The Film Queen Is Cold and Ruthless, Only Sends Money - Chapter 27.2
Liu Yangran: “What are you doing?”
Su Xue didn’t even look up at Liu Yangran’s loud question, taking turns with Jing Zhaozhao to dig furiously. In fact, the urgency only increased with their arrival, making them work even faster.
Watching Su Xue and Jing Zhaozhao about to outperform them using their own tool, Liu Yangran and Ye Ying rushed over to reclaim it. But burdened with the water buckets and the muddy ground, they only managed to retrieve it after the other team had dug another row of holes making the whole scene utterly ridiculous.
Jiang Zhi watched the chaotic scene unfold. “Are they really not going to start fighting?”
Su Yun observed the “warm and friendly” interactions among the guests. “Of course not! Look how happy they are!”
Jiang Zhi turned her gaze back to Su Yun.
Whether the guests were getting along warmly or not, she couldn’t say but she was absolutely certain who the mastermind behind it all was.
Indeed, even with cat whiskers drawn on her face, Su Yun’s cleverness hadn’t diminished one bit.
–
With the tools Su Yun had provided, the other teams progressed much faster.
Liu Yangran’s team finished right after Su Yun’s, followed by Lin Yan’s.
Despite borrowing Liu Yangran’s shovel, Su Xue’s team was still slightly slower, ending up in last place.
After they had each finished planting their seeds, everyone was covered in mud splatters.
After laughing at each other for a while, they stood together again.
The director asked, “Now that you’ve completed the farming task, does anyone have any thoughts to share?”
Liu Yangran was the first to speak. “Before coming here, I thought farming might be boring, but after actually doing it just now, it felt really fun!”
“Same here,” Su Xue chimed in with a laugh. “And the shovel I snatched works so well, hahaha!!”
Liu Yangran: “…”
Su Yun was also experiencing farming firsthand for the first time, feeling as if the farming genes in her bloodline were awakening.
Even though it was just mechanical actions digging holes, placing seeds, watering, the sense of accomplishment afterward was immense. No wonder she had always enjoyed farming games before!
Su Yun added, “But director, up until now, we still don’t know what we just planted?”
As soon as she said this, everyone else realized it too. After all that hard work, they had no idea what they would eventually harvest.
Lin Yan: “Yeah, what exactly did we plant just now?”
The director explained, “The seeds we gave you were edamame. Edamame sprouts quickly and has a short growth cycle. Even if planted now, it can fully mature by summer.
If everything goes well with your planting today, you might even see the seeds sprout by the final day of this episode.”
“Really? I’m so excited!” Su Xue turned to look at the soil behind them, imagining the fresh green sprouts they might see in three days. “I don’t even feel as tired anymore!”
[They grow that fast?! I watched the whole livestream, so it’s like I participated in the farming too!]
[I feel like Xuexue’s exhaustion mostly came from fighting Ye Ying for the shovel, hahaha!!]
[Agreed! The scene of Xuexue running around with the shovel while Ye Ying chased her had me dying of laughter!]
[Already made into a meme come grab it! [Image: Catch me if you can.jpg]]
With their task completed, Jiang Zhi asked the director, “Are we heading back now?”
The director replied, “You’ve all worked hard today! We can return now, and based on your performance during the farming task, we’ll reassign the rooms.”
Su Xue, who had been in high spirits, froze the moment she heard about room reassignments.
Oh no, she had almost forgotten about that!
But no matter how much she dreaded it, she had to face it eventually.
When they reached the open-top tractor they had arrived in, they noticed something odd. “Director, the driver doesn’t seem to be here?”
The director explained, “We only hired the driver for three hours. Since your farming task took too long, the driver has already left.”
Xu Zhi stared at the tractor. “So, there’s no driver now?”
The director nodded. “That’s right. So now, the guests will have to drive the tractor back to our filming location themselves.”
The true intentions of the production team were finally revealed.
Su Yun asked curiously, “Director, how much did the production team pay the driver for three hours?”
The director answered honestly, “We offered 200 yuan per hour, so three hours would be 600 yuan.”
“That much?!” Su Yun was shocked. One hour could earn her what she used to make in a whole day before.
Wait, no, a day and a half!
She silently calculated in her mind maybe after this episode wrapped up, she should ask the director if she could take on that job.
“Yeah, our crew is really strapped for cash,” the director began playing the sympathy card.
Lin Yan crossed her arms, not buying it so easily. “But director, with a crew this big, surely you can spare two hundred bucks?”
Su Yun was multitasking, on one hand, calculating her potential earnings as a tractor driver: 200 yuan per hour, 24 hours a day, and roughly 30 days a month, which would add up to a whopping 144,000 yuan!
On the other hand, she suddenly realized why the director had been so kind as to arrange a tractor ride for them that morning.
Clearly, it was a trap, waiting for them to fall right into it now!
Su Yun: “Right, if the production team is really short on money and can’t afford to hire someone, then we, the guests.”
As she spoke, her entire demeanor seemed to radiate two words: generous and rich!
Director: Could this task actually attract an investment?!
The other guests also turned to look at Su Yun, fantasizing about her pulling out a black card from her pocket, slapping it on the director’s table, and instantly turning the tables making them the bosses!
And then they could hire the director to drive the tractor for them!
The fantasy was beautiful, but reality was harsh.
“We guests really don’t have any money,” Su Yun said bluntly, turning to the group. “So, who’s going to be the driver?”
[Hahahahaha!! Production team, if you’re really broke, we viewers aren’t opposed to continuing to watch!]
[I do have a little money, but I’m keeping it for myself!]
[Su Yun: Everything’s negotiable, but don’t you dare target our wallets!]
All of them had driver’s licenses, but none had ever driven a tractor before.
“A tractor just has a few extra wheels shouldn’t be a big deal. I’ll give it a try,” Lin Yan volunteered.
She climbed into the tractor’s driver’s seat. “Not bad, actually,” she remarked.
Compared to sitting in a car, the tractor’s open frame offered an incredibly wide field of vision.
The others boarded the tractor one by one. Seeing the production crew standing behind, Su Yun enthusiastically invited them, “Why don’t you all hop on too? There’s plenty of space.”
Director: “You just sit tight. Don’t worry about us.”
His tone betrayed deep skepticism about Lin Yan’s tractor-driving skills.
But once they actually got moving, it became clear that the director’s judgment was way off.
Lin Yan drove at a steady, unhurried pace, keeping the ride remarkably smooth.
Su Yun enjoyed the breeze against her face. “Not bad at all! Even better than the driver this morning!”
Yet another competitor had emerged for her future employment prospects!
“Of course. I promise to get you all home safe and sound,” Lin Yan said confidently.
At a turn, the tractor needed to go right, but Lin Yan instinctively reached for the turn signal.
However, tractors are built differently from regular cars. After pressing the button, she realized she’d activated the wrong signal.
Su Yun watched as the tractor turned right while the left signal blinked. “Director Lin, why the feint while driving?”
She could only be grateful there were no other vehicles on the road otherwise, that “safe and sound” promise would’ve shattered on the spot.
Lin Yan: “Just a little mishap.”
Pride really does come before a fall.
[Feint while driving, hahaha!! Su Yun, you’ve found the perfect phrase for it!]
[I’ve done this while driving too now I know how to describe it next time it happens!]
–
After returning and finishing dinner, it was finally time to switch rooms.
The most anticipated change was undoubtedly Su Xue and Jing Chaochao moving into the fourth room.
The others didn’t even bother packing their suitcases, while Su Yun and Jiang Zhi had nothing to pack in the first place, they were already standing at the door of the fourth room.
Su Xue walked in carrying her luggage and took in the scene before her. “I never noticed before, but the fourth room is actually this shabby?”
It was truly a room built from a few wooden planks, raw and completely natural.
As the previous occupant of the room, Liu Yangran was extremely “reluctant” to hand over the details of the place to Su Xue and Jing Chaozhao.
Liu Yangran: “It’s best not to open and close this repaired door too frequently or too forcefully, or it might need fixing again. At night, you can leave the window slightly open that way, it won’t get too hot.”
[All learned through blood and tears, hahaha!! The window tip is so real!]
[Liu Yangran: Having lived here for three days, I know everything (lights a cigarette.jpg)]
Jing Chaozhao glanced around the room. “Does the fourth room not have a fan?”
Though their previous rooms weren’t great, they at least had fans.
Especially at night, Su Xue would often drag a small stool in front of the fan to enjoy the cool breeze.
Occasionally, she’d even whimsically ask the fan if there was anyone in the world more beautiful than her.
The fan, of course, could only shake its head, earning itself a compliment from Su Xue.
“No, so it gets a bit hot at night, but we do have paper fans,” Ye Ying replied.
Perhaps because Liu Yangran and Ye Ying had seen the fourth room at its absolute worst from the start, this issue was still bearable for them.
With nothing else to do, they started brainstorming ways to make Su Xue and Jing Chaozhao’s room a little cooler.
Jiang Zhi: “To cool the room down? Maybe putting a basin of cold water inside could help.”
“That’s a good idea,” Lin Yan added. “I’ll go check if we have any bamboo mats for you.”
Su Yun was also deep in thought, but given their limited resources, she couldn’t come up with anything better.
Su Xue and Jing Chaozhao were grateful for their help, and seeing Su Yun frowning in concentration moved them even more. “It’s fine if you can’t think of anything!”
Su Yun: “I did think of something, but it probably won’t help with the heat.”
“Go ahead and say it anyway!” Su Xue pressed down on the bed frame casually. “Who knows, it might inspire us.”
Su Yun hesitated for half a minute before finally saying, “I could just make sarcastic remarks.”
