The Female Lead of the Abusive Novel Can Hear My Heart's Voice - Chapter 17
“Finally managed to send Xia Chi back to her room,” Xia Mucai stared at the white ceiling, gasping heavily.
Her frail body had just carried Xia Chi who weighed as much as a normal woman back to the room. It was extremely difficult for her. Now her arms ached with no strength to lift, and her legs felt limp and soft. One could imagine that when she got up from the bed, it felt like stepping on cotton.
She couldn’t help but sigh, “So tired,” forgetting that beside her lay a drugged and drowsy woman.
Lying on the soft bed, she nearly drifted off to sleep.
Suddenly, an icy cold hand touched her waist on one side, like an ice cube slid into her neck, freezing her and causing her to shiver.
The chilling cold instantly woke her up; all drowsiness vanished.
Xia Mucai rolled over, eyes wide open, confused, looking at Xia Chi struggling to sit up.
“Hot…”
“So hot…”
“Xia Mucai… so hot…”
Xia Chi, like Sadako (the ghost from the ring), supported herself with one hand and stretched the other towards her.
Her attention was entirely on the side of her waist Xia Chi had just touched, completely unaware that Xia Chi had grabbed her wrist.
Frozen again, Xia Mucai quickly snapped back to reality and anxiously said, “Xia Chi, I’ll go get you a basin of cold water.”
She tried to get up but forgot her wrist was caught by Xia Chi, who pulled her back with great strength. Xia Mucai stumbled and fell onto the bed.
Xia Chi flipped over and pinned her to the bed.
Their noses almost touched; their hot breaths mingled. Xia Mucai blinked, her eyelashes nearly brushing Xia Chi’s eyelids.
Unconsciously, her throat moved, and the taste between her lips was the sweet scent of Xia Chi’s breath.
Unbeknownst to her, her scent was also on Xia Chi’s lips a strawberry candy flavor.
Xia Chi deliberately stuck out her tongue, licking the corner of her mouth as if savoring a delicious treat, ready to feast.
As if saying, “I’m about to start.”
Xia Mucai’s heart pounded so fast it almost leapt from her throat; her breathing grew rapid.
She looked at her wrists pinned to both sides, struggling in vain, only tightening the restraint.
At that moment, panic struck her.
No one had ever done this to her pinning her down on the bed, unable to move…
“Xia Chi, wake up! I’ll get you the basin of cold water. You can’t cool down by lying on me…”
Before she could finish her sentence, her lips were touched by something soft.
Soft as eaten cotton candy, the sweetness melted in her mouth, gently prying open her lips.
Sweetness kept flowing like syrup.
Then the tip of the nose, sticky with cotton candy threads, sugar syrup stretched and pulled away.
Then the left eye…
Then the right eye…
Xia Mucai arched her waist, struggled in midair, and finally collapsed heavily onto the bed.
Her eyes were misty, mouth open wide to breathe, chest heaving intensely.
Like she had just run a marathon.
Sweat drenched her hair and clothes.
The white light above made Xia Chi’s figure hazy, her face obscured by hair.
In a black evening gown, Xia Chi looked like the mysterious witch in a story both enigmatic and terrifying.
Her flat stomach bore the weight, as Xia Chi straddled her abdomen.
What was to come terrified Xia Mucai her nose twitched twice, and tears blurred her misty eyes.
This was a silent plea for Xia Chi to spare her.
Xia Chi felt reluctant to see Xia Mucai cry, and she hadn’t intended to swallow a big fatty whole.
She spared Xia Mucai.
Xia Mucai should be grateful that no real drug was involved, or this would never have ended so easily.
The main course hadn’t even arrived; she’d just eaten the appetizer.
But next time wouldn’t end so simply.
Xia Chi licked the remaining sweetness from the corner of her lips, curling them into a smile.
Soon, Xia Mucai saw the figure still sitting on her abdomen sway and suddenly collapse onto the bed.
Before she could react, she blinked her teary eyes and propped herself up, looking at Xia Chi, who buried her head into the pillow, sleeping like a dead fish.
Was she saved?
Had Xia Chi’s drug worn off?
Her mind was still foggy, blank.
She felt like a rescued lamb quietly watching the gray wolf who spared her life.
Little did she know, this gray wolf could get up anytime and eat her again.
Suddenly, a “knock knock knock” sounded outside the door, followed by Xia Mu’s anxious voice: “Xia Chi, Caicai, are you in the room?”
For a long moment, there was no reply.
Xia Mu glanced at those around her and smiled awkwardly, “You High family boys are talking nonsense. No matter what happens to my daughter, nothing bad would happen.”
“But you, rushing here, organizing people, saying my Caicai and Xia Chi are having an affair you have evil intentions.”
Gao Jinghuan’s expression was calm but looked somewhat ill.
He had just woken up in the corridor, looked around, and remembered the last person he saw was Xia Mucai.
That woman had hit him, snatched his goddess away, and in fate, he wanted to send Xia Chi to her room to have relations with her, but was intercepted.
His woman was taken by someone else.
So he summoned everyone to expose their illicit relationship!
“Mrs. Xia, just open the door and see for yourself,” Gao Jinghuan said confidently, acting as if he had already won.
Everyone else was eager to watch the drama unfold, begging the only woman present, Mrs. Xia, to open her daughter’s room to prove it.
Only Teng Jingsi, silent and frowning, knew it didn’t matter he only knew Xia Chi had humiliated him again.
Mrs. Xia was constrained by face but wasn’t without temper, especially when it involved her precious adopted daughter Xia Mucai. The maternal love made her strong.
“Open the door, but if there’s no affair as Gao Jinghuan claims, I want you to kneel and apologize to my daughter, and the Gao family must compensate her!”
Everyone gasped.
Some whispered, “That’s the Gao family. They have pride. To kneel before her daughter and apologize? Might as well die.”
“Mrs. Xia is ruthless,” someone praised, thumbs up, “That’s what it means to be a mother.”
Mrs. Xia’s love was genuine. A selfish mother would have grabbed the opportunity to get compensation for the family, not just her daughter.
“Open the door, madam,” Gao Jinghuan was confident, knowing in fate Xia Chi was drugged to have relations with him, but someone interrupted, so Xia Chi’s partner wasn’t him.
Everyone heard Mrs. Xia’s gritted, furious “Okay.”
Tens of people held their breath, staring at Mrs. Xia’s trembling hand as she opened the door.
The room was lit like daytime, revealing its layout clearly one big bed, a wardrobe, and no other decoration.
On the bed lay two women, fully dressed, shoes on, sleeping soundly.
This was far from Gao Jinghuan’s claim of illicit affairs. Affairs required lights on, separate beds.
Clearly not.
Everyone stared at Gao Jinghuan as if he were crazy.
The door clicked softly closed.
Mrs. Xia breathed out, no longer anxious or uneasy, only furious at those who slandered her daughter.
“Gao Jinghuan, I’ll tell the Gao family about this. Choose a good day to come apologize on your knees to my Caicai.”
With a loud “clatter,” Gao Jinghuan stepped back, dumbfounded, his eyes no longer bright.
He didn’t even know why he believed the fate thing.
“It’s impossible, Xia Chi was drugged, how come she didn’t seek relief but just lay there sleeping,” Gao Jinghuan muttered, sounding like he’d lost his mind.
Someone advised, “Mrs. Xia, please call Gao’s son’s older brother to come get him. They say when Gao’s son was found, he was filthy like he’d rolled in garbage, probably mentally unstable.”
Mrs. Xia agreed without hesitation.
After the crowd left and the noise ceased, Xia Mucai got up from the bed.
She looked at the “sleeping” Xia Chi, thinking, [She probably doesn’t remember today’s events.]
Only now did she realize she had actually changed the plot.
“So unfortunate.”
She sat on the bed, lowered her head, pinched her eyebrows, closed her eyes, and whispered, “This is the last time I’ll help you. I can’t keep doing this.”
Unbeknownst to her, her body, riddled with holes, was slowly healing at a nearly imperceptible speed.
If she noticed, she’d doubt if her mission was really to ruin a poor heroine’s life.
Casting a glance at the still sleeping girl, she felt helpless and heartbroken, wanting to save her but powerless.
She lowered her pinching hand, tiptoed to the foot of the bed, and took off Xia Chi’s shoes and socks.
Thinking Xia Chi’s head buried in the pillow was uncomfortable, she flipped her over.
At least let her head rest on the pillow.
She gently lifted Xia Chi by the armpits and pulled her to lie flat on the pillow.
Perfect Xia Chi was now in a standard supine sleeping position.
Xia Mucai exhaled a cloudy breath and wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.
The ordeal had left her panting.
After wiping the sweat, she put her hands on her waist and glanced at the sleeping Xia Chi.
“Sleep well, Xia Chi.”
Bathed in light, Xia Chi’s face was pure and flawless, like a beautiful doll.
Xia Mucai wanted to reach out to touch that face but suddenly recalled their kissing scene.
Her fingertips felt like they were electrified and pulled back.
Not knowing that Xia Chi had been drugged was fortunate it could be explained that Xia Chi forced her into that.
But the drug was just administered by her own hand.
She really was bringing this on herself.
Xia Mucai fled like an escapee, straightening the blanket for Xia Chi before leaving.
Back in her own room, she closed the door, legs weak, sitting on the floor, trembling as she covered her heart.
Today’s events were to be kept buried in her heart.
She had sent Xia Chi back to her room, and she came out. The kiss never happened.
