The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 17
While Lin Wan was staring at Bai Ru, the gazes of everyone else were glued to Bai Yin.
Unlike her usual casual home dresses, Bai Yin was dressed slightly more formally today. She wore a light blue floral dress, her long hair tied up in a braid that cascaded down her back, making her appear even more ethereal and delicate, like a woodland sprite.
There was no need to mention Li Pei and her daughter. Though they maintained normal expressions on their faces, they were desperately hoping to see Bai Yin break down. With her mother gone, her fiancé stolen, and herself paralyzed, even the most well-bred young lady would find it hard to remain composed in such a situation.
Meanwhile, from the moment he laid eyes on Bai Yin, the male lead, Shen Shen, couldn’t tear his gaze away from her.
As the male lead recognized by the world’s consciousness, he and Bai Yin were destined lovers, sharing a chemistry that ordinary people couldn’t comprehend.
Although they were engaged, Shen Shen had only met Bai Yin a few times years ago. Back then, Bai Yin had been like a beautiful puppet, obediently following her parents’ arrangements, stunning but devoid of spirit.
He had tried to invite her out a few times afterward, but Bai Yin always found excuses to decline. Not wanting to push his luck, he eventually gave up.
Recently, when the Bai family mentioned that Bai Yin had gone mad and needed to be replaced as the marriage candidate, he didn’t mind. There had never been much affection between them anyway, and as long as it didn’t affect the relationship between their families, it was fine. So, Shen Shen allowed the Bai family to switch the engagement to Bai Ru.
At first, he had been quite satisfied with Bai Ru. She was pretty and considerate, greatly boosting his ego.
But “pretty” and “breathtakingly beautiful” were two entirely different concepts.
The Bai Yin he had seen years ago had been lovely but still carried a hint of youthful naivety. Now, Bai Yin had fully blossomed. Her jade-like features were so captivating they could topple cities. Standing beside her, Bai Ru paled in comparison.
If only Bai Yin hadn’t fallen ill then he wouldn’t have had to change the engagement.
Shen Shen stared at Bai Yin, his heartbeat growing increasingly erratic. He longed to approach her but feared she would reject him as she had before. His eyes darkened with uncertainty as he watched her.
And as this thought crossed his mind, on the luck value panel; visible only to Lin Wan. His luck value suddenly flickered before dropping to “11%”!
Meanwhile, Bai Ru’s luck value plummeted to “7%” in an instant.
Lin Wan’s eyes widened as she scrutinized the numbers several times, a strange thought forming in her mind: Was Bai Ru’s luck value siphoned from the male lead?
This was far too bizarre!
Lin Wan kept staring at the two, trying to uncover more clues, but she failed to notice Bai Yin’s expression growing increasingly somber with her every move.
As usual, Bai Yin didn’t spare a single glance for the group of people around her, each harboring their own ulterior motives.
“Lin Wan?”
She turned her head slightly, calling Lin Wan’s name deliberately, syllable by syllable, her voice slightly raised to pull Lin Wan back to attention.
“I’d like to have that fruit platter.”
Bai Yin pointed at the refreshments ahead, nodding politely to the others with a brief “Excuse me” before Lin Wan wheeled her over to the fruit platter.
Even though Bai Yin never acknowledged him, Shen Shen’s gaze remained fixed on her retreating figure, lingering for a long time.
Bai Ru, watching Shen Shen’s expression, clenched her fists tightly, a sharp glint flashing in her eyes.
“Were you staring at Shen Shen just now because you think he’s good-looking?”
Bai Yin had been gazing at the fruit platter for quite some time before leisurely spearing a slice of orange with a fork. Instead of eating it herself, she beckoned Lin Wan over, signaling for her to crouch down.
As soon as Lin Wan lowered herself, Bai Yin brought the orange to her lips.
Lin Wan had grown accustomed to Bai Yin’s feeding gestures over the past few days and naturally accepted the fruit.
The orange was exceptionally juicy, and as Lin Wan ate, some of its nectar inevitably clung to the corner of her mouth.
Bai Yin narrowed her eyes slightly, picked up a nearby tissue, and carefully wiped it away.
Seemingly to divert Lin Wan’s embarrassment, Bai Yin asked for her opinion on Shen Shen, then lowered her voice to add, “But Shen Shen is indeed quite popular with women. Reporters have caught him shopping with different women several times recently.”
“So you knew about it, Miss!”
Lin Wan glanced at Bai Yin in surprise, feeling a wave of relief: the scumbag was undeniably handsome and capable, and she had genuinely worried that Bai Yin might be heartbroken over the broken engagement.
“He is quite good-looking, I suppose.”
Determined to further tarnish the scumbag male lead’s image in Bai Yin’s eyes but unfamiliar with Shen Shen, Lin Wan could only improvise: “But upon closer inspection, his eyes are dull and wandering, and his lips are thin; likely the face of someone cold and heartless. Staying away from him would be the best course of action for you, Miss.”
“You can read faces?”
Bai Yin, however, seemed to miss the main point of Lin Wan’s words. Her eyes brightened as she leaned in, bringing her face close to Lin Wan’s, and asked with a playful smile, “Then what do you think of my face?”
Bai Yin was so close that Lin Wan could almost feel her soft breath. Her beautiful eyes, shimmering with emotion, gazed up at Lin Wan, causing her heartbeat to skip uncontrollably. Lin Wan couldn’t help but avert her gaze.
“Miss, you’re kind and generous, never one to hold grudges, with a peaceful demeanor. Of course, yours is a destiny of wealth, prosperity, and longevity!”
Lin Wan knew nothing about face-reading and could only improvise based on the world’s storyline. Despite her efforts to stay composed, under Bai Yin’s gaze, her face flushed crimson.
Fortunately, Bai Yin didn’t seem suspicious.
She appeared pleased by Lin Wan’s words, her eyes crinkling as she let out a soft laugh.

Just as Bai Yin was about to feed Lin Wan another piece of fruit, Shen Shen approached again.
He had been observing Bai Yin and Lin Wan from a distance.
After some time to process, Shen Shen had finally moved past his initial awe upon seeing Bai Yin. Noticing that she seemed perfectly normal while chatting with her caregiver, he resolved to test the waters himself.
His earlier indifference had stemmed from Bai Yin’s perceived lack of appreciation, and the Bai family’s change in marriage candidate had seemed advantageous to him.
But now, smitten with Bai Yin all over again, he wanted to understand her better and if possible, win her back!
As this thought took root, Shen Shen drew nearer, and Lin Wan noticed the panel above his head flicker once more, his luck value now at 13%!
Lin Wan’s eyes widened. She glanced at Bai Ru in the distance, only to meet her gaze head-on.
Startled by the venom in Bai Ru’s expression, Lin Wan saw her lips move, silently mouthing the words, “Ten o’clock tonight.”
It was a notification, the time for action had been set.
Bai Ru soon averted her gaze.
Lin Wan took a closer look, and just as she had anticipated, the luck value above Bai Ru’s head had dropped to 5%.
Indeed, Bai Ru’s luck value had been siphoned from Shen Shen’s!
But how did Bai Ru possess such an ability?
Before Lin Wan could ponder further, the chime of a bell suddenly echoed through the banquet hall, signaling the imminent start of the auction.
Pushing Bai Yin’s wheelchair, Lin Wan followed the crowd into an adjacent side hall, while Shen Shen trailed leisurely behind them.
He exchanged a few words with Bai Yin. Though her expression remained as indifferent as it had been years ago. Her gaze fixed on her caregiver without sparing him a glance. Her responses were coherent and logical, clearly indicating she was far from insane…
Watching Bai Yin’s retreating figure, Shen Shen smiled with the confidence of a man who always got what he wanted.
As a domineering CEO, he had never failed to claim what he desired. Capturing the heart of a lonely woman, abandoned by her father and bereft of her mother, should be effortless…
