The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 43
After Lin Wan woke up from another nap, she noticed it was already dark outside.
Her cold symptoms had improved significantly.
There was no sign of Bai Yin beside her, so Lin Wan got up and stepped out of the room. As soon as she pushed the door open, the sound of a car horn echoed from the courtyard.
Bai Yin, seated in her wheelchair, was slowly descending from the ramp the driver had set up against the car.
Had Bai Yin gone out?
Thankfully, she had returned safely.
Lin Wan couldn’t help but smile.
Outside, snow had begun to fall at some point. Amid the swirling snowflakes, Bai Yin seemed to sense something and suddenly lifted her gaze, meeting Lin Wan’s eyes.
Dressed in a down jacket with a fur-lined hood, Bai Yin’s delicate face, illuminated by the soft courtyard lights, appeared exquisitely carved from ice and snow.
Bai Yin’s eyes, initially devoid of emotion, curved slightly upon seeing Lin Wan. Though she didn’t speak, a faint trace of warmth gradually surfaced in her gaze.
Lin Wan’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
She didn’t know why, but she suddenly felt an urge to capture this moment in a photograph. One she would keep to herself, never sharing it with anyone.
It took a while for the inexplicable flutter in her chest to subside, and by then, Bai Yin had already made her way upstairs.
“I thought about it and decided to visit the cemetery earlier,” Bai Yin said as she entered the room, switching to another wheelchair and removing her down jacket. Before Lin Wan could ask, she volunteered the information. “You were still asleep, so I didn’t wake you.”
“Next year, I’ll take you with me.” Bai Yin’s eyes still held that faint, captivating smile that made Lin Wan’s heart tremble.
Lin Wan responded with a soft “Mm,” feeling strangely peculiar. The heat in her cheeks refused to fade, and she couldn’t bring herself to look at Bai Yin again, lowering her gaze with a blush.
“Are you feeling unwell?”
Lin Wan didn’t want Bai Yin to see through her emotions, but her unusual behavior was too obvious. Bai Yin moved closer and used a forehead thermometer to check her temperature again.
“No fever,” Bai Yin said, setting the thermometer aside with a slight frown, clearly still concerned.
“I’m just too warm,” Lin Wan mumbled, her cheeks growing even redder under Bai Yin’s attentive care. Her heartbeat quickened again, and she could only offer a vague excuse. “I’ll be fine after a moment.”
As she spoke, she avoided meeting Bai Yin’s gaze.
She could feel Bai Yin’s eyes lingering on her, as if pondering something. For a moment, Lin Wan even felt as though she had been completely seen through. She forced herself to act normal, gazing out the window at the scenery, but her cheeks only grew hotter.
Before long, however, Bai Yin let out a soft “Mm,” seemingly dropping the subject. She leaned in, smiling, and took Lin Wan’s hand.
“Wanwan, I’m not used to wearing sweaters. Could you help me take this off?”
Lin Wan murmured an agreement and glanced at Bai Yin, only to realize that beneath her off-the-shoulder sweater, Bai Yin was wearing nothing but a sequined spaghetti-strap dress. Her eyes widened in surprise.
Lately, for some reason, Bai Yin’s outfits had become increasingly mature. Lin Wan didn’t want to interfere with Bai Yin’s style. After all, in her eyes, Bai Yin looked good in anything. But seeing Bai Yin dressed so lightly, Lin Wan couldn’t hold back her concern.
“Yin Yin, you’re wearing far too little,” Lin Wan said, her voice softening as she met Bai Yin’s thoughtful gaze. She instinctively pulled her neck in slightly, reaching out to grasp the collar of Bai Yin’s sweater to help her take it off. “Even though your down jacket is good quality, you still need to be careful. In this kind of weather, catching a cold would be miserable.”
“I used to hate wearing thermal underwear too, but after trying it, I realized how warm it really is.”
Bai Yin remained silent.
After removing the sweater and looking up, Lin Wan found Bai Yin staring directly at her. Bai Yin’s hair was damp with melted snow, clinging slightly to her face. Her eyes seemed veiled in an indescribable haze, her lips crimson like blood, and the lines of her shoulders and neck were flawlessly elegant. Further down, the delicate, pale curve of her cleavage was visible, and her slip dress outlined the perfect contours of her figure.
Bai Yin in this state was utterly bewitching, like a seductive fox spirit!
Something seemed to explode in Lin Wan’s mind. Her throat went dry, and she instantly forgot what she had meant to say next.
Only then did she truly realize that, aside from being someone she needed to care for, Bai Yin was also a mature, captivating woman around her own age.
Lin Wan swallowed hard, finally regaining her composure, and hastily grabbed a set of loungewear to slip onto Bai Yin. “N-next time, you really can’t wear so little…”
Bai Yin didn’t respond.
Instead, she narrowed her eyes, gazing intently at Lin Wan. Even though Bai Yin was now covered in loungewear, revealing no skin, Lin Wan inexplicably felt that she was even more alluring than when she had been wearing the slip dress.
She must have noticed something.
Lin Wan lowered her head, overwhelmed with shame. She had always considered Bai Yin a good friend, yet just moments ago, she had been swayed by desire and entertained lustful thoughts about her.
Putting herself in Bai Yin’s shoes. If Bai Yin had ever harbored such intentions toward her, Lin Wan realized, to her dismay, that she wouldn’t be able to resist at all.
But that was absolutely impossible!
Lin Wan blinked, quickly dismissing such dangerous thoughts. Bai Yin was so pure and kind. How could she ever covet her?
It must be her own corrupt mind!
As Lin Wan was deeply immersed in self-reproach, she heard Bai Yin chuckle softly beside her.
Lin Wan couldn’t help but glance over again.
Bai Yin’s expression was lazy yet full of charm, her gaze carrying a mix of affection and something unspoken. Meeting Lin Wan’s evasive eyes, Bai Yin’s smile deepened.
She sighed softly, raising a hand to stroke Lin Wan’s tomato-red cheek. Even though Bai Yin was physically lower, Lin Wan inexplicably felt as if she were the one being looked down upon.
“Wanwan, in a few days, you’ll be taking private photos of me.”
“If you’re this shy now, how will you handle it then?”
Lin Wan felt that Bai Yin was underestimating her!
That night, she took her medicine, slept soundly, and by the next morning, she was once again full of energy and vitality.
The news about the Bai Group was still being broadcast on television, making it clear that the crisis the company was facing could no longer be concealed. Negative reports kept emerging, and journalists had captured images of Bai Jian at the company. His face etched with unmistakable exhaustion, a far cry from his former confident and spirited demeanor. It was evident he was utterly worn out.
The male lead, Shen Shen, was also affected by the incident. His company, once the most promising emerging enterprise in the industry, was forced to sell off some of its shares to repay debts. By the time he realized what was happening, his shareholding had been surpassed by a mysterious newcomer, costing him his position as chairman of the board.
In stark contrast, Bai Yin’s luck value suddenly soared to “85%.”
Lin Wan could only sigh in amazement: the small world’s favoritism toward Bai Yin was just too obvious!
Even though the plan to harm Bai Yin had failed, the Bai family was now at their most desperate. Fearing they might resort to extreme measures in their desperation, Lin Wan didn’t dare let her guard down. She had to postpone her plans to go abroad to seek medical treatment for Bai Yin, keeping a close watch on her every single day.
At the same time, although Bai Yin didn’t seem particularly anxious, she had brought up the idea of taking boudoir photos several times over the past few days.
Lin Wan had been brushing her off with the excuse of lacking inspiration.
In the past, Lin Wan had always been confident in herself, but these days she was extremely flustered: she was afraid that while photographing Bai Yin, she would once again feel that stirring of desire. She didn’t want to incur Bai Yin’s disgust.
In Lin Wan’s world, technology and social attitudes were more advanced. People of all sexual orientations could marry, and even those who chose not to wed faced no judgment from others, thanks to a well-established pension system that secured their later years.
Although this world was somewhat tolerant of same-sex marriage, it was still a minority practice.
Lin Wan had always been dedicated to her research and had never given much thought to love or marriage. Deep down, she felt that someone as reclusive as her would likely devote her life to work, destined to remain single until old age. She never expected that in another world, she would develop such intense feelings for her mission target.
Perhaps it was because she had lived too sheltered a life, suppressing her desires for so long, that now they surged out uncontrollably.
So, while learning photography and taking daily photos of Bai Yin, Lin Wan started looking at various sensual photos of beautiful women, hoping to desensitize herself and stay calm during the boudoir shoot.
But no matter how stunning these photos were, they didn’t evoke the same nervousness she felt around Bai Yin.
Even though Bai Yin’s attire these days was far more conservative than the images online, there was an undeniable sensuality about her that made Lin Wan’s blood race. As a result, Lin Wan often felt inexplicably guilty and increasingly remorseful whenever she was near Bai Yin.
To make matters worse, the social media account she managed for Bai Yin had hit a plateau. For some reason, a wave of sour comments flooded in, claiming that Bai Yin’s photos were all filters and heavy editing, and that she must look completely different in real life since she never went live.
Lin Wan didn’t want Bai Yin to start live streaming, nor did she want others to slander her. After thinking for several days, Lin Wan finally came up with an idea: she would have Bai Yin imitate classic characters from films and TV shows in videos. This would not only showcase Bai Yin’s flawless beauty but also highlight her acting skills, potentially attracting directors and helping Bai Yin achieve her dreams.
With this in mind, Lin Wan began browsing short video platforms for clips of such imitations.
She secretly selected a few popular video segments, bought the necessary props, and finally had a plan in place.
“Wanwan, it’s time to eat.”
It was already noon, and Sister Zhang had brought up their lunch.
During this period, Lin Wan had been eating with Bai Yin every day. Initially, Lin Wan thought Sister Zhang and Butler Zhao might object, but to her surprise, they seemed perfectly fine with it and never raised any complaints.
So, Lin Wan stopped worrying about it. As she watched Bai Yin eat each day, she noticed something peculiar: Bai Yin had a habit of snatching food from her bowl. At first, Lin Wan was taken aback, but over time, she grew accustomed to it.
These days, Bai Yin’s appetite had improved slightly, and she looked healthier, much better than her previous pale and frail appearance. 🙂
“Coming right away,” Lin Wan replied, but she continued browsing and eventually purchased some online video editing tutorials.
As soon as she placed the order, a text message popped up.
“Thrilling and exciting content awaits at *** website.”
Thinking it was a link to the video tutorials she had just bought, Lin Wan clicked on it without a second thought.
To her shock, the screen displayed an image that nearly made her drop her phone: a girl kneeling on the screen, dressed in extremely revealing clothing that barely covered anything, with visible red marks on her body.
Lin Wan’s eyes widened as she realized she had accidentally clicked on an inappropriate website.
The girl on the screen gazed seductively at the camera, cooing in a sweet, flirtatious voice, “Brother…”
Lin Wan hadn’t muted the sound, and the word “Brother” echoed clearly in the room.
Startled, she frantically turned down the volume. Though the sound was off, for some reason, she couldn’t exit the website.
Flustered and anxious, Lin Wan was about to shut down her phone when a hand suddenly reached over and snatched it from her.
“So, Wanwan likes this kind of thing?”
Lin Wan met Bai Yin’s gaze.
Bai Yin looked up from the screen, raising an eyebrow slightly as she stared at Lin Wan. Though she wore a smile, there was no warmth in her eyes.
“Lately, Wanwan keeps saying she has no inspiration and keeps postponing our photo shoots.”
“Could it be that Wanwan is afraid I can’t pull off this style?”
Bai Yin let out a soft laugh and slowly leaned closer to Lin Wan, whose face was as red as a tomato and who wished she could vanish into the ground. “Actually, Wanwan, whatever style you want to shoot, I can do it.”
Her eyes grew darker, but her voice became even more alluring. She tilted her head slightly, pressing close to Lin Wan’s ear, mimicking the girl on the screen with a husky, breathy whisper.
“Sister…”
