- Chapter 6 - I’m Someone Who Always Protects My Own
After Lu Zhao came out of the washroom, she saw Yunxia already lying on the inner side of the bed. Curled up into a small ball, facing away from the outside, her delicate face was buried in the quilt, her long eyelashes trembling incessantly.
Lu Zhao deliberately leaned closer to look at her. Just moments ago, she had been so passionate, yet now, when it was time to sleep, she pretended to be fast asleep.
Lu Zhao found it amusing and decided to tease her. She drew closer to Yunxia, her warm breath brushing against Yunxia’s face, while her restless hand slipped inside Yunxia’s inner garment.
Yunxia’s earlobes flushed crimson, a tingling sensation coursing through her body. She froze, not daring to move, but when Lu Zhao’s hand cupped her breast, she couldn’t help but let out a soft whimper.
Lu Zhao chuckled lightly and asked, “What’s the matter? Not asleep yet?”
Yunxia grumbled inwardly: With your hands setting everything they touch ablaze, how could I possibly fall asleep? Outwardly, however, she showed no sign of it. Burying her face deeper into the quilt, she mumbled in a muffled voice, “Sister, you jest. How could I possibly sleep with you like this?”
Seeing Yunxia wrapped so tightly in the quilt, Lu Zhao made no further moves. Instead, she embraced Yunxia, quilt and all, pulling her into her arms.
Yunxia struggled slightly, but Lu Zhao raised her hand and gave her rounded bottom a light pat, her voice low and husky. “Don’t move. Stay with me and sleep for a while.”
Yunxia, frightened, didn’t dare to move another inch. She quietly nestled in Lu Zhao’s embrace, listening to her steady breathing. Yunxia had thought she would remain stiff and unable to sleep all night, but to her surprise, she drifted off not long after.
The soft moonlight fell on Yunxia’s delicate face. Her long eyelashes veiled her bright eyes, and her full, rosy lips were slightly pouted. Even in her sleep, her brows were unconsciously furrowed, as if she had suffered many grievances.
Lu Zhao gazed at her for a while, her heart inexplicably stirred. She reached out and gently smoothed Yunxia’s furrowed brows, murmuring softly, “Have you endured much hardship? If only”
If you truly treat me sincerely, perhaps I could help you seek revenge. After all, I’m someone who always protects my own.
The next day, when Yunxia woke up, the other side of the bed was already empty. She sat up, the thin quilt slipping down to her waist.
Hearing the movement, Yingxue immediately entered to attend to her. Seeing Yunxia on the bed, her sleepy eyes still hazy, Yingxue couldn’t help but notice how Yunxia’s summer inner garment, thin and delicate, accentuated her graceful figure. Fresh from sleep, she carried a hint of enchanting charm.
Yunxia, still an unmarried maiden, couldn’t help but imagine scenes of her mistress and Yunxia together. Her face flushed, and her heart raced. She lowered her head, not daring to look directly at Yunxia.
Yunxia found Yingxue’s behavior a bit odd. Was there something different about her today?
She touched her own face, threw off the quilt, and climbed out of bed, casually asking, “Where did Sister go?”
Yingxue wore a knowing expression. So the young lady truly has deep feelings for the prince, wanting to see her as soon as she wakes up. She immediately leaned closer to Yunxia and said, “Young lady, Her Highness is on leave today. She’s in the courtyard playing chess by herself!”
Yunxia’s eyes lit up. Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity to nurture their relationship? She deliberately chose a soft pink gown, cinched at the waist, making her slender figure appear as if it could break with the slightest pressure. Her curvaceous form, paired with her charmingly delicate face, created an aura of pure innocence and irresistible allure.
After finishing her makeup, Yunxia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, picked up her guqin, and cast a playful glance at Yingxue. With a coquettish laugh, she asked, “Yingxue, how do I look? Beautiful, isn’t it?”
Yingxue stood frozen on the spot this was far beyond just “good-looking”! She swallowed hard and stammered foolishly, “Miss, you are the most beautiful person I have ever seen.” No wonder she had been brought home by the master.
Yunxia tapped Yingxue’s little head lightly and chuckled coquettishly, “That’s because you haven’t seen my elder sister and mother they are far more beautiful than I am. Come on, let’s go to the small kitchen and get some exquisite pastries.”
As the two approached the small kitchen, they overheard a maid’s voice from inside: “The one from Lanyuan really thinks she’s a mistress now! Always demanding this and that.”
Another chimed in, “Exactly! She only relies on that face and her seductive tricks! Once the Song family’s young lady marries into the prince’s mansion, I bet the one from Lanyuan will be sent away. But speaking of which, Sister Yuqing, I think you’re even more beautiful than her!”
The maid named Yuqing blushed and nudged the girl beside her, “What nonsense are you spouting!”
“If the master takes a fancy to you, you’ll enjoy endless wealth and luxury. I’ve seen the one from Lanyuan too her eyes are just a bit captivating, but in every other way, she can’t compare to you!”
Yingxue immediately wanted to step in and stop them, but Yunxia was quicker. She cleared her throat softly outside and, after a moment, entered with Yingxue, saying coldly, “Prepare a set of pastries for me make them exquisite.”
The two young maids were startled. They glanced at her furtively but dared not make any overt gestures, lowering their heads as they went inside to fetch the pastries.
Yunxia took the items, turned around, and left with Yingxue. She had no time to waste anger on these people they couldn’t harm her anyway.
Yunxia swayed her hips as she walked ahead, her figure appearing even more graceful. She knew exactly where her charm lay her mother had blessed both her and her elder sister with striking looks. Since childhood, Yunxia had been different from her timid and meek elder sister. She was vengeful, holding grudges over the smallest slights. Originally, she had intended to lure Xu Yunshen into making a mistake, turning the Xu family into the laughingstock of Yindu, as revenge for the years of humiliation inflicted by her father and stepmother. But that despicable Yang Yun had dared to harm her elder sister this grievance must be avenged! Yang Yun, and even the entire Yang family, would have to atone for his mistake! She wanted Yang Yun to kneel and sincerely apologize to her elder sister!
Yunxia’s grip on the guqin tightened, her knuckles turning white, and her eyes grew cold.
Yingxue cautiously observed Yunxia’s expression, thinking she was angered by the two maids’ earlier remarks. She resolved to inform the master later, urging him to discipline the household staff properly so as not to upset the young lady again.
From a distance, Yunxia spotted Lu Zhao standing with his hands behind his back under the silk tree. Dressed in a light blue robe, his tall figure exuded an aloof and icy aura. A breeze swept by, causing petals to flutter down and scatter delicately over his shoulders.
Gazing at his noble yet distant silhouette, Yunxia felt a flicker of hesitation. Could such a proud and solitary man truly develop feelings for her?
Yingxue, carrying the pastries, followed behind Yunxia, stunned by how quickly her expression had shifted. One moment, her eyes were chillingly cold; the next, upon seeing the prince, they turned soft and hesitant, as if she dared not approach.
Seeing Yunxia standing there with her mouth slightly agape, staring obsessively at the prince’s back without any intention of moving forward, Yingxue grew weary from holding the pastries and couldn’t help but let out a soft cough.
Upon hearing this, Lu Zhao turned to look at Yunxia. Her tall stature gave her a somewhat imposing presence at that moment. Her striking eyebrows arched slightly as she spoke in an unreadable tone, “Niannian, what is it?”
Yunxia couldn’t understand why her heart raced uncontrollably every time she faced Lu Zhao a sensation she had never experienced before, as if her heart were about to leap out of her mouth. Struggling to suppress the strange feeling, she lowered her gaze, placed the guqin on the nearby stone table, and said softly, “Sister, Niannian heard you were resting today and specially made some pastries for you.” Inwardly, she grumbled, Even though I didn’t make them myself, I went through quite a bit of trouble to get these pastries!
After speaking, she took the pastries from Yingxue’s hands. With her slender, jade-white fingers, she picked one up and brought it to Lu Zhao’s lips. As her sleeve slipped, a delicate, snow-white section of her arm brushed intentionally or unintentionally against Lu Zhao’s chest.
Lu Zhao remained unmoved, her expression unchanged as she stared at Yunxia.
Yunxia’s heart pounded like a drum, her cheeks flushed with an unnatural blush, and even her slender neck tinged with pink. Yet, she stubbornly held up the pastry, her beautiful fox-like eyes sparkling with light. Tilting her head coquettishly, she pleaded, “Sister… have a bite, please! I worked so hard on these for half the day!”
