The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 23
As expected of the beloved pet under the Immortal’s seat, this Red-crowned Crane actually understood what Tu Jiaojiao meant.
It was contemplating whether she was trustworthy.
Its eyes closely followed Tu Jiaojiao, pacing back and forth, trying to figure out if this girl was actually talking to them.
It even cautiously looked back, checking if there was anyone else, to prevent itself from misunderstanding her intention and doing something foolish.
The dignity of the “Big Sister” crane would not allow it to lose face in front of its younger siblings.
And misunderstanding human language, or answering a question out of self-importance, was naturally the most embarrassing thing a crane could do! It must not happen!
Tu Jiaojiao heard it say, “This girl looks quite pretty, but she doesn’t seem very smart. She actually wants to talk to a Red-crowned Crane she can’t understand us anyway.”
She had no choice but to put on a smile, persist in radiating her goodwill, and softly say, “Everyone will be happy once the cat is found, right? Please do a good deed and tell me what it looks like.”
The Big Head Crane was closer now and happened to understand her meaning.
It was impulsive and couldn’t help but let out a sharp cry.
Excitedly, it kept calling towards Tu Jiaojiao. What she heard was: “It’s white and fluffy, with black fur on the tip of its tail and the tips of its ears! Just as beautiful as us!”
The next second, however, the Elder Sister Crane bit and reprimanded the Big Head Crane: “What’s the use of telling her? Humans often talk to themselves and say meaningless things. Look, she’s holding a black box (phone) in her hand maybe she’s talking into the black box right now.”
Tu Jiaojiao smiled, put her phone in her pocket.
She looked earnestly at the Elder Sister Crane: “Don’t worry, I am talking to you, and it’s wonderful that you can understand! I want to know, if I find that cat, will you all cheer up and stop fighting?”
“Shit! You really speak Crane language!” The Elder Sister Crane was clearly not mentally prepared, startled, it jumped back, stumbling a few times.
However, its eyes scanned the surrounding cranes watching it, so it calmed down, pretended to be composed, and flapped its wings.
It beckoned the other cranes to come over, to collectively watch this strange yet beautiful girl.
Tu Jiaojiao didn’t mind being surrounded by Red-crowned Cranes. She pressed on with her question, “I heard you say just now that the cat ran away three or four days ago and might be long gone. If it really can’t be found, can you accept it if I bring other cats to play with you?”
The Elder Sister Crane shot a sharp glance around, called the strong Red-crowned Cranes following it to the reed marsh, and they discussed it animatedly for a while.
Finally, they decided that another cat would also work. They just wanted to pet something fluffy, to feel the softness and warmth of a feline’s body.
It wasn’t absolutely necessary for it to be that cat.
But the Elder Sister Crane specifically emphasized that the cat must be cute, able to charm them, and a pretty cat that wouldn’t unsheathe its claws at them.
Some stray cats had previously trespassed into their habitat, but they were vicious invaders, their eyes glowing green, coming to hunt.
Not only did they try to snatch the delicious food buried in the tidal flats from the Red-crowned Cranes, but they also tried to attack the 1.6-meter tall cranes, whose eyes were bigger than their bellies! Did they really think they could eat them?!
Fortunately, it wasn’t the breeding season then, or else newborn chicks would surely have been snatched!
It could be said that this was a psychological trauma for most of the Red-crowned Cranes.
Hearing the answer, Tu Jiaojiao breathed a sigh of relief; it was good that they weren’t strictly demanding that specific cat.
However, if she could find it, it would still be best to find it!
After all, a cat that can charm Red-crowned Cranes for survival is hard to find!
What if the cat she brought wasn’t cute enough, and these masters wouldn’t accept it?
Having agreed with the Red-crowned Cranes that she would meet them once she found the cat, Tu Jiaojiao headed to the parking lot without much hope.
She still wanted to see Ling Hanyan, not because she craved the lipstick, but because she craved the unreleased joint collaboration! A unique item!
Fortunately, Ling Hanyan’s chauffeured vehicle was still parked there safely.
She happily jogged over and tapped on the car window with a bright smile.
The car door quickly opened. Ling Hanyan was sitting inside, with the rabbit ear cookies she had brought today resting beside her a large portion of them was already gone.
Receiving the answer that Ling Hanyan really liked the cookies, joy slowly bloomed in Tu Jiaojiao’s heart.
However, as soon as she sat in the car, she noticed that the driver and Xiao Liang were also there.
With so many people crammed into the small space, it didn’t feel very private. She felt a little embarrassed and greeted everyone.
Assistant Liang Qing was already used to her boss’s extra affection for Tu Jiaojiao. At a look from Ling Hanyan, she took out three lipsticks whose casings were painted with different poses of little whales and twisted them open.
She approached Tu Jiaojiao with a cheerful smile and said, “This one is a gentle, watery dusty rose, this one is a vibrant, energetic strawberry red, and this one is a full impact, powerful plum red. Jiaojiao, which one do you like the most?”
“Strawberry red, I guess…” Tu Jiaojiao had lipsticks of all colors at home, but she liked the little whale on this casing the most; its tail was a cute heart shape!
The next second, Ling Hanyan frowned at Liang Qing and chided, “Don’t joke around.”
The latter laughed heartily and handed all three lipsticks to Tu Jiaojiao, “They’re all yours. Our boss says your skin is fair and delicate, and you can pull off any color.”
Tu Jiaojiao was overwhelmed with the unexpected generosity, her eyes glistening as she looked at Ling Hanyan, her heart feeling warm.
However, Ling Hanyan seemed very busy today, lowering her head to look at her script again. Although she received Tu Jiaojiao’s signal, she didn’t seem inclined to talk to her.
But Tu Jiaojiao was already very satisfied.
She helped Hanyan figure out the mystery of the Red-crowned Cranes’ internal conflict, what a useful xian nei zhu (wise helper/good wife) she was!
Next up, it was time to look for the cat!
So, she didn’t stay long. She carefully tucked the lipsticks into her bag, exchanged a few pleasantries with Liang Qing, and set off on her way home.
After Tu Jiaojiao left, Xiao Liang sighed, “Sister Yan, Jiaojiao is so pretty. She’s completely bare-faced today, yet the fine hair on her face is clearly visible in the sunlight. Young girls’ skin is really nice!”
Ling Hanyan hummed in agreement, her emotion distant.
Liang Qing was long used to Sister Yan’s aloofness and didn’t seek to bother her further. She reached out, intending to grab another cookie, but found nothing.
Ling Hanyan had, at some point, subtly put the entire box of rabbit ear cookies away.
Catching sight of Liang Qing’s movement, she mercilessly pierced her heart: “If you eat less carbs, your skin can also improve.”
The cookies were handmade by the little rabbit, and she should eat and cherish them herself.
How could she let Xiao Liang waste them on the mundane?
The young animal keeper noticed that the number of times those restless Red-crowned Cranes argued gradually decreased after that fair and soft girl, who looked like a high school student, visited.
He didn’t notice it on the first day, thinking they were tired and couldn’t be bothered to peck each other.
But on the second and third days, they were actually quiet, and they even resumed their usual excellent tradition of patrolling their territory in groups.
He immediately contacted the film crew, informing them of the good news.
However, he didn’t mention the girl, only saying that the Red-crowned Cranes’ temper had improved and they could continue to assist with the filming.
Ling Hanyan still came every day to care for the Red-crowned Cranes, noticing this change more keenly than the animal keeper.
She knew Tu Jiaojiao had stayed alone for a while, so she was suspicious.
However, when chatting online, she deliberately didn’t bring it up, and even when Tu Jiaojiao proactively asked about the cranes, she answered vaguely.
Tu Jiaojiao, upon returning home, immediately sent people to search for the cat around the Red-crowned Crane habitat, but received no good news for several days.
She felt a little disheartened and was even planning to sneak into a pet store to listen to the cats’ inner thoughts and bring back a docile kitten for the cranes.
However, on this day, after Tu Mixuan learned that her little aunt had visited the Red-crowned Cranes, she started to feel jealous again, constantly repeating: My little aunt doesn’t care about me, she never takes me anywhere!
Tu Jiaojiao couldn’t stand her complaining and decided to take Xuanxuan to the Red-crowned Crane habitat again.
This was a last minute decision, so she didn’t tell Ling Hanyan.
Xuanxuan rarely went out with her little aunt, and this time she could even see the Red-crowned Cranes with their ruby red crowns and black and white wings!
She was overjoyed, chanting excitedly all the way there.
She even wanted to save the strawberries her mother had packed for her to feed to the Red-crowned Cranes.
However, when Tu Jiaojiao realized her intention, she mercilessly confiscated the strawberries.
Even the food Ling Hanyan fed the cranes was carefully prepared by the animal keeper. Formal zoos prohibit feeding the animals.
This time, they went during the visitor hours. There were groups of people strolling and taking photos along the tidal flats, a stark contrast to the tranquility of the last visit after the park closed.
Originally, the Red-crowned Cranes were busy with their own affairs, some strolling leisurely, others stopping for a drink, or gliding with spread wings, each in a different pose.
But when Tu Jiaojiao and Xuanxuan appeared, things changed.
No matter what these Red-crowned Cranes were doing, they all turned their heads to look at them, as if tracking a target.
Xuanxuan didn’t know this wasn’t normal, and she happily waved her arms and danced, thinking she had particularly good animal affinity.
The Red-crowned Cranes raised their heads and chirped softly, communicating with each other.
Soon, several Red-crowned Cranes, a few inches taller and sturdier than the average crane, stepped out of the flock with a proud gait.
As they got closer, Tu Jiaojiao could hear their thoughts.
“It’s been so many days, human. Where is the fluffy one you promised?”
“We thought humans were creatures of their word, but they’re nothing special.”
“You only said you’d bring the cat once you found it, you didn’t set a time. Are you trying to run away? Don’t think you can get away with it just because you’re pretty.” This was the sinister Elder Sister Crane.
If looks could kill, Tu Jiaojiao would have been reincarnated three hundred times by now.
However, when the Big Head Crane walked closer, she couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
It said: “Is that little girl next to you, the one dressed in something fluffy, the cat we’ve been looking for, but transformed?”
Tu Jiaojiao saw these cranes gathering around, drawing curious onlookers.
But she was afraid of her special ability being discovered by Tu Mixuan, which might lead to suspicion.
So, she used the excuse of having Xuanxuan take her picture, making her back away, step by step, until she was over twenty meters away before daring to turn her head.
Her voice was fast and low as she spoke to the cranes: “Don’t worry, Elder Sister. I’ll come back again after the visitors leave. Your fluffy one is being looked for, being looked for!”
Ding-dong, a notification sound.
Tu Jiaojiao opened it to see that Tu Mixuan, afraid of startling the Red-crowned Cranes, had sent her a message.
