- Chapter 2 - Recognizing Two People, Opening Eyes
“Master, dodge! She’s a demon! Kill this demon!”
The young girl’s pupils widened in alarm. Just as she thought she was about to be pierced by the sword, the sound of colliding objects reached her ears.
The sword was struck away, embedding itself in the floor with a clanging tremor.
And Xiaoyu watched the treasured sword that saved her life suddenly shatter into emerald green fragments before her eyes, re-forming into an emerald jade flute. Its exterior glowed with a green luster, and its texture was like fine jade.
Xiaoyu’s gaze followed the jade flute back to Wenyu, seeing it spontaneously hang from Wenyu’s waist.
Wenyu steadied himself. Glancing at the scattered body parts on the floor, his eyes instantly darkened, becoming terrifyingly deep.
He had relapsed again.
“Master!”
Xiaoyu turned her head again to look at the newcomer, seeing the dainty, white-robed girl step over the corpses on the ground, drawing her sword and grasping it tightly.
Breathing a deep sigh of relief, still shaken, she retreated towards Wenyu.
She had almost died!
Huddling behind Wenyu, Xiaoyu poked her head out to carefully observe the white-robed girl.
The girl was not old and was quite good-looking, but she would be prettier if she wasn’t staring at Xiaoyu so fiercely.
Her white robes were stained with blood and had a few scratches. Her hair was slightly messy; she must have just finished a fight.
This girl, who was staring with wide, angry eyes and calling out “Master,” must be the original novel’s heroine, Duammu Ying.
“The beast outside captured Senior Brother! Master, you actually stopped me from killing this demon?”
This sentence made Xiaoyu recall the content of the original book.
Wenyu had come to the Demon Domain looking for the heroine’s aunt. When he encountered the original body, it was precisely the time when the hero and heroine were causing chaos in the Demon Domain.
The hero was captured by the Demon Domain elders while protecting the heroine. After the hero was captured, the heroine immediately rushed to find Wenyu.
By the time she found him, Wenyu had already dealt with the original body and gone to rescue the hero.
While rescuing, he discovered that this part of the Demon Domain captured humans from the human world to eat. He then destroyed the entire Demon Domain with a single sword, rescued the hero and heroine, and also saved the trapped humans.
Xiaoyu withdrew her gaze, quietly thinking: It seems my arrival has slightly altered the original plot.
As she was meticulously recalling the original plot, she suddenly caught sight of the cold, gleaming sword pointing directly at her and retreated repeatedly.
In her panic, she pushed too hard with her foot and accidentally twisted her toe.
Xiaoyu’s toe hurt so much that she had to put weight on her heel to ease the pain.
She didn’t dare to speak. In the original book, the heroine killed any demon she saw. Wenyu had just ordered her to ‘seduce’ him in some way. Now that the heroine was here, she might end up like the original body and die.
Xiaoyu had never liked the heroine when she read the book.
Relying on her Master being the most powerful Sword Venerable in the world, she threw tantrums everywhere. While others only dared to be angry but not speak, she dared to be angry and retaliate.
Later, for the sake of the hero, she blackmailed Wenyu by claiming Wenyu owed her father a favor, forcing Wenyu to sacrifice a century of his cultivation to save the hero. This resulted in Wenyu being no match for the villainous Demon Venerable during their fight, forcing him to fight desperately and ultimately perish together with the villain.
Xiaoyu stopped reading after Wenyu died, so she didn’t know the later plot.
Now that Duanmu Ying was standing in front of her and had tried to kill her moments ago, she liked her even less.
“Senior Brother was captured by those damned demonic beasts. We need to go save him.”
Duanmu Ying pointed her sword at Xiaoyu, full of impatience, yet subtly revealing some worry.
Xiaoyu felt extremely awkward standing there.
Wenyu had just said some incomprehensible things not found in the book, actually telling her to go and ‘seduce’ him.
Could this truly be the kind of thing the immortal, desireless Sword Venerable in the book would say?
But if she wanted to leave here, she had to rely on Wenyu. The demonic beasts that rushed in earlier were terrifying. She had no courage to face the ferocious demons outside.
She could only cling to Wenyu as her lifeline.
Wuwuwu, when others transmigrate into books, they become rich young ladies, or at least a supporting female character. Why did she end up as cannon fodder who is about to die?
The fox ears on her head drooped limply. Xiaoyu awkwardly hugged herself, dragging her heels back, trying to escape Duanmu Ying’s murderous gaze.
Wenyu looked back at the girl hiding behind him, seeing her mournful expression, seemingly unaware of his abnormality just now.
His gaze saw the girl look up at him, her eyes full of pleading and a desperate will to live.
A thought crossed his mind. He turned back and said to Duanmu Ying: “She understands the demon language. She’s useful to us. We won’t kill her for now.”
Xiaoyu: “?”
She understands the demon language?
How did she not know that?
What does ‘won’t kill her for now’ mean?
So, they still plan to kill her later, right?
Xiaoyu stiffened, retreating a step, only to see Wenyu turn directly to face her.
She shuddered and forced a smile onto her face: “Daoist priest…”
“I need to go rescue someone. I need you to do some things.”
As soon as Wenyu said this, Duanmu Ying immediately moved closer, pointing her sword at Xiaoyu as a threat: “If you don’t obey, you won’t need my Master to act. I can kill you right now.”
Xiaoyu’s feet were crossed, her toes so cold they were almost numb.
What could she do but obey?
“Don’t, I agree. I agree, alright?”
First, save her own life. She could run away later when she had the chance.
She had no memory of the original body when she transmigrated, only roughly guessing that the plot had progressed about one-fifth of the way. Moreover, the hero’s predicament to save the heroine this time was a turning point in the hero and heroine’s relationship.
The more Xiaoyu thought about it, the more her head hurt. She had just transmigrated. How was she supposed to know the original body’s abilities or status? The original body only appeared once in the book before dying, and the details provided were less thorough than those of other characters.
And she still didn’t have the original body’s memory. She could only take it one step at a time.
“Hmph, at least you’re sensible. If Second Senior Brother weren’t absent, we wouldn’t need you,” Duanmu Ying put away her sword, looking at Xiaoyu with ill intent. The killing intent in her eyes was clearly visible.
While they were talking, the outside of the room had long fallen silent. The carved and painted building was eerily quiet.
“Master, let’s go save Senior Brother quickly.” Duanmu Ying didn’t know why Wenyu had to meet with a demon, but saving Senior Brother was the most urgent matter. There was no time to deal with this demon.
Upon hearing Duanmu Ying’s words, Xiaoyu immediately recalled where the hero was imprisoned in the book. She shakily raised her hand and whispered, “I know a place where humans are held captive.”
In the book, after the hero was captured, he was locked up with other humans seized by the demonic beasts. If the plot hadn’t changed, the hero would be there.
The moment Xiaoyu finished speaking, she saw two intense gazes focus on her.
A moment later, a bare foot stepped out of the gilded doorway.
The foot quickly recoiled the moment it crossed the threshold and touched the ground.
“Why aren’t you moving?”
A cold voice came from behind. Duanmu Ying placed her sword against Xiaoyu’s neck. The cold blade made Xiaoyu shiver.
Xiaoyu didn’t dare to look back, and said plaintively, “There are shards all over the floor…”
Fragments of pottery and fallen furnishings were mixed together, covering the floor in debris. If she walked barefoot, she would be pierced.
“So what?” Duanmu Ying retracted her sword and pushed Xiaoyu. Xiaoyu quickly grabbed the door frame, preventing herself from being pushed out.
Leaning against the door frame, she lifted her foot and accused, “I’m not wearing shoes. How will I walk if I get cut?”
It was bad enough being a “beast of burden” in her original world, but at least she had shoes.
Here, she didn’t have a single pair of shoes and was having a sword pointed at her neck. Infuriating!
Duanmu Ying scoffed: “Don’t all you demons have thick skin? Are you afraid of being pricked? Don’t try any tricks. Take me to the place where the humans are locked up!”
Xiaoyu pouted, not wanting to listen to Duanmu Ying.
She was about to move when she suddenly felt her whole body sway. Then, she felt her body tighten. In the blink of an eye, the chaos in front of her disappeared. She suddenly saw the pitch-black night sky and the brightly lit streets below.
She looked down and saw herself suspended in mid-air. Beneath her were demonic beasts in various forms.
However, almost no human-form demons were visible here; they were all in their most primitive forms.
Xiaoyu shut her eyes tightly, not daring to look anymore.
Wenyu’s voice sounded in her ear, becoming the only thing she could rely on in this chaotic Demon Domain.
“Open your eyes.”
Xiaoyu was breathing rapidly. She slowly opened a slight crack.
“Point out the location of the place you spoke of.”
Listening to Wenyu’s words, Xiaoyu tried her best to overcome her fear, diligently searching while recalling the place where the hero was imprisoned in the book.
It was a giant golden cage, suspended in mid-air. Below it was a large water pool containing man-eating demonic beasts.
If she just looked up, she should be able to see that very conspicuous cage.
But Xiaoyu searched for a long time and didn’t see it.
Duanmu Ying flew over on her sword, seeing Xiaoyu suspended in mid-air by Wenyu, and anxiously asked, “Did you find it?”
Wenyu did not answer, his gaze fixed on Xiaoyu’s face.
Xiaoyu had no choice but to shake her head. Enduring her physical discomfort, she described the cage to the two of them.
Duanmu Ying didn’t see the cage and thought Xiaoyu was lying: “There is no golden cage hanging in the air here. You should at least make up a believable lie.”
Xiaoyu wanted to cry. That’s what the book said! How was she supposed to know if it was really there?
Duanmu Ying was about to speak further when she saw Wenyu raise his hand, signaling her to be quiet. She had to hold back.
“She probably wouldn’t lie to us.”
Xiaoyu nodded rapidly, just about to agree, when she suddenly heard a loud boom, which made her body tremble.
Immediately after, she watched as the buildings in the city collapsed in the night sky. From mid-air, it looked as if the earth had sunken, turning into ruins in the blink of an eye.
The demonic beasts on the streets scattered everywhere, yet not a single one noticed anyone suspended in mid-air.
Xiaoyu was dumbfounded. When she saw the water overflowing after the buildings collapsed, and the golden cage gradually appearing, she finally remembered. The original book described that Wenyu only exposed the dirty dealings and cannibalistic cruelty of this Demon Domain after finding the hero.
A sword carrying a destructive force flashed across Xiaoyu’s vision. When she looked again, it had already landed in Wenyu’s hand.
Xiaoyu was utterly speechless. So, Wenyu caused this? Did he just destroy an entire Demon Domain?
Is this the power of the strongest Sword Venerable in the original book?
Xiaoyu hugged herself tightly, shivering.
She hoped Wenyu would spare her life, given her sincere surrender.
She didn’t want to die.
“It really is there!” Duanmu Ying saw the cage emerge. Just as she was about to fly over on her sword, Wenyu called out to stop her.
“Don’t move.”
The next second, a gigantic demonic beast burst out of the ground, splashing water several meters high. The mud covering its thick carapace scattered. A pair of scarlet eyes, larger than a human head, focused on them. When Xiaoyu met its gaze, her mind spun. If Wenyu hadn’t been holding her, she would have fallen already.
Duanmu Ying was also affected, barely managing to steady herself by controlling her mind.
“Humans! Destroying my Demon Domain! Are you tired of living?” The gigantic beast discovered them.
The beast’s massive size was enough to cover the sky. Its scarlet eyes looked like two full moons hanging in the air from a distance.
Wenyu tilted his head and asked Xiaoyu, “What is it saying?”
Xiaoyu was startled back to her senses by the voice and let out an “Ah.”
She immediately replied: “It’s asking if you want to die.”
