The First Senior Sister Is Weak and Helpless - Chapter 13
The fire spirit squeaked at her twice, and Ah Jiu pinched it. “It is not like I am asking you to breathe fire the whole time. Why are you so worked up? I will bring you along next time Senior Sister Nan You is refining alchemy so you can skim some fire spiritual energy.”
Hearing her say this, the fire spirit nodded and contentedly rubbed against her.
This completely shattered Feng Yang’s understanding. No cultivator who had not reached the Soul-Condensing Realm had ever been able to converse directly with these spirit sprites.
Mu Yao did not seem all that surprised upon hearing this, having previously witnessed these spirit sprites playing around with Ah Jiu.
Feng Yang watched Ah Jiu let the spirit sprite go, then tilted her head up to look at her. “Does Master want to eat?”
Her gaze falling back onto the roasted pigeon in Ah Jiu’s hand, Feng Yang massaged the bridge of her nose and felt a headache coming on once again. She wondered if her junior sister would come over and beat her twice once she found out.
“Master does not want any; you eat.” Feng Yang sighed softly. Since it was already roasted, it could not come back to life, and it certainly could not be wasted.
Ah Jiu smiled obediently, then tore off a piece of leg meat and handed it to Mu Yao. “Senior Sister, for you.”
Hearing her voice, Mu Yao’s expression shifted slightly. She turned her head toward Ah Jiu. “Ah Jiu, you eat.”
She had no great desire for such food, nor did she feel that Bigu pills were particularly unpalatable.
Yet Ah Jiu still held out that pigeon leg. “Senior Sister, eat.”
“It is really delicious, Ah Jiu is not lying.” Ah Jiu assumed Mu Yao thought it did not taste good and therefore did not want to eat.
Hearing her youngest disciple coaxing her senior sister into eating the pigeon meat she had roasted herself, Feng Yang chuckled softly. This little one still only remembered her senior sister.
After all, when she as the master said she did not want any, Ah Jiu simply ignored her completely.
While Mu Yao said she did not want any, Ah Jiu kept pleading with her to eat.
In the end, amidst Ah Jiu’s repeated assurances of how delicious it was, Mu Yao accepted the greasy roasted pigeon and took a few bites, discovering that it actually tasted quite good and was much better than Bigu pills. No wonder the little one had zero interest in tasteless Bigu pills.
While the two of them were eating, Feng Yang raised her eyes to look outside Xiaoyao Peak, then feigned composure as she poured herself a cup of tea.
Wuyou was coming over after all.
Just as Ah Jiu had taken a couple of bites, she saw a woman dressed in black martial attire with a matching black mask suddenly appear.
The little one did not yet recognize so many people. She merely looked at the woman before her, gazing with curious scrutiny, and then, sensing the woman’s somewhat fierce gaze, she shrank back toward Mu Yao.
“Senior Sister, who is this? She looks so pretty.” Little Ah Jiu asked in a soft whisper right beside Mu Yao’s ear. The little one’s breath was scorching hot, making Mu Yao feel a slight itch in her ear. Mu Yao gently pulled her back a bit, then turned to face Wuyou and paid her respects.
“This disciple greets Senior Uncle Wuyou.”
Wuyou let out a cold hum and sat down. “The pigeons raised by this senior uncle, how do they taste?”
“Delicious.” Little Ah Jiu first followed Mu Yao in paying respects, then upon hearing Wuyou’s inquiry, could not help softly answering.
“Is Junior Sister not in seclusion? How do you have the leisure to come out for a stroll?” Feng Yang asked awkwardly, attempting to change the subject.
Wuyou raised her eyes and glanced at her. “Senior Sister went so far as to feed the pigeons I painstakingly raised to your two disciples to roast and eat, and as a junior sister, I cannot even come take a look?”
“That is truly a wrongful accusation. Ah Jiu roasted this pigeon all by herself.” Feng Yang said helplessly.
“Ah Jiu? This little disciple of yours?” Wuyou obviously found it hard to believe.
At this moment, Ah Jiu had only eaten a small fraction, her eyes staring curiously at Wuyou.
Wuyou swept a glance over her. The little one indeed looked quite exquisite.
“This tiny sprout is only a few years old and can barely walk steadily. Senior Sister claiming she roasted it herself sounds a bit like trying to trick your junior sister.” Wuyou rolled her eyes at Feng Yang, clearly conveying that if she was going to make up a lie, she could at least make it believable.
Feng Yang laughed helplessly, then looked at Ah Jiu. “Ah Jiu, show your senior uncle a performance of breathing fire.”
Ah Jiu blinked. “You mean make the fire spirit spit fire?”
“Yes.” Feng Yang nodded.
“Then, then I have to call the other one over. They are always so reluctant to spit fire, such lazy creatures.” Ah Jiu wiped her mouth with her sleeve after speaking. Seeing the greasy mess instantly smeared across Ah Jiu’s clean clothes, Feng Yang developed a minor headache.
A cleansing incantation landed on her, and the little one’s clothes instantly became pristine once more.
“I heard Jin Zui came over to your place a few days ago to present a massive bill.” Wuyou had not come over just to throw a tantrum, but rather to watch Feng Yang make a fool of herself.
Originally, when feeding the pigeons today, she noticed several were missing and was genuinely about to lose her temper. However, upon investigating, she discovered it was the handiwork of someone from Xiaoyao Peak. Wuyou incidentally learned that her senior sister had picked up another little one a few years ago, and this little one was exceedingly mischievous. Wuyou had heard from disciples of the Enforcement Hall that Jin Zui had only just come to collect debts a few days prior.
Since her senior sister was having such a day, Wuyou was quite happy to watch the spectacle.
“Why is Yaoyao looking so weak?” Wuyou cast her gaze toward the quiet Mu Yao sitting beside them. This niece of hers had been quiet since childhood, even quieter than herself, to which Wuyou was already accustomed, but the weak aura on Mu Yao still inevitably worried her.
Feng Yang briefly summarized Mu Yao’s condition. “She just needs to recuperate properly these days. It would be best if she avoids mobilizing her spiritual power for the next year. Temporarily experiencing life as an ordinary mortal is not bad either.”
Wuyou looked at Mu Yao and smiled at her. “Are you getting used to being like this?”
Mu Yao gently nodded. “There is nothing wrong with it.”
“Master, I am here.” Amidst their conversation, the little one came over clutching a fire spirit.
Two wind spirits followed right behind her, obviously having been sent by the wind spirits to ferry her over. Otherwise, how could she have traveled so fast.
“Did you order the wind spirits to ferry you over again?” Feng Yang still asked the question.
Ah Jiu tilted her head slightly, a look of incomprehension in her eyes. “Is that not allowed?”
“It is not strictly forbidden.” Feng Yang did not quite know how to answer her. The little one took this convenience as a matter of course, completely unaware of how much jealousy such behavior would provoke in others.
After all, those born with a natural spiritual affinity in this world were exceedingly rare, and whether the current cultivation world could produce a second Feng Yang remained unknown.
Seeing this, Wuyou found it exceptionally wondrous as well. “Can someone so young truly command these spirit sprites?”
Even if Ah Jiu had been accompanied by these spirit sprites since she was a toddler, playing together was one thing, but commanding them was entirely another.
“She can even converse with these fellows.” Feng Yang said with a light smile.
“Fascinating, truly fascinating.” Wuyou could not help inspecting Ah Jiu closely.
Ah Jiu met her gaze, revealing her pearly white teeth. “Does Senior Uncle want to keep looking?”
“Yes.” Naturally, Wuyou wanted to see just how wondrous the little one before her truly was.
Ah Jiu patted the fire spirit on the head, and the fire spirit quite cooperatively breathed out a puff of flame.
Seeing this scene, Wuyou instantly wore an expression of astonishment. “She truly can?”
“So Junior Sister believes me now? I really did not roast that pigeon.” Feng Yang explained helplessly once again.
“What do pigeons matter? Senior Sister, how about letting Ah Jiu enter my sect? You already have three disciples anyway.” Wuyou practiced an entirely different Daoist path from Feng Yang. It was not the sword path, but the talisman path. The path of talismans was extremely difficult to achieve great mastery in.
Furthermore, prying into the Heavenly Dao made it easy to become unaccepted by the heavens themselves.
Yet Wuyou’s talisman path, while not daringly claimed as fully mastered, was at least showing small accomplishments.
Ah Jiu was intelligent and understood the universe since childhood, making her an exceptionally good seedling.
“That is not up to me. You will have to ask her yourself.” Feng Yang did not mind whose sect Ah Jiu cultivated under. As long as she remained within the Tianqing Sect and was a disciple of the Tianqing Sect, she considered her one of her own.
“Ah Jiu, would you be willing to let Senior Uncle be your master and follow me to Wuyou Valley to cultivate?” Wuyou squatted down, patted Ah Jiu’s head, and asked with a smile.
Ah Jiu could sense that the person before her seemed much friendlier now, but she still took a step back, feeling a bit strange.
She walked over and tugged at the corner of Mu Yao’s clothes. “Can I no longer live here?”
“You can, of course, but most of the time you would still need to cultivate in Wuyou Valley.” Wuyou answered her truthfully.
“Then does that mean I cannot see Senior Sister often anymore?” Ah Jiu asked again.
Hearing her question, Mu Yao felt a slight ripple in her heart. Did the little one care about her to this extent?
“You can still see her, just not every single day.”
“Then I do not want to go.” Ah Jiu shook her head repeatedly.
She gripped Mu Yao’s hand with a sense of reliance and nervousness. Mu Yao could feel the little one gripping her hand much tighter than usual.
She gently patted Ah Jiu’s back. “It is alright. Senior Uncle Wuyou will treat Ah Jiu well too.”
“No.” Ah Jiu hid behind Mu Yao, looking at Wuyou with vigilance.
Feng Yang chuckled lightly. “Junior Sister, do not make things difficult for Ah Jiu. She is only four years old and has been accompanied by Yaoyao since she was little. In her heart, even her master cannot compare to Yaoyao, let alone you two meeting for the very first time.”
“I know you hope someone will inherit your talisman path, but waiting until Ah Jiu grows up a bit more will not be too late, right?” Feng Yang had to soothe her youngest disciple while speaking pleasant words to her own junior sister.
Who would have thought Wuyou would shake her head. “The path of talismans naturally benefits from starting as young as possible.”
Reluctant to give up, Wuyou looked at Ah Jiu again. “Then would Ah Jiu be willing to follow Senior Uncle in cultivation? You do not need to go to Wuyou Valley, nor do you need to call me master. How about Senior Uncle comes over to teach you every single day?”
Ah Jiu looked blankly at Mu Yao. Mu Yao seemed to instinctively sense her gaze and patted her back reassuringly. “Senior Uncle Wuyou is very formidable. Ah Jiu can consider it.”
“Is she really that formidable? Is she more formidable than Master?” Ah Jiu looked at the mask on Wuyou’s face with her pair of eyes, then shrank back and hid behind Mu Yao once more.
“That is definitely more formidable than your master.” Wuyou laughed.
“Nonsense, how could you ever beat me?” Feng Yang retorted with dissatisfaction.
“I might not beat you in a fight, but when it comes to other things, that is hard to say. Divination, surveying, saving people, can you compare to me?”
“Then I will learn.” Ah Jiu thought for a moment and answered Wuyou very earnestly.
“Sang Zhi is already following you in cultivation in Wuyou Valley. Why are you trying to poach Ah Jiu as well? Can you not go find a disciple on your own?” Feng Yang said to Wuyou with mild exasperation.
“Sang Zhi is in seclusion and should be breaking through to the mid-stage of the Meridian Condensing Realm soon. Helping you teach your disciple without thanking me, why are you starting to blame me instead?” Wuyou retorted unbothered.
Knowing that Wuyou disliked leaving the sect, Feng Yang ultimately could not be bothered to argue further with her.
Wuyou squatted down and reached out to pinch her little cheek. “So obedient. From now on, you can eat as many of Senior Uncle’s pigeons as you like.”
Hearing those words, Ah Jiu grew even happier.
“Yay, thank you Senior Uncle!” She gave a clumsy, unorthodox bow that looked somewhat like the real thing, yet appeared rather comical.
Afterward, Ah Jiu walked around in front of Mu Yao, and seeing the remaining roasted pigeon placed on the table before them, she asked Feng Yang carefully, “Master, can I still eat?”
“Eat up. Since your senior uncle has not said anything, what reason does your master have to forbid it?”
Ah Jiu instantly brightened up again, the little one standing on tiptoes and struggling slightly to reach the roasted pigeon on the table.
Hearing the sound of her trying so hard yet failing to reach, Mu Yao reached out, slipped her arms under Ah Jiu’s armpits, and lifted her onto her lap.
Ah Jiu grabbed the roasted pigeon, tore off a piece, and instead of eating it herself first, she fed it directly to Mu Yao.
Mu Yao heard her say, “Senior Sister, open wide.”
For some reason, she simply opened her mouth and complied with her words.
