The Female Lead Takes Care of Everything - Chapter 88
“It was during the war, you know.”
Muniel finally offered an excuse after forty years, saying things were very different back then.
“And I was your caretaker, your nanny. A nanny would do anything for her cat, even kill.”
“That’s right. Grandma killed them all.”
“Because she loved our Nini the most.”
“Heehee.”
Nivellia gently rested her head against Muniel’s shoulder.
“Grandma.”
Then she asked softly,
“The men who killed Nini and Aref… did you kill them all?”
“I did.”
Muniel’s thin, wrinkled hand gently brushed her white hair back.
Nivellia closed her eyes and felt the warmth of that tender touch. It was the one thing that hadn’t changed, even though everything else had.
“I killed all of them. Their commanders, the monsters, the Demon King, the Emperor. I killed them all for you.”
“Okay.”
“So don’t worry about anything anymore.”
“Is Mom okay?”
Nini asked quietly.
Muniel held back the emotions rising in her chest and smiled gently.
“As long as you’re happy, Mom will always be happy too.”
“…”
“Are you happy, Nini?”
“Yes.”
“Then this old woman is happy too.”
Caleo closed his stinging eyes tightly.
“Ugh…”
The endless pile of paperwork had finally blocked off his entire desk. At this point, even looking at anything white made him feel sick.
“I’ve never seen it this busy before.”
“Would you like to take a short break?”
his secretary asked while placing yet another stack of documents in front of him.
“Don’t ask if I want to rest while you’re handing me more work. It sounds like you’re trying to pressure me gently.”
“It’s not like I enjoy doing this either. If you can’t rest, then I can’t rest either.”
The secretary looked exhausted as well.
Dark shadows hung under his eyes like smudged ink, and his skin looked dry. His lips were cracked and pale.
Caleo looked at his secretary with sympathy and pressed his temples to fight off the fatigue.
“Let’s try to stay positive.”
“You’re right. It’s all for money and reputation, after all.”
Mana stone mining, setting up a new bank, preparing a pharmaceutical company for its stock market debut…
The Deiamor family was going through a painful kind of joy from one success after another.
“If I can just get through this busy season.”
If he could take care of the current workload, he would finally be able to breathe.
Thinking that, Caleo returned to the paperwork.
“By the way, where are the kids?”
His secretary had expected the question and was ready with an answer.
“They’re doing a rehearsal for presenting the mana stones with the madam.”
“Ah right. I still need to contact the palace about scheduling that properly.”
Caleo paused and opened a drawer.
“Here it is.”
He pulled out a letter he had written in advance.
“Nini is scared of swords. I need to ask them to keep the knights out of her sight on the day of the ceremony.”
“Do you think that’s possible?”
The secretary sounded doubtful.
“The imperial knights prioritize protecting the Emperor and the royal family. Even if the Saint herself requests it, I don’t think they’ll easily agree.”
“At the very least, they can make sure she doesn’t see them.”
“Then the young lady should return home right after the ceremony.”
“She will. I’m going to bring Deter with us that day.”
Deter was a maid personally chosen by Muniel.
Before Nivellia was even born, Deter had already been selected as her exclusive handmaid. She was originally a holy knight.
Muniel brought Deter and three other holy knights into the Deiamor family to serve as maids.
All four now stayed by Nivellia’s side.
Unlike the other staff, they followed only Muniel’s orders and not those of the head maid or the butler.
“Will just one maid be enough?”
The secretary, unaware of their true roles, was still concerned.
“It’s fine. We’re coming straight back after the ceremony anyway. If anything happens, her grandparents will take the children home.”
“That’s true.”
“What worries me more is Her Majesty, the Empress.”
Will she attend this year?
Caleo was more concerned about the Empress, who hadn’t appeared in public for a long time.
The secretary replied with a sympathetic voice.
“A wounded heart doesn’t heal easily. Her younger sister disappeared like that…”
“They still haven’t found her, right?”
“It’s been quite some time. Soon it will be…”
The secretary did a quick mental calculation.
“It’s been almost ten years now.”
“H-how do I look…?”
Aref asked nervously.
“Hmm…”
“Mmm…”
Nivellia and Soles rubbed their chins as they carefully looked over the clothes Aref was wearing.
He was dressed in a very expensive suit that had been custom-made not long ago.
On the day he was given the important role of presenting mana stones to the Emperor, Celletina had invited staff from a famous clothing shop to their estate.
She ordered new outfits for all the children.
Aref had started getting used to things like this, but this outfit felt completely new to him.
If the clothes could speak, they would probably say, “Even with your eyes closed, you can tell I am worn by a noble. Show me respect.”
That thought made Aref feel a little shy and uneasy.
“I think it suits me, but still…”
Even though he felt nervous, he had grown confident enough to admit that the outfit looked good on him.
His shorts and jacket were made from fine fabric that looked like it was cut from the night sky.
Underneath, he wore a white shirt with lace trim and a thick ribbon-shaped necktie.
He also had soft wool socks to match.
“I think this outfit works well.”
“Aref, you look so cool. Really!”
Just as expected, Soles and Nivellia smiled and told him he looked great.
They were also dressed in new clothes.
Soles wore a suit made from the same fabric as Aref’s.
The difference was that Soles wore long pants instead of shorts, and his shirt had no lace. His tie was a thin ribbon string.
Nivellia wore a dress made from the same material.
To keep her warm, the inside of her skirt had many thick lace layers. Thanks to that, the skirt puffed out nicely and looked elegant.
The children looked over at Muniel.
“Looks like the outfits are all set.”
Muniel had a proud smile on her face and agreed that they all looked wonderful.
The staff from the clothing shop quietly cheered inside.
“The Saint praised us…”
Muniel had once been a fashion leader, not just in the Dramenor Empire, but across the entire continent.
Even though she now lived a quiet life away from the spotlight, the styles she created when she was younger were still highly respected in the fashion world.
“You all did great. These are so well made, I have nothing to add.”
“Thank you. But it is because the young masters and young lady are so beautiful that the clothes look even better.”
“You know compliments like that won’t get you anything extra.”
“It is not just a compliment. We really mean it.”
Of course, they were happy to be praised.
And the truth was, the children of the Deiamor family were all very charming.
Each of them had their own special look.
The oldest, Soles, had a calm and kind appearance.
Nivellia had the sweet and innocent beauty of her age.
And Aref, with his sharp features and shy behavior, was endearing in his own way.
“These are gifts we made just for the three of them.”
“We would be honored if you would accept them.”
The staff gently brought out ribbon brooches.
The bows were a mix of white and blue, and in the center was a clear glass piece.
They explained that the glass could be removed and replaced with any gemstone or other decoration if desired.
Muniel’s eyes sparkled with interest.
“That’s a good idea. Will it be sold as a product?”
“Yes, that’s the plan.”
“Aha, so you’re using our children for promotion.”
Muniel saw right through their intention, but decided to let it slide.
The children, now wearing the ribbon brooches on their chests, had already promised to wear them when they visited the Imperial Palace.
“Let’s wear them here when we receive our award!”
Nivellia remembered the pure gold brooch she had been given when she saved Azel.
“That’s a great idea.”
“I want to wear that brooch too!”
Muniel spoke to the boutique staff.
“Looks like the new product is getting a good response.”
When she said it would be a success, the boutique staff bowed respectfully, honored by her words.
Nivellia practiced hard.
Even at the Tower’s kindergarten, she rehearsed with her friends.
“Is the mana stone mine really yours, Nini?”
“Yes. But I gave it to my mom and dad. So, it’s not mine anymore.”
Her friends thanked her on behalf of their parents.
“My mom was so happy when she heard about the mana stone mine. She told me to thank your family!”
“My dad too!”
“My grandma even jumped up and down, and she has bad knees!”
Hearing this, Nivellia gave a big smile.
“Say more nice things!”
While chatting and playing like that, Nivellia suddenly noticed something odd.
“Alec isn’t here.”
Alec, who used to pick fights out of jealousy over Nivellia’s closeness with the Tower Master, was nowhere to be seen.
“You’re right.”
“Why hasn’t he shown up yet?”
“Maybe he transferred to another school?”
The curious children asked their teacher.
The new teacher explained why Alec was absent.
“Alec won’t be coming for a while.”
“Why?”
“Use polite words with your teacher.”
“Why not, teacher?”
Nivellia quickly corrected her tone and asked again.
The teacher replied.
“He’s going on a trip with his family.”
Alec’s father.
The only son of the Tower Elder couple.
Right in front of Inerca, a rough travel bag was thrown to the floor.
“Even as your family, we can never forgive what you did. You betrayed both us and the Tower.”
“You shameful thing. Take that bag and get out!”
