The First Senior Sister Is Weak and Helpless - Chapter 4
After stopping her actions, Feng Yang looked at Mu Yao with a furrowed brow once again. “You must not tell anyone about this matter.”
Mu Yao nodded very earnestly. “This disciple understands. Since it concerns the safety of the little junior sister, this disciple will never leak this matter to anyone. It is just that I am afraid others might also perceive this constitution.”
“It is fine. I will go seek an item and naturally seal this cauldron constitution for her. These days, your little junior sister will be left in your care.” With that, Feng Yang patted Mu Yao on the shoulder.
Mu Yao expressionlessly stretched out her hand toward her. “Spirit stones. This disciple’s spirit stones have already been spent on taking care of the junior sisters.”
Feng Yang touched her nose and retrieved a small storage pouch from her storage ring. “I almost forgot. Remember to ask Master yourself next time. Master is too busy and prone to forgetting things.”
Mu Yao took it unceremoniously, and after probing it slightly, she was quite satisfied with the spirit stones Feng Yang gave this time, receiving ten thousand high-grade spirit stones, which could be considered quite generous.
“What item is Master going to seek? How long will you need to be out?” Mu Yao asked curiously.
“I am going to Kongchan Valley. The inner core of a ten-thousand-year Kongchan will naturally conceal your junior sister’s constitution from others. Even a mighty figure at the Xuanming Realm will not be able to tell, unless they have already entered the Lunhui Realm,” Feng Yang said with a solemn expression.
“A ten-thousand-year Kongchan?” Mu Yao’s expression changed slightly. Although the combat power of a Kongchan is not particularly high, Kongchan Valley is filled with countless fierce beasts, and the Kongchan is extremely adept at concealing itself. Mu Yao furrowed her brows with some concern.
“Will Master be in danger on this trip?”
Feng Yang rubbed her head. “As a master, I must go even if there is danger for the sake of my disciple.”
Mu Yao said nothing further, only instructing Feng Yang very solemnly. “This disciple will definitely take good care of the little junior sister.”
Seeing her eldest disciple’s serious expression, Feng Yang chuckled lightly, then bent down and rubbed her little face. “You do not need to be so nervous. Master knows you have done very well and taken great care of both junior sisters. After all, you are Master’s proudest disciple.”
Mu Yao’s cheeks flushed slightly. Although she usually felt her master was somewhat unreliable, Mu Yao also knew that her master treated all of them exceptionally well. Whether it was her or the junior sisters, every single one of them had been rescued by her master.
“How long will Master be gone this trip?” Mu Yao asked.
“One or two years at the fastest, three years at the latest before I return. Besides, it is merely Kongchan Valley; your master can come and go as she pleases in Beixuan Mountain, let alone a tiny Kongchan Valley.” Feng Yang smiled at her eldest disciple. “Yaoyao just needs to guard the home well.”
Mu Yao reached out to remove Feng Yang’s hand and pinched her cheek instead. She was already so old; was this appropriate?
“Then what about the little junior sister within these next few years? What if someone else finds out?” Mu Yao still straightened her face and brought up the crucial matter.
“It is not that easy to find out. I just added a restriction inside her body, so even if your Master of the Sect comes, he will not be able to see through it. Of course, it is hard to say regarding your Senior Uncle Fanyan, since her medical skills are beyond my understanding.”
Mu Yao believed this statement. Throughout the Tianqing Sect, if her master claimed to be second in strength, no one dared claim first. Although she was occasionally eccentric, her combat strength was unquestionable, while Senior Uncle Fanyan was supreme in both alchemy and medical skills.
The Sect Master had once said that although her master possessed only the peak of the Xuanming Realm in strength, the cultivators in the entire cultivation world who could fight her could be counted on one hand. There were only two, to be exact: the sect master of the number one sect in the world, the Zixiao Sect, and the Demon Lord of the Demon Realm.
Mu Yao had never left the sect since her master brought her back during her childhood, and thus she had no real concept of the people the senior uncle mentioned.
“Then can Master defeat the Demon Lord?” At that time, Mu Yao had only asked this question.
The Sect Master had merely taken a sip of tea and smiled as he said. “I can fight him, but I cannot defeat him. Moreover, there are too many powerhouses among the demons. Nowadays, talents are withering in the cultivation world; if the demons were not trapped outside Beixuan Mountain and unable to mobilize their entire force, I am afraid the cultivation world would have fallen into peril long ago.”
At that time, Mu Yao was too young to understand all of that, knowing only that even her master could not deal with the Demon Lord.
Having finished speaking, Feng Yang once again rubbed Mu Yao’s head. “Relax, do not place such high demands on yourself. Our sect was exiled by the cultivation world in the first place, so why try so hard?”
“Then why does Master practice cultivation with such effort?” Mu Yao asked curiously.
“For no one in particular, I simply wish to pursue greater power and see if there truly is a fairy realm above this firmament, nothing more.” Feng Yang flicked her forehead. “How come you did not inherit even half of your master’s open-mindedness?”
Mu Yao had just opened her mouth to reply when, before the words could even leave her mouth, little Wenjiu began to cry.
Hearing the baby’s crying, both master and disciple felt a jolt in their hearts.
“Yaoyao, your little junior sister is left to you. Master will definitely return as soon as possible.” With that, Mu Yao felt her master vanish right on the spot.
Mu Yao massaged the bridge of her nose, having no choice but to resign herself to fate and go soothe little Wenjiu.
She walked over to little Wenjiu and gently rocked the cradle. “Be good, do not cry.”
Mu Yao genuinely had no idea how to comfort a little one, so she could only rock the cradle with one hand while flicking the small bell hanging above it.
Yet this time it seemed to do little good. The little one watched Mu Yao play with the bell for a moment before resuming her loud wails.
All the spiritual plants and small spirit beasts on the entire Xiaoyao Peak were startled awake by the baby’s cries, sneaking over one by one to take a look.
Mu Yao had never realized that Xiaoyao Peak could be this lively.
Although Xiaoyao Peak was planted with many spiritual plants that had yet to take human form, along with some small spirit beasts of moderate intelligence, these creatures usually kept to themselves and never disturbed Mu Yao.
The sword path Mu Yao practiced relied on ice-attribute cultivation techniques, and a ten-mile radius around her Snow-Borrowing Pavilion maintained an unmelting chill all year round.
Consequently, these creatures were unwilling to draw close. But once little Wenjiu arrived, the entire Xiaoyao Peak seemed flooded with her cries, giving Mu Yao a severe headache.
Yet toward such a tiny little thing, she had no heart to scold her, and after trying every method to no avail, she still failed to quiet the child.
Driven to utter helplessness, Mu Yao had no choice but to pick the little one up.
As soon as she picked her up and coaxed her slightly, the little one stopped crying and actually chuckled merrily right in Mu Yao’s arms.
Hearing her giggle, Mu Yao finally breathed a sigh of relief. “What difference is there between being held by me and sleeping by yourself?”
Mu Yao truly failed to understand this, but her incomprehension mattered little; the little one simply behaved this way.
Mu Yao herself was only fifteen years old; how could she possibly know so much about infants? In short, seeing that the little one had stopped crying, she relaxed and sat down with her under the moonlight.
Whatever magical charm she possessed, before long, the little one fell fast asleep.
Mu Yao twitched her ears and heard the infant’s even breathing, then once again lightfootedly placed the little one back into her small chair.
After putting her down, Mu Yao suddenly remembered that her master had not even provided the little one with a small blanket or anything similar. Since her junior sister was so young and did not practice cultivation yet, would she really not be cold out here in her courtyard?
Pondering for a moment, Mu Yao rummaged through her storage ring and finally managed to find a small warming array formation, which she set up right beside little Wenjiu.
Once finished, she reached out to touch the little one’s face and hands; they felt slightly warmer than before.
Quite satisfied with the current arrangement, Mu Yao returned alone to the cold spring in the back mountain to resume her daily seated meditation and cultivation.
Ever since she began her cultivation journey, this had been her daily routine. With her calm state of mind, peerless talent, and water spiritual roots, Mu Yao’s cultivation progressed by leaps and bounds.
At such a young age, she had already reached the Soul-Condensing Realm. Such talent was a cut above the rest across the entire cultivation world, yet Mu Yao never left the sect and seemed to hold no curiosity whatsoever about the outside world.
Feng Yang always teased that at such a young age, she acted just like an ascetic monk, completely lacking the style of their sect.
Mu Yao would only reply to her with a faint hum and continue her cultivation.
She had been born blind in both eyes. Feng Yang had told her that her eye affliction might never heal throughout her entire life, though perhaps once she reached the Lunhui Realm, a way might be found to cure her blindness.
Cultivation realms were divided into nine stages: Body Tempering, Meridian Condensing, Soul Refining, Earth Soul, Heaven Soul, Heaven Origin, Origin Martial, Xuanming, and Lunhui. Currently, Mu Yao was only at the Soul-Condensing Realm, and whether she could ever reach the Lunhui Realm in this lifetime remained uncertain.
In the beginning, Mu Yao had harbored this obsession, but as her cultivation deepened, that obsession gradually faded away.
The young girl dressed in green robes sat poised in the cold spring, moonlight falling upon her dark hair, which faintly shimmered with a pale greenish hue.
A light veil covered the young girl’s eyes, completely shielding them.
Spiritual energy poured endlessly into her body, circulating through her meridians across her entire frame. As she entered deep meditation, a layer of frost gradually formed over the spot where she sat cross-legged, sealing the surface of the cold spring in ice.
As the morning light gradually brightened, the chill of the cold spring dissipated considerably.
The first ray of sunlight landed upon the young girl, making the scenery resemble an exquisite painting, while the girl looked like an untainted fairy descending from the nine heavens.
Mu Yao reached out her hand, letting the sunlight fall upon her palm. Though she could not see the sunlight, she could sense the temperature of the world, possessing a subtle innate perception of all things in heaven and earth.
Her thoughts remained immersed in last night’s insights, but they were soon interrupted by the sound of an infant crying.
Before entering meditation yesterday, Mu Yao had set up an array formation in the courtyard so that any movement from little Wenjiu would reach her in time.
Thus, at this moment, little Wenjiu’s crisp crying accurately transmitted straight into Mu Yao’s mind.
At that instant, Mu Yao seemed to experience what it meant to have her head buzzing; she truly had a bit of a headache.
Massaging her temples, she realized her master had indeed left her with a headache-inducing little fellow.
Exhaling lightly, Mu Yao stood up and walked back to the front courtyard. If not for the child’s crying, she would have completely forgotten that her master brought back a junior sister yesterday.
Mainly because she really did not wish to remember it.
Returning to the front courtyard, Mu Yao heard the child’s cries even more clearly. With no other choice, she walked over and picked her up.
After quite a bit of soothing, the little one finally stopped crying.
Mu Yao broke out in a near-sweat of nervousness.
Once the little one quieted down, she placed her back down, using the bell to amuse her while sending a voice transmission to Yue Yue to ask her to come over.
After filling her belly, the little one was finally content and even began playing with the bell all by herself.
Mu Yao finally managed to spare some free time, practicing her sword techniques in the courtyard. As she practiced, she heard the sound of a merry giggle from behind her, which sounded exceptionally cheerful.
Putting away her sword and turning around, Mu Yao released her spiritual sense. The moment she did, she got quite a shock: the little one had almost crawled out by herself, lying right on the edge and looking at her with a carefree, beaming smile.
