The Fragile Supporting Lady Is Too Clingy - Chapter 17
Li Qiuyue looked up at the child and, for some reason, felt a slight hesitation in her heart. An emotion had just begun to gather, making her somewhat sad, but it quickly dissipated.
Her face showed neither sorrow nor joy, she was accustomed to receiving nothing.
The woman reached out and gently stroked the child’s face, as if offering comfort, and the child froze once more.
Li Anyu whispered in his ear, “The one who touched you just now was Third Sister. This is Second Sister. Don’t cry, hurry and greet her.”
Li Shaokang twisted his body with effort, turning to cling to Li Anyu, refusing to call out. His large, round eyes only dared to steal cautious glances at them.
Li Luolan, noticing all the attention was on Li Anyu and the child, frowned. “Sixth Sister, I don’t mean to criticize, but how could you raise Eighth Brother to be so timid? If he’s even afraid of his own sisters, what can we expect him to accomplish in the future?”
Li Anyu’s face flushed from the scolding, but she didn’t dare argue. She lowered her head and softly stroked her younger brother’s delicate back.
The child was sensitive to emotions. His lips quivered, and he was on the verge of tears again. Li Shuyu, seeing the glistening tears welling up in his eyes, was startled and quickly said, “He’s just a child! Why must you be so harsh?”
With that, she reached out to touch the child’s soft cheeks, coaxing him gently, “Don’t cry, don’t cry. We won’t bully you.”
The child strained his neck, trying to avoid her hand, but couldn’t escape it. As a result, he cried even harder, his sobs growing more pitiful.
Li Shuyu froze, a hint of embarrassment on her face. She exchanged a glance with Li Qiuyue before hurriedly withdrawing her hand and clutching her sister’s sleeve instead. Leaning in, she whispered in complaint, “Why is he crying again? Do I look that scary?”
Li Qiuyue swept her gaze over her calmly. To be fair, the girl was exquisitely beautiful far from frightening. But she had likely forgotten how coldly she had treated the concubine-born children in the past, including Eighth Brother, who had endured many of her disdainful looks despite his young age.
Though she thought this, she still said aloud, “No, Third Sister is very beautiful.”
Well, the female lead had complimented her!
She felt a little happy.
Li Shuyu tightened her grip on the female lead’s soft hand and waved at Li Anyu. “Eighth Brother might just be shy. Hurry and take him back to comfort him before he cries himself breathless.”
Hearing this, Li Anyu nodded quickly and left.
She was also afraid of Li Shuyu. She had only been forced to stay and socialize by her mother’s insistence. Now that she had permission to leave, she naturally made a quick escape.
Once she was gone, Li Luolan forgot about the earlier scolding and immediately latched onto Li Shuyu again, chatting and laughing brightly.
Li Qiuyue watched coldly, inexplicably recalling how children with mothers had once mocked her, motherless as she was.
She tugged lightly on Li Shuyu’s hand. When the other turned to look at her, she said softly, “Third Sister, I’m tired. When can we go back?”
Her constitution had always been weak, and after standing for a while, her face had grown pale.
Li Shuyu frowned, supporting her lower back with concern. “How are you tired so easily? Should we call a physician to check on you?”
Li Luolan had just been about to invite Li Shuyu for tea when she was interrupted. Annoyed, she sneered, “Second Sister’s health is still so poor. Who knows how many more years she has left?”
Li Shuyu couldn’t believe what she had just heard. Her brows shot up, and she whipped her head around angrily. “What nonsense are you spouting?! My Second Sister has me to take care of her of course she’ll live a long life!!!”
Damn, the female lead in her story is beautiful and delicate, evoking pity at every turn, anyone who sees her would soften their heart. How could this person say such things!
Li Shuyu’s sudden cold expression made Li Luolan panic, as if she hadn’t expected the other to speak up for Li Qiuyue.
Hadn’t she always looked down from above, watching the illegitimate children fight among themselves?
Before Li Luolan could stammer out any excuses, Li Shuyu had already taken the female lead’s hand, her face full of displeasure. “Let’s go. I’ll take you back.”
Even in her fury, she remembered Li Qiuyue saying she was tired. One hand held her arm while the other supported her waist, shielding her completely.
“Rest for a while when we get back. I’ll call the physician to check on you.”
She leaned in to speak close to the other’s ear, her warm breath brushing against the woman’s skin.
The woman’s dark eyes trembled slightly before she softly replied, “Okay.”
Third Sister had grown increasingly attentive to her. In the past, she had never imagined such a day would come.
Just now, she had even gotten angry for her sake something the old Li Shuyu would never have done.
Li Qiuyue blinked, finally relaxing her body and subtly leaning against the other’s shoulder.
“We’re almost there. If you can’t walk anymore, I’ll have someone bring a sedan chair for you?”
Her eyes were filled with genuine concern. Li Qiuyue paused, then slowly shook her head. “No need. I can walk. Thank you for your concern, Third Sister.”
Li Shuyu frowned slightly. “We’re sisters. No need for such formalities.”
Yes, they were sisters.
Li Qiuyue lowered her head and said nothing more, obediently following beside Li Qiuyue.
Glancing over and seeing the woman’s pale complexion, Li Shuyu couldn’t help but feel pity. this female lead was born frail and had been constantly bullied by the original host.
She was so beautiful, with such a gentle temperament, she should be adored by everyone.
Was the male lead blind? Couldn’t he see how wonderful Second Sister was?
At this thought, Li Shuyu froze in horror. She had always been a staunch supporter of the female protagonist!
How had her heart become so biased the moment she transmigrated into the book?
Well, it was probably because the female lead’s life was too miserable, and people naturally sympathized with the weak.
Especially when she was this beautiful.
Li Shuyu stared at the woman’s snow-white, peerlessly beautiful face her sharp chin, her delicate features, each detail seemingly carved to perfection, tugging at her heartstrings.
Gradually, that fair complexion flushed pink, and the woman subtly turned her face away, avoiding Li Shuyu’s intense gaze.
Dazzled by the breathtaking beauty, Li Shuyu lost herself for a moment, until she stepped on a small pebble, the sharp pain in her foot making her stumble. She nearly dragged Li Qiuyue down with her.
Gasps rose from the maids in the garden. Instinctively, Li Shuyu wrapped an arm around Li Qiuyue’s waist, pulling her close while shielding the back of her head. Only when she steadied herself did she let go.
Li Qiuyue turned her face away, inexplicably silent.
Meanwhile, Li Shuyu shamelessly checked her over, her voice full of concern. “Did you twist anything? It was my carelessness. Second Sister, don’t be angry.”
She treated Li Qiuyue as someone prone to anger, even though the woman had never once been angry with her.
The woman’s slender hand was still fumbling around her waist. Li Qiu Yue initially didn’t want to pay her any attention, but in the end, she didn’t dare, afraid she might revert to her former self. After a moment, she lowered her head and muttered sullenly, “I didn’t twist anything, and I’m not angry.”
Not angry? Then why was she wrinkling her nose?
Her rosy lips were also slightly pouted.
It was just a few glances. this supporting female character was oddly stingy. Born so beautiful, yet she wouldn’t let her look.
