Luo Mingyuan’s hand, yet he managed to stop Luo Mingyuan’s movements completely.
If Fu Qingya hadn’t pulled his hand back quickly, Luo Mingyuan felt he wouldn’t have been able to pull his own hand away at all.
How was Fu Qingya’s strength this immense?
No wonder he could not only take down a No. 28 combat robot by himself, but also forcibly rip out the internal parts of the “Hidden Thunder,” and even snap a mechanical chip core using nothing but his teeth.
Why did Fu Qingya have such strength?
Luo Mingyuan was curious, but he was wise enough not to disturb him further. Instead, he turned and went to a nearby pharmacy that hadn’t had time to close its doors to buy some medical supplies.
“Open up.”
The magnetic, pleasant voice sounded in his ear. Fu Qingya opened his mouth reflexively, and a second later, a cold liquid was applied to the painful area.
Fu Qingya finally spared a glance upward.
That look was indescribably strange, as if surprise were mingled with nostalgia, daze, sorrow, and relief. It left Luo Mingyuan stunned for a moment.
“You can continue.”
Luo Mingyuan pushed Fu Qingya’s head back down and continued treating the wound.
Looking at the gap in the man’s otherwise perfect row of white teeth, Luo Mingyuan couldn’t help but feel a pang of pity, along with a surge of murderous intent and rage directed at the culprit.
Ultimately, it all dissolved into a sense of helplessness and the frustration of being unable to help.
It was the first time he truly felt useless. What on earth were those things?
Why did they possess such powerful technology?
And why did they harbor such immense malice toward humanity?
Luo Mingyuan was deeply puzzled, but he didn’t think to ask Fu Qingya, as his father had already explained the situation to him.
Fu Qingya held an extremely peculiar attitude toward the authorities. Currently, it wasn’t the right time to probe the secrets hidden in his heart, lest the man become overemotional and develop misunderstandings toward them.
If he developed a negative perception of the government, it would completely sever their tacit cooperation.
Given the current situation with a powerful enemy hiding in the shadows, that wouldn’t be a good thing for either party.
Luo Mingyuan had always been devoted to his duty and never let personal feelings interfere with his work. Thus, he stayed within bounds, showing no intention of prying into Fu Qingya’s background.
He didn’t need to know that much. He only needed to take good care of this self-neglecting guy, like stopping his bleeding and feeding him painkillers.
After glancing at Luo Mingyuan a few more times, Fu Qingya obediently let the other man fuss over him. His eyes remained fixed on the “Hidden Thunder” beneath him, his hands moving at lightning speed.
A Fu Qingya who opened his mouth when told and swallowed when told looked incredibly well-behaved. As Luo Mingyuan watched, he felt that the inadvertent coldness and distance in the man’s features had softened considerably.
Now that he was idle, Luo Mingyuan’s gaze couldn’t help but wander across Fu Qingya’s face.
