The Film Queen Is Cold and Ruthless, Only Sends Money - Chapter 40.1
Su Xue still felt the need to worry a little about her future self and asked Su Yun, “Have you guys decided what style you’re going to pair us with?”
“What kind of style do you prefer?” Su Yun thought she could be considered a decent person since she was earnestly asking for their opinions. “We’ll try our best to go with what you suggest.”
Worried that Su Xue might not immediately think of a style, Su Yun thoughtfully listed a few options: “For example, rugged prairie style, magical girl style, sweetheart angel style…”
Su Xue and Jing Zhaozhao: “…Is there a normal human style?”
The styles Su Yun mentioned were quite novel. Whichever one they wore, it would definitely guarantee a 100% head-turning rate and would surely give their fashion design teacher a fresh perspective!
The only question was whether it would be a pleasant surprise or a terrifying shock.
She knew her earlier premonition was right, why did she even bother asking!
Jing Zhaozhao was worried that the longer they stayed, the more outrageous Su Yun’s outfit ideas would become, and the more inspired she’d get.
So she grabbed Su Xue and decisively bid farewell to Su Yun and Jiang Zhi: “Take your time shopping, pick out whatever you like. If you run out of money, just come find us.”
Hopefully, they wouldn’t have time to “carefully select” outfits for them just throwing something together would be fine!
[Hahahahahaha! Su Xue asking Su Yun was a mistake from the start! Now both of them are scared off!]
[Su Yun, tell me the truth, how long have you been brainstorming those styles you just casually listed? Were you planning this since the director first mentioned it?]
[I’d actually love to see Su Yun and Jiang Zhi wearing those styles! That would be hilarious, hahaha!]
Watching Su Xue and Jing Zhaozhao leave, Su Yun even felt a little regretful. There were so many more styles she hadn’t even told them about yet!
Jiang Zhi knew Su Yun was joking and hadn’t spoken up earlier, simply watching with a smile as Su Yun’s lively eyes sparkled.
Even the simplest words seemed to become amusing when Su Yun said them.
Her dark, bright eyes brimmed with laughter, occasionally flashing with a hint of mischief much like a cat at home arching its fluffy back the moment it spots a treat, meowing eagerly at them.
Only after Su Xue left did Jiang Zhi chuckle and ask, “Have you figured out how to style them?”
She knew Su Yun well by now. If she had already decided on an outfit for them, she definitely wouldn’t have revealed it earlier.
Thus, Jiang Zhi could safely rule out all the aforementioned styles.
“Pretty much got an idea!” Su Yun grinned. “But let’s focus on picking out our own stuff first!”
Ever since receiving the paper-cut keychain from Jiang Zhi, Su Yun had been thinking about giving her a handmade gift in return.
But Jiang Zhi lacked nothing. Even if Su Yun gave her the most expensive item, it would likely just be another symbol of wealth in Jiang Zhi’s eyes hardly a reflection of Su Yun’s sincerity.
Jiang Zhi’s hobbies were simple: reading and exercising. This had stumped the usually carefree Su Yun for a long time.
Before transmigrating into this novel, Su Yun had grown up in an orphanage. Though life wasn’t luxurious, she was at least able to complete her education and find a job.
Therefore, even though this job often required overtime and late nights, for Su Yun, it was already much better than her previous life even surpassing the lives of many ordinary people.
In the orphanage, almost everything was distributed equally based on actual needs.
After starting work, her colleagues were all busy with their own lives, focused on making ends meet, with little time or energy to care about others.
It could be said that the keychain Jiang Zhi had given her last time was the first and only gift she had ever received that was truly her own.
And Su Yun hadn’t even asked for it, she had merely glanced at it a few times, but Jiang Zhi remembered and bought it for her.
For Su Yun, this was a completely new experience. The subtle, unfamiliar feeling she had when receiving the gift something sweet yet tinged with a faint sourness, as if the slightest touch would make it overflow still felt vivid in her memory.
Originally, she had planned to look for a suitable gift during their trip to the beach between the last episode’s filming.
But the plan was postponed because of the cat, and in the following days, they were busy with paperwork and buying supplies, so neither of them brought it up again.
However, just now, when Su Yun entered the mall, she spotted these clothes!
She thought she could start by carefully picking out a few beautiful outfits for Jiang Zhi. Though the gesture might seem small, it would at least be a way to thank her for the gift.
Later, whenever she saw something that suited Jiang Zhi, she would buy it all.
If she couldn’t find a gift that would move Jiang Zhi as deeply as Jiang Zhi’s gift had moved her, then she would just give more enough to make her happy and delighted!
Quantity over quality wasn’t a bad approach when it came to gifts!
The store Su Yun and Jiang Zhi entered specialized in local-style clothing from Jingguang City, mostly long dresses in deep blue.
The waist and hem of the dresses were adorned with intricate silver tassels and ornaments, cascading down the dark fabric like a river of stars.
There weren’t many pieces hanging in the shop, but each one was unique whether it was the loose skirts or the asymmetrical hems, all had a strong sense of design without feeling repetitive.
[Wow, the clothes here are gorgeous! The moment the camera zoomed in, I fell in love at first sight!]
[Su Yun has such great taste, she said she liked this store earlier! At the time, the camera was too far away, so I didn’t see it and thought she was just promoting Jingguang City!]
[So pretty! And so distinctive, it feels like there’s a hint of ethnic minority influence too. I’ve never seen either of them wear something like this before!]
[After watching this show for so long, I only remember them being funny! Seeing them in front of these clothes reminds me that they’re actually stunning, they’ll look amazing in these!]
The shopkeeper noticed them and came over to explain, “The patterns here are all hand-embroidered that’s what sets our clothes apart from other stores.”
Hearing this, Su Yun and Jiang Zhi took a closer look. The silver wave-like motifs complemented the silver tassels at the waist perfectly.
It was clear that the embroiderer was highly skilled the stitches were fine and precise, the patterns lifelike, as if they could truly see the shimmering reflection of sunlight on water.
Su Yun asked the shopkeeper to take down one of the dresses nearby and turned to Jiang Zhi.
“Want to try this one?”
The outfit she was holding was the one that had caught her eye even before entering the store. Now, holding it up close, it looked even more stunning than it had from a distance.
Jiang Zhi’s usual style of dressing had always been dictated by brand requirements. When she wasn’t working, she kept things simple, and Wen Yun never commented on it.
The only person who had ever enjoyed dressing her up like a Barbie doll was her mother, Jiang Xia. From childhood, her mother had loved shopping, returning home with carefully selected outfits for her to try on.
But after Jiang Xia’s health declined and she moved to a convalescent home, she stopped shopping as much, and the number of times she asked Jiang Zhi to try on clothes dwindled.
Never did Jiang Zhi expect that today, it would be Su Yun saying those words to her.
Su Yun had excellent taste, and the clothes she picked were beautiful. Though Jiang Zhi hadn’t mentioned it, the first outfit that had caught her eye upon entering the store was the very one Su Yun was holding now.
Meeting Su Yun’s slightly expectant gaze, Jiang Zhi felt no aversion at all. With a soft laugh, she took the dress from her hands. “Alright, I’ll go try it on.”
There was even a flicker of anticipation in her heart perhaps for the dress itself, or perhaps, she wondered how Su Yun would react when she came out wearing it.
After Jiang Zhi entered the fitting room, the store owner, a young woman, walked over and struck up a conversation with Su Yun as if they were old friends. “Su Yun, don’t you want to pick something to try on too?”
Su Yun turned, surprised. “You know me?”
The owner giggled. “Of course I know you! I’ve been following you since the teaser for Dear Them was released.”
“That early?” Su Yun was genuinely shocked. “I thought you only recognized me after the show started airing.”
Back when the teaser was filmed, the comments under her Weibo posts had been sparse mostly curious onlookers or a few vocal detractors. The number of people who genuinely paid attention to her could probably be counted on one hand.
“I thought you were really funny back then, and once the show started, I knew my instincts were right!” The owner had a warm, approachable personality, chatting with Su Yun as if they were just friends catching up.
“When I heard you guys were coming to Jinguang City, I was already so excited.” The owner sighed regretfully she had wanted to watch the games earlier, but someone had to mind the store, so she had to settle for the replay.
Just as she was lamenting her bad luck, Su Yun and Jiang Zhi had walked straight into her shop!
“When Jiang Zhi and I came in earlier, you seemed so calm. I thought you didn’t recognize us,” Su Yun said with a smile.
She hadn’t expected the owner to hold back this long before speaking up.
“I thought you two were doing a mission, and I didn’t want to interfere,” the owner explained. Despite her excitement, she always prioritized her responsibilities which was why she only dared to chat now!
Su Yun reassured her with a laugh. “Don’t worry, we’re just here to shop. Your clothes are gorgeous!”
“That’s a relief!” The owner then asked, “Do you want to go check on her in the fitting room? That dress has a back zipper, Jiang Zhi might not be able to manage it alone.”
As the store owner, she knew her inventory well. Dresses like this one had zippers at the back, near the waist, making them difficult to fasten without help.
Normally, she would ask customers if they needed any help before they entered the fitting room.
But now that Su Yun was standing here, there was no need for her to offer assistance just a simple reminder would suffice!
