The Film Queen’s Little Bunny Wife - Chapter 21
Awakened by an unfamiliar faint scent at her nose, Tu Jiaojiao struggled to open her eyes.
It was nearly dusk. She was lying in a bedroom whose decor contained few personal belongings, leading her to guess it was a guest room.
Tu Jiaojiao was extremely frightened, but the deathly exhaustion from having all her spiritual power depleted was completely gone. If she met a villain, she felt she could put up a fight.
She quickly checked herself and breathed a sigh of relief upon finding her clothes intact.
‘Phew, that’s a relief,’ she chastised herself internally. ‘I definitely won’t be so reckless again! I must protect myself when I’m out!’
“Is anyone there? I’m awake. Thank you!” she called out as she stepped outside the room, but no one answered in the spacious apartment.
She didn’t know how long she had slept and was a little parched. Tu Jiaojiao went to pour herself some water and unexpectedly found a note on the table, signed by none other than Mu Si.
The note explained that she had coincidentally gone to South Street that day to buy cat litter for her company’s cats. Seeing a crowd, she stopped to look and, upon realizing it was Tu Jiaojiao, quickly took her away.
Her contact information was left at the bottom.
Tu Jiaojiao quickly called her.
“Hello, who is this?” The voice on the other end clearly didn’t recognize her number.
“Sister Mu, it’s Tu Jiaojiao. Thank you for today. I… I had a little low blood sugar…”
“Alright, stop the pretense, I know you’re a Moon Rabbit.” A low laugh sounded, whether mocking or disdainful. “I’ve never seen such a weak Moon Rabbit, and you even have the surname Tu.”
“Ah?” Heavens! How did she know!
“Oh, I’m a Moon Rabbit too, but from a collateral branch. My bloodline is relatively thin, and my access to the Clan Territory is restricted each year, unlike you, the Tu-surnamed ones, who treat it like going home,” Mu Si explained, sensing her confusion. “Didn’t your sister tell you that the Moon Rabbits have a Mu collateral branch? It’s common knowledge; go ask her right away.”
Suddenly receiving another wave of mental shock, Tu Jiaojiao was speechless, her mind a complete blank.
Mu Si continued to chuckle, “You must be over twenty now. When did you awaken your bloodline? You don’t even know how much spiritual power you have and you pass out in the street. What would you have done if you hadn’t run into me?”
“I… I only awakened recently,” Tu Jiaojiao replied with lingering fear. “Thank you, Sister Mu. It’s getting late, I need to hurry home, or my sister will worry. Last time my spiritual power went berserk, she almost flayed me.”
Mu Si: “…”
“You’d better leave now. I’m busy with work. I sent your sister the address right after I left, and she should be arriving soon.”
Tu Jiaojiao was on the verge of tears and immediately hung up the phone to make a quick escape.
But it was too late. Her sister caught her right in the elevator lobby.
She expected a fierce scolding, but instead, her sister rushed forward and hugged her tightly, her voice laced with panic: “Jiaojiao, are you okay? How did you end up in Mu Si’s hands?”
Tu Jiaojiao: “?”
As her sister took her home, she explained that the Moon Rabbit bloodline in the Mu clan’s current generation had a tendency towards atavism, especially Mu Si, who had awakened even earlier than her and whose bloodline purity was comparable to her own.
However, the rules of the Clan Territory were set by the ancestors, meaning the resources they could access were vastly different.
But when their parents were still alive, they found a way: they adopted Mu Si, changing her name to Tu Si.
After that, the Clan Territory accepted her entry, and the two often stayed there together, but they never practiced or studied together.
It was like knowing only the name of a classmate in a different class in the same grade.
Moreover, Tu Yueming never knew who was responsible for Mu Si’s bloodline awakening; Mu Si had never mentioned it.
After the accident involving the Tu parents, the Mu family, to avoid suspicion, proactively took Mu Si back. Over the years, they had little contact.
She heard that Mu Si was now in business, but her ventures did not overlap significantly with the Tu Group’s projects, and Tu Yueming had long since forgotten about her.
Tu Jiaojiao had no idea there were so many complications. According to her sister, she must have met Mu Si when she was little.
Tu Yueming said that after she stabilized the Tu Group, she met with Mu Si once, indicating that she could continue her parents’ wishes and allow Mu Si to enter the Clan Territory under the name Tu Si.
However, Mu Si, due to being frequently passed between families, had developed a psychological barrier. She refused with a cold laugh and never appeared again, even forsaking the few opportunities she had each year to enter the Clan Territory.
Tu Jiaojiao pondered this. When Mu Si mentioned her sister during their last meeting, there was a sense of nostalgia in her eyes. If she had to guess, perhaps Mu Si was more dissatisfied with Sister Mi…
After returning home, Tu Yueming sat on the sofa in silence for a long time, having poured a glass of water but not drinking it, lost in thought.
Seeing her like this, Tu Jiaojiao wanted to cheer her up.
So she rushed over and hugged her sister, happily saying, “I don’t know if Mu Si told you, but my ability has awakened!”
Snapping out of her thoughts, Tu Yueming shook her head and smiled, “She only mentioned you running out of spiritual power and her taking you home, and she asked me to pay her for the materials of the Spirit Gathering Array she set up. What is your ability, Jiaojiao?”
“It feels pretty useless,” Tu Jiaojiao scratched her head sheepishly. “I can just hear the inner thoughts of small animals…”
She no longer concealed it and recounted exactly what had happened that day, stressing that she didn’t know eavesdropping on animals’ thoughts required spiritual power, which was why she collapsed from exhaustion.
Tu Yueming grudgingly accepted her explanation and, with lingering fear, said, “It’s a good thing you ran into Mu Si. If this ever happens again, you must call your sister immediately. Since you didn’t know this time, I won’t blame you.”
She patted Tu Jiaojiao’s head encouragingly, “This ability is recorded in the Clan Territory books. It’s called ‘Beast Heart Communication’ (Shou Xin Tong), and it was very useful before technology became so advanced.”
“One ancestor used it to command hundreds of beasts, riding a tiger to punish evil and uphold justice, maintaining peace in their region. Another ancestor used this ability to learn about floods and earthquakes that humans couldn’t sense from animals, allowing people to prepare in advance and significantly reducing casualties and property losses.”
Tu Jiaojiao’s eyes sparkled as she listened. So, when used correctly, the ability could play such an amazing role?!
In that case, she didn’t need to feel sorry for herself. As long as she paid close attention to the animals’ thoughts, it would surely come in handy one day!
Furthermore, even if there was peace and prosperity now, and no fierce tigers were roaming the city streets, with this ability alone, she would know how to take better care of Marshmallow!
“Sister, what is your ability? You’ve never told me,” Tu Jiaojiao asked, smiling with expectation in her eyes.
“Ahem.” Tu Yueming glanced at her and said in a very Versailles (humblebragging) way, “Your sister only has a tiny ‘Blessing’ ability. It just ensures the people around me are healthy and have great luck, and also lets the Tu Group successfully win various bidding projects.”
Wuwuwu, it’s truly infuriating to compare yourself to others!
The little spark of pride Tu Jiaojiao had just felt about her own ability was instantly crushed by her sister.
Unexpectedly, her sister’s eyelids drooped, and her tone became lonely, “It’s a shame my ability was so, so weak when I was little. Otherwise, I would have desperately sent my blessings to Mom and Dad, and maybe they wouldn’t have left…”
“Everyone has their own destiny,” Tu Jiaojiao was anxious and squeezed her sister’s hand to comfort her. “Mom must have had a powerful ability too, but that danger was too fierce for her to resist.”
Tu Yueming: “…”
“Jiao, I forgot to tell you, Dad was the Moon Rabbit.”
Awakening her ability was only the first step. Her sister created a strict plan for Tu Jiaojiao to strengthen her abilities.
This was not to rush her into diligence, but to let her figure out the baseline of her spiritual power reserves, control her usage, and prevent another fainting incident.
Tu Jiaojiao knew that her two spiritual power meltdowns had worried her sister sick, so she worked hard to restrain herself, calmed her mind, avoided thinking about Yanyan, and diligently studied in the Clan Territory.
As she became more proficient with her ability, she gradually shed the restriction of needing to touch an animal’s fur to hear its thoughts; now she could hear them within one meter.
However, when there were several small animals in front of her simultaneously, Tu Jiaojiao couldn’t accurately control her spiritual power.
Multiple animals’ voices would often clash in her mind at the same time, and her spiritual power would drain rapidly.
One could say it had evolved from a close combat one on one skill into a long range area of effect skill.
Her next cultivation goal was to evolve this long range area of effect skill into a long range one on one mode.
While Tu Jiaojiao was in seclusion training, Ling Hanyan was also busy.
After her holiday, she immediately threw herself back into filming.
However, she had an additional task: bonding with a group of Red crowned Cranes.
Since Director Li Shang had received a lot of investment, he bravely discarded the idea of using likely to fail special effects. Instead, he worked his connections and borrowed a flock of live Red crowned Cranes from a zoo.
He planned to have Ling Hanyan first bond with these majestic, ethereal birds, in preparation for shooting scenes of Qin Qianhe’s tranquil life in the heavens, and later, the moment she ascends to immortality, surrounded by a multitude of cranes seeking her wisdom on the secret to ascension.
Using live cranes as extras would definitely produce a much better effect than using unrealistic special effects.
Unlike her frequent difficulties in communicating with humans, Ling Hanyan showed immense patience and love when dealing with these animals who didn’t require verbal communication.
She learned about the personality of each Red crowned Crane from the zookeepers, took meticulous notes, and made time every day to feed them, play with them, and clean their feathers.
In time, she genuinely formed a strong bond with the cranes. Every time she went to see them, they would fly over, circling her and calling out their crane cries.
The director had already saved quite a few interesting behind the scenes clips.
They had thought that with the female lead’s dedication, these scenes would go very smoothly.
Who would have expected that just before filming, a problem would arise? Several Red crowned Cranes suddenly became inexplicably aggressive, attacking their peers and keeping people at bay, causing chaos among the entire flock. Even the experienced zookeepers couldn’t figure out the reason.
One day, when Ling Hanyan was chatting with Tu Jiaojiao on WeChat, she mentioned this in passing.
Tu Jiaojiao’s eyes lit up: “!!!”
Sister, I can be useful now!!
