The Female Lead of the Abusive Novel Can Hear My Heart's Voice - Chapter 29
“Shen Jin,” Xia Mucai frowned displeasedly.
Her whole day’s mood was ruined by this male livestreamer. She was about to push her cart away, keeping a distance from him.
But suddenly, her cart was grabbed and held back.
“Miss, don’t go! Add me on WeChat, and I’ll help take care of your business.”
Xia Mucai thought of this guy trying to touch the true form of her lucky cat, feeling disgusted to the extreme.
She said without mercy, “Take your filthy hands off, go pick up some shit you stink so bad.”
The man’s expression darkened, wanting to hit Xia Mucai, but he remembered he was still live streaming.
The barrage of comments floated by, “Oh wow, Brother Qi, this little sister is fierce, we can’t let Brother Qi get bullied. Everyone send gifts! Let Qi Ge show her some real power.”
Qi Cheng glanced at the comments and gave a sinister smile. To Xia Mucai, he seemed like a self-absorbed lunatic.
“Little brothers, thanks for the gifts! If I don’t win over this little sister today, I’m not a member of Qi’s army!”
The comments again wildly flooded with gifts.
Since Qi Cheng discovered this live streaming path, quite a few girls had been harassed by the streamer’s sidekick in his room. He annoyed those girls until they got tired and gave him their WeChat. Some of those girls had boyfriends, but he’d call them late at night, saying ambiguous things, causing breakups.
That wasn’t even the worst part. He pushed one girl into depression; she nearly died from wrist-cutting. Yet he was indifferent, doing whatever it took to make money.
All those girls were pretty, but he and his livestream audience ruined their lives.
Qi Cheng opened WeChat to scan the code, his face full of smugness. “Miss, I’ll give you a thousand, just add me on WeChat.”
He saw Xia Mucai completely indifferent and felt a bit frustrated. But since today’s livestream was going well, he was willing to offer more.
“Two thousand, is that enough?”
He was given a cold glare that made him uneasy he thought, today he’d met a tough nut to crack.
Changing tack, he asked, “Miss, do you have a boyfriend? How about me? I’m livestreaming, and my top donor is handsome and rich.”
“Idiot, piss off!” Xia Mucai didn’t want to waste words with a lunatic. She cracked her knuckles, the joints making sharp cracking sounds.
The man took no offense and propped one hand on her cart. “What are you selling? What’s in that box?”
Then, while Xia Mucai wasn’t paying attention, he swiftly opened the wooden box like a pickpocket.
Before she could stop him, Xia Mucai saw Qi Cheng’s eyes freeze.
Not only Qi Cheng, but the people on site and the livestream audience were all stunned.
Because the lucky cat shimmered with radiant colors something none of them had ever seen before. The divine lucky cat naturally drew everyone’s gaze.
With a “click,” Xia Mucai quickly slammed the box shut, her heart full of indescribable anger.
Her true form had been seen by so many, without her consent.
Only when the box closed did everyone snap back to reality.
A lucky cat that exuded such charm was no ordinary lucky cat. Qi Cheng blinked and pressed his hand down on the box Xia Mucai was trying to retract.
“How much for this lucky cat? I’ll give you two thousand, sell it to me.”
“I’m not selling!” Xia Mucai immediately refused, tugging at the box hard, but it wouldn’t budge.
She glared fiercely at the man and said sharply, “Let go!”
“Don’t be so heartless. My livestream family is waiting. I’ll give you six thousand just give me your WeChat and the lucky cat. You’ll make a guaranteed profit.”
The man spoke confidently, thinking six thousand was the most money Xia Mucai had ever seen, unaware that she could burn through a hundred thousand in two weeks.
That sum wouldn’t even cover her hotel stay. Not a rich person, just putting on airs.
“Let go! I said I’m not selling!”
For some reason, Xia Mucai saw the man’s sinister smile curl on his lips.
“Fine,” Qi Cheng said.
But soon, the wooden box was ripped open, and Xia Mucai’s lucky cat was snatched away.
With a harsh tearing sound, Xia Mucai’s mind went blank, like an old TV with a broken signal.
The man tossed the box on the ground, aimed his phone camera at the lucky cat, and started playing with it like a walnut.
He was proudly shouting, “Family, the lucky cat is mine now! Brothers who want it, send gifts!”
Completely ignoring the loud, almost heart-wrenching voice behind him yelling, “Give it back to me!”
Someone in the chat suggested, “Streamer, why not make the lucky cat a prize for a giveaway? Treat your fans.”
Seeing this, Qi Cheng agreed without hesitation, “Alright, let’s make it a fan benefit.”
Remember, he hadn’t paid a dime effectively he’d stolen it and was now flaunting it in front of its owner.
His shamelessness was thicker than a city wall.
Xia Mucai’s teeth chattered, veins bulging in her neck.
Anyone who had felt her slap knew she could make people doubt their own existence.
She was about to roll up her sleeves, but then spotted a familiar figure.
Like a balloon punctured by a needle, she instantly deflated.
Even the true form of her lucky cat ignored everything and fled, like it saw a ghost that would devour her.
Xia Chi only took a breath and watched Xia Mucai’s retreating figure.
“She’s really angry…”
Qi Cheng hadn’t realized what had happened when he looked up to see a woman staring at him with shadowed eyes.
Seeing Xia Chi’s face, he gasped.
Xia Chi was clearly a queen looking down on all, and the livestream chat paused for a moment before erupting into unprecedented screams.
“Sis, need a dog?”
Everyone was vying to be a “dog” for her, because Xia Chi’s cold expression was intimidating, keeping everyone at a distance.
She radiated a sense of world-weariness and defiance, her eyes icy and cold.
Qi Cheng was still thinking about what luck he had to meet two beauties in one day one dazzling, the other elegant.
Before he could react and try to ask Xia Chi for her WeChat, Xia Chi slapped him hard across the face.
The man fell to the ground, ears and nose bleeding.
Then she calmly squatted down and looked at the man.
Qi Cheng let out a miserable scream that was almost inhuman, causing the nearby onlookers to step back.
Xia Chi easily took the lucky cat from his hands and looked at his creepy smile.
He didn’t dare say a word, trembling, scared of another slap.
“Your filthy hands don’t deserve to touch this. You should be grateful my mood’s good today, or I’d have chopped your hand off.”
The next second, a crisp crack echoed the sound of a wrist breaking.
The pain was soul-crushing; he couldn’t even scream.
He kept exhaling cold air through his mouth.
Xia Chi’s cruel method of punishment made the crowd gasp in shock, holding their breath.
A short girl with a soft voice stepped forward to scold Xia Chi, “You’re going too far. Although he harassed that stall owner, you can’t use violence on him.”
Xia Chi glanced coldly at the girl, and just that look scared the girl into silence. She hesitated, then retreated into the crowd.
Everyone knew the girl was all talk she wouldn’t understand right or wrong unless misfortune struck her.
The crowd burst into applause, “Good, well done! This guy’s been annoying us for ages.”
Xia Chi hadn’t come to play hero. She just couldn’t stand seeing Xia Mucai bullied.
Unexpectedly, Xia Mucai didn’t even care about her own precious lucky cat.
Her heart ached with bitterness Xia Mucai really hated her…
“You…” Qi Cheng pointed at her, “Just wait.”
Xia Chi thought he was going to say something more, but saw him scramble away holding his broken phone.
Scaring away two people in a row didn’t make Xia Chi happy.
She didn’t care about his threat. What bothered her was Xia Mucai running away at the sight of her.
She had told her parents she’d just look at Xia Mucai and then leave, but now she wanted more.
People are greedy. She wasn’t satisfied and at least wanted to apologize to Xia Mucai.
Xia Mucai ran a street’s distance away, clutching her chest, gasping.
Her face was pale, murmuring, “Xia Chi came looking for me to settle scores.”
She thought once she escaped this far from Jiangcheng, Xia Chi wouldn’t find her.
She hoped to live a peaceful life for a while but never expected Xia Chi to suddenly appear.
What could she do now? She had little money, and her true form was still in that man’s hands.
Her fingers pressed so hard against the wall, she almost peeled the paint off.
While she was catching her breath, Xia Chi had already been following from afar.
Seeing Xia Mucai lean on the wall in pain, Xia Chi felt bad inside.
Her heart was torn should she apologize now, or wait for a better time?
Soon she noticed Xia Mucai rested and then turned back to the small street stall.
Xia Chi didn’t dare disturb the little cat and only followed quietly.
She muttered what she thought, “Is Xia Mucai coming back to find me?”
If so, her heart would be so warm. She would hug Xia Mucai and never let her leave again.
Should she go back and wait, waiting for Xia Mucai to come?
Looking at the lucky cat in her hand, Xia Chi smiled sweetly.
“Perfect timing to return it and stop her from being angry.”
Like fireworks exploding, she returned much faster than Xia Mucai and soon arrived at the stall where the man was hit.
When Xia Mucai came back, she saw Xia Chi standing straight there, holding her true form.
Seeing that figure, she nearly got scared off again.
Puzzled, she asked, “Xia Chi, why are you still here?”
Now she was scared of Xia Chi, wondering, “Is she standing here waiting to kill me?”
Cold sweat broke out on her back, heart racing like it would jump out of her throat.
Noticing Xia Chi move, Xia Mucai was rooted to the spot, unable to run.
She stood there dumbfounded, quietly muttering, “Don’t look back, don’t look back…”
It was like a horror game level, with Xia Chi as the final boss.
“Xia Mucai…” Xia Chi suppressed a smile and called her name.
But to Xia Mucai, Xia Chi’s face was dark and cold.
It felt like she had come to settle a score.
No time to think, Xia Mucai ran instinctively.
“Xia Mucai!”
The voice behind her was urgent, but she didn’t listen and plugged her ears.
She was scared of dying, not wanting to die at Xia Chi’s hands right now.
But she hadn’t run far when Xia Chi grabbed her hand.
Her mind raced through many ways she might die beheaded, beaten to death, taken to a secluded place and tortured bit by bit…
Just thinking about it made Xia Mucai tremble all over, squeezing out words one by one,
“Let go of me.”
“Xia Mucai… I…”
“Xia Chi, let go! I won’t go back with you.”
Xia Chi felt like a knife stabbed her chest a dull pain even she, who never feared pain, could feel.
She couldn’t bear to let go.
“Xia Mucai, listen…”
Before the word “I” came out, Xia Mucai interrupted.
Seeing Xia Mucai shake with anger at just the sight of her, she knew she was anxious.
“Let go!” Xia Mucai said loudly, head down.
“You…”
Near the barbecue stall, the line of people had thinned.
Seeing the girl being bullied, a burly man rolled up his sleeves and strode over.
He pointed at Xia Chi and shouted in a rough voice, “Hey, what are you doing? She said let go! Don’t you understand?”
Xia Mucai lifted her head. There were still people who stood up for justice.
Her heart, which had been hanging by a thread, relaxed at that shout.
The burly man had big arms and legs and looked very strong. He pushed Xia Chi’s shoulder.
“I’m telling you, I saw you hitting someone. We live in a society ruled by law. If you keep harassing this girl, I’m calling the police.”
Xia Chi released Xia Mucai’s hand, staggering back a step, her frown deeper than a bitter melon.
“Xia Mucai really hates her…”
