The Favorite of the Sick and Weak Lady - Chapter 44
“Ah?” Here? Xiao Yu instinctively looked at Song Luoning, then, after a pause, her gaze returned to her cheap mother. How could she change clothes here with her watching?
At once, Jiang Wanrou understood. She shot her a look of annoyance, then got up and sat outside the carriage.
From outside, Jiang Wanrou’s strong voice came through: “You’re driving so slowly, are you hoping they’ll catch up? I think you two must have a death wish.”
“Shouldn’t we wait for Captain Liang?”
“Wait for what? Captain Liang is highly skilled in martial arts. What do you two have?”
“…”
After a three-second silence, the carriage visibly jolted and then clearly sped up.
Xiao Yu rubbed her nose, feeling a little awkward. Although she had shared a bed with the young mistress more than once, changing clothes face-to-face was a first.
“Well… my dear wife, why don’t you go first…” she said, glancing at Song Luoning.
Song Luoning’s heart was also flustered, but she couldn’t refuse to change. She turned her face away and hummed softly, “You turn around.”
Xiao Yu did as she was told, turning her back and facing the front of the carriage.
After a moment of silence, a rustling sound came from behind her. Song Luoning took off her outer robe, revealing a pale moonlight-colored undergarment. She looked at the slender back in front of her, hesitated for a second, and then took off the undergarment. Only a peony-embroidered bellyband remained, and her skin, almost transparent in the light, was fair and flawless.
Song Luoning’s delicate face flushed red. Her gentle, serene voice trembled slightly, “You… take off your clothes and give them to me.”
“Oh, okay.” Xiao Yu was about to turn around, but a voice from behind stopped her, “Don’t turn around.” The voice then became a little softer, “Just take them off like that and give them to me.”
Xiao Yu gulped, “Okay.”
She began to take off her clothes, and in a moment, they were off. She handed them back over her shoulder, “My dear wife.”
Song Luoning hesitated before taking the clothes from Xiao Yu’s hand. They were still warm, but even with only a faint body temperature, they felt exceptionally hot in her hands.
Song Luoning hugged the clothes to her chest to conceal the bright red bellyband, and in turn, she placed her own clothes into Xiao Yu’s hand.
Both of them lowered their heads and began to put on each other’s clothes.
Xiao Yu was slender, so her clothes were a bit baggy on Song Luoning. The waiter’s uniform that Song Luoning had been wearing was a standard outfit from the Mingpin Restaurant, which was generally suitable for men in ancient times, who were not very tall. Although Xiao Yu wasn’t a man, she wasn’t short. Luckily, she was thin, so the uniform fit her quite well.
An ambiguous, intoxicating atmosphere filled the carriage.
After a while, Xiao Yu cleared her throat, breaking the silence, “My dear wife, are you ready?”
“Yes,” Song Luoning replied.
Xiao Yu nodded, “I’m turning around now.” She emphasized this, not knowing if she was telling herself or the young mistress, but it felt a little redundant.
Song Luoning sat there, her face calm, having returned to her usual composure, but her heart was thumping like a trapped rabbit.
Xiao Yu moved closer to her, and the rabbit in Song Luoning’s chest began to jump even more wildly.
Song Luoning tightened her clasped hands. She instinctively wanted to move away but ultimately held back.
Xiao Yu habitually rubbed her nose. As she moved, she could still smell the faint fragrance on the clothes—it was Song Luoning’s scent. She lowered her eyes, squeezed and then released her palm, suppressing the small surge of joy in her heart.
After the carriage had been speeding for a while, the sound of urgent hoofbeats came from behind. Everyone’s hearts were in their throats, but when the sound got closer, they found it was Liang Chengqiu. Only then did they breathe a sigh of relief.
From a distance, Chen Yu exclaimed with delight, “Captain Liang, you finally caught up!”
Liang Chengqiu responded with a calm nod, glancing at the carriage. The curtain was closed, so she couldn’t see the people inside.
“Where is Young Master Xiao?”
“My cousin is inside the carriage.”
After confirming, Liang Chengqiu withdrew her gaze and sped up, “Since everyone is safe, let’s leave this place first.”
Every extra second they stayed in Qingzhou was an unknown danger.
The two sides looked at each other, tacitly understanding and accelerating their pace. They finally left the Qingzhou territory before dark.
Just as everyone was about to relax, a troop of government soldiers appeared out of nowhere right after they left Qingzhou and forced their carriage to stop, surrounding them. A leading general dismounted and hurried forward, cupping his hands in front of the carriage with respect, “Young Master Xiao.”
The man at the head of the troop was none other than Song Yanqi.
Young Master Xiao?
The first to react was Jiang Wanrou, “Who are you people?”
Xiao Yu also pushed open the carriage curtain. She saw the man’s face, which was dignified and carried a righteous air. There were at least a hundred soldiers.
Xiao Yu’s mouth twitched slightly. Was such a large-scale mobilization necessary for one fugitive?
Or were they also here to kill her?
Song Yanqi spoke seriously, “I am Song Yanqi, the great general of the Jinwu Guard, and I have been ordered to escort Young Master Xiao into the capital.”
A familiar voice rang out, and Song Luoning froze. She looked up, surprised. Why was her elder brother here? Her brother was in charge of security in the capital, especially the palace, which was extremely important. So why would he appear here?
As she was wondering, Song Yanqi spoke again, “Little sister, long time no see.” His voice had softened.
Little sister?
Xiao Yu was stunned. What was going on?
Song Luoning curved her lips into a smile, “Elder brother.”
Elder brother?
Xiao Yu looked at Song Yanqi outside the carriage and then at the sitting Song Luoning inside. This time, she understood. The person was her great brother-in-law.
Coming to the capital, and this brother-in-law brought so many people to welcome her—she was truly a little overwhelmed.
Song Yanqi said, “Father asked me to bring some people to welcome you. Hurry and come back with me. Father has already arranged a place to stay. Everyone at home misses you very much. Your sisters-in-law have been talking about you for a while now.”
