- Chapter 11 - 0.1% Chance? So What?
Shen Shiqing had initially intended to intimidate Shen Muyun, but after seeing the confident expression on Shen Muyun’s face, he could not help but feel a surge of unease. He was not sure if the previous rumors were true or false.
A few days ago, he had finally managed to get close to Shen Liuyun and learned that Shen Muyun had fallen from a horse as a child. He was not certain if those childhood events still carried any weight now.
Shen Muyun glanced at the stables behind him. Himi was grazing leisurely. As if sensing something, Himi looked toward Shen Muyun, flicked its mane, and even closed its eyes in contentment, letting out a soft hum. It seemed he really had a natural connection with this horse.
“Oh? So confident, Shen Muyun? Haven’t you heard that ‘better safe than sorry’ is the way to live for ten thousand years? Trying to act tough is not a good thing. If you admit defeat now, at the very least, you will not have to humiliate yourself in front of so many people. I heard you fell from a horse when you were a child.”
Shen Shiqing held his head high, acting disdainful as if he had already won. Tsk, was reality really like that?
Shen Muyun curled his lip. It was funny that such trivial, baseless things could even be dug up and used against him. To them, even the most insignificant matter counted as intelligence.
“How should I put this? Childhood things. Who has not had a few bumps and bruises? I have already forgotten about it. Was it not just a fall? Does Young Master Zhou want to describe it to me in detail? I was just a bit mischievous; for me, it was just entertainment, and happiness comes first. Do you not agree, Young Master Zhou? Right?”
Shen Shiqing was so choked by Shen Muyun’s sharp tongue that the words stuck in his throat. He let out a cold snort, “We will see.”
As he left, Shen Shiqing cast a surreptitious glance at Shen Muyun’s back. He felt he could not lose; deep down, some rather underhanded thoughts began to fester.
The horse-riding accident was a matter from many years ago. The original owner’s memories were hazy, and besides, he had no phobia of horses now. Perhaps the reason he did not want to race was simply a matter of competitiveness; losing would be embarrassing, but it was not a life-or-death situation. Still, to be safe, he had to ask the System.
“System, System, help me check the details of Shen Muyun’s horse accident. I need comprehensive information, with the causes and consequences clearly explained.”
“Host, biubiubiu! Sending you love~”
A small peach heart flashed on the screen. Cute? No, it was not cute; it was nauseating.
“Information retrieved! Transmitted to your WeChat. Ding-dong, darling, make sure to check it.”
“Ugh…” Shen Muyun made a vomiting gesture. “System, can you be normal? Do not be so disgusting.”
“I am in a good mood today, la-la-la. See for yourself; transmission speed at 100%.”
Looking at the file on his phone, Shen Muyun saw that he had indeed fallen off a horse at the age of six at the Trapa Racecourse. However, it was only a soft tissue contusion, and after two weeks of recovery, the rumors about him having a phobia of horse racing began to spread. Shen Muyun himself had never said such a thing. Truly, rumors stop at the wise!
Shen Muyun let out a breath of relief. That really was not a big deal. Whatever; it was over twenty years ago. Who would actually care about such nonsense? Furthermore, inspecting the family business was only natural.
“You are fast when you want to be. I might reward you with something since you are in a good mood and I am feeling pretty good myself.”
The System spun in the air, delighted. “Host, Host, what are you going to reward me with?”
“Actually, I have not decided yet.”
“I have a wish: I hope you can clear the levels successfully, Host. I do not want to watch you be annihilated, and I do not want you to just disappear inexplicably. I am an improved 2.0 version, and with the powerful Space-Time Administration as backup, I hope everything goes smoothly for you.”
Shen Muyun smiled, but one thing was certain: this system had a natural dull attribute—specifically, it was quite dim-witted.
Shen Muyun frowned. This was the second time he had heard of the Space-Time Administration. What exactly was this organization?
“System, can you tell me about the Space-Time Administration?”
Before the System could answer, a commotion arose behind him.
“Muyun, why are you still here? Have you had breakfast?”
Shen Muyun turned around to see Shen Liuyun, who usually wore black suits, wearing a chestnut-colored casual outfit, walking toward him with one hand in his pocket.
Lu Huainan, whom he had met earlier, was following behind. Was he not leaving? Did he run into Shen Liuyun and turn back?
Shen Muyun waved at the System, and it tactfully disappeared into thin air. Even if he could not see it, muttering to thin air would inevitably attract unwanted attention.
“Yes, Big Brother. Good morning. Huainan, we meet again.”
Lu Huainan gave Shen Muyun a gentle smile. “Brother Yun, how is the horse selection going?”
Shen Liuyun raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smile. “I thought you two were not close. I was preparing to play matchmaker, but you have never called me brother, yet you address Muyun so affectionately.”
“It is just a form of address. I think you would not mind, Liuyun.”
Shen Liuyun nodded; he truly did not mind the address.
Shen Muyun smiled awkwardly. “Yes, it is just a form of address. As for the horse, it is the one you just saw. It feels like fate, my first instinct.”
Shen Liuyun’s eyes darkened. He had heard from Lu Huainan on the way that Shen Muyun had chosen a horse named Himi. It was a pony born two years ago, rarely trained, and timid. Shen Muyun’s chances of winning were already slim; choosing such a horse might actually lead to a loss.
“Muyun, why do you not let me help you choose again? A more experienced racehorse would be more helpful to you, making it easier to handle unexpected situations without causing stress responses.”
Shen Muyun shook his head. Since this was his choice, he would not give up.
Lu Huainan pulled Shen Liuyun’s arm and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Liuyun, since he has already decided, let it be. Maybe they really do have a connection. Otherwise, out of thousands of horses in the stable, why would he see that one first?”
Before Shen Liuyun could speak again, Shen Muyun interrupted him. “Exactly. Huainan is right. Since it is settled, let us leave it at that. Brother, you need to have a little confidence in me. Besides, there is a stake involved. If I lose, it is a big deal. The contract…”
“You, you are just too pampered. I knew this horse racing thing was not simple. Did you promise Zhou Shiqing that if you lost, the contract would be signed?”
Shen Muyun scratched his head, nervously tugging at his riding gear. He did not dare to look up, replying in a muffled voice, “Yes.”
“It does not matter. It is just a contract. No matter what happens, Brother is by your side. How about that?”
Shen Liuyun reached out and affectionately tousled Shen Muyun’s hair, his eyes filled with warmth as he watched his brother, who was so handsome and cute, moping while tugging at his clothes.
“Liuyun, I saw the way he chose the horse earlier; he was quite confident. You should stop worrying so much. Brother Yun, good luck! We will be watching from the sidelines.”
Shen Muyun nodded. What is this Lu Huainan up to? According to the System, Lu Huainan was gentle, kind, and empathetic. He did seem gentle now, and was even very good at motivating others. A strange sense of affinity washed over him, as if it were fated.
“Well, of course, no problem. It is just daily entertainment; as long as it is fun.”
“Muyun, Huainan and I are heading to the conference room. The cooperation agreement for the racecourse next year needs to be signed. Do you want to come and see?”
Shen Muyun had no interest in business matters and shook his head. “Brother, I do not understand those things. I would rather prepare for the race later.”
Shen Liuyun nodded, patted Lu Huainan on the shoulder, and the two walked away.
Seeing them leave, Shen Muyun stroked his chest and let out a long sigh. It seemed they had not seen him gesturing to thin air. He would have to be more careful in the future.
“System, come out! I have not finished asking yet!”
“I am here!” The System yawned, flapping its small wings.
“The Space-Time Administration is essentially the manager of this book. It did not exist before, at least not in my memory. The previous 1,313 chosen ones did not encounter this; they only had the option of world collapse. Now, there is the Space-Time Administration. If you perform well, you might even get a chance to be directly transported there.”
The System’s explanation was vague. It seemed as if the Space-Time Administration had popped into existence out of thin air, but completing the mission was what mattered most.
“System, can you calculate the winning probability?”
“Of course! Dear Host, the chip I am equipped with is the Super Galaxy System, the most advanced processor currently available. This amount of calculation is nothing for me. Naturally, nothing is too difficult for me.”
The System’s screen flashed with blue light. Shen Muyun looked around; there was indeed no one else. But did that not mean others could not see the System? He was probably just worrying unnecessarily again.
“System analysis complete. Data generating. Data generation finished. Please receive, Host.”
Shen Muyun looked at the screen. One glance was enough to make his heart sink. What was this? A winning probability of 0.1%? How on earth did it calculate that?
“System, explain this to me. What does this mean? In my original world, I learned equestrianism since I was a child. Did you calculate this wrong? And here you are talking about a Super Galaxy System; is this all just a trick?”
The System was silent for a moment. “The System does not make mistakes. This is your current winning probability. Host, your chances are indeed very low. But you should be happy; this is just a minor twist. It will not affect the world’s values, nor will it impact your main storyline. There might be some volatility, but you must believe that everything here is currently under control.”
Shen Muyun let out a long sigh. “Do not worry, I will definitely win.”
Meanwhile, on the other side, Zhou Shiqing’s heart began to thump. This Shen Muyun knew he was the national youth champion, yet he had no reaction at all. This was not normal; there must be something going on, and he had to do something about it.
He had just seen Shen Liuyun’s group talking at the main entrance of the racecourse. He did not know if their conversation had ended, so he found a different exit. Looking at the device in his hand, he muttered, “Shen Muyun, you have to lose this race.”
