The Ex-Wife-to-Be Is Acting Weird After Losing Her Memory - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Prelude One
She hadn’t expected Zhen Zhen to arrive so quickly.
Fu Ruyi discreetly stood up, briefly explained the patient’s condition, and then left the room with the assistant who had been standing respectfully beside her, leaving the space for the little couple to be alone.
After the others left, the air in the room grew more silent. Lu Jiayin awkwardly looked at the person by the door, unsure how to break the deadlock. Before she could react, she realized she had subconsciously stuffed the shrimp dumpling back into her mouth, trying to use eating to mask her awkwardness.
“Mmm… Cough, cough, cough…” In her haste, she ate too quickly and didn’t manage to bite the filling. The entire large shrimp got stuck in her throat, unable to go up or down, instantly making her face turn scarlet.
Just as Lu Jiayin thought she was about to choke to death, a hand reached out to her, precisely holding and offering a cup of milk tea.
As if granted a reprieve, she immediately grabbed the cup, not even noticing that her fingertips had brushed against the other person’s fingers. She tilted her head back and took several gulps, finally catching her breath.
After a long sigh of relief, Lu Jiayin looked up at the person in front of her. Her lips, glistening with moisture, were a soft pink, and there was a faint smear of milk at the corner of her mouth, making her look like a confused little kitten.
If Lu Jiayin looked like this and was caught on camera by the media, she would immediately be the top trending search, wouldn’t she? Zhen Zhen lowered her eyes, but the milk-stained lips were too much of an eyesore. She pulled out a tissue and handed it over: “Wipe your mouth first.”
Unexpectedly, the person on the hospital bed’s eyelashes fluttered. She stretched out her words softly and drawlingly: “My hand suddenly hurts—”
She deliberately scooted closer to the edge of the bed, raising her beautiful neck, signaling for Zhen Zhen to wipe her mouth for her.
This natural, spoiled attitude was such a huge contrast to her previously aloof and glamorous image that Zhen Zhen was slightly hesitant. However, Lu Jiayin’s eyes tracked her, filled with expectation, as if she would stare at her all night if Zhen Zhen refused to move.
Reluctantly, she finally reached out, gently pressing the tissue onto the red lips in front of her.
As her fingers touched those lips, she involuntarily slowed her movement. Separated by a layer of soft tissue, Lu Jiayin’s lips were still unbelievably soft. The sensation beneath her fingertips was soft and warm. For a fleeting moment, a moist flow of air landed on her fingertips, like a piece of lost rain.
Even though Zhen Zhen always maintained her composure, her heart still skipped a beat. After being wiped, the red lips in her vision turned a richer, more vibrant color and slowly curved into a beautiful arc: “Thank you, Wife.”
That word, “Wife,” made Zhen Zhen momentarily silent. She thought for a moment and then reminded her: “We are getting divorced tomorrow.”
“I know,” Lu Jiayin seemed deflated by her attitude. She lowered her head, and the scattered strands of hair on her head were illuminated by the lamp, making them look like a fluffy ball, like a pathetic little animal. “But… why are we getting divorced?”
Zhen Zhen looked at her wordlessly.
They hadn’t seen each other for three months. Lu Jiayin looked a bit thinner than before, and her face was pale. Because of the car accident, she also had a bandage wrapped around her wrist. She didn’t look like her usual cold and arrogant self at all.
“We were apart a lot because we were too busy with our respective jobs…” After a moment of silence, Zhen Zhen explained to her calmly, “The last time we met, you told me that continuing this marriage had no meaning, so you wanted to divorce me.”
In truth, their marriage had only happened with a bit of luck. After getting married, Lu Jiayin never displayed any intimacy with her in public. She was constantly busy filming, sometimes staying on set for months, while Zhen Zhen herself frequently had to travel abroad. As a result, their relationship naturally grew colder.
Thinking of this, Zhen Zhen lightly pursed her lips. Just as she was about to turn around, her sleeve was suddenly pulled.
“Your side of the story doesn’t count,” a soft touch came from her wrist, the faint warmth of Lu Jiayin’s fingertips. Lu Jiayin blinked and whispered, “After all, I’ve forgotten everything… Even if you push all the blame onto me, I won’t know.”
Hearing her words, Zhen Zhen answered with a slight hardening of her gaze: “I won’t lie to you.”
“But…” Her calm attitude made Lu Jiayin a little nervous. She unconsciously bit her lip, stammering for a long time, but still insisted, “That’s still not right. I have amnesia now. Even if we’re getting divorced, you have to wait until my memory recovers for it to be fair.”
The more she spoke, the guiltier she felt, but Zhen Zhen didn’t interrupt her. She listened patiently, her gaze quietly fixed on Lu Jiayin’s face, and she didn’t even pull her hand away, as if she were truly held back by that faint, soft strength.
“Alright, I agree.” After a long pause, the beautiful, thin lips parted, and a clear, gentle voice sounded, “If that’s what you truly want to request.”
She agreed just like that? Lu Jiayin’s heart eased. She subconsciously let go of her hand, revealing a relieved smile.
That radiant smile lingered in Zhen Zhen’s eyes for a moment.
“So you just handled Ms. Zhen like that?” Fu Ruyi was surprised, but then a little anxiousness surfaced. “Actually… that thing I said about getting her to help you with resources that day was just talk. You don’t have to force yourself if you don’t want to…”
Lu Jiayin, who was sitting on the edge of the bed eating breakfast, nearly choked on her manager’s statement: “Why wouldn’t I want to? Besides, I genuinely wasn’t doing it for that script.”
She put down her milk cup: “What was I thinking before? Having such a beautiful wife and letting it get to the point of divorce? I bet she’s lying to me. There’s no way I would have suggested the divorce.”
Regarding her confidence, Fu Ruyi ruthlessly exposed her: “I suggest you first consider what you were like before you say that…”
In the past two days, with the help of her manager, Lu Jiayin had looked through her old Weibo posts, interviews, and other information, finally gaining a clear understanding of her past self.
In short, the former Lu Jiayin was a tsundere (proud and cold).
Because she achieved fame early and was beautiful, she always presented a perfect image in public, earning the media’s praise as a “high-mountain flower.” However, this image also burdened her, leading to criticism that her “goddess persona” was too heavy, as if she was constantly tense and lacked authenticity.
When the news of her marriage finally broke, her partner was the well-regarded young talent of a tech company, which significantly boosted Lu Jiayin’s image. However, soon after the marriage, the couple ended up living apart for long periods due to their demanding work schedules, eventually leading to divorce.
Fortunately, things hadn’t reached the point of no return. Fu Ruyi encouraged her: “Although your personality used to be… somewhat extreme, the fact that Ms. Zhen agreed to postpone the divorce means there’s still some feeling between you. You need to seize this opportunity and try to rekindle your love with her.”
As if anticipating a beautiful future, Fu Ruyi grew excited again: “And with Ms. Zhen’s help, you’ll definitely get that new script. Then you can attend a film festival, and your third Best Actress award will be within reach…”
Lu Jiayin wasn’t too optimistic about that. Her medical results came back this morning. During the car accident, the impact on her skull caused a blood clot near her brainstem, which was pressing on her memory nerves, affecting her past memories and learned skills.
According to the doctor, the blood clot can only be absorbed on its own, which could take anywhere from a few days to three months. This meant she would have to wait a while longer before she could resume normal filming work.
“Oh… there’s one more thing. The company’s press releases all state that you fractured your arm in the car accident. Remember to keep the amnesia a secret,” Fu Ruyi reminded her again. “So we need to find you a new place to stay for this period.”
Lu Jiayin asked strangely, “Why do I need a separate place to stay? Did Zhen Zhen and I… not live together?”
Judging by Zhen Zhen’s reaction that night, their relationship couldn’t have been so bad that they had already separated, could it?
Fu Ruyi smiled: “You forgot? You did live together at first, but later, when Ms. Zhen was late coming back by two days after attending an overseas exhibition, you immediately moved out, claiming that it would look bad for you, a big star, to have news of you sleeping alone spread.”
Lu Jiayin was shocked by that reason for a second. It seemed her past self hadn’t made things easy for her beautiful wife. No wonder they had reached the point of divorce. She pondered for a moment and decided: “Since we’re not getting divorced, then… moving back into my wife’s house shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
