The Devil's Contract Lover - Chapter 39
The weekend arrived, and Yao Yuan slept until she naturally awoke.
Waking up, Yao Yuan waved her two hands inside the quilt. When she touched Xing Kong’s arm, she felt relieved—it must still be early.
She snuggled back into the quilt for a while but suddenly felt something was wrong. She grabbed her phone and her heart skipped a beat: 11 o’clock sharp.
“Xing Kong, why didn’t you wake me up? Didn’t we say we were going on a date today?” She bounded off the bed, fussing.
“Yes, and the date starts with you cooking me breakfast,” the devil leaned against the pillow, a large expanse of her beauty unconcealed. Their pajamas were similar in style, but the effect was vastly different. The nightdress, which covered Yao Yuan’s knees, couldn’t cover Xing Kong’s exceptionally long, proportionate legs.
“Alright, the loving breakfast has turned into a loving lunch,” Yao Yuan rubbed her uncontrollable eyes and ran out of the room for a look: “Where are Da Ju and Xiao Yu?”
“I told them to come back tomorrow. Today is our precious date day,” Xing Kong still hadn’t gotten out of bed, seemingly prepared to completely relax.
‘Come back tomorrow?’ She must have used her “money power” to send them out to play. Yao Yuan didn’t press further and stepped directly into the kitchen, tying on an apron.
When she picked up the spatula, she couldn’t help but recall Xing Kong holding her waist. Xing Kong at that moment was focused and gentle; even her cold embrace was warm.
Yao Yuan quickly shook her head, looking for ingredients and tools: I cannot sink into the devil’s charm.
She opened the refrigerator and was dazzled by the array of ingredients inside. It was probably better not to dwell on how the devil managed to cram every conceivable ingredient into a normal-sized double-door fridge—it was likely the same scaling process as fitting an elephant into a refrigerator.
She took out a mold from the cupboard, and a heart-shaped egg quickly filled the silver heart. Ham sausage was cut into octopus leg shapes and blanched. What to make next?
Since it was lunch, maybe some spaghetti.
Yao Yuan skillfully scored a cross on the surface of a tomato and blanched it in hot water, then mixed the noodles with the meat sauce. The simple, loving brunch was complete.
“Hark, come and eat!” She playfully handed the plate to the devil on the bed.
Xing Kong accepted it without minding, twirling the spaghetti with a fork and bringing it to her mouth. Her movements were graceful, but she didn’t offer any praise about the taste.
“How does it taste?” Yao Yuan untied her apron, eager to know.
Xing Kong casually twirled a second portion and fed it to her. Yao Yuan chewed it, wrinkling her brow: “Too bland, not enough meat sauce, the tomato isn’t flavorful enough. Maybe adding some ketchup would help.”
“You’re absolutely right.”
“Then why can’t you just compliment me!” Yao Yuan pounced on Xing Kong, and they tussled playfully. She finally remembered the most important thing today: “Xing Kong, is this considered a date too?”
“Yes, we have been dating since now.” Xing Kong put her hand on her forehead: “Our previous way of getting along was indeed abnormal, no wonder your resistance was so severe.”
This arrogant devil actually learned to reflect!
Yao Yuan was very touched: “Yes, exactly! You were acting like a legendary ‘lapdog’ before, it scared me to death.”
“…Where do you want to go today?” Xing Kong’s response was delayed by one second.
“Can we just stay home and lie down?” She didn’t catch the change in the devil’s voice. It was a hard-won day off, and she didn’t want to run around outside.
“Of course we can.” Xing Kong’s voice deepened: “There are many things suitable for two people to do in a private room.”
Just as Yao Yuan was about to protest, she suddenly thought of something: “Xing Kong, what kind of relationship do you think we have now?”
“Naturally, the relationship between lovers.”
“Yes, we’ve always been pretending to be lovers,” she looked up at the devil: “Now, shouldn’t we start being real lovers?”
“Pretending? You think everything we did before was just pretending?” The devil’s voice was impossible to discern. Her figure could easily engulf the small human.
Yao Yuan’s heart began to pound: [If Xing Kong wasn’t pretending before, she would definitely be very angry.]
However, when she gazed into the devil’s eyes, she found not a trace of anger in the cold pupils. Her heart sank. It was the same as on the Ferris wheel; even the seemingly genuine [anger] was acting.
Sure enough, after a few seconds of silence, Xing Kong cupped her face: “That’s right, you are very clever.”
Her tone was like a master praising a beloved puppy for learning a new trick, carrying a condescending praise for the will and cleverness of a lower life form.
She should have felt relieved for passing the test, but for some reason, her heart was filled with bitterness.
The cruel truth was laid bare: the devil had not given love, yet she herself had begun to care about the devil. Perhaps she would rather anger the devil and be punished than guess the truth and be praised.
[I want her heart.]
A kind of arrogant ambition was born in the human soul. She began to crave a devil’s love. This thought was extremely dangerous; the moment it was born, it was equivalent to sentencing herself to death.
Even without a contract, demanding a devil’s love was destined for ruin.
[Even so, I still want her heart.]
This obsession flared up like wildfire, spreading endlessly, making her limbs and bones ache. This contract of love cannot have only me facing the risk.
Yao Yuan forcibly stopped her wild thoughts and stared into the deep eyes: “Look, since we were both being insincere before, let’s get serious now, shall we? Come on, let’s start from the very beginning of a relationship~” Xing Kong naturally wrapped her arms around Yao Yuan’s waist, but as she leaned in, her lips were strongly blocked. The person in her arms tightly covered her mouth with both hands, rejecting the kiss.
“You’re moving too fast, Xing Kong.” Her eyes were calmer than the devil’s: “We just became lovers, you know. We have to start with holding hands.” She gently held the devil’s two fingers with one hand, bringing with it the warmth unique to humans.
Yao Yuan was no longer as cold as she was before holding hands; a blush stained her cheeks: “I agreed to be your girlfriend because you saved me under the car.”
Xing Kong opened her palm, and her fingers slipped through Yao Yuan’s, until their fingers were tightly interlocked: “Pleased to meet you for the first time. My name is Xing Kong.”
She stared blankly at the devil for a moment, her vision gradually blurring in the smile: “Okay, I remember. Please call me… Xiao Yuan from now on.”
The two wandered aimlessly on the street for a long time. They didn’t go into clothing stores or gift shops because they had just finished lunch, and restaurants were not ideal to enter.
Even so, they didn’t complain. They finally stopped when they passed a park and sat down on a bench, one on the left, one on the right.
Strangely enough, Yao Yuan felt that this experience was very appropriate. If she didn’t know Xing Kong was a devil, she felt she would easily fall for her pursuit.
She turned her head to look at Xing Kong’s perfect profile. The only regret was probably that she couldn’t ask for a kiss anymore, as they were only in the very early stages of being lovers.
If she longed for a kiss again, the speed of the contract’s completion would certainly accelerate. Now, the ownership of her soul or her desire to survive was slowly being replaced by another kind of craving.
She desperately wanted to get Xing Kong’s true love before the contract was completed. Even if the difficulty was far greater than tearing up the contract, she would never give up.
“Xiao Yuan, do you want to watch a movie?”
“Yes,” she answered. Actually, she didn’t want to watch a movie at all, but she had to admit that watching a movie was a suitable activity for people just developing their feelings.
“Don’t lie.” Xing Kong was cold for only a moment, then immediately softened: “Don’t be afraid. I just want you to completely relax and not do anything you don’t want to do.”
As expected of a devil, she truly understands the art of speaking. Even though she was extremely annoyed internally, she remained polite.
Yao Yuan suddenly wanted to check out a bar. She had never been to one, and with the devil accompanying her, she wouldn’t have to fear danger.
“I want to go to a bar…”
Ring-a-ling~ Her phone rang at a timely moment.
She made a gesture and answered: “Hello, Master.”
[Moonstone, there’s something you need to handle.]
“Tell me,” her tone instantly became serious.
[It’s related to the plan. You need to go to a place to provide assistance.]
Yao Yuan was about to agree but looked at Xing Kong with a difficult expression: she had promised Xing Kong the date first, and the devil had been persistently fulfilling the contract from yesterday until today.
To her surprise, Xing Kong nodded this time: “I’ll go with you.”
“Master, I’ll go. Could you send me the address?”
After a few sentences, the call ended. She stared at Xing Kong, speechless, a little surprised.
“What’s wrong?” The devil gently touched her chin: “I told you, I want you to do what you truly want to do.”
Yao Yuan stammered and stood on her toes, bringing their eyes closer: “But, weren’t you… very annoyed when I didn’t fulfill the contract?”
“What contract?” Xing Kong chuckled and hugged her: “I’m your lover, aren’t I?”
Danger, I almost succumbed! Yao Yuan patted her little heart and headed toward the location specified by the Tarot Master: it looked like a warehouse.
Hmm… warehouses left a bad impression on her. Fortunately, this warehouse was located near the port, so it definitely wasn’t the one in the mountains before.
Xing Kong’s arm reached out, and she held onto it tightly as they stepped into the wide-open warehouse door together.
The imagined scene full of occult props did not appear. Instead, there were several large boxes inside. The boxes weren’t fully sealed, and she could see that the insides were filled with boxes of… toys?
“What is this?” She took out one box and held it in her hand. It looked like it was full of long, shattered stone fragments. Was her Master planning to open an online store and needed her to help classify the merchandise?
“A laughably inferior, solid substance resembling a magic crystal.” The devil tore open the packaging and displayed the crystal in her palm: “The magical elements inside are virtually non-existent.”
“Then what are we here for?”
Yao Yuan opened her phone, and a message had just arrived.
[You’re there, right? Help select the crystals that still have trace magical residue. Others are checking other locations.] Was this a request for quality inspection? That was too strange!
A transfer notification popped up: 1000 yuan received.
“Xing Kong, Master gave me a job. I’m starting,” she put away her phone, her gaze determined.
This job was surprisingly easy. She just needed to tear open the packaging, check the internal crystals, and put those with a magic reaction into the empty box on the table.
With Xing Kong’s help, they finished checking all the crystals in less than three hours. Most of the time was wasted on tearing open the packaging. It was the most comfortably earned 1000 yuan in Yao Yuan’s life.
After eating wontons at a restaurant and comfortably taking a shower back home, Yao Yuan lay down in the quilt and closed her eyes.
Her forehead was suddenly poked. She opened her eyes, and Xing Kong’s face was extremely close.
“Stop messing around, I want to sleep~”
“Xiao Yuan, do you want to learn magic?”
“Of course, I do!” she quickly agreed: “But didn’t you say it wasn’t suitable for me!”
“It is indeed unsuitable. The circuits in your body are closed,” the devil said very professionally: “In some worlds, spellcasters have magical circuits that can be connected, but people like that are almost non-existent in your world. The system of magic is different.”
“Ah… I don’t want to consume your power.” Yao Yuan lay back down.
[Why go to this extent, consuming magical power just to please me? Is this the devil’s obsession with the contract?]
“Magical power sharing is indeed a very comfortable solution, but there are other ways for you to genuinely possess two sets of casting abilities.” The devil suddenly flipped over, her knee pressing against Yao Yuan’s side, and her two hands restraining Yao Yuan’s hands: “It will just hurt a bit. Bear with it—my lover.”
