- Chapter 8 - What Else Are You Hiding From Me?!
He could not quite remember what was said afterward, but Yi Xuan finally relented. He even accepted the friend request right in front of Misert.
There was no helping it; Yi Xuan was just a guy who softened way too easily. Even though he knew this would only make him sink deeper, his hand moved on its own.
“Sigh…”
This was the umpteenth time Little Dingdang had heard its master sigh today. Ever since the master’s Ci Jun left, he had become like this. It had searched its database for a long time but could not find a suitable way to comfort him.
“Master, I heard that eating desserts can improve one’s mood. I have baked some cookies and small cakes for you. Would you like to try some?”
Before Yi Xuan could sigh again, Little Dingdang brought the desserts over.
It placed the treats one by one onto the bed-table, set out a small fork, and, fearing Yi Xuan might get tired of the sweets, even brought some fruit.
Considering Yi Xuan had not eaten lunch, it even served a full meal along with it.
It was fortunate that when they customized the bed-table, they made it large enough; otherwise, there would not have been enough space for the little robot to fill it all up.
Yi Xuan propped his chin on his hand, watching Little Dingdang act like a little squirrel, meticulously filling the table. He did not stop it; strangely, his mood improved slightly.
In fact, such self-assertive behavior from a small robot was not usually permitted. Even the newer models were programmed to prohibit this, but because Little Dingdang was an outdated model, it had conveniently bypassed these settings.
“You certainly know how to look out for others.”
It was already 4:00 PM. He had not had his first meal of the day, and after worrying about so many things earlier, he realized he was actually quite hungry.
He leaned on his hand and picked up some of the stir-fried pork with green peppers nearest to him, popping a piece into his mouth.
The little robot’s cooking was pre-programmed, standardized and flawless, but tasting it for the first time still felt quite novel. It was not a particularly unique flavor, but for a hungry stomach, it was just right.
The dishes had been freshly cooked when Yi Xuan woke up, but after a short delay, the green peppers had lost some of their crispness from being reheated. Even so, it was still delicious.
Yi Xuan was not very picky about food as long as it was edible, so he did not demand anything special, and he enjoyed the robot-cooked meal heartily.
Aside from the green pepper pork, the little robot had also made tomato with eggs and stir-fried beef, all very home-style dishes.
“Not bad at all,” Yi Xuan said, patting Little Dingdang’s smooth head.
“(*/w*)”
“Hee hee, thank you for the praise, Master.”
Having been complimented, the little robot’s screen immediately flashed a shy, happy expression. Honestly, it was actually quite cute.
“Alright, go do whatever you want. I am here…”
“Beep. Beep.”
Yi Xuan’s voice was interrupted by his terminal ringing.
He lowered his head and tapped the terminal, projecting a holographic screen into the air as the call connected.
“Yi Xuan, I heard you moved out to live on your own?” The bug on the other side of the screen had a messy mop of chestnut-colored curly hair. Based on his background, it looked like he was sitting on his own bed. When he saw Yi Xuan answer, he waved excitedly.
“Yeah, moved out yesterday.”
“My god, that is so cool! Are you living alone? Or with your Ci Jun?” After asking, he even playfully peered around behind Yi Xuan as if trying to look over his shoulder.
“What are you thinking? Of course, I am living alone. Why, do you want to come over and hang out?” Yi Xuan teased.
“Of course, I do! You really know how to keep secrets, do you not? Even I had to find out from someone else that you moved. Are we still best friends or what?!” Mo Er pouted, crossing his arms and huffing indignantly.
“Of course, we are, of course we are,” Yi Xuan replied with a smile.
“Then you better tell me everything first from now on!”
“Alright, alright, do not be mad. Getting angry makes it harder to grow tall,” Yi Xuan propped his chin on his hand, teasing him with an indulgent look.
“Yi Xuan! Do! Not! You! Dare! Call! Me! Short! 170cm is not short! 170cm will rule the world!”
“If you talk about me again, I am not playing with you anymore!”
Seeing Mo Er was about to fly off the handle, Yi Xuan quickly placated him: “Okay, okay, you are not short. Are you coming over later?”
“I am! And not only am I coming, but I am also taking you out shopping! We are going to shop until we drop today! You are going with me! No refusing allowed!” Mo Er pouted, deciding to let the matter go.
Yi Xuan knew he was in the wrong, so he agreed decisively: “Fine, I will go with you.”
“By the way, I heard your family set up a Ci Jun for you?” Seeing Yi Xuan agree, Mo Er relaxed and leaned back against his headboard.
“Yeah, they did.”
“?”
“When did this happen? Why did you not mention it? No, wait; if I did not ask, were you just never going to say anything?” Regarding this, Mo Er was surprised, but not overly so. He was more annoyed that Yi Xuan had not told him; the emotional reaction was even less intense than when he learned about the move.
“I just found out myself. When my stepfather mentioned finding one for me last time, I did not pay much attention to it.”
That was the truth; Yi Xuan was not pulling his leg.
“Ah? Why did you agree so fast?”
“Besides, are you not still a minor? Why the rush?”
Yi Xuan smiled: “It is no big deal. It was going to happen sooner or later. Plus, is your family not looking for a Ci Jun for you too?”
“Anyway, it is not certain it will even work out…”
“What?” The last sentence was spoken so softly that Mo Er did not catch it.
“Nothing. When are you planning to come over?”
“Right now. Wait for me!”
In bug society, male bugs usually did not talk much about Ci Jun. They would say a couple of words and move on. Most of them tended to look down on Ci Jun; they were often more concerned with whether there were better gems at the auction house or if there were any new games available on the terminal.
“Do not rush, it is still early. Take your time getting ready.”
“Do not even try it. Who knows if you will tell me something else later, like, ‘How about we do not go? I do not want to move.'”
“How many times have you used that lousy excuse to bail on me? How many times have you stood me up?”
“I do not even want to start talking about you.”
Mo Er gave him a look that said, If you lie to me again, you are dead.
“…….Has our trust really dropped to this level?” Yi Xuan clutched his chest, looking heartbroken.
“Sorry, we do not have that kind of thing between us,” Mo Er said, his baby face dead serious as he delivered the heartless blow.
“……You are really mean.”
“Oh, you pigeon-player.”
