Guo Lanyi thought Tang Hua was joking. But when she looked at her expression, Tang Hua actually seemed quite serious which made her suddenly unsure.

But the problem was… she and Tang Hua had never done anything. They had only met for the first time about a month ago. There was no way she could possibly be the biological parent of Tang Hua’s child.

Surely this woman was messing with her on purpose.

“I gathered a bunch of top-tier Alpha genes and signed multiple pregnancy service agreements with a research institute,” she said casually, as if that was the most normal thing in the world. “Eventually, I successfully conceived this child.”

“President Lu says I stole those Alpha genes,” she added, blinking innocently. “But how could that be?”

“I mean, I’m just a fragile little Omega—empty-handed, no resources. How could I have stolen something so precisely from a huge research institute?” She nodded seriously. “There must’ve been an inside mole helping me.”

Then she added helpfully, “But you might want to check if your own genetic sample has gone missing.”

She tilted her head, shoulders slightly raised in mock shyness, and said softly, “If it’s missing… maybe this baby is your long-lost, precious child.”

As ridiculous as Tang Hua’s story sounded—like she was making it up on the spot—Guo Lanyi couldn’t just ignore it. What if her genetic sample had gone missing? What if it had somehow ended up… with Tang Hua?

Then she added, stubborn and slightly aggrieved, “Not that I even could force you.”

Which, to be fair, was true. Tang Hua was just a powerless Omega. She didn’t have influence or resources. What could she do besides bluff and talk her way through things? But still… everything she’d said earlier wasn’t completely out of the realm of possibility.

Without a second thought, she took off running toward the scene, heart pounding in panic.

“Thank you for saving me.”

Then she looked back at Tang Hua and added softly, “And thank you too… you saved me again.”

Tang Hua’s lips twitched. Saving the damsel in distress again wasn’t exactly part of the plan. Honestly, she would’ve preferred if the heroine could just stay safe without all the drama—less mess for everyone, especially her.

“Don’t be so polite,” Tang Hua replied. “We’re close enough for that.”

Water was still dripping from Guo Lanyi’s clothes. She glanced down at herself, clearly assessing the damage, then gave Tang Hua a pointed, almost sarcastic look. “I really shouldn’t have come tonight.”

Tang Hua knew exactly what she meant. Feeling guilty, she looked away quickly, avoiding her gaze.

Still, Guo Lanyi had jumped in without hesitation to save Cheng Yuan—despite the risk to herself. Tang Hua hurried to grab another towel from a nearby server and draped it over her shoulders. Smiling flatteringly, she said, “Sister Lanyi, you’re so kind and heroic. Us poor Omegas were mesmerized by the way you dove into the water just now!”

“You’re responsible, capable, and brave. After tonight, you’ll never have to worry about marriage again!”
