The Deposed Crown Prince had Three Lifelong Regrets - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“I love you! It’s true, it was love at first sight, but..but..but you have to believe me, this is absolutely not infatuation based on looks. These words come from the bottom of my heart, as clear as the bright sun and moon.”
“I super like you, you know!~”
A single stone stirred up a thousand waves. Lu Fengmian’s heart surged. Amidst these absurd words, an inexplicably strange, ridiculous, and slightly bitter feeling arose.
“Why don’t you just say I’m your dream lover?” Lu Fengmian didn’t take any of her words seriously.
Fortunately, after saying “I love you,” Li Qinghuai immediately stopped being serious herself, saving her the potential heartache of hearing a perfunctory reply.
As various faces flashed past, a ripple of clear water flowed through Lu Fengmian’s pupils. When her gaze swept over a scholarly-looking face with a pointed chin and thin jaw, she instinctively raised her hand to cover Li Qinghuai’s sight.
Li Qinghuai’s long eyelashes fluttered repeatedly. Finally, through her completely blurred vision, she groped for and grasped Lu Fengmian’s wrist.
Then, she mumbled a long string of words that others couldn’t understand, all the while strongly pulling Lu Fengmian’s arm down with her knuckles.
When Li Qinghuai’s vision cleared, the thing that required covering her eyes and was not meant to be seen had already gone, she knew not where.
The corpse bobbing up and down closest to her was a man with a upturned nose and an upper lip that curled up to reveal seven or eight scattered yellow teeth, looking like the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy reincarnated.
“Hiss.” Li Qinghuai gasped and quickly leaned back.
She retreated a little too fast. Her legs moved quickly, and her fuzzy mind couldn’t process things fast enough. After moving back two steps, her knee joints suddenly went weak, and her whole body tipped backward, about to fall to the ground.
But for some unknown reason, she was still holding onto Lu Fengmian’s wrist, refusing to let go, even halfway through her fall. Yet, the expected did not happen. Just as she was about to see the face of the corpse that had previously walked past, a well-proportioned, strong arm wrapped around her waist.
Li Qinghuai quickly blinked a few times, but continued to strain her head backward, her hair suddenly falling loose.
This series of actions infuriated Lu Fengmian. She immediately exerted force on her hand, pulling her up. As the person stood steady but still swayed, Lu Fengmian pressed down on her shoulders, preventing her from falling over.
“Ooh, then I’ll thank Master Lu first.” Li Qinghuai stood firm, not discouraged that she hadn’t achieved her goal, and smiled mischievously.
In an instant, Lu Fengmian’s fingertips recoiled as if shocked by electricity.
There really was no other way.
This was the first time she had encountered such a shameless person. If she were a man, it would be fine, but she was, irritatingly, a woman.
It made it hard to understand what to do. Being too aloof would seem prudish.
Li Qinghuai looked left and right, then leaned close to her again, whispering, “What is it? What is it? What is it? Was there something I wasn’t allowed to see?”
Lu Fengmian paused in thought, choosing not to answer, and stopped looking at the hopping corpses.
“If you don’t want to answer, should I take another look?”
Seeing her being so cold, Li Qinghuai was truly dissatisfied. She pondered which deity had passed by earlier that was worthy of the other person condescending to cover her eyes.
She figured her emotions had been too transparent from start to finish—frowning with resentment when unhappy, and rolling her eyes when plotting schemes—making it obvious what kind of person she was. This was probably why the other person didn’t even bother to extend the most basic courtesy of polite human interaction.
Li Qinghuai lightly blinked her bright eyes. Just as she turned her body, her palm was pressed hard by a heavy squeeze. The force was clearly unrestrained, as if fearing she wouldn’t react in time.
“This… this is…”
Before the two could exchange more than a few words, a trembling voice came from behind them. Under Li Qinghuai’s fiery gaze, Lu Fengmian didn’t hesitate for a moment, resolutely turning around and walking towards the back.
Tree shadows flickered, and silver light filtered through the sparse gaps, dappling Lu Fengmian’s clothes and hair.
This scene inexplicably carried a sense of solemn holiness, like marching bravely to death, yet she was merely trying to calm the bodyguards’ nerves.
She was somewhat annoyed. Upon seeing a face identical to Fox Immortal’s, her first reaction was to cover the eyes of the person who least needed attention, neglecting the consequences of letting others see that face.
As Lu Fengmian rushed backward in anxiety, out of sight, Li Qinghuai’s face gradually darkened. Her gloomy expression made her look increasingly like a King of Hell crawling out of the underworld.
Amidst the frantic sounds of footsteps rustling through the grass, Li Qinghuai’s own footsteps were remarkably steady, giving the impression of a leisurely stroll.
The thick fog briefly parted as they entered, only to close again moments later. The two passed through one after the other, both swallowed by the mist.
The hazy, slightly gritty smoke drifted past countless fearful faces, momentarily obscuring their eyebrows and eyes, then their mouths and noses, adding to the eerie atmosphere.
Jagged rocks and skeletal, menacing dead trees could be enough to frighten these uneasy bodyguards out of their wits. Lu Fengmian was deeply aware that she bore most of the blame. She swallowed hard and forced a kind smile.
“What’s wrong? Your expressions are very strange.”
Her tone was very soft, like soothing a misbehaving child, with a hint of spoiled affection.
Li Qinghuai clicked her tongue in wonder, unable to discern how much sincerity was in the pout on her face, squinting to see more clearly through the fog. She had clearly decided to remain an observer—neither causing trouble nor helping—just watching how the other person would resolve the crisis.
