The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 15
“Steward Zhao, from what I know, the second young miss isn’t very kind to our lady. Could she be in danger if she goes there?”
Thinking that Steward Zhao, at the very least, would be more experienced than Bai Yin, Lin Wan refused to give up and tried to persuade him to cancel the trip.
“I never expected you to say something like that!”
Steward Zhao gave Lin Wan an extremely peculiar look, clearly taken aback by her words.
Just as Lin Wan was about to say more to convince him, she heard Steward Zhao sigh dramatically. “You do have a point!”
“But you also know that over the years, the lady has fallen further out of favor with Mr. Bai. There are already rumors that she’s gone mad. If she doesn’t go this time, and more gossip spreads, she’ll only become even more unwelcome.”
“But,” Lin Wan hadn’t expected Steward Zhao to agree with this and couldn’t help speaking anxiously.
“Mr. Bai has ignored the lady for the past two years, clearly not caring about her. Now that the lady has so much wealth in her own name, she could easily live her own life behind closed doors without worrying about Mr. Bai’s opinion.”
This was Lin Wan’s genuine belief that Bai Yin could live a better life if she broke free from her family.
“Ah, I understand the reasoning,” Steward Zhao lowered his voice and pointed toward the room inside.
“But the lady can’t let go of Mr. Bai.”
Steward Zhao silently swallowed the words “his life” and sighed, patting Lin Wan’s shoulder as she frowned deeply. “The lady will definitely be in the women’s section tomorrow, and I won’t be able to follow to take care of her. I’ll have to trouble you to look after her properly.”
After a moment’s thought, Steward Zhao added another warning: “Keep your eyes sharp!”
It was only because Lin Wan’s concern seemed genuine that Steward Zhao offered this advice.
He hoped she would stay vigilant, recognize the situation, and truly care for the lady, rather than playing some reverse psychology game.
Otherwise, if she ended up in the lady’s hands.
Thinking of the fate that awaited betrayers, even knowing they deserved it, Steward Zhao couldn’t help but shudder.
Lin Wan didn’t notice Steward Zhao’s obscure gaze.
Worried, she entered Bai Yin’s room and couldn’t resist speaking up again: “Miss, do you really have to go to that Pine Crane Villa? You haven’t fully recovered yet and shouldn’t travel long distances. If you really want that set of jewelry, you could have someone bid for you. There’s no need to go in person.”
“That auction is a real-name membership system,” Bai Yin glanced at Lin Wan. “No one but the member themselves can enter.”
“Besides, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen Aunt Li and Xiao Ru.”
“It’s Aunt Li’s birthday. If I don’t go, outsiders might speculate and say there’s bad blood between us. I can’t let Aunt Li be gossiped about because of me.”
The “Aunt Li” Bai Yin referred to was Bai Ru’s mother, Li Pei.
Lin Wan hadn’t expected Bai Yin to still care about Li Pei and her daughter at a time like this. Her emotions were a tangled mess.
This was just Bai Yin’s nature. She was the most considerate and kind-hearted protagonist, unaware that Bai Ru and the others wanted her dead, still thinking wholeheartedly for their sake.
Compared to Bai Yin facing danger, Lin Wan would rather she be more selfish.
“But they might not appreciate it! Miss, you need to think of yourself first!”
Lin Wan knew that this matter was practically set in stone and would be difficult to change. But the more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and she couldn’t help but speak up: “And with so many people coming and going at the banquet, I’m afraid you might be in danger.”
“Then I’ll have to rely on you.”
Bai Yin raised her head, her dark eyes shimmering as she looked at Lin Wan with a smile, gently grasping her hand.
“A cripple like me can’t manage without someone to take care of me. Butler Zhao said he’d have you accompany me.”
Bai Yin lifted her gaze, quietly watching Lin Wan: “I know you care about me and will definitely protect me, right?”
Bai Yin’s smile was flawless, showing no signs of anything amiss. Yet, for some reason perhaps because Bai Yin’s hand was too cold. Lin Wan shivered involuntarily when she met Bai Yin’s smiling face.
After a long pause, Lin Wan finally lowered her head and muttered resentfully, “Of course I will!”
Who asked you to be the female lead!
Lin Wan noticed something strange: the luck value wasn’t fixed. Recently, Bai Yin’s luck ratio had changed to “52%.”
On the day Zhao Feng moved out due to gambling debts, Lin Wan had secretly gone to check on him out of concern. There was no longer any luck value displayed on Zhao Feng.
Lin Wan couldn’t help but suspect Zhao Feng’s luck value had been transferred to Bai Yin.
But upon reflection, it wasn’t that hard to understand. Bai Yin’s flawlessly beautiful face was the best proof of the world’s favor toward her.
Since Bai Yin was so favored by the world’s consciousness, as long as Lin Wan protected her well, she wouldn’t have to worry about receiving the world’s blessings of luck.
Now that things had reached this point, what was done couldn’t be undone. Lin Wan stopped resisting and only hoped that, under the protection of luck, Bai Yin could turn misfortune into blessing.
The trip to Songhe Villa was bound to be fraught with risks. Lin Wan wouldn’t harm Bai Yin, but there was no guarantee Bai Ru and the others wouldn’t arrange for someone else to do so.
That night, Lin Wan spent hours packing, bringing along plenty of self-defense items and making backup copies of all Bai Yin’s medications before finally going to bed.
Lin Wan tossed and turned for a long time before falling asleep.
Though her body was asleep, her mind remained tense. She even had nightmares. Somehow, in her dream, Bai Yin’s hands were covered in blood, her eyes hollow, sinking into an endless abyss. No matter how hard Lin Wan tried, she couldn’t pull her out.
She barely slept all night, and to make matters worse, the next day’s schedule was packed. Lin Wan was jolted awake early by the alarm.
First, she went to the kitchen to help prepare breakfast for Bai Yin, coordinated with Butler Zhao to arrange the driver’s arrival time, waited for Bai Yin to finish her medical checkup, and then finally boarded the car with Bai Yin, luggage in tow.
“You’re only going for one day and coming back tomorrow. Do you really need to bring so much stuff?”
Butler Zhao’s eyes widened at the sight of the three large suitcases Lin Wan had packed.
“Better to be over-prepared than under-prepared,” Lin Wan replied vaguely, loading all the luggage into the trunk.
She sat rigidly beside Bai Yin, on high alert, and as soon as the car started moving, she began issuing warnings: “Bai Yin, never accept food from strangers.”
“Once we’re at the hot spring villa, you must not leave my sight.”
“Never go anywhere with a stranger. ”
Bai Yin patiently nodded in agreement to each point.
Lin Wan paused for a moment, but soon frowned and turned to Bai Yin again: “And don’t ever get into arguments with anyone. Some people are just naturally unpleasant. Just treat their words like the barking of dogs. ”
Bai Yin glanced at Lin Wan and nodded.
“I packed a few bottles of mineral water and my usual drinks in my suitcase. If you want something to drink.”
Lin Wan fidgeted uneasily, turning around to remind her again when a hand suddenly reached out and covered her lips.
Lin Wan stared wide-eyed at Bai Yin, who tilted her head slightly and gestured toward the window: “Look at that little yellow dog.”
It was a small rural mutt, glossy and adorable, happily sprinting across the fields.
“It’s truly happy.”
Though her tone was certain, Bai Yin looked at Lin Wan as if seeking confirmation. Unsure of what to make of it, Lin Wan glanced at the little dog and hesitantly nodded.
“I used to have a little dog too.”
Bai Yin turned back, watching the reflection of the frolicking dog grow smaller in the rearview mirror, her eyes lowering. “But in the end, it still left me.”
“I love watching dogs. Sometimes I think people have too many filthy desires and worries. They can’t even compare to carefree little dogs. ”
“Lin Wan,” Bai Yin turned to face her, removing her hand from Lin Wan’s lips. Her beautiful eyes locked onto Lin Wan’s, flickering with light and shadow. Though her lips curved into a smile, there was no warmth in her gaze.
“Do you think I should get another pet? One that will never leave me?”
