The Ex-Wife-to-Be Is Acting Weird After Losing Her Memory - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Prologue
Changning Private Hospital, VIP Wing.
The lights in the ward were soft and hazy. From the cabinet by the door all the way to the bedside, there were dozens of meticulously wrapped fresh flowers, all, without exception, Gloriosa lilies. A faint, elegant fragrance lingered in the air. Surrounded by the flowers, a slender figure lay on the hospital bed.
The excessively large patient gown made her figure appear even more graceful. She was lying sideways by the bedside, her thick, cascading black hair spread out behind her, catching a slightly dark blue sheen from the light. Probably feeling a bit bored, one leg was suspended in the air over the side of the bed, her delicate, pale calf exposed and gently swaying.
Suddenly, the door opened again, and a woman with neat short hair walked in. Her brow was slightly furrowed, and the phone in her hand occasionally vibrated with a “buzzing” sound, indicating she was clearly busy.
“The paparazzi, reporters, and fans are all gathered downstairs, staking out,” she sat in the chair by the bedside and took a sip of water from a cup. “Lu Jiayin, this time you are thoroughly famous; the attention is unprecedented.”
Hearing her agent’s words, the person on the bed turned her head. It was a face with exquisite features, long lashes slightly curled, and black, clear eyes that looked especially stunning and moving as they shimmered.
The next second, Lu Jiayin said regretfully: “It’s a pity I can’t remember anything.”
Just a few hours ago, she was in a car accident. When she woke up, she was already lying in the hospital room. The woman in front of her, named Fu Ruyi, claimed to be her agent, and she, named Lu Jiayin, was a currently popular young actress.
According to Fu Ruyi, at last night’s Golden Pearl Film and Television Gala, she lost the Best Actress award to another actress, leaving her in a less-than-pleasant mood. Then, this afternoon, she was in a car accident while driving home alone.
“Now, Actress Qi’s fans are relentlessly attacking you, saying you failed to win the award and resorted to malicious sensationalism, using the car crash to garner sympathy…” Fu Ruyi took a breath and continued to focus on tracking the trending searches. “Who knows who loves buying trending searches more; they have the nerve to call us out for sensationalism.”
Having been in the industry for over ten years, the most talented artist she had ever encountered was Lu Jiayin. Not only did her looks surpass many beautiful actresses, but her acting skills were also moldable. Fu Ruyi spent more than four years diligently managing her, promoting her from a rising star to the current “Alpine Flower” and “Double Gold Best Actress.”
She hadn’t expected such a setback just when she was about to make further progress.
“Sister Fu, don’t worry…” Seeing her agent looking worried, Lu Jiayin consoled her with sympathy. “What’s done is done. I will try my best not to cause you any more trouble.”
Fu Ruyi looked at her wistfully, unsure whether to be happy or sad.
“Our current situation is indeed a bit awkward,” she carefully told Lu Jiayin. “Ever since Yunxiang won the award, you haven’t encountered a suitable script. Your temperament is too aloof; popular sweet dramas won’t consider you, and big female lead roles are truly rare… Director Long’s new drama was perfect, but you…”
She looked at Lu Jiayin’s beautiful face and sighed: “If you could have lowered your stance sooner and gotten along well with Little President Zhen, a good script would have been just a word away…”
Little President Zhen? That was another unfamiliar name. Lu Jiayin blinked: “Who is Little President Zhen?”
Fu Ruyi looked at her, pausing for a few seconds before saying: “It doesn’t make much sense to bring her up now, after all, you two just signed the divorce application. Let me check the date… Oh, tomorrow is September 2nd. The application expires, and you can go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to finalize the divorce.”
Before she finished speaking, the person on the bed suddenly sat up: “I was married?”
Seeing her looking incredulous, Fu Ruyi nodded, pulled up a photo on her phone, and showed it to her, saying: “It seems you truly don’t remember anything. You’ve been married for two years, okay…”
The photo on the screen looked like a shot from an interview. A tall woman stood in front of a podium. She wore a meticulously tailored high-end suit, her shirt buttoned neatly all the way up. She was facing the camera, with refined red lips and long hair pulled back, exposing her slender neck. Her entire presence seemed very powerful.
Lu Jiayin also noticed that the backdrop of the podium was all in English. Among the group of blonde, blue-eyed award recipients, she was the only Chinese person.
Fu Ruyi continued to lament beside her: “Little President Zhen’s conditions are truly excellent. She’s the designated heir of the Zhen family, yet she’s also incredibly capable on her own. The unmanned driving technology of her Tianfeng Technology has nearly won all the international awards in the past two years… Now the trend is all about ‘Strengthening the Nation through Technology.’ With your status, how perfect would it be to star in a major patriotic film…”
She sighed again: “Let’s not talk about this. Everyone else is dying to network with her, but you, you were so obstinate, constantly pushing her away and giving her a cold shoulder whenever you met. Now that you’ve had an accident and are hospitalized, I haven’t even dared to notify her…”
After rambling on for a while, Fu Ruyi suddenly noticed that Lu Jiayin hadn’t spoken for a long time but was scrolling and searching for something on the screen. She couldn’t help but nudge the person in front of her: “What are you looking for?”
“Searching for photos of Zhen Zhen.” Lu Jiayin rapidly swiped her phone. There were many reports about Zhen Zhen online, but very few photos. Clearly, this new tech magnate didn’t much like being photographed. She regretfully put down the phone, then brightened up as if she had just remembered something.
“Why don’t you still give her a call,” she stared at her agent with sparkling eyes. “Just say my injury is very, very serious!”
Fu Ruyi was startled: “What… what are you planning to do?”
“I want to see my wife.” Lu Jiayin earnestly handed the phone back to her. “It would be a shame not to take advantage of the time to look at such a beautiful wife before the divorce.”
Half an hour later, a black Bentley sedan drove through the night and slowly entered the gates of Changning Hospital.
The reporters stationed at the hospital entrance perked up. Just as they were about to raise their cameras, a colleague nearby cautioned: “Look at the license plate. It’s useless to take pictures; they’ll be taken down.”
The reporter then noticed the sequence of repeated “7”s on the license plate and clicked his tongue: “As expected of the most high-end private hospital in the whole city. Even people from the Zhen Group are customers here.”
The more experienced reporter laughed: “You clearly don’t pay attention to the financial sector. The Zhen family owns this hospital. However, this is interesting… It seems Lu Jiayin is not as neglected as the rumors claim.”
Hearing his words, the first reporter reconsidered, suddenly realizing: “Ah, now that you mention it, I remember. The Zhen family… isn’t that Actress Lu’s partner?”
While they were gossiping, the Bentley had safely parked at the hospital entrance. The passenger door opened, and a young person in a business suit, looking like an assistant, stepped out. He then went around to the rear door and pulled it open.
A graceful figure stepped out of the car, nodding courteously to the crowd already waiting at the entrance.
She was tall, wearing a dark blue standing-collar shirt and black trousers. Two strands of her long hair, pulled up into a knot, fell down and gently swayed by her beautiful jawline. She wore silver-rimmed crystal glasses on her prominent nose, making her slightly narrow willow eyes appear exceptionally clear.
The person in charge of the inpatient department enthusiastically stepped forward: “Little President Zhen, you’ve arrived.”
He had received notification that morning that President Zhen’s wife had been admitted to the VIP ward, but he had only routinely instructed the floor butler to pay extra attention. After all, this Actress Lu had been to the hospital a few times before, and President Zhen had never accompanied her.
He hadn’t expected her to show up this time.
The person in charge’s smile widened. He dutifully reported: “Miss Lu is in the VIP ward on the fifth floor. We have assigned the best nurse, and the late-night snack was specifically ordered from ‘Yiting’…”
Zhen Zhen paused slightly. Her eyes behind the glasses narrowed a bit, seemingly surprised: “Late-night snack?”
Didn’t they say the injury was extremely serious?
The assistant beside her looked at Zhen Zhen’s expression and also felt some doubt. After all, when he received the agent’s call, the caller’s voice was so nervous it sounded like Miss Lu was on the verge of death. She was even supposedly calling out President Zhen’s name while in a coma, a truly moving display of deep affection.
“I’ll go see her.” Her red lips parted, and she spoke a simple sentence. Zhen Zhen didn’t dwell on the snack issue and instead strode toward the patient area.
Lu Jiayin’s ward was in the deepest part of the VIP section. At this moment, all the flower bouquets on the bedside table had been moved to the doorway, replaced by a steaming array of various foods: shrimp dumplings, quicksand buns, steamed siu mai… filling the entire table.
“Take it easy while you eat.” Fu Ruyi looked at her with worry. “Although you’ve been granted three months of leave, you have a physique that gains weight easily. You’ll be crying in the gym later.”
Lu Jiayin reluctantly put down the shrimp dumpling in her hand: “It’s your fault for telling me I haven’t eaten for 48 hours. I didn’t feel anything when I didn’t know, but now I’m starving and panicking.”
“That’s because you insisted on competing with Actress Qi for the best dressed on the red carpet,” Fu Ruyi argued confidently. “When it comes to looks, you always have iron-clad willpower!”
Lu Jiayin was known to be extremely concerned about her “goddess” image, almost to the point of being demanding. Not a single fault could be found; her makeup, hair, styling, and demeanor always had to be impeccable.
She wasn’t sure if Lu Jiayin’s current state was a sign of becoming more normal or more abnormal. Before Fu Ruyi could find the answer, she heard footsteps outside the door, and then the main door opened.
Lu Jiayin stared at the beautiful young woman in front of her, momentarily stunned.
Zhen Zhen stood composedly amidst the scattered roses on the floor. Her clear, elegant eyebrows were softly illuminated by the light. She looked down at Lu Jiayin and the shrimp dumpling in her hand, the corner of her lips curving slightly upward.
Lu Jiayin was momentarily distracted by her smile. Although the person in the photo was clear enough, seeing her standing there in the flesh made her feel completely bewildered.
Her ex-wife-to-be was indeed very beautiful, and… her gaze fell upon the glasses that possessed an aesthetic of severe abstinence. This outfit somehow gave her a strange impulse to do something naughty to her…
