The Female Lead is a World Destroying Demon [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 3
In less than ten minutes, Zhao Chuji came downstairs.
She was wearing the new clothes Yu Yao had bought for her, her soft black hair falling naturally over her shoulders. Something unknown must have happened, because her complexion, which had recently regained a bit of a rosy glow, had turned as pale as paper once again.
“What’s wrong?”
Yu Yao was startled. Disregarding the little black cat she had been playing with, she hurriedly stepped forward to support Zhao Chuji.
“I’m fine. The landlord wasn’t home, so I contacted him by phone and left the keys where they belonged.”
Zhao Chuji lowered her eyes and answered Yu Yao in a soft, gentle voice: “I just bumped into Grandpa Liu again on my way out, and he scared me…”
At first, Yu Yao didn’t realize who “Grandpa Liu” was. But combining it with Zhao Chuji’s reaction, she realized a moment late that it was the creepy old man from next door.
“Did he bully you?” Yu Yao furrowed her brows deeply.
The only reason she had tagged along was because she was worried the old man would bully Zhao Chuji.
If she had known, she should have ignored Zhao Chuji’s wishes and accompanied her upstairs…
“It’s nothing, he was just lurking by the doorway, and I was just startled.” Zhao Chuji looked at Yu Yao and flashed a pale smile. “In broad daylight, he wouldn’t dare to do anything anyway.”
Only then did Yu Yao breathe a sigh of relief.
As she led Zhao Chuji back, the little black cat approached them again, clinging to her feet the entire way.
This little black cat had just run out of the building earlier. It seemed to share a special bond with her; the moment it came out, it wouldn’t stop acting cute and rolling around at her side.
Yu Yao felt a bit conflicted: she really liked the cat, but she was afraid it might have an owner who would be heartbroken if she took it away.
“Little Black’s owner moved away some time ago and abandoned it.”
“I would feed it whenever I had time.”
Standing to the side, Zhao Chuji gestured with her hand. The little black cat seemed familiar with her and immediately looked up, letting out a “meow” toward her.
As expected of the kind-hearted female lead, Yu Yao thought. Even when her own life is so tight and miserable, she still spares food to raise a kitten…
“Then let’s adopt it!”
“Since you live all by yourself, it’ll be good to have Little Black to keep you company.”
Seeing that Zhao Chuji did not object, Yu Yao carefully picked up the kitten and took it to a pet hospital to get dewormed, bathed, and vaccinated.
By the time all of this was finished, it was already noon.
Yu Yao took Zhao Chuji to a shopping mall for lunch, intending to have a proper discussion with her about enrolling in school.
Not knowing what Zhao Chuji liked to eat, she picked an influencer restaurant that had relatively high ratings on social media apps.
Just as they sat down at their table and before they could even speak, a few unfamiliar girls approached them from the side.
“Are… Are you Zhao Chuji?”
One of the girls asked cautiously, a friendly smile on her face.
Zhao Chuji’s face remained expressionless, but her body suddenly stiffened.
“Is there something we can help you with?”
Yu Yao discreetly squeezed Zhao Chuji’s hand under the table and looked up at the girls.
“Sister, are you Zhao Chuji’s manager? You are so beautiful too!”
“We just think she is incredibly gorgeous, and her aura is amazing.” The girl said, looking a bit embarrassed. “We wanted to come over and take a photo with her.”
“Would that be okay?”
Yu Yao looked at Zhao Chuji, letting her make the decision. Zhao Chuji had just gone through a terrible ordeal, and Yu Yao hadn’t had the chance to counsel her yet, so she was worried about triggering a stress response.
Zhao Chuji pursed her lips. After a brief moment, however, she offered a friendly smile: “Okay, thank you for liking me, sisters.”
She took photos with the girls. Watching them excitedly upload the pictures to social media, she gave Yu Yao a deep, meaningful look before sitting back down beside her.
Did Yu Yao arrange for these people to come?
Is Yu Yao thinking of becoming her manager to profit off of her?
But when Yu Yao took her in, the stigma attached to her name hadn’t even been cleared yet…
“I’m sorry!”
Yet, the moment she sat down, Yu Yao apologized to her with a face full of regret: “Next time, I’ll choose a restaurant with private private rooms.”
Once again, she had guessed Yu Yao’s intentions completely wrong.
“Sister Yu Yao, you don’t need to be so polite…”
Zhao Chuji looked timid on the surface, but a dark glint flashed across the depths of her eyes, and a faint anxiety crept into her heart: What exactly is Yu Yao trying to do?
Along her journey in life, she had encountered many women who sought to exploit her for their own benefit.
The day before yesterday, she had originally planned to throw caution to the wind and use her abilities to find an opportunity to kill both Old Man Liu and that disgusting director.
But just as she was about to make a move on Old Man Liu, Yu Yao had shown up.
She had initially thought Yu Yao was taking advantage of her beauty to rob her while she was down, but Yu Yao was the very first person to say she wanted to send her to school. She could not resist such a temptation…
Ultimately, her abilities were growing stronger and stronger. Not only could she manipulate human consciousness, but she could even control certain animals and read their memories.
If Yu Yao harbored other motives, she could easily turn the tables, manipulate Yu Yao, and use her to live the life she desired.
But she had waited all night the previous evening, and Yu Yao had never exposed her true intentions.
She did not believe that anyone would treat her well for no reason whatsoever.
It was just that Yu Yao hid it deeper than most people.
But she had plenty of time to wait for Yu Yao to show her cloven hoof…
“I’ve already found a school for you. You can rest tomorrow, and you can start going to school this coming Monday.”
The moment Zhao Chuji sat down, Yu Yao returned to the main topic. “It’s a private school near my home. The school culture and college acceptance rates are quite good. Crucially, it’s close to home only about a ten-minute walk so you can live at home.”
Zhao Chuji was not a local, and now that the semester was halfway through, entering a public school would require handling all sorts of tedious paperwork. Although a private school was more expensive, it allowed for immediate enrollment.
“This is the information about the school, take a look first.” Yu Yao unlocked her phone and handed it to Zhao Chuji. “If you’re not satisfied, we can always look for another school…”
How could she possibly be unsatisfied?
Zhao Chuji stared blankly at the data on the phone. She had thought her heart had already grown as cold and hard as ice, incapable of being moved by anything, yet at this moment, a burst of uncontrollable aching and swelling welled up in her chest.
In the past, even though her tuition was waived, she had to finish all the housework before she could go to school. Whenever her father was displeased, he would subject her to a brutal beating, cursing her as a jinx who had brought death upon her mother and younger brother, and who ruined his luck in gambling…
If the neighbor grandmother hadn’t pitied her and occasionally given her bits of food, she would have died long ago.
But two years ago, the neighbor grandmother passed away as well.
Before she died, the grandmother had secretly slipped her two hundred yuan, telling her to run away from the village if she ever got the chance and never come back.
When she graduated from middle school, she clearly had the best grades, but she had no money to attend high school. Her father had even wanted to use her as collateral to pay off his creditors…
She had escaped. She originally thought she would continue to drift aimlessly like this, never expecting that she would have another chance to go to school.
She had never believed Yu Yao’s nonsense about being an old acquaintance of her mother. Her mother had lived her whole life in the village and died there, never stepping foot outside of it; how could she possibly know Yu Yao, who lived thousands of miles away?
But no matter what kind of trap lay ahead, since there was an opportunity to go to school, she was definitely going to take it!
For the sake of being able to go to school, she glanced at Yu Yao and secretly made up her mind: As long as Yu Yao isn’t excessively outrageous, even if she has ulterior motives, I will leave her with her life…
Thinking this way, she bit her lip and continued to don her submissive and gentle protective shell. Tears welled up in her eyes, and her gaze was filled with gratitude: “Sister Yu Yao, you are truly too good to me!”
“I currently have nothing to repay you with, but once I graduate, I will definitely do everything in my power to repay your kindness. You can make me do whatever you want…”
She secretly scrutinized Yu Yao’s expression: Look! I am already weeping with gratitude like this, so you don’t have to hypocritically conceal your purpose anymore…
“Just focus on your schoolwork with peace of mind. I don’t need you to repay me either; helping you is just a minor effort for me.” Yet, Yu Yao’s response remained completely seamless and watertight.
Seeing that Zhao Chuji hadn’t been negatively affected by the previous events and still dared to interact with people, Yu Yao felt incredibly comforted in her heart.
A female lead who was so beautiful, kind, and adorable just like a little white rabbit deserved to live a smooth and beautiful life.
“Chuji, you have to believe in yourself. You are so wonderful, you will definitely have a very bright future.”
Looking at the weeping Zhao Chuji, she offered her heartfelt blessings to this pitiful girl: “You have a beautiful name.”
“After the rain, the sky clears (Chu Ji). The storms of your life have already passed. In the future, your entire life will be filled with clear skies for thousands of miles, a completely smooth path…”
“Thank you, Sister Yu Yao.”
Tears of gratitude continued to flow from Zhao Chuji’s eyes, her voice choking up.
She raised her hand to wipe away her tears, but as she lowered her eyes, a flash of mockery quickly darted through them…
Yu Yao really is a city person raised in a greenhouse!
If Yu Yao knew that her father had originally wanted to name her “Chuji” meaning “Nestling/Young Chicken and it was only because the government registry worker felt pity for her and took a risk to change it to the homophone “Chuji” meaning “Clear Sky after Rain” for which her father had even extorted a large sum of money from the worker who knows what kind of expression Yu Yao would make…
