The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 20
Lin Wan suddenly noticed that the zipper at the back of Bai Yin’s swimsuit had been left undone all this time.
With her delicate shoulders half-exposed and her eyes rimmed red, Bai Yin looked truly.
At that moment, the word “temptation” flashed through Lin Wan’s mind.
She hadn’t thought much of it at first, but combined with Bai Yin’s current expression perhaps blushing was contagious. Lin Wan’s cheeks also grew warm.
For some reason, she felt inexplicably nervous, not daring to meet Bai Yin’s gaze. Instead, she lowered her eyes to Bai Yin’s back.
“The zipper got stuck. I lost my balance while trying to pull it up,” Bai Yin explained softly, her voice small as she recounted how she had fallen.
But Lin Wan was only half-listening.
Bai Yin’s skin was like flawless jade, the delicate contours of her shoulder blades tracing a perfect arc. The elegant lines resembled rolling mountain ridges, descending along her spine, half-hidden yet utterly mesmerizing.
Lin Wan suddenly felt her mouth go dry. Stunned for a moment, she belatedly reached out to pull up the zipper.
It was still stuck, and Lin Wan, afraid of breaking it, had to try several times before finally succeeding.
As she helped Bai Yin stand, she noticed a shocking scar about ten centimeters long on Bai Yin’s thigh.
Lin Wan hadn’t witnessed the car accident back then, but the jagged scar was proof enough of how brutal it must have been.
Any trace of shyness vanished in an instant, replaced by overwhelming heartache. Lin Wan’s resolve to take care of Bai Yin grew even stronger.
When she looked up at Bai Yin, she realized that the other girl stood half a head taller than her.
Honestly, Bai Yin’s figure was incredible.
Lin Wan’s gaze lingered unconsciously on a certain area, baffled as to how someone so slender could be so generously endowed there.
The moment she realized what she was thinking, Lin Wan was overcome with shame at her own indecent thoughts, her cheeks burning again.
“Miss, you need to eat more and put on some weight!”
Taking a deep breath, Lin Wan reminded herself of her original goal and steeled her expression, determined to find flaws in Bai Yin’s figure. “Look at your waist! It’s so thin I could wrap both hands around it.”
“Really?”
“Then why don’t you try?”
But Bai Yin seemed to see right through her, refusing to play along. Instead, she arched a brow and smiled at Lin Wan, eyes gleaming with amusement.
Lin Wan hadn’t expected Bai Yin to counter like this and blinked in surprise.
There was no way she’d actually do it. Bai Yin knew she wouldn’t dare.
But Lin Wan refused to be outmaneuvered by this little white rabbit. A sudden idea struck her.
Shifting tactics, she took advantage of Bai Yin’s momentary distraction and scooped her up in her arms!
Bai Yin’s smile froze instantly. She stared at Lin Wan, wide-eyed, before her gaze flickered away and she lowered her head, as if suddenly shy.
Lin Wan let out a quiet hiss, steadying herself before standing firm, trying her best to appear nonchalant. Glancing down at Bai Yin, who seemed to be hiding her face, Lin Wan delivered her carefully prepared line: “Tsk! Light as a feather!”
Lin Wan was lying again.
Bai Yin wasn’t heavy, but she was slightly heavier than Lin Wan had expected. Holding her required considerable effort.
It was only now, carrying Bai Yin, that Lin Wan realized something: despite her slim frame, Bai Yin’s body was perfectly proportioned, her skin smooth and naturally radiant. She didn’t have the soft, flabby look of someone who had been bedridden for long. Instead, she seemed like someone who exercised regularly.
But upon closer reflection, it wasn’t all that surprising: Bai Yin had strong personal boundaries and spent long hours each day out of everyone’s sight. Perhaps, in places no one could see, she had been persistently undergoing rehabilitation, exhausting every method to maintain her condition, unwilling to let others witness her in a disheveled state.
Lin Wan’s heart swelled with emotion for a moment: Bai Yin’s stubborn determination to work hard in secret was truly endearing beyond words.
At present, Lin Wan wasn’t entirely sure just how severe the injury to Bai Yin’s legs was, but they didn’t appear to be in such bad shape. Given how much Bai Yin cared about her legs, was there really no hope left for recovery?
……
While silently resolving to pay closer attention to Bai Yin’s legs in the future and gather relevant medical information, Lin Wan gently placed Bai Yin into the bathtub.
Ever since Lin Wan had picked her up, Bai Yin had grown unusually quiet, her eyes downcast, her ears tinged with red; looking both pitiable and adorable.
It was the first time Lin Wan had seen Bai Yin like this.
Such a delicate and lovable girl, if left unprotected, would likely be devoured without a trace by the wolves that were her stepmother and stepsister.
Lin Wan sighed inwardly, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing heavily on her shoulders.
“Miss, I’ll stay here with you.”
Lin Wan softened her voice, gazing into Bai Yin’s eyes.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep my back turned to you. I won’t turn around unless you say so. I promise I won’t peek.”
Lin Wan was genuinely afraid Bai Yin might have another accident, but she also worried the proud young lady might out of shyness ask her to leave again. So, she decided to act first and explain later, turning her back decisively after speaking, making it clear she had no intention of stepping out.
“Alright.”
To her surprise, Bai Yin agreed without hesitation.
Lin Wan was quietly astonished when she heard Bai Yin speak again in a voice that seemed slightly lower than usual.
“You might want to adjust your collar?”
?
Lin Wan looked down and instantly flushed.
Her swimsuit had a rather wide neckline, and while outdoors she would usually pin it in place, but since she was indoors with Bai Yin, she hadn’t bothered.
Now, with Bai Yin’s reminder, she realized a significant portion of her chest had been exposed.
The collar must have slipped when she was carrying Bai Yin.
No wonder Bai Yin had kept her eyes downcast afterward, not daring to look at her.
Lin Wan quickly pulled up her collar. Initially, she thought it wasn’t a big deal between two girls, but for some reason, recalling Bai Yin’s earlier demeanor left her feeling inexplicably strange, the heat in her cheeks lingering far longer than expected.

The midday banquet had been for guests from all around, but by evening, far fewer people remained. Mostly Li Pei’s close friends and relatives.
Mingling among them, Lin Wan listened to the gossip from Li Pei’s hometown and finally pieced together the relationships of the older generation.
As it turned out, Li Ruyue, Bai Jian, and Li Pei had known each other since childhood. During middle school, Li Ruyue had visited a classmate’s hometown and met Bai Jian and Li Pei in the village.
The villagers still reminisced fondly about those days. They had never seen someone as refined as Li Ruyue before, someone who traveled with bodyguards and maids, wearing fresh outfits every day without repetition.
Meanwhile, Li Pei had been the daughter of the poorest family in the village.
The seeds of certain events had been sown long ago.
Li Ruyue was generous, gifting everyone with snacks and toys they had never seen before, and everyone was happy to follow her around.
Li Pei was also one of them. At first, she had a particularly good relationship with Li Ruyue.
Li Pei took a liking to one of Li Ruyue’s dresses, but she couldn’t afford it herself. So, under the cover of night, she stole the dress. The next day, she deliberately wore it in front of their friends, boasting that her grandmother had bought it for her in the city.
The villagers didn’t know about limited-edition items and believed Li Pei’s story, admiring how beautiful the dress was. But when Li Ruyue noticed a certain detail on the dress, her eyes widened.
“Isn’t this the dress I lost yesterday?”
“I accidentally got a dot of paint on the waist while painting, so I asked Auntie Wang to throw it away.”
With that, Li Ruyue looked at Li Pei apologetically. “If you like it, I’ll buy you a new one. But I’ll need to check, this dress was a gift from my aunt, and she said it was a limited edition. I’m not sure if they still have it.”
Once Li Ruyue said this, everyone immediately understood the dress’s true origin. They burst into laughter.
Li Pei’s face turned pale with humiliation, and from then on, she never showed herself in front of Li Ruyue again.
Later, someone from the village found the dress cut into pieces in the foul ditch outside her house.
“Who would’ve thought she’d be so glamorous now!”
Watching Li Pei mingling with guests, her fellow villagers couldn’t help but whisper among themselves, “She still ended up wearing Li Ruyue’s dress after all.”
Though Li Pei had invited them, it was mainly to flaunt her current success. The entire evening had passed without her even offering them a single toast, leaving the villagers deeply dissatisfied.
Lin Wan had heard enough gossip and turned to give Bai Yin a meaningful glance: No wonder Li Pei is so vicious, dead set on destroying Li Ruyue and her daughter. The seeds of resentment were planted long ago.
She had deliberately brought Bai Yin to eavesdrop from this spot, hoping to reveal Li Pei’s true nature and stop Bai Yin from blindly trusting her.
But Bai Yin, ever the kind-hearted heroine, even with the truth laid bare before her, still chose to see the best in others.
“Aunt Li has been busy all night. It’s normal if she overlooked some things.”
“Wait here for me. I’ll go remind her.” Bai Yin gave Lin Wan a deep look, handing her the fruit plate and gesturing for her to add some grapes.
By the time Lin Wan returned with the grapes, Bai Yin had already wheeled herself over to Li Pei’s side.
Whatever she said to Li Pei, the woman turned around but instead of coming over to toast, she pushed Bai Yin’s wheelchair, and the two of them left together, laughing.
Lin Wan’s alarm bells went off. Just as she was about to follow, Bai Ru suddenly appeared from the side, pulling her aside.
“I’ll keep it short. My mom deliberately distracted her. You only have ten minutes, we’ll disable the surveillance.”
Torn between worrying about Bai Yin and needing to hear Bai Ru’s harmful plan to prepare, Lin Wan forced herself to listen. By the time the plan was finally laid out and she looked back toward the entrance, Bai Yin was nowhere to be seen.
