The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 8
A single tear slipped, and the sadness from moments ago vanished.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry! This photo doesn’t seem suitable for people who are too sensitive, my captain—no, my friend also mentioned it.”
Xingkong moved her hand away, and only then did Yao Yuan see the person constantly apologizing in front of her.
She looked very young, with golden hair only reaching her shoulders. Her features were somewhat masculine, and her body was robust, the type that some people on the internet might acidly call “unmarriageable.”
Not to mention the stud in her left ear, and the tattoo on the hand holding the photo. However, her sleeve covered most of it, making it impossible to see the specific design.
“Please don’t continue to bother my girlfriend.” Xingkong shielded Yao Yuan, gesturing coldly for the woman to leave.
“I’m sorry!” The blonde woman left in embarrassment and began asking other passersby.
Yao Yuan tiptoed and quietly asked, “Do you know her?”
“I know her colleagues, some very troublesome people.”
“Eh, are they like devils?”
“Come, let’s go in and choose your favorite.” Xingkong immediately changed the subject, leading her into the sales office.
The moment the door opened, Yao Yuan felt a slight bloating in her stomach.
An illusion? Something supernatural? No, no, this was clearly the feeling of having to walk into a high-end mall to use the restroom when you don’t have a penny to your name!
Thankfully, she wasn’t wearing high heels today; her legs were already starting to feel weak.
Right, there’s nothing embarrassing about looking at houses when you can’t afford them; perhaps most people are quite nonchalant, but she was just so embarrassed…
Due to nerves, she clung tightly to Xingkong with half her body, appearing timid.
A saleswoman in a proper suit approached, with an appropriately enthusiastic expression and demeanor: “Please have a seat first. Would you like black tea or green tea?” She seemed less like she was selling houses and more like she was offering service.
She could tell at a glance who had the ability to pay, and while also accommodating the suddenly socially anxious Yao Yuan, her gaze only met Xingkong’s. However, her toes were pointed towards Yao Yuan, indicating she was ready to listen at any time.
Yao Yuan stiffly sat down in a booth with Xingkong. The sales office had a large, well-lit platform, and each seating area was far from the others, with potted greenery placed in between for slight obstruction.
Two cups of black tea were placed on the glass table, and the saleswoman naturally set down a folder.
What was inside the folder? Design plans for various houses?
Yao Yuan still couldn’t relax, holding Xingkong’s hand nervously. She glanced at the sign in the sales office, trying to recall information about this company.
Jin Yang Metropolis… Although she didn’t know much, she vaguely remembered they mainly focused on detached villas and townhouses—high-end properties, in short.
It was impossible to expect a devil to consider value for money. Did Xingkong just select “View Nearby” in her head and then “Price Descending” with one click?!
“May I ask what kind of requirements you two have for a house?” The saleswoman surprisingly brought up a disadvantage first: “If you’re considering a school district house, the advantage here is not very strong. From kindergarten to elementary school, the schools are not considered good school districts yet.”
But immediately after, she quickly offered an advantage: “However, whether considering transportation or house layout, our properties here are excellent. Hospitals and shopping malls are very close.”
The saleswoman paused for a few seconds, and seeing that Xingkong didn’t interrupt, she continued: “I don’t know if the two of you believe in Feng Shui, but this plot of land has historically been favored, and great attention was paid to it during the construction process and design.”
Feng Shui? Why would she bring up such a high-risk topic?
Yao Yuan’s gaze fell on the crossbody bag beside her: a purple crystal pendant with a mystical style, and a small decoration with special patterns.
“Xiao Yuan.” Xingkong gently squeezed the hand she was holding.
“Huh? You decide for yourself, what does it have to do with me…” She was startled, shook off the hand, and nervously shrunk back.
“But I want to buy the one Xiao Yuan likes the most,” the devil suddenly lowered her voice, a sweet tone seeping in. The hand that was shaken off moved from her arm to her shoulder.
Swoosh, Yao Yuan, having reached her limit of tolerance, pushed the devil away and stood up trembling.
“I said I won’t choose!”
The slightly sharp sound was very jarring. Her face was flushed red. Standing felt wrong, but sitting down was also impossible.
The saleswoman’s lips parted slightly, one hand suspended in the air. Yao Yuan knew that this behavior was rude, and she should sit down and communicate properly using adult rules.
But she couldn’t stand this awkward interaction anymore—being forcibly taken out of her comfort zone and trapped in the devil’s rhythm.
“Sorry, I’m leaving first…” She looked at Xingkong with a complicated expression, grabbed her bag, and hurried out.
“Heh…” However, there was no sign of frustration in the devil’s eyes, but rather a faint sparkle: “My lover is very shy, and I need you to do one thing now.”
“What would you like me to do?” The saleswoman quickly avoided those soul-capturing eyes, a purely subconscious action. Experience led her to the best judgment: [Respectful Obedience]
“Work with your colleagues to select the four best houses and give me copies of the introductions.”
“Understood.”
Yao Yuan walked quickly on the street, then turned into a pedestrian street. Since there were no cars here, she could relax and stroll.
Under the sunlight, without the devil by her side, she could finally slowly catch her breath.
Being with Xingkong certainly brought a sense of security and confidence, but this security was entirely built on unease. The devil would deliberately guide her into [unease], insecurity, and restlessness. Then, she would bestow security and calmness, allowing dependence to take root in her heart.
Yes, it must be like that, how terrifying. Resisting a [lover] who holds the advantage in a completely unfavorable situation is indeed difficult.
Therefore, delaying the contract’s progression, avoiding the devil’s traps, and becoming stronger herself is very important. Cheer up, don’t be bought by favors!
She slapped herself on the arm, like swatting a mosquito.
Once a person relaxes, they quickly feel hungry, and Yao Yuan was a foodie who liked to indulge in milk tea and ice cream even when not hungry.
Her footsteps froze at the dessert stand.
Snow-white scoops of ice cream covered the cone, available with chocolate chips, matcha powder, and various different flavors.
She couldn’t afford a house, but she could buy an ice cream.
She opened her phone and slid to the dessert stand coupons, her eyes lighting up: There was a coupon for a designated ice cream for an extra 1 yuan with any purchase! That meant she only needed to buy the cheapest cone to get the most expensive one!
Xingkong would surely catch up soon; she could give the plain cone to her.
“Hello, I’d like one cone and a 20 yuan ice cream~” Yao Yuan held up the phone screen, waving it.
The young man scooping the ice cream leaned out: “Ma’am, please look closely at the coupon. It says the designated ice cream refers to a designated purchase, and the one being given away is only the one pictured.”
“Ah… So I have to buy a 20 yuan ice cream to get a designated cone?”
“You could also choose another drink.”
Calculating it in her head, it wasn’t worth it at all; she might as well buy a cheaper ice cream next door.
Yao Yuan turned around and suddenly walked into Xingkong’s embrace.
The devil hugged her back, then smoothly took her phone and held it up: “One 20 yuan ice cream, and one designated cone.”
