The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 46
“The Grimy Cat Observation Diary” gradually began its premiere.
The first thing to appear on camera was a cardboard box lined with a thin blanket, containing two calico cats, just one month old, huddled inside.
Their fur colors were slightly different, and the blue film over their eyes hadn’t faded yet. They were exploring the outside world in a daze, their mother nowhere to be found.
The camera shifted, panning to the community’s green belt and walking paths. People continuously came by, children brought freshly mixed goat milk powder, elderly people cooked chicken breast, and office workers coming home from their jobs washed the seasoning off the ham sausages inside fried dough sticks to feed them.
The two little calico cats in the Happy Community slowly grew up on food provided by a hundred different households.
One of them was put into a carrier and sent to the home of veteran actor Yin Dengzhu, while the other continued to live in the community.
Seeing this, and remembering that online variety shows allow for real-time bullet comments, Tu Jiaojiao moved her mouse and opened the comments.
“Both calico cats are so cute! The people in this community are really kind. Stray cats and dogs aren’t allowed in our complex.”
“I didn’t expect the elderly Mr. Yin Dengzhu to have such a leisurely pursuit. Can he even raise such a tiny kitten? I’m so worried.”
“Does everyone remember that the two calico cats were originally placed in the cardboard box alone? Could the production team have put them there? That kind of staging is too disgusting.”
“To be honest, I think someone in the community abandoned them. Some people who raise cats are completely irresponsible; they don’t spay or neuter them, don’t feed them proper cat food, and even let them bury their waste in the construction sand! I’m speechless!”
“Why can’t I pick up a kitten? I have a tuxedo cat, an orange cat, and a white cat at home now, but they were all adults when I found them. So envious…”
Da Bai (Big White) saw the words floating by and reached out its paw to try and catch them twice. It looked blankly when it realized it was touching nothing.
Tu Jiaojiao laughed and held its paw, “Be good. Those words are on the screen, you can’t catch them.”
She then pointed at the screen, at Huahua, the cat eating a Churu treat from Yin Dengzhu’s hand, and asked Xiao Bai (Little White), “Xiao Bai, do you remember Huahua, the one you played with a while ago? This is him when he was little.”
“Meow,” Xiao Bai gave a respectful response, its eyes wide and round, looking very interested in the screen.
After the introduction of the calico cats’ origins was complete, the scene cut to two orange cats.
The background sound was the clear sound of reading aloud, and the image gradually zoomed in from a distance to an orange cat circling a girl’s calves.
The audience realized this was the location where students at Longming University usually held morning readings.
“Didn’t I just feed you ham sausage? Big Orange is hungry again after two minutes without food?” The girl squatting to pet the cat couldn’t be seen clearly, but her voice was very gentle, with a hint of helplessness.
The orange cat, however, looked confused, as if it didn’t remember eating the ham sausage.
“Sigh, I don’t eat snacks, and all my allowance is spent on buying things for you.” She stroked the cat again, “Wait, after I finish memorizing these two exam points, I’ll go buy you some goat milk to drink.”
The camera shifted again, and people discovered that there was an identical orange cat behind the tree, and the one happily gnawing on the ham sausage was that one!
This proved the saying that all orange cats are one big family.
A bullet comment expressed this feeling: “Hahahahaha, it’s no wonder the girl couldn’t tell the difference. All orange cats really look exactly the same. I just thought I saw my little orange pig when he was a kitten.”
“The girl is so kind. Stray cats are great at reading people. They know you like cats, so they’ll act cute for you. It’s all because of the necessity of survival!”
“Hey, I’m from Longming University. I’ve seen this orange cat! I can’t believe they’re twins!”
The broadcast continued, and one orange cat was taken to Ruan Hong’s home, where it had endless snacks and cat food to eat every day.
Its brother remained at the school.
Sometimes, it would pester the girl for food other times, it would stake out the entrance of a store, and as soon as it saw someone about to buy something, it would trot over and act cute.
Ling Hanyan was also moved, saying, “Many young people love cats these days. They are very smart to know to live in schools or residential areas.”
Tu Jiaojiao nodded, her heart aching, “Only friendly stray cats will stay in schools and communities. The unfriendly ones are running around somewhere, and no one knows what they eat every day without human feeding.”
“Cats can hunt, don’t worry,” Ling Hanyan raised her hand and gently stroked Tu Jiaojiao’s back, comforting her.
However, this statement was very hollow; if a stray cat successfully hunts, it means another wild animal loses its life.
The entire environment still requires human control.
She pointed to the screen, changing the subject, “Look quickly, it’s our cats now.”
Hearing the familiar square dancing music, Xiao Bai and Da Bai perked up their ears, their tails gently swaying, both looking forward to the scene.
There were many more cats in the park than in the previous two locations. Several elderly women brought two buckets of raw fish to the park to feed the cats, attracting countless furry friends along the way.
Tu Jiaojiao took some effort to spot her two cats.
They were quite recognizable when they were strays, others were adult cats, large in size, while they were two half-grown boys, with flat stomachs and thin tails, looking very pitiful.
The environment in the park was more wilderness like and natural, and the cats also followed the rule of the fittest.
While the big cats were feasting, the two half-grown white cats could only lick their paws and watch.
If they were truly tempted and tried to sneak a bite, they would be fiercely hissed at by the big cats before they could even get to the meat.
Watching her own kittens only being able to eat the big cats’ leftovers and scraps made Tu Jiaojiao’s heart ache.
She hugged both cats in her arms, petting them repeatedly, wanting them to know how much she loved them.
Tu Jiaojiao listened intently for the thoughts of the two cats, only to find that they didn’t have many feelings about seeing this scene.
Not only did they not feel pitiful, but they were actually craving the raw fish.
This was the first time Ling Hanyan had seen this footage; she had only heard Director Ning Yu describe it before.
She didn’t expect to feel this way when seeing it with her own eyes. Her heart felt a little sour, wishing she had brought the two white cats home sooner.
She also wished she could give all the stray cats in the park a home where they could shelter from the wind and rain.
The bullet comments also said: “I never realized how beautiful the stray cats in the park are. Some even look like British or American Shorthairs. I hope everyone will treat their pets well and not abandon them!”
“Wuwuwu, just seeing their living environment makes my heart ache. I have a big place, and I hope a fated cat can ‘bump into’ me. I will definitely treat you well!”
“Now is the time to shout that slogan: Adopt, don’t shop!”
“I used to think Ling Hanyan was cold and indifferent, never taking interest in anything, but now seeing her bring Xiao Bai home and diligently study how to raise a cat, I’ve changed my mind. People who love small animals are good people!”
The first episode of the show was very short, concluding after introducing the past lives of the six cats, but it was enough to pique interest.
People wanted to know what would happen next, how the adopted cats were doing, and how the stray cats who lost their siblings were faring.
“I didn’t expect it to air so quickly, now I have to wait another week!” Tu Jiaojiao lamented.
Seeing her serious look while binge-watching the show, Ling Hanyan felt like laughing: “The protagonists are right here in your arms, and you still want to watch the next episode?”
Tu Jiaojiao’s cheeks flushed, and she said embarrassed, “That’s true. Our Da Bai and Xiao Bai are indoor cats now, clean cats, not grimy cats.”
Ling Hanyan had gone to the company to discuss business. Tu Jiaojiao, idle that day, ventured into Ling Hanyan’s long unused kitchen and started baking rabbit ear cookies.
She made two recipes: one for humans, and the other as a snack for Marshmallow (Da Bai).
Cats are carnivores and can eat small cookies, but only a little bit.
While she was busy, she received a call.
“Little CEO Tu, I found one of the movie scripts you mentioned before. Do you want to buy the copyright?”
Tu Jiaojiao’s eyes lit up, and she said happily, “That’s great! Which one?”
The content of the biography “Ling Han Du Zi Kai” (Ling Han Blossoms Alone), which she had traveled through with, had already deviated from the current timeline.
Tu Jiaojiao was afraid that Ling Hanyan would feel uneasy if she discovered the book, so she had put it away at the bottom of a chest a long time ago.
But she had kept a secret: she wrote down all the movie scripts the book mentioned Ling Hanyan had starred in and gave them to Bai Wanyue, asking her to look for clues.
In the original timeline, these movies made Ling Hanyan successful. Tu Jiaojiao believed they would achieve the same results now.
Bai Wanyue replied, ” ‘Cotton City Story,’ that cop film.”
Tu Jiaojiao’s mind went blank. She had seen that movie! It was a rare cop film with two female leads!
Ling Hanyan played the police officer Rong Mian, a quiet but meticulous, beautiful woman who was tough and a woman of few words!
But that was a movie Ling Hanyan filmed after she turned thirty. She didn’t expect there to be news of it now.
The thought of Ling Hanyan in a police uniform excited Tu Jiaojiao so much that she could barely keep her legs together.
She immediately decided, “Buy it, buy it, buy it! After buying it, contact the directing team, and let’s start filming as soon as possible!”
“Oh, and please hurry up and find the other scripts too. You can check Jinjiang Literature City to see if there are any novels with different names but identical content to what I told you.”
After hearing Little CEO Tu’s instructions, Bai Wanyue rubbed her forehead speechlessly.
Other people cast a wide net, looking for good novels and scripts on major websites.
But with Tu Jiaojiao, it was the opposite. She gave her the content and a title, asking her to find the content based on the comparison.
She even suspected that Little CEO Tu started the company for fun, and that those scripts didn’t exist at all; they were just her own made up ideas because she wanted to see them.
Finding “Cotton City Story” was purely luck. Things like “Rose Butterfly” were completely unlikely to exist in the world.
She pushed up her glasses and asked, “While looking for ‘Cotton City Story,’ I found a few very good scripts. Should I try to acquire those too?”
Tu Jiaojiao thought for a moment. Since her money was sitting idle in the bank, she might as well use it to support literary and artistic activities.
If she could provide the world with a few good movies, it would be a worthwhile trip for her.
She agreed, “Then negotiate for them. Ensure the funding is in place, and the movies must be made well.”
Meanwhile, Ling Hanyan was called back to the company by Sister Mao, and several scripts were laid out before her.
” ‘The Legend of the Crane Spirit Empress’ is about to air. It’s time to start working again. Choose from these scripts and see if there’s anything you like.”
Six supporting actress scripts and three female lead scripts, all of which Sister Mao had already screened once.
It took Ling Hanyan a whole day to read through them.
“This one is good,” she pulled out a script and placed it in front of Sister Mao.
Sister Mao glanced at it and twitched her mouth: “Are you sure? This is a BL film, a double male lead. You can only play a supporting female role.”
Ling Hanyan’s eyes lowered, her long, curled eyelashes seeming to flutter in the wind: “I’m sure.”
Her heart was only focused on Jiaojiao now, and she didn’t really want to take on kissing scenes or intimate scenes.
This role had few scenes, and she could finish filming quickly and go home to hug her rabbit.
Moreover, this movie had no female lead, and the first female supporting role was the best female character in it. If she could play it well, it would be very memorable.
Sister Mao nodded slightly: “Then let’s go with this one, since you’ve decided. This director is very good, and the makeup artists and costume designers have consistently good aesthetics.”
Female roles in BL films were always a hot potato. The male actor under her was cast as the male lead, but the supporting roles were still undecided.
Ling Hanyan’s willingness to take the role was a huge relief for her.
Since the decision was made, there was no more delay. Sister Mao arranged everything, and they signed the contract that very day.
In the evening, Ling Hanyan was in the car on her way home, eager to tell Jiaojiao about her work arrangement.
Tu Jiaojiao was waiting at home, also looking forward to telling Ling Hanyan that a very impressive movie would soon be looking for her to be the female lead.
