Chapter 72: End of the Main Story
Hearing her girlfriend’s voice, Lin Chumu let out a soft chuckle. Even as a tentative reminder from the production team came through her earpiece, she ignored it and strode purposefully toward the source. Everyone had been given an electronic map before entering, and it was now proving to be extremely useful.
The production team had originally intended to use Lu Ziqi and Lu Chaoqing’s popularity for a “shipped” narrative to drive traffic. They hadn’t dared to explain their full intentions at first, fearing the stars wouldn’t show up if they knew. The plan was simple: trap Lu Chaoqing so Lu Ziqi could play the hero. However, Lin Chumu refused to follow the script and kept heading straight for her.
The assistant director’s anxious voice crackled in her ear: “Chumu, Chumu! If you’re going there, hit her with your prop gun so Lu Ziqi can save her later. Don’t ruin the script!”
It was just a game, after all. Prop guns only deducted points and caused no pain. Though they knew the two were close, the director thought Lin Chumu would agree to such a small prank. But she was nothing like what they imagined. She gave a verbal “okay,” but the moment she arrived—
“Sister, I’m over here!”
The girl’s sweet voice echoed from the depths of the cave, as familiar as ever. Lin Chumu, who was technically on a different team, quietly raised her prop gun toward her while walking. The director was mentally cheering. The match was being live-streamed; while there were no camera crews following them, key areas were equipped with fixed cameras. The sight of Lin Chumu hiding her gun while moving cautiously delighted the director—this was prime entertainment.
Except for the fact that Lu Ziqi was running a bit late, everything was perfect. Helpless, the production team gave Lu Ziqi a little help to speed him along.
Meanwhile, Lin Chumu successfully reached Lu Chaoqing’s location. She stepped onto a rock and looked down, aiming her weapon at the girl in the crevice without hesitation. Trapped in her tiny corner, the girl looked like prey. The live chat was a mix of fans worrying and viewers jokingly waiting for them to “kill” each other. Lin Chumu pulled the trigger with a stylish, swift motion—but instead of hitting the girl, the stream of liquid splattered directly onto the hidden camera.
Splat, splat, splat!
With three rapid bursts, the colored water accurately hit the lens, rendering the image completely blurry. The director’s monitor went dark. Since they only had one camera in that specific blind spot, the live feed was instantly cut.
Audience: “???” What happens next?!
The “next part” was naturally not for them to see. Lin Chumu tossed the prop gun aside, vaulted over the rock, and apologized into her microphone with a straight face: “I’m so sorry, I’ve never really played shooting games before. My aim is terrible.”
Then, amidst the director’s stunned silence, she smirked and quickly cracked the code. The lock on the wooden door clicked open, and the girl inside lunged out, throwing herself into Lin Chumu’s arms. Lu Chaoqing stretched her stiff limbs before hearing Lin Chumu grumble with a hint of jealousy: “He couldn’t even crack Morse code? Is Lu Ziqi that weak?”
Lu Chaoqing giggled, defending him: “There’s no need to say that. He’s a singer and dancer with a busy schedule; where would he find time to study this stuff?”
Lin Chumu raised an eyebrow, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend’s waist and lightly tickling her. “You’re speaking up for him?”
After a moment of playfulness, Lu Chaoqing didn’t answer directly, but the reason she defended him became clear soon enough. When the boy finally wandered back to the spot, Lu Chaoqing was standing inside again as if nothing had happened. As Lu Ziqi concentrated on the code, she suddenly pushed the door open and sprayed him with her small water gun, dousing him in bright, colorful patterns.
While Lu Ziqi was still in a daze, Lin Chumu and Lu Chaoqing launched a pincer attack, easily draining his points. The girl, who had looked so helpless earlier, was now laughing breathlessly. Even when a prop skeleton dropped from the ceiling, she simply kicked it aside and showed a card to the startled Lu Ziqi.
It was a Team Change Card they had found while he was gone. Lu Ziqi’s teammate was now Lin Chumu’s former teammate, and Lin Chumu and Lu Chaoqing were now a team.
Or rather, a couple.
In a blind spot of the cameras, Lu Ziqi, who was finally recovering from the shock, realized what was happening when he saw their intertwined hands. He pulled off his mic and hissed under his breath, “Stupid couple.”
Unbeknownst to him, there was a camera in front of him, and some viewers happened to be lip-readers. When he mouthed the word “couple,” the CP fans and anti-fans who had been watching all night exploded.
Once it was confirmed that Lu Ziqi was referring to Lin Chumu and Lu Chaoqing, the CP forums felt like New Year’s Eve. Anti-fans, thinking they had found dirt, ran to both of their solo forums to stir up trouble. The solo fans were naturally furious, and a massive fan war broke out.
Lin Chumu was a rookie, so her fan base was no match for the veteran Lu Chaoqing’s, but that didn’t stop them from being sarcastic.
Lu fans mocked Lin Chumu for “clinging” to her fame, while Lin fans retaliated by posting the family background comparisons revealed earlier. Just as a new war was about to peak, Lu Chaoqing—who had just seen the trends after filming—deleted a long post she had prepared. She posted a simple caption with a photo of the two of them standing side-by-side watching the sunset: “I want to spend the rest of my life seeing more beautiful scenery with you.”
A moment later, Lin Chumu shared the post, adding a photo of their matching couple’s collarbone chains, warmed by the heat of their skin.
Coming out was something they had prepared for since the day they got together. Neither of them liked hiding things for long; they were waiting for the right moment. As a solo artist, Lu Chaoqing no longer had to worry about a group. She had never promised her fans she wouldn’t date, and whether they stayed or left after this revelation was their choice.
She couldn’t control others’ thoughts, but she refused to let her girlfriend suffer any grievances.
The faint scent of the woman’s body wash drifted into her nose in the warmth of the room—familiar and comforting. What she cherished most was that initial heartbeat.
She had thought she would live a muddled life in a strange world until the end, but fortunately, she had unexpectedly encountered this sudden, beautiful happiness.
The curtains blocked out the starlight outside. Lu Chaoqing covered Lin Chumu’s eyes and, following the familiar scent, stood on her tiptoes to press a kiss against her lips.
