The Fallen Beauty Becomes the Mob Boss’s Possession - Chapter 6
(PS: The protagonist has fewer scenes in this chapter. Readers may skip ahead to Chapter Eight.)
“How do you even have the face to come back here!”
Lin Xingxue was furious. She gripped Qin Huai’s wrist with such force that she left deep red marks on his already slender skin.
Qin Huai disgustedly shook her off and stared at the woman with cold, dead eyes. He loathed this house and the woman before him. If not for them, his mother would not have died so young.
“Why wouldn’t I be able to come back? This is my home, too.”
Qin Huai curled his lips into a faint smile, his tone nonchalant. His expression shifted from indifference to a sudden sense of clarity.
This only enraged Lin Xingxue further. She raised her hand to strike his face, but Qin Huai caught her wrist in a vice-like grip.
“What right do you have to hit me? You are not my mother. Do not act like you have the authority to lecture me, you low-life.”
Lin Xingxue was seething, but Qin Huai’s strength far exceeded hers, making it impossible for her to pull her hand away. The two remained locked in a stalemate at the doorway.
“You brat, who do you think you are? You failed to marry into the Ling family and spent your wedding night fooling around with some other man, and yet you still have the gall to speak!”
Qin Huai shook his head in frustration at Lin Xingxue’s habit of twisting the truth. It was precisely because of a woman like her that the Cheng household knew no peace. As for his father, Cheng Shangjian, he was so blinded by her that he believed her every lie, leading the family to its current state of decline.
Thinking about the forced engagement with the Ling family, Qin Huai narrowed his eyes. Although the Cheng family’s goal had been achieved, the Ling family would certainly not let the matter rest.
Noticing the look in Qin Huai’s eyes, Lin Xingxue felt a chill run down her spine. She let out a miserable wail, playing the victim with unreasonable tenacity.
Hearing the commotion, the nanny opened the front door, took one look at the scene, and rushed upstairs to call Cheng Shangjian.
Once the nanny left, Lin Xingxue held her head high, looking as smug as a victorious rooster.
“Hmph. I came here today to demand that you return my mother’s belongings. They do not belong to you, and you should not be so comfortable holding onto them.”
Qin Huai sneered, pushed Lin Xingxue aside, and strode into the villa. He sat down on the sofa, completely unbothered by her presence.
Lin Xingxue scoffed and pointed at him, cursing, “Your mother’s things? Your mother was a mistress! What could she possibly have left behind here? Now that you have no value to the Cheng family, you have no business staying here. Garbage belongs in the trash.”
Just as she finished, Cheng Shangjian descended the stairs. He wore a grim expression, staring down at Qin Huai on the sofa with a furrowed brow.
“What are you back for now? You ran off with another man on your wedding night. It is a miracle the Ling family is not holding you accountable, and yet you have the nerve to come back and drag us down with you?”
Hearing his own father say such things, Qin Huai gave a self-deprecating laugh, picked up a teacup, and took a calm, leisurely sip.
“Does the Cheng family have nothing to do with me? Or perhaps, are you not my father at all?”
Qin Huai’s two questions left Cheng Shangjian speechless, but Lin Xingxue continued to yell incessantly.
“Your mother is already dead! How can a child born to a mistress be so shameless?”
“Just because you almost destroyed the Cheng family, you should not even be allowed through that door! Get out, you wretch!”
Based on his past character, Qin Huai would have ignored Lin Xingxue’s shouting. But today, hearing her continuously insult his mother and mention her death, he felt an intense discomfort.
“Stop opening your mouth to say such things. My mother is dead, but she is still my mother, and she belongs to this family!”
Qin Huai slammed his teacup onto the coffee table with a loud crash. He turned his head and glared at Lin Xingxue with burning eyes.
Lin Xingxue, having never been treated this way, became even more incensed. She rushed forward, intending to slap him, but was held back by Cheng Shangjian.
This broke the last thread of Lin Xingxue’s composure. She turned around and slapped Cheng Shangjian instead.
“You useless thing! You finally know how to protect him now? Back then, if it were not for the support of my family’s assets, would you have achieved anything today? To put it bluntly, it was me who helped you become the head of the Cheng family! If it were not for me, that Qin Lan would still be riding on your head!”
Hearing his mother’s name, Qin Huai stood up immediately. It sounded as if his mother had not been a mistress who stole a marriage at all.
Realizing she had made a slip of the tongue, Lin Xingxue’s expression changed, and she hurried behind Cheng Shangjian.
“What did you just say? Say it again.”
Qin Huai was not about to let her go. He ignored Cheng Shangjian and grabbed Lin Xingxue by the collar, demanding an answer with a fierce gaze.
This startled Cheng Shangjian, who hurried to separate them.
Seeing Qin Huai restrained by his father, Lin Xingxue stood on her tiptoes, acting arrogant again.
“Who do you think you are? You think I will say it again just because you asked? You really think you are something. You are an Omega who cannot even get married properly and goes out to fool around. Let us see if you can even find an Alpha later!”
Qin Huai had heard such insults thousands of times. Now, he only responded with a cold, mocking laugh.
“You are only capable of saying such pathetic things. First you say I have nothing to do with the Cheng family, and then you worry about whether I can get married. Should I thank you, or should I just beat you up?”
Qin Huai tilted his head, staring fixedly at Lin Xingxue until she cowered behind Cheng Shangjian again, terrified that Qin Huai would actually strike her.
“Enough, Qin Huai! Did you just come here to cause a scene? There is no place for you in this home! Get out!” Cheng Shangjian shouted, finally overwhelmed by the chaos.
Qin Huai, showing no fear, crossed his arms and watched the scene unfold with an amused expression. “Your youngest son has married into the Ling family. He must be enjoying quite a lot of fortune now, right?”
At these words, Lin Xingxue exploded like a time bomb.
“You have the nerve to say that! If you had not refused to marry into the family, my son would not have had to suffer like this! He is so young, and he has to take your place and marry Ling Feng! You are a beast, no different from your dead mother!”
Hearing her insult his mother again, Qin Huai’s suppressed rage finally flared up.
Elsewhere, Shen Yuzhi had learned from his subordinates that Qin Huai had gone to the Cheng residence. He did not interfere. He knew the Cheng family inside and out; if he could weaken the Ling family’s influence, acquiring the Cheng family would be child’s play.
However, since he did not fully understand Qin Huai’s motives, he dared not act rashly. He wanted to see how Qin Huai would play this game.
“President Shen, Young Master Qin has no shares in the Cheng family; all shares are held by Lin Xingxue and Cheng Shangjian.”
Shen Yuzhi was surprised to hear that they had not allocated any shares to their youngest son. It seemed their greed was far greater than he had imagined.
“Keep a close watch on the Cheng family’s company. Do not let them go too far. If there are any business dealings with the Ling Group, let me know immediately.”
Shen Yuzhi swirled his glass, a faint smile on his cold, stern face as he stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the city.
“What kind of person are you? How dare you say that? What kind of good person was your mother? She held all the family assets; why should your father not have controlled them!”
Lin Xingxue was so angry she had lost her mind, and she let the words slip. Everyone went silent; the empty living room suddenly became deathly quiet.
Qin Huai smiled sinisterly. He pointed at the two of them, his eyes full of menace.
“Very well. You two conspired together to harm my mother, did you not? This home belonged to her in the first place. You are nothing but thieves who occupied another’s nest.”
Qin Huai was no longer in a hurry to reclaim his mother’s belongings. Since the entire Cheng family rightfully belonged to his mother, taking control of it was only a matter of time.
This trip had been worth it. Through the quarrel, he had finally understood the truth about his heritage. He was not an illegitimate child; Cheng An was. And his mother was not a mistress; the woman in front of him was.
It was laughable that a stupid woman like Lin Xingxue had managed to use her family background to replace his mother back then.
Of course, Qin Huai would not let this vicious woman off the hook, nor would he spare the foolish, incompetent Cheng Shangjian.
