- Chapter 30 - How Wonderful to Have My Beloved by My Side
The next day, Yunxia awoke in Lu Zhao’s soft embrace, completely enveloped by her scent.
Tilting her head up, Yunxia noticed Lu Zhao was still asleep. Quietly, she reached out a hand, tracing the contours of her face bit by bit. This was the one who held her heart!
Her picturesque brows and eyes, her elegant and handsome face, her deep star-like gaze but the best feature was her tall, straight nose bridge. And now, she was right here beside her. How wonderful!
Yunxia carefully wrapped her arms around Lu Zhao’s waist, drawing herself even closer. She nuzzled her face affectionately against Lu Zhao’s chest.
Seeing that Lu Zhao still hadn’t stirred, she stealthily tugged open the front of her robe, brushed her small nose against Lu Zhao’s collarbone, pressed her lips to the hollow of her neck, and gently licked with her soft tongue.
Just as Yunxia tried to pull away, a pair of slender yet strong hands firmly held the back of her head. A familiar voice sounded by her ear, “Xiaxia”
Yunxia froze instantly, her cheeks flushing crimson. This being caught red-handed molesting the Regent first thing in the morning someone save her!
With a swift turn, Lu Zhao pinned Yunxia beneath her, a faint smile playing on her lips. “Xiaxia, what were you doing just now?”
Feeling Lu Zhao’s intense gaze fixed on her, Yunxia closed her eyes in embarrassment, her eyelashes fluttering nervously. She bit her lip and mumbled incoherently, “Ah I just woke up. What’s the matter?”
Lu Zhao looked down at her with an amused yet meaningful expression, then suddenly leaned in, her warm breath washing over Yunxia’s slender neck.
“Since Xiaxia seems to have forgotten, how about I help you remember?”
Her soft lips slowly grazed Yunxia’s neck, and that strange sensation once again overwhelmed Yunxia’s mind hot and dry, making her unconsciously lick the corner of her own mouth.
Watching the trembling figure beneath her, Lu Zhao’s eyes gradually darkened with desire, as if she wanted to devour the person below.
After a long while, as their breathing slowly steadied, Lu Zhao held Yunxia tightly and sighed wryly, “I’m truly torturing myself, Xiaxia. After the Mid-Autumn family banquet, I’ll go ask the Emperor to grant us a marriage decree.”
Yunxia intertwined her delicate fingers with Lu Zhao’s, their hands clasped together, and said softly, “Alright, but what about the Grand Princess”
Lu Zhao gently scratched her palm and smiled, “Don’t worry, Mother won’t be a problem. Before the wedding, I’ll take you to meet my aunt Zheng Rong and Niannian. I’ve arranged for them to stay at a villa in the suburbs. I wonder if Aunt will be able to let bygones be bygones and agree to this marriage?”
A warm feeling flowed through Yunxia’s heart. With tears welling in her eyes, she nodded, “You’re so wonderful, how could Aunt possibly disagree? She’ll be happy.”
Lu Zhao patted her back. “Get up now. Let me change your dressing so your sister won’t worry. I already sent a message to the Xu residence this morning. Later, I’ll personally escort you back and stand up for you. Before the wedding, my dear, you’ll have to stay at the Xu residence please bear with it a little longer.”
Yunxia wrapped her arms around Lu Zhao’s waist, squirming in her embrace and whining playfully, “No, no! I want to stay with you always. We’ve already shared a bed, how can you still send me away?”
Lu Zhao looked helplessly at the little one in her arms moved one moment, coquettish the next and gave her a light tap on the bottom. “Hurry up and get out of bed! If you keep squirming, I really won’t let you go!”
Xu Residence.
“Madam, Xiaxia went with you all, so why have you all returned while she hasn’t come back even after a whole night?” The next morning, Yunqiu went to find Lady Yang and Xu Ruoxiang as soon as she could.
Lady Yang opened the door with a cold expression, her face twisted in disgust. “She’s only been gone for one night. How would we know? Maybe she ran off with some stray cat or dog.”
A wave of unease washed over Yunqiu. Clutching the doorframe, her voice trembling, she said, “You! Xiaxia would never do such a thing! What have you done with her?”
Lady Yang shot her a disdainful glance. “There were so many people at the banquet, what could I possibly have done to her?”
She looked Yunqiu up and down, taking in her slender, delicate figure and soft, tender face. Every time she saw her, she felt nothing but revulsion. Just like her mother!
“Oh now I remember. Your restless little sister is probably in the top scholar’s bed right now! Didn’t you see how coy she was acting yesterday? If your sister ends up marrying Pei Shu, at least the ‘good water’ won’t flow to outsiders!” Lady Yang’s laughter was lewd and contemptuous.
Yunqiu felt as if her heart had been gouged out. The pain was so intense she could barely stand, and she shook her head in disbelief. “No, no Xiaxia would never do that.”
Lady Yang crossed her arms, clearly enjoying the drama. “Why wouldn’t she? If you don’t believe me, go ask Pei Shu yourself. I saw your precious sister couldn’t take her eyes off him all night.”
Yunqiu staggered, murmuring to herself, “Yes, Pei Shu he was there yesterday too He must know something”
Distraught, she turned and stumbled toward Pei Shu’s home.
Lady Yang sneered, “What a fool! Disturbing my peace so early in the morning how unlucky!”
She turned to go back inside to freshen up when a servant rushed in, shouting, “Master, Madam! The Regent’s Mansion has sent someone!”
Lady Yang’s heart skipped a beat. After the last incident, the mere mention of the Regent filled her with dread. Why was the Regent’s Mansion sending people to their home again so soon?
Steadying herself, she snapped, “Why all the rushing so early in the morning? What does the Regent’s Mansion want?”
The servant, panting, replied, “The messenger said that Second Miss Xu need not worry. Third Miss is at the Regent’s Mansion and will return shortly.”
Lady Yang shrieked, “What? Who is at the Regent’s Mansion?”
The servant flinched and stammered, “Th-they said Third Miss”
Lady Yang’s vision went black, and she stumbled backward, crashing into the doorframe with a loud “thud!” followed by a pained cry.
“Mother! Mother!” Xu Ruoxiang rushed over to support her.
Lady Yang’s face was ashen. She closed her eyes, trying to compose herself, and said in a trembling voice, “Xiangxiang, I’m afraid we’ve made a terrible mistake…”
A flush of embarrassment crossed Xu Ruoxiang’s face as she hissed, “Mother, don’t be afraid. If it comes to it, I’ll go beg Prince Qing for help!”
Leaning on her daughter’s arm, Lady Yang made her way to the inner room. “I never imagined Xu Yunxia was so cunning. She’s always stayed in the inner courtyard, when did she manage to get involved with Lu Zhao?”
Xu Ruoxiang paid no mind and helped Lady Yang sit on a nearby chair. “Mother, don’t boost others’ morale while dampening our own. If she dares to bully us, I’ll go straight to Prince Qing! The Regent is merely the Grand Princess’s daughter, but Prince Qing is the Emperor’s son! He’s in line to inherit the throne someday!”
Lady Yang hastily covered Xu Ruoxiang’s mouth. “Oh, my dear child, I beg you, watch your words! If your father hears this, you’ll be punished again!”
Xu Ruoxiang pulled her mother’s hand away, her expression haughty. “Mother! Don’t be afraid. With Prince Qing on our side, why should we fear Lu Zhao? As for Father, once I become Prince Qing’s consort, he’ll have to treat me with the utmost respect. Hmph!”
Lady Yang fretted, “My little ancestor, please restrain yourself! Do you really think Prince Qing is someone you can manipulate so easily?”
Xu Ruoxiang grew impatient, frowning as she exclaimed, “Mother! Why don’t you believe in your daughter’s charm? Prince Qing he has already agreed to take me as his secondary consort!”
Lady Yang looked skeptical. “He agreed? When did this happen? Why hasn’t he sent anyone to set a wedding date?”
Xu Ruoxiang adopted a coy, girlish demeanor. “Oh, Mother! Don’t worry about the details! The point is, I’m not afraid of her this time!”
As they were speaking, a voice called from outside: “Master! Madam! The Regent has brought the Third Young Miss back!”
