- Chapter 3 - Slipping the Room Key Once More
When Liu Yu arrived at the venue, Lou Qingshuang was still in the meeting room. Bai Wan had rushed over as well.
“Qingshuang, those people didn’t bully you, did they?” Bai Wan started flinging accusations and muddying the waters the second she walked through the door.
“Team Leader Zhao, I need to consult with my colleague. Please give us a few minutes,” Lou Qingshuang said, standing up and walking over to Zhao Shuoshuo, the person in charge of their designated zone.
“Alright, but make it quick.” Zhao Shuoshuo suppressed her unsightly expression. She knew full well that they had run straight into a ruthless corporate war.
She just hadn’t expected the opposing party to deliberately leak the accusations half an hour before the results were scheduled to be released. It left the organizers in a incredibly passive position.
Zhao Shuoshuo looked at the documents in her hands, waiting for word from upper management on whether to disqualify both parties or just one of them.
Before Lou Qingshuang and Bai Wan could even finish their discussion, Zhao Shuoshuo received the phone call. Neither side was to be disqualified, they were to let the public outcry and the media heat ferment.
Zhao Shuoshuo indicated her understanding. She waited for Lou Qingshuang and Bai Wan to finish talking, her gaze inconspicuously sweeping over the representatives from the Lan Dai Corporation.
The people from Lan Dai carried blank expressions, as if they were utterly furious about this plagiarism incident.
But in matters like this, who could really say for sure?
Zhao Shuoshuo shut out the outside noise and focused solely on her own duties.
When Lou Qingshuang and Bai Wan returned, Zhao Shuoshuo picked up her documents and announced directly, “The results are about to be published. Please go back and view your scores.” With that, she turned and left.
Zhao Shuoshuo’s words were directed at both Lou Qingshuang and the head of the Lan Dai Corporation.
The representatives from both companies stood up. The person in charge from Lan Dai still wanted to ask why the plagiarizer’s results and qualifications weren’t being revoked, this completely disrupted their original plan.
But Zhao Shuoshuo acted as if she were stone deaf and slipped away like oil on water; she had absolutely no intention of getting entangled in this mess.
Lou Qingshuang and Bai Wan exchanged a glance, feeling an immense pressure weighing down on them. Yet, at this point, they could only head back and wait for the results.
“The comments online are vicious. Don’t go on the internet for the next few days,” Bai Wan said. The pressure on her was heavy, but she remained confident. “We will pull the surveillance footage, root out the inside mole, and take them to court. Besides, we still have the original research data and the experiment videos.”
“I’m fine.” Lou Qingshuang shook her head. The situation had just escalated too quickly, causing the blood to rush to her head and leaving her slightly dizzy.
Meanwhile, Liu Yu was sitting in her private lounge sipping tea.
“Go invite Ms. Lou over for a cup of tea,” she instructed her assistant.
Liu Yu was dressed as usual in a form-fitting black suit with sharply tailored trousers. Her hair was swept up, exuding an immense, commanding aura that carried a hint of ascetic restraint. Her expression was as placid as ever, yet her features were breathtakingly beautiful.
Her beauty possessed a distinct, dominant edge, a soul-capturing arrogance that belonged only to a true ruler in the upper echelons of society.
When Lou Qingshuang was invited to leave, Bai Wan’s eyes were filled with deep worry. Although she greatly respected Chairman Liu, Chairman Liu’s ruthless and cold-blooded methods were notoriously terrifying.
As for any hidden motives like the “unspoken rules” of entertainment and business, Bai Wan never even considered it. In Chairman Liu’s eyes, any human being was merely a stumbling block to her work.
She looked down on anyone consumed by romance and love with absolute equality, this was a well-known fact that had already spread across the entirety of Lu City.
“If Chairman Liu asks you anything, just answer honestly,” Bai Wan said, squeezing Lou Qingshuang’s palm. Lou Qingshuang nodded and followed the secretary out.
The assistant’s secretary led Lou Qingshuang to a highly secluded lounge. “After you,” the secretary said, making an inviting gesture without stepping inside herself.
Lou Qingshuang gave her a deliberate look. “Aren’t you coming in?”
The secretary smiled. “The Chairman just wants to understand the situation from you. Don’t worry, it’s fine.”
Lou Qingshuang clenched her fingers tighter once again. She nodded properly, she didn’t dare refuse Liu Yu’s invitation.
Stepping into the lounge, she found the temperature and humidity perfectly regulated. Liu Yu was sitting on the sofa, her sharp gaze snapping over to lock onto her.
Facing someone with such a powerful aura directly for the first time, Lou Qingshuang instinctively wanted to take a step back, but she forced herself to stand her ground.
“Come, have a seat.” Liu Yu’s voice was low, devoid of any high and mighty condescension. She simply smiled faintly, elegantly gesturing for her to come over.
Lou Qingshuang walked over slowly and took a seat on the sofa adjacent to Liu Yu. A proper smile, neither flattering nor timid, formed on her face. “Did Chairman Liu bring me here to ask about something specific?”
Right in front of Lou Qingshuang, Liu Yu poured a cup of tea and unhurriedly pushed it over, placing it right before her.
“The room card I gave you, did you throw it away?”
Liu Yu’s bluntness caught Lou Qingshuang entirely off guard. She stood up instantly, a trace of panic slipping into her tone. “I don’t know what you are talking about, Chairman Liu.”
Liu Yu stood up as well. She stood more than a full head taller than Lou Qingshuang, and she began to close the distance between them slowly. Lou Qingshuang instinctively backed away. As one advanced, the other retreated.
“I asked,” Liu Yu repeated, “did you throw away my hotel room card?”
Looking at the approaching woman, Lou Qingshuang forced herself to maintain her composure. “I don’t understand what you mean, Chairman Liu. I already have a fiancée, and we are getting married soon.”
“Heh.” Liu Yu let out a soft chuckle. She kept moving forward until Lou Qingshuang had retreated as far as she could go. Just as Lou Qingshuang was looking around for something to defend herself with, Liu Yu grabbed her by the wrist. She raised Lou Qingshuang’s hand and pulled her firmly into her embrace, their bodies colliding.
Liu Yu leaned her head down, leaning into her ear to catch her scent once more. “The scent of roses really is wonderful.”
This time, genuine terror struck Lou Qingshuang. She had just taken an inhibitor shot, it should have been impossible for her pheromones to leak.
Yet Liu Yu’s nose pressed closer in an incredibly intrusive manner. She truly, deeply loved this scent. Her hot breath brushed against Lou Qingshuang’s neck, causing Lou Qingshuang to struggle violently. “Let go of me! You are being entirely too insulting!”
Furious, Lou Qingshuang used her free hand to press hard against Liu Yu’s chest, trying to push her away.
Liu Yu looked down at the hand on her chest and said with a half-smile, “It seems like you are the one being rather forward.”
Lou Qingshuang took a deep breath, involuntarily inhaling the aura that enveloped her from Liu Yu’s body—it was the faint, crisp scent of frosted roses.
“Chairman Liu, what exactly do you want?” Lou Qingshuang went so far as to pin the blame for the sudden plagiarism scandal entirely on Liu Yu.
“Nothing in particular. I’ve simply set my sights on you.” Liu Yu released Lou Qingshuang’s hand, a look of absolute certainty spreading across her face. Anyone she chose would inevitably become hers.
“Was today’s incident your doing as well?” Lou Qingshuang stared deeply at her.
Liu Yu merely smiled without offering a verbal answer. She slid a card directly into Lou Qingshuang’s hand. “Don’t throw it away this time. You’re going to need it.”
In that exact instant, the color drained completely from Lou Qingshuang’s face, leaving her body icy cold. Liu Yu’s behavior was a tacit admission, she was behind it all.
