The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 38
Everyone knew that Broke Today had a revolving cast of guest stars, but the “Broke Combo” was a permanent fixture.
Mei Feifei and Lu Gan, who were walking towards everyone now, chatting and laughing while carrying large bags of local delicacies, were the permanent guests of the show.
During the first season of the show, the production team hadn’t decided whether to have fixed guests. Back then, they invited five popular celebrities with a “cast a wide net, take it one step at a time” attitude.
Seven years ago, Mei Feifei was a runway model, and Lu Gan was a handsome idol drama star.
The two, who originally had no connection, struck a dramatic spark on the show.
They were like the twin flames mentioned in metaphysics, they hit it off immediately upon meeting. Whatever one said, the other could instantly chime in.
And even though their relationship quickly became very good, addressing each other as “sister” and “brother,” the atmosphere was never ambiguous, with only the scent of pure friendship flowing in the air.
After the first season concluded, the broadcast reaction was decent, but not outstanding among similar shows, achieving a middle of the road result.
The production team tentatively sent invitation letters for the second season to the five celebrities from the first season. However, the other three had packed schedules and couldn’t make it, leaving only Mei and Lu.
Unexpectedly, the second season’s broadcast performance was much better than the first. The show became a minor hit, and fans secretly began shipping the Broke Combo.
The director team put their heads together and figured, their couple name conveniently ties into the show’s title, so why not make them permanent guests?
After years of fine tuning and working together, this is how I Didn’t Bring Money Out Today, now in its seventh season, became a success that brought them both fame and fortune.
As for whether the three people who participated in the first season and then gave up regretted it, Mei Feifei and Lu Gan couldn’t care less.
Both of them have laid back personalities. They weren’t achieving top-tier success in their respective fiercely competitive industries, so transitioning into variety show personalities with relatively free and easy work was a good thing.
Mei Feifei greeted everyone enthusiastically and openly, while also calling out the production team: “I’m so sorry, my little brother and I are late. We just went to get some food for everyone! Since it’s our first time meeting today, we were allowed to bring money out, haha.”
Lu Gan also laughed: “Haha, Sister Mei is a local from Hainan, I’m just the errand boy carrying things.”
Ling Hanyan and the other two guests gladly accepted their offer. Everyone sat down together to sample various unique Hainan style delicacies.
Seeing that Yanyan was about to eat, Tu Jiaojiao felt it wasn’t good to keep lounging in her arms. She cooed twice, signaling for Hanyan to put her down on the ground.
Ling Hanyan had already put a leash on her, so she wasn’t worried that someone would snatch Jiaojiao away.
She tied one end of the leash around her wrist, letting the other end go so Jiaojiao could move freely.
The first thing Tu Jiaojiao did upon touching the ground was shake her fur, smoothing out the long hair that Yanyan had messed up. Then, she ran to the pet carrier, looking expectantly, to say hello to the calico cat.
After all, they were the only two furry children present.
“Gu gu gu gu.” Hello, little kitty.
Tu Jiaojiao peeked around, using her tripartite mouth to lift the cloth covering the carrier. She hadn’t seen clearly just now, but now she realized this calico cat was incredibly beautiful.
Its body was a bit smaller than her own Little White, but Little White was currently in a growth spurt and looked long and lanky.
This one, however, was at most two months old, a bona fide kitten.
The kitten had a two head to body proportion, a chubby frame, beautiful black and yellow split bangs on its face, and pretty shaped patches on its back.
What Tu Jiaojiao loved most were its eyes, which were green, like they held the finest imperial green jadeite.
Hearing the words of a different species for the first time, the little kitten was startled. It scooted back, pressing its body tightly against the pet carrier.
I’m not planning to do anything weird, you’re making it hard for me to save face!
Tu Jiaojiao’s eye caught the camera operator quietly aiming the lens at this corner, but the little kitten wasn’t cooperating, which made her feel a little embarrassed.
“Gu gu, gu gu gu.” Don’t be afraid, I’m the one talking. My name is Little Crescent Moon. Did your owner name you yet?
Unwilling to believe she couldn’t even win over a tiny kitten, Tu Jiaojiao backed up a bit, allowing the kitten to see her full figure through the carrier’s holes. She greeted it in a friendly manner while listening to its inner thoughts.
However, the kitten’s paw was still tightly gripping the blanket Yin Dengzhu had laid out for it. It didn’t open its mouth, but Tu Jiaojiao caught its inner voice.
“Help! A weird animal is talking to me! Its ears are so long, and it doesn’t have a tail! Don’t come any closer!!!”
Tu Jiaojiao was speechless, secretly labeling the little calico a “beautiful idiot” in her mind.
And I do have a tail! It just looks short because it’s tucked in right now, but it’s really there!
She sighed. Since the kitten had no intention of making friends, she wouldn’t pursue a cold shoulder.
Later, when Yanyan brought Little White out, she could have Little White teach it some common sense.
While sampling the coconut chicken, Yin Dengzhu kept a subtle eye on Ling Hanyan’s big white rabbit.
He knew rabbits were gentle and likely wouldn’t bully his Huahua through the carrier. But his little cat was genuinely timid, extremely clingy, and didn’t like being alone. He was afraid the rabbit would frighten Huahua.
Phew, good thing. That rabbit lost interest in Huahua and went to explore somewhere else.
The guests met in the courtyard of a guesthouse. The ground was paved with stone tiles, and the surrounding flower beds were planted with patches of purple red Ti plants, which, clustered together, looked quite similar to birds of paradise.
Scattered among them were a few coconut trees, with semi-ripe green coconuts hanging from the top. Tu Jiaojiao looked up and quietly moved away from beneath the trees.
When the wind blew, not only did the large coconut leaves sway, but she felt a coconut might actually fall.
That would count as a falling object from a height! Time to beat a hasty retreat!
Ling Hanyan had given the leash enough length that Tu Jiaojiao could even leave the courtyard if she wanted to.
But she had no such intention. Yanyan trusted her not to run around, which is why she let her off the hook.
But in other people’s eyes, it would look like Ling Hanyan was irresponsible, not caring when her pet left her sight.
She absolutely couldn’t let Yanyan’s reputation be tarnished!
Tu Jiaojiao hopped around the courtyard, quickly completing her inspection.
Finding it uninteresting, she returned to Ling Hanyan’s feet. Still, she didn’t want to interfere with Yanyan’s socializing, so she leaned against her ankle and began to doze.
After an unknown period, Tu Jiaojiao was awakened by a sweet, milky scent. A piece of soft, white coconut flesh appeared before her eyes.
“Does Little Crescent Moon want to eat this?” Ling Hanyan asked her.
Because Tu Jiaojiao was a little rabbit spirit, her diet was the same as a human’s, not restricted to the rabbit’s menu. She could eat things that rabbits normally could or couldn’t.
Ling Hanyan always shared a bit of her food with her during meals.
But with so many eyes watching now, it was hard to maneuver. In the end, she had to scoop a little coconut flesh out of the coconut shell after drinking the juice for Jiaojiao to eat.
Regular rabbits could also eat this, so it wasn’t a problem.
She had overheard the interaction between Jiaojiao and the little kitten just now. Seeing that Jiaojiao left to play after only a few words with the kitten, Ling Hanyan guessed the cat probably wouldn’t get along with her.
In that case, she should comfort her with something tasty.
“Gu gu!” Thank you, Yanyan!
Tu Jiaojiao finished two pieces of coconut flesh from Ling Hanyan’s hand. Fresh coconut flesh was delicious, milky and faintly sweet.
After eating, she licked the coconut juice stuck to Ling Hanyan’s hand with her little tongue, leaving the latter’s palm feeling ticklish, and her heart feeling a little fluttery.
After the initial meeting concluded, Mei Feifei briefly introduced the variety show. Everyone present had already looked it up, so this was mainly for the new audience members who hadn’t watched the previous seasons.
Tu Jiaojiao, for instance, hadn’t watched it. She lay at Ling Hanyan’s feet, listening in with her head tilted up.
She learned that in addition to meeting basic survival goals, they also had to complete one task each day from the categories of “Eat,” “Drink,” “Play,” or “Have Fun.”
She felt a little worried. Didn’t they say they couldn’t bring money out? If they didn’t bring money, how could they go out and splurge?
Tomorrow’s task was “Eat Well.”
The score would be assessed based on the variety and market price of the food the guests ate that day. The one with the highest score could choose their accommodation first.
There were five options: a seaside suite, a resort cabin, a single apartment, a beach tent, or figuring it out themselves.
Tu Jiaojiao figured as long as Yanyan wasn’t tragically forced to figure out her own accommodation, she wouldn’t worry.
The formal variety show activities would only start tomorrow, so the guests could rest well at the guesthouse today.
Upon returning to her room, Ling Hanyan pretended to be exhausted from the day long flight and decided to sleep, covering the camera and turning off the sound in advance.
Watching Yanyan complete a series of preparations, Tu Jiaojiao transformed into her human form with anticipation.
She hugged Ling Hanyan’s waist from behind, rested her head on Hanyan’s back, closed her eyes, and enjoyed the relaxed feeling of being enveloped by the scent of rose wine.
Ling Hanyan held Tu Jiaojiao’s delicate hands in that position, squeezing her fingertips into Jiaojiao’s palm. Only after their fingers were intertwined did she ask: “Are you hungry? Today isn’t the official start, so we can still order takeout.”
Having anticipated the loss of privacy during the variety show filming, Ling Hanyan had bought a pile of rabbit food and treats for Tu Jiaojiao.
She couldn’t let Tu Jiaojiao eat human food under the eye of the camera, and due to the nature of the show, human food would also be confiscated.
But rabbit food could only fill her stomach and wasn’t considered a delicacy by Tu Jiaojiao, so this time was a bit of a hardship for her.
“A little hungry. I want Hunan cuisine.”
As Ling Hanyan started ordering takeout, Tu Jiaojiao went over to pet Little White, who was fed, full, and sleeping on a soft cushion.
Due to the respect for confidentiality between sister variety shows, there was no need to install cameras in Ling Hanyan’s room now.
However, during filming outside, staff from Dirty Cat would follow, but they could only point their cameras at the cat and its owner.
Furthermore, before the edited film was officially broadcast, the samples needed to be reviewed by each other’s staff.
A while later, the takeout arrived. Ling Hanyan quietly slipped out of the room to retrieve it, only to run into Dou Tian at the main entrance.
The young woman smiled sheepishly at being caught: “Sister Yan, I…..I wasn’t full just now. Hainan food is too sweet for me.”
“It’s fine, I’m here to get takeout too.” Ling Hanyan walked past her and took the bag from the delivery person’s hand.
As Dou Tian indulged in her room, a strange thought arose in her mind.
Sister Yan seems to like the sweet flavors here in Hainan. She ate quite a bit at the table. Is she still not full after all that?
The appetite of a female celebrity is terrifying!
The next day was bright and clear. The weather was even a little too good; it started to warm up not long after waking up.
The production team, in their words, said that today’s score would be earned by “eating,” so they wouldn’t waste everyone’s stomach space with a non-scoring breakfast.
Without even providing breakfast, they announced that the show’s recording had officially begun, ruthlessly confiscating the guests’ luggage and handing each person a mobile phone with limited functionality.
Ling Hanyan and Yin Dengzhu, because they were also filming the Dirty Cat show, were specially allowed to keep food for their small animals.
What awaited everyone next was figuring out how to make money and how to fill their stomachs.
Mei Feifei, following her usual habit, immediately began searching online for modeling and runway jobs that included meals and paid daily.
Although the production team restricted her to receiving wages as a common person, given her qualifications, she could enjoy the highest level of treatment for ordinary models upon arrival.
If she was willing, she could even teach the other models how to walk the runway first and get an extra teacher’s salary.
Looking at those young faces striving for their dreams always reminded her of the time she worked hard to practice her runway walk when she was younger. Even if the client didn’t pay extra, she couldn’t help but teach everyone some industry knowledge.
This was a major reason why she gained so many fans after joining the variety show.
However, sometimes she was lucky enough to find a job, and sometimes there were no modeling activities in the entire city, in which case she had to turn to Lu Gan.
Lu Gan took the street vendor route on this show. He would always set up a small business based on the local situation.
In the morning, he asked the three temporary guests if they needed help. After learning they each had their own plans, he went to the wholesale market to buy goods to sell.
The starting capital was money he borrowed from the production team. As a permanent guest, this was his only small privilege.
Knowing that she needed to earn money to participate in this show, Ling Hanyan had already prepared several plans. She had made contact the night before, and all she needed to do was go today.
After feeding the cat and the rabbit, she stepped out, holding two leashes.
In the guesthouse lobby, she ran into Yin Dengzhu and Dou Tian. Encouraged by Tu Jiaojiao, she walked over and asked: “What are you planning to do today?”
