- The Eleventh Year of Making Hate with My Lover
- Chapter 2 - Arch-Nemesis—"Have we only been divorced for a few years, and you’ve already started pretending to be a stranger?"
The sound of the seawater crashing against the reef drowned out the last few words, and Shen Wang didn’t hear them clearly.
He pursed his lips and looked up at the man, his mind momentarily blank how could this creature turn into a human?
In the distance, the roar of search drones approached. The beam of a searchlight swept across the surface of the sea, and the man standing over him looked up slightly. He extended both hands, his fingertips releasing lightning-like energy spheres that violently destroyed the drones.
“……” That is indeed a very dangerous combat weapon.
The man’s face darkened. Seeming to want to avoid being tracked, he grabbed Shen Wang by the collar, hauled him up from the ground, and dragged him forward.
“Where are we going?” Shen Wang scanned his surroundings. Beneath the moonlight, the black seawater crashed against the reefs. It was barren all around; they seemed to have drifted onto a deserted island.
The man didn’t speak. His knuckles, gripping Shen Wang, were white from the pressure, as if he were struggling to endure something. If Shen Wang looked closely, he would see the man’s hands trembling slightly.
They stepped heavily on the sand and rocks, walking for about five minutes before hiding in a mountain cave.
The man efficiently picked up some dead branches, and finally spoke: “Do you have a lighter?”
Shen Wang leaned against the stone wall and felt his pockets; they must have fallen out when he landed in the water.
The man lowered his beautiful eyelashes and simply reached out, releasing a small ball of lightning that struck the pile of branches. Black smoke rose, and immediately, flames flared up. “No need.”
“……” Able to shoot down drones and start a fire very practical.
As the man crouched down to tend to the embers, a very thin red string dangling from his collar flickered, and a silver ring hanging from it glinted.
That thing looks familiar. Shen Wang narrowed his eyes.
The man seemed to treasure the object; he glanced down at it with lowered eyes and immediately held it with his free hand to warm it before tucking it back against his chest.
Once the fire was burning brightly, the surroundings grew clearer. The man took off his coat and wrung it out carefully. Shen Wang observed him unhurriedly; the man’s perfect, jade-like facial features were fully revealed in the firelight. Only now did he realize that the man looked somewhat familiar.
The face from his dreams seemed to overlap with this one…
[“Shen Wang, I hate you to death…”]
Hate you to death…
He didn’t have his memories from before he died, but the figure that had haunted his dreams so many times didn’t need to be questioned that was undoubtedly his arch-nemesis.
Shen Wang felt his blood rush to his head, and his whole body gave a slight shiver. He maintained an expressionless face, but a storm raged in his heart. He called the system.
[I think I might be a little dead.]
The system was confused: [?]
[This task target of yours, he and I have a grudge.]
The system paused, analyzing: [But you need him right now, both to complete the task and for spiritual soothing.]
[I think…] Before he could finish his conversation with the system, the man beside him put his coat back on and said, “I’m going to find something to eat.”
What could he possibly find to eat in this pitch-black darkness… But Shen Wang realized he was actually quite hungry.
It’s strange. He didn’t ask Shen Wang why he came, nor did he ask what he wanted to do; it was as if he already knew everything.
Shen Wang didn’t say a word, lying still. After a while, he lifted his clothes to simply treat his wounds, and then went to the mouth of the cave. There was a thin, film-like barrier at the entrance, but he knew brute force couldn’t break it.
Before going out, the man had specially sealed the entrance with his abilities, seemingly to prevent Shen Wang from escaping.
Should I go or stay?
Shen Wang was confident he could break this small barrier; it would just cost him a little more spiritual energy. But what about his rioting spiritual energy? What about the self-destruct program in his spiritual sea?
Shen Wang took a deep breath and asked: [Do you have any information on him?]
The system searched for a while and popped up a panel before him. Shen Wang scanned it briefly.
Wu Que… the heir of the Wu family, number one in the Alliance, a top-tier Spirit-Awakening Master of the Tianshu Base… It was basically all praise.
He is the heir to the Wu family; why would his own family imprison him? Could it be that his jellyfish mimic form is unstable and needs to be controlled? Shen Wang speculated.
He had seen Spirit-Awakening Masters who could perform biological mimicry, but none had ever achieved a complete form.
[That… Host, there is one more thing…]
[Speak.]
[Wu Que is also your…] The system stammered. Just then, Wu Que returned carrying something, so when Shen Wang asked again, the system went silent.
My what?
Wu Que tossed a few wild fruits over, along with a lively, flopping fish.
“You don’t want it?” Shen Wang was surprised; he had only brought back one, but he threw it directly to him.
Wu Que frowned, looking disgusted: “It’s fishy.”
Shen Wang took the fish from his enemy and skewered it over the fire. His heart was a chaotic mix of emotions. He had been reborn into a new body; Wu Que shouldn’t be able to recognize him. If he knew…
Shen Wang shook his head. After all, his memories were incomplete; he didn’t know what kind of deep-seated hatred existed between them. In his dreams, or rather, in his past life, that intense hatred used to wake him up frequently. But after dreaming so much, he had grown used to it.
Wu Que nibbled on a fruit, his whole person radiating deep exhaustion. He stared at Shen Wang’s face and said: “We’ll leave at daybreak. We cannot stay here for long.”
Shen Wang subconsciously replied: “Who said I was going with you?”
The system reminded him again: [Host, you really need him.]
[Shut up.]
Wu Que raised his eyelids to look at him: “You are now the Wu family’s number one wanted criminal. Or do you want to be dragged back?” He smiled slightly: “The Wu family has quite a knack for torturing people.”
Shen Wang fell silent. It was true; thanks to this system’s scheming, they were now forced to be bound together.
The roasted fish gave off a fragrant aroma. Shen Wang lowered his head.
Forget it. I’ll take it one step at a time. I’ve lived these past few months this way anyway. I’ve already died once what is there to fear?
Shen Wang turned his head, preparing to take a bite. Before he did, he deliberately held it out: “You really don’t want any?” Although there were no seasonings, the roasted fish meat had a very natural flavor. To someone with a bland palate like him, it was just right.
Wu Que was drying his coat. Hearing this, he said impatiently: “If I give it to you, just eat it. So many words.”
“……” He’s quite fierce. Not as cute as he was as a jellyfish.
After satisfying his hunger, the sensation of fullness improved Shen Wang’s mood significantly. He even found the person across from him slightly more pleasing to the eye, noting how the man’s snow-white hair shone with a faint warmth in the firelight.
The fire seemed to grow brighter, casting double images of the person in front of him.
Shen Wang leaned against the rock with his legs bent. He felt a burning heat spreading from his abdomen to his neck, making his whole body dizzy.
He felt something was wrong. He touched the wound on his waist; the blood had long since seeped out and stuck to his clothes. Because he was wearing black, it hadn’t been very noticeable.
That was the wound he received from the traps when breaking into the Wu residence. It seemed there was some chronic poison inside.
Shen Wang took out the dagger he was carrying, intending to continue debriding the wound, but his hand was unsteady. His vision grew even blurrier; he didn’t even notice Wu Que walking over.
Wu Que still had a grumpy look on his face, but his movements were gentle when he crouched down. He first patted Shen Wang’s face; the cold touch made Shen Wang want to lean in.
“A low fever.” That cold hand touched his forehead, trailed down to his chest, and then pulled away, taking the dagger from Shen Wang’s other hand.
The hem of his shirt was lifted, revealing a patch of firm, thin muscle. Wu Que reached out and touched it before turning his attention to the abdominal wound.
“……” Where are you touching?
The wound he had crudely bandaged earlier had split open, and black blood began to flow out. Wu Que turned the knife in his hand and heated it over the fire for a moment.
Shen Wang subconsciously struggled to get up, but his body was weak. Wu Que held him down, pressing his bare, long legs against Shen Wang’s.
“Don’t move. It will be over soon.” To prevent Shen Wang from biting his tongue, he shoved a dead branch into his mouth.
Shen Wang bit the branch, watching him expressionlessly.
Wu Que thought for a moment, sighed, pulled the branch from Shen Wang’s mouth, leaned his upper body over, and breathed onto Shen Wang’s neck, tickling him slightly.
Wu Que licked his lips and, without hesitation, bit into Shen Wang’s neck.
“……”
“You’re a fucking dog, aren’t you…” His cursing grew quieter.
C, this dead jellyfish is poisonous.
The person before him was half-dreaming and half-awake from the trace of toxin. Wu Que looked at the tooth marks on his neck, his expression dark and unclear: “This way, it won’t hurt anymore.”
He picked up the dagger and began to focus on treating the wound. He didn’t know whether to say the man had great stamina or what; the wound had deteriorated to this point, yet just a second ago, he had been jumping around and still had the energy to curse at him.
After cleaning the wound, he tore a long strip of cloth from his own hem and wrapped it around Shen Wang’s waist.
Shen Wang had already half-fainted, his eyes not completely closed, his eyelashes casting a small shadow on his face. Wu Que supported his chin, staring at him without blinking.
The black-haired, black-eyed youth before him had very clean and sharp brows and eyes; his features were keen. There was a faint patch of blue under his lower eyelids. When he was expressionless, he looked slightly cold and detached.
His lips were dry, the color naturally light, and lacking blood from the injury, they were slightly peeling, like a petal that had just fallen and lacked water.
Wu Que stared at his face for a long while before finally shifting his gaze to the communication terminal on his wrist.
He opened the terminal interface and requested a connection to a long-forgotten address.
[This is Monitoring Chief Wu Que of District 3. Please reply upon receipt…]
When Shen Wang woke up again, his body felt unexpectedly light, and the wound on his waist had been wrapped properly.
He raised his eyes. Wu Que was leaning against the stone wall opposite, his eyes lowered, calmly wiping his fingers. The dried bloodstains made his knuckles look even paler.
Although he always had a grumpy face and seemed like he didn’t want to bother with him, he had gone to find food and bandage his wounds… surely that couldn’t be just because he had dragged him out of the culture tank?
Shen Wang remembered the Wu family elder calling him “Mr. Shen.” Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck, and he asked: “Do you know me?”
Wu Que paused, then revealed his snow-white teeth in a malicious grin: “Know you? That’s putting it mildly.”
“Have we only been divorced for a few years, and you’ve already started pretending to be a stranger? Ex-husband.”
Divorced… ex-husband…
These two words made his eyes go black, and the feeling of dizziness from before threatened to return.
Shen Wang suddenly understood why the system had been stammering earlier.
[Wu Que is also your…]
Your ex-wife.
He pressed his lips together in silence, silently sorting out the relationship: So, the original owner of this body I’ve taken over was married to my arch-nemesis?
[System, I want to die.]
System: [You better endure it.]
Shen Wang started acting, saying nonchalantly: “I injured my head during a mission earlier and lost my memories.” In truth, this was also the truth. Although he had possessed the original owner, he hadn’t inherited his memories at all; how could he know what kind of entanglement existed between these two people?
Wu Que, however, wasn’t surprised; he just smiled, a mocking glint in his eyes.
He suddenly curled the corner of his lips: “It doesn’t matter. You just need to remember that the divorce settlement totaled 8 million… and you still owe half. Remember to transfer it to me on time every month.”
Shen Wang’s eyes went black: [System, why don’t you just initiate the self-destruct program right now?]
[……]
What kind of unforgivable mistake could lead to such a massive compensation?
Infidelity? Bigamy? Domestic violence?
Shen Wang’s mouth twitched. It seemed the original owner had also lost half his spiritual core, was half-crippled, and still had to pay his ex-wife a huge sum every month.
No wonder the original owner died… his life was hopeless.
