In less than ten minutes, Zhao Chuji came downstairs.

She was wearing the new clothes Yu Yao had bought for her, her soft black hair falling naturally over her shoulders. Something unknown must have happened, because her complexion, which had recently regained a bit of a rosy glow, had turned as pale as paper once again.

“What’s wrong?”

Yu Yao was startled. Disregarding the little black cat she had been playing with, she hurriedly stepped forward to support Zhao Chuji.

“I’m fine. The landlord wasn’t home, so I contacted him by phone and left the keys where they belonged.”

Zhao Chuji lowered her eyes and answered Yu Yao in a soft, gentle voice: “I just bumped into Grandpa Liu again on my way out, and he scared me…”

At first, Yu Yao didn’t realize who “Grandpa Liu” was. But combining it with Zhao Chuji’s reaction, she realized a moment late that it was the creepy old man from next door.

“Did he bully you?” Yu Yao furrowed her brows deeply.

The only reason she had tagged along was because she was worried the old man would bully Zhao Chuji.

If she had known, she should have ignored Zhao Chuji’s wishes and accompanied her upstairs…

“It’s nothing, he was just lurking by the doorway, and I was just startled.” Zhao Chuji looked at Yu Yao and flashed a pale smile. “In broad daylight, he wouldn’t dare to do anything anyway.”

Only then did Yu Yao breathe a sigh of relief.

As she led Zhao Chuji back, the little black cat approached them again, clinging to her feet the entire way.

This little black cat had just run out of the building earlier. It seemed to share a special bond with her; the moment it came out, it wouldn’t stop acting cute and rolling around at her side.

Yu Yao felt a bit conflicted: she really liked the cat, but she was afraid it might have an owner who would be heartbroken if she took it away.

“Is there something we can help you with?”

Yu Yao discreetly squeezed Zhao Chuji’s hand under the table and looked up at the girls.

“Sister, are you Zhao Chuji’s manager? You are so beautiful too!”

“We just think she is incredibly gorgeous, and her aura is amazing.” The girl said, looking a bit embarrassed. “We wanted to come over and take a photo with her.”

“Would that be okay?”

Yu Yao looked at Zhao Chuji, letting her make the decision. Zhao Chuji had just gone through a terrible ordeal, and Yu Yao hadn’t had the chance to counsel her yet, so she was worried about triggering a stress response.

Zhao Chuji pursed her lips. After a brief moment, however, she offered a friendly smile: “Okay, thank you for liking me, sisters.”

She took photos with the girls. Watching them excitedly upload the pictures to social media, she gave Yu Yao a deep, meaningful look before sitting back down beside her.
