The Female Lead is Quite Unusual - Episode 11
The three-day break passed quickly.
Lin Wan accompanied her grandmother for a medical check-up. Fortunately, apart from some common ailments of old age, her grandmother was in good health.
Seeing her once increasingly withdrawn granddaughter grow close to her again, the elderly woman was overjoyed. Not knowing how else to express her affection, she spent each day preparing all sorts of delicious dishes for Lin Wan.
Even though Lin Wan repeatedly insisted she couldn’t eat another bite, her grandmother still stuffed her bags full of food before she left.
“Wanwan! You’ve lost so much weight lately. If the work is too hard, just quit. Grandma can still manage.”
Her grandmother didn’t care about Lin Wan’s high salary. She was far more concerned about how exhausting the job was.
It took Lin Wan a long time to reassure her reluctant grandmother, promising she’d put on some weight by the next time she visited.
Even as the taxi drove far away, Lin Wan could still feel her grandmother’s gaze lingering on her.
She lowered her eyes, her heart warm and her eyes stinging slightly.
A certain barrier in her heart suddenly crumbled, and the sense of alienation she had often felt since arriving in this world gradually receded like the tide.
She wasn’t alone.
In this world, she now had family who cared for her.

Home was a warm haven, a temporary shelter from all storms.
But after leaving, Lin Wan had no choice but to face her challenges alone.
She quickly composed herself.
By the time she arrived at the meeting spot with Wang Jiang, no trace of her earlier emotions remained on her face.
Wang Jiang was already waiting there. When he first saw Lin Wan, he almost didn’t recognize her.
Despite her efforts to blend in, Lin Wan’s demeanor was entirely different from the original host’s. She couldn’t feign the same adoration and reverence for Wang Jiang.
Since her grandmother had praised her for styling her bangs, Lin Wan had kept them when she left the house. As she stepped out of the car, her back straight and her neck slender, she looked nothing like the timid, shrinking girl from before.
Wang Jiang’s eyes lit up the moment he recognized her.
A picky playboy with high standards, Wang Jiang had always known the original host liked him but dismissed her as a poor, unworthy girl, merely stringing her along. Now, seeing Lin Wan like this, his heart suddenly itched with interest…
“Lin Wan, you look so beautiful like this!”
Wang Jiang’s smile was brighter than ever as he put on a considerate act, reaching to take the bags from Lin Wan’s hands. He had hoped to use the opportunity to hold her hand, but to his surprise, the bags were unexpectedly heavy; he nearly dropped them.
By the time Wang Jiang recovered, Lin Wan had already walked ahead, leaving him without so much as a finger to touch.
“Why are you carrying rice in a giant water bottle? Does Bai Yin Villa not even have rice?”
Wang Jiang caught his breath, straightened up, and tried to keep the conversation going.
“These are eggs my grandmother gave me to nourish my health. She packed them in rice to keep them from breaking.”
“Be careful. Don’t crack them!”
Lin Wan stopped and turned, frowning slightly at Wang Jiang’s flushed face. “If you can’t carry them, I’ll take them back.”
“Brother can definitely handle a few eggs! I was just pretending wanted to make you feel sorry for me.”
Wang Jiang’s smile froze. He really didn’t want to carry such heavy eggs, but he couldn’t admit his weakness. So, he slickly replied, “It’s just that I’ve been so worried about you lately that I wasn’t paying attention when walking and hurt my back. I accidentally aggravated the injury just now, so it’s a bit painful.”
If the original owner of this body were here, she would probably have been deeply moved by Wang Jiang’s words and certainly wouldn’t have let him continue carrying the eggs.
But Lin Wan was delighted to hear this news and secretly wished Wang Jiang had fallen even harder. Why would she take the bait?
“Brother Jiang, you’re so good to me!”
Lin Wan pretended to be shy, lowering her head and turning away to hide the smile of joy tugging at her lips. “I’ll go buy you some water.”
Wang Jiang’s eyes widened as he watched Lin Wan walk away, never expecting her to be so oblivious to his hints.
Yet, he had already made his excuse. Now, with the need to coax Lin Wan into doing his bidding, he had no choice but to struggle with the heavy bucket of eggs all the way to the private room, sweating profusely. His earlier claim of back pain had been a lie, but now his back genuinely ached.
To make matters worse, once inside the room, Lin Wan anxiously checked her phone and urged him, “Let’s keep this brief. Butler Zhao just called to ask when I’ll be back.”
After all this hassle, Wang Jiang abandoned any flirtatious intentions and cut straight to the point.
“Lin Wan, have you heard of Pine Crane Villa?”
Lin Wan nodded. It was Bai Jian’s company property, the finest hot spring resort in the city.
“Next Saturday is Madam Li Ruyue’s birthday, Bai Ru’s mother. She plans to host a banquet at Pine Crane Villa and has invited Bai Yin to attend.”
“You must find a way to accompany Bai Yin there. The western side of the villa is under renovation, and we’ll remove the warning signs. Lure her into that area, there are deep pits everywhere. Even a normal person would have to tread carefully. For a paralyzed woman like Bai Yin, drowning in an ‘accident’ would seem perfectly natural.”
Lin Wan’s eyes widened in shock. She hadn’t expected Bai Ru and her mother to devise such a vicious plan in such a short time!
She struggled to conceal her astonishment and tried to point out flaws in the plan to dissuade him: “But what if Miss Bai Yin refuses to go?”
“She will go.”
Wang Jiang spoke with absolute certainty. “For charity, Bai Ru is organizing an auction during the banquet to sell her mother Li Ruyue’s favorite jewelry.”
Perhaps sensing Lin Wan’s hesitation, Wang Jiang softened his tone, feigning guilt. “Lin Wan, this is my fault. I’ve dragged you into this mess with me.”
“I had no choice. At this point, there’s almost no turning back for us.”
“Blame that damned dog from back then. If it weren’t for that dog, neither of us would be caught up in this trouble today.”
“What dog?” Lin Wan blinked. Was there some hidden detail she didn’t know?
“During the car accident, Bai Yin was unconscious and bleeding heavily. The area was remote, and if not for that dog barking incessantly to wake her up, allowing her to call for help, she would have died long ago!”
“But I’ve never seen a dog at the villa.” A dog that had saved Bai Yin’s life. Surely she would have kept it by her side.
“That dog was also severely injured in the crash. It died after waking Bai Yin. She buried it beside her mother’s grave.”
With that, Wang Jiang feigned a sigh and said, “Lin Wan, I know you can’t bear it, but think of it this way. We’re actually helping Bai Yin find release.”
“She can’t walk, trapped in a wheelchair every day. Her mother is dead, her pet is gone. Wouldn’t it be better for her to reunite with her mother and pet sooner rather than later?”
Lin Wan exchanged a few more pleasantries with Wang Jiang, trying to find out who else in the villa was loyal to Bai Ru. However, Wang Jiang remained highly vigilant and didn’t reveal any information about that person.
Just then, Butler Zhao called. Lin Wan, no longer interested in dealing with Wang Jiang, took a taxi back to the villa.
Most of the food her grandmother had brought was perishable and wouldn’t last long if not eaten soon. Lin Wan distributed what she had brought to her colleagues, then hurriedly took a quick shower before rushing to Bai Yin’s room.
Lin Wan was determined not to let Bai Yin go to Songhe Villa.
But just as Wang Jiang had said, if Bai Yin found out there would be an auction at the banquet, she would probably insist on going.
Fortunately, Bai Ru’s invitation hadn’t been sent out yet, there was still time!
Lin Wan decided to stay by Bai Yin’s side these next few days and intercept the invitation before it arrived.
…
When Lin Wan entered the room, Bai Yin had just finished her meal.
Bai Yin seemed to love wearing white. Dressed in a loose white dress with no makeup, her fair and delicate arms exposed, she looked pure and fragile.
Such a beautiful, gentle girl! Why couldn’t Bai Ru and her daughter tolerate her?
Lin Wan sighed inwardly, recalling the words she had heard from Wang Jiang. Her heart ached for Bai Yin, strengthening her resolve to protect her.
Bai Yin was looking down at her phone, a faint smile playing on her lips as if she had seen something amusing.
“What has made you so happy, Miss?” Lin Wan couldn’t help but ask as she entered the room.
She had expected Bai Yin not to answer, but Bai Yin raised her eyes and motioned for Lin Wan to come closer, then handed her the phone.
On the screen was their chat history, ending with the messages Lin Wan had sent the night before.
“Look, my grandmother’s nougat is so delicious!”

“A little girl next door kept calling me ‘Wanwan’ and pestering me for some, so I gave her a few pieces.”

Was Bai Yin?
“Wanwan, I want some too.”
Lin Wan blinked, meeting Bai Yin’s dark, unwavering gaze. Her red lips parted slightly as she reached out a hand toward Lin Wan.
